I've seen this file across various phones. Have not figured out what it does tho. Is this throttling data, or device actions? If anyone knows, please share. Also, if this dies throttle data, will removing it negatively affect mobile data...

Well throttling due to reaching a certain data extreme is not handled on the device side. It is handled on the back side of the network. So if your thinking of that kind of throttling then no. That is not what that is.

Well, not so much as being throttled for exceeding a limit, I was just wondering if this is like a rev limiter on a car, where data speeds are limited to a certain amount. I know Sprint says they don't, but I've been doing speed tests for the last two years and they've been getting slower and slower. LTE was fast for me while they where testing, now, it's about as slow as everyone else's 3g. Probably due to their overloaded, antiquated subsystems. I'm just wanting to know what it is that these here files do if anything.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium

I dont think so as these files have been found across several devices and carrier's. You can always just rename them by adding .bak to end of the file and see if it makes a difference.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app

Where those files are located they would throttle something in the cpu/gpu or ram if it was hardware. More likely it's throttling something on the software side. may be there to prevent max clock speed spikes on the limited cpu/gpu or throttle software accelerated functions like ui rendering, fps caps etc. There's little to no chance they would have any effect on data speeds other than the scan intervals.

Linpack update. Good or bad?

The latest update for Linpack takes longer to register results and I can't break mid 30s. I've used it with DC 3.5 and Fresh 3.1.0.1 with netarchy's latest. Is the app actually more accurate now or is this some sort of bug?

Its more accurate now.

Good from an accuracy standpoint, bad from a numbers standpoint
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G
I would rather see higher numbers since realistically its just for bragging rights. Oh well, thanks for the input guys.

Haha I have to admit I feel the same. Breaking the 40 mark is awesome

I just think they should reset the top devices list since they changed how its done how is it doing it now I think it runs it like 5 times then shows an average

Are my smartbench scores unusually low?

My scores are around half of what the program says is average of the epic on 2.2. I'm running epic experience 2.0.07. Is it normal for me to have such low scores?

This is my quadrant score with one small app in the background

Damn that is low. Did you try killing all processes before you ran the test?

it does seem low, but i havent checked out EE to see what kind of tweaks he's made. pretty sure he converted to the Nexus S too so i'm not sure how much devving on the epic he's kept up with.
try a different ROM like quantum or bonsai, those perform really well. but i feel like i always notice that i get MUCH better scores on a clean install than when i restore all my apps and data, being that most apps run background processes and will eat up RAM. might even compare on a clean install on EE see how that affects your scores.
Yeah they are low.man I would try flashing another rom. I'm oblong bonsai now v. 2 and its really fast.

Yeah they're low. Compare your smartbench scores to some others here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907111
Amosher i took your advise and went to bonsai it works great.

3g speed?

I just did two speediest in different areas. First one isn't in the woods or anything but probably a bad spot. Second is right in town about a mile down the road.
1st spot - 390kbps
2nd spot - 1580kbps
Is 1500 about right?

They are both actually pretty typical of what you'd expect to see on CDMA EV-DO rev. A. Data can drop of sharply based on signal strength.

Yeah that sounds right, to translate the rates into something more practical they come out as:
1st spot - 48.75 KB/s
2nd spot - 197.5 KB/s
here's one I got a few days ago:

or translated into kbps
2188 kbps
Your rates will depend on the quality of tower, weather conditions and how many users are connected to it. Also your PRL version (make sure it's up to date with *228) and your radio are the other things that affect it per phone.

Are my pings on my speedtests normal?

Lately I have been trouble with my data connection. While I'm browsing the web the connection will time out or I will loose my signal. This just started this week and the time of day seems to have no effect.
I am getting a mix of really high ping rates (600+Ms), some good pings and sometimes it fails to complete the test. All of these tests where done pretty much right after each other.
A lot of times when I go to access a page the upload arrow will light up and stay lit and the page never loads.
Is this normal or could I have a defective Gs2?

I had called T-Mobile about the problem and they said they would reset my connection. I thought that had helped at first but I guess it hasn't. I have also tried doing a factory reset. But nothing makes a difference.

honestly does it make a difference when you surf around or download anything?

Yes. A lot of times it will not connect at all. Or it will load half the page and then loose its connection.

does this happen to your past phone? might be where your at. i have crazy ping times too but i stream music, surf and nnothing really affect it. try changing modem.

Modems and what's the difference

I'm trying to find a list to each modem and what's the best for me.Is there a list of what each contains some where? Thanks for any help.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 4
this is so good
The difference is in the code... There is no change log that I have seen so the only way to find out is to try (every area seems to be different so looking at the code wouldn't really provide you with any answers anyways). JB modems generally offer the best data speed but they can only be used on TouchWiz Jelly Bean (4.1.2)

Another question could modems effect battery as in each one would search for data signal differently?

Not really anything that would be noticeable
Poor signal = poor battery life.
If the phone is constantly searching for signal, it will affect battery life. This is why I leave wifi always on and connected if possible wherever I am. This only affects data polling of course but it still helps.
There aren't really many choices for Jellybean modems but if you are running a rom that lets you use ICS or GB modems, there are a ton of choices and it is trial and error what will work best for you in your area.
I'm using EG31 I thought about experimenting with others.

for me el29 is the best

GB27 has always been way better than anything else for me, that's why I stay on TouchWiz
