[Q] is it possible to flash Sprint custom rom on a I9305? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi everyone,
I have an I9305 S3 and I see that the Sprint S3 community is a lot more "alive" than the i9305's.
Will it be harmful for my I9305 to flash one of the Sprint's custom roms?
Thanks ahead.

If you want a paperweight sure.
But in all seriousness, no do not only flash roms for your phone/carrier.

That really has nothing to do with it, thats only a hardware difference and wouldnt lead to a brick

The reason is that the misc partition of the international version is in the same location as the boot partition of the Sprint version....so when you flash an international rom on a Sprint phone then you you're deleting the bootloader and its game over
As for the other way around, theres another partition that lines up with a different one between the two (cant remember which it is right now) but most of the partitions are essential for just having your phone boot, so when you override it with info that should NOT be in that partition (because it should be in another) you get a brick

No actually he is right different things will flash in different partitions making it completely useless. The kernel in the wrong area, the bootloader in another. The device will be unable to locate the appropriate programming to do anything. Thus a paperweight.

But your response was incorrect with the question. Quad core and dual core have nothing to do with the reason why you can't flash international roms and vis versa.
If the partition's were the same then it wouldn't matter.

modem cfg file in JMK rom

There is file named nvm_SP6160_MODEM_V09.23.03_0f104f9d.cfg in the new firmware, I have never seen something like this before.
how do we flash this?

Why flash if you don't know what it does? JMK works fine without it anyway

Seems like it tells the tab the location of various modem related configs. It might help us with enabling the voice on tmobile USA tab.
Samsung has never given us anything like this before. Now tab is almost at the end of it's life cycle because tab 2 will be coming out soon. May be samsung gave the opensource community what they were holding back.
I don't think it tells the tab anything, but it does provide an interesting "read" (more of a pick through)
The brief Google searches I was able to conduct tell me little about what it all means, but if someone could enlighten me on how to dump memory addresses from the Tab I'll do more research

Is it at the end of it's lifecycle? They are still to release the wifi only model.
There is no "Tab 2" - there's the 7", 8.9" and 10.1".

From what I have read lifecycle of singlecore processor smartphone devices is over, next version will have dual core.

The HTC Flyer will have a single core processor and it isn't even out yet!
Dual core isn't a panacea - there will still be a market for single core devices for a while.

Dual core processors for PC's have been around for years and you still get PC's with single core processors
can any one tell me who to flash the nvm_SP6160_MODEM_V09.23.03_0f104f9d.cfg in the JMK rom?
I tried to flash the JMK rom with Odin. But the update failed by transfering the modem.bin file to the SGT. I hope that has something to do with the nvm_SP6160_MODEM_V09.23.03_0f104f9d.cfg and some one can help me
I want to know more about this cfg file too.

[Q] premium suite

is there any one who ever tried to install i9300's premium suite into his att/sprint/us cellular/tmobile version of samsung galaxy s3?
Ive tried it by changing built.prop parameters and stuff. It seems pretty working , I have pretty multiwindow stuff
questioon is why no one ever tries it , i know everyone says that their phone gonna turn to a brick, yes its more likely to happen
but why its so? dont say every model has its own firmware, gimme a better explanation please.? if its gonna be harmful for my phone im gonna turn it back .
The main reason it is not a good idea to ever attempt to flash an international version of this phone to a US version is because the international version is a quad core exynos processor, no LTE and 1gb RAM and the US version has a dual core snapdragon with LTE and 2gb RAM.
They have completely different hardware setups, therefore are completely different devices.

[Q] Downside to 4G LTE?

Noob here who has decided on Samsung note 10.1 for my first tablet ... but which one? Looking for fastest performance and longevity. Does the added mobility of 4G degrade performance during WiFi operation? ... are there disadvantages other than related costs?
tx in advance!
I will advice the 4G version because it have the Snap800 like processor and have the 4G that is better and faster like 3G.
Finally, the Snap800 will have more support from dev then the 3G with the Exynos by Sammy
The trade-off will be reduced battery life most likely if traveling in weak LTE areas.
I'm leaning towards SD800, especially after what I saw in the picture
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4
Thank you for your replies. Looks like only the 4G version has the faster SnapDragon800. Ok that's settled.
Between32 and64, will the 64 remain faster as the memory folk
fills up or is it all the same in respect to performance?
Tx for answering my dumb questions!

I wouldn't say that the sd is faster just yet, there are no real benchmarks out there just yet for the new octo core 5420, based on the few cryptic leaks they seem to think that the new octo might be a tiny bit faster. Im not going to jump to any conclusions just yet, I would preffer the sd800 on my device if only for the cyanogenmod support
Will you be able to use this device as a phone? As in does it have a dialer that you can use with a regular SIM like the old one?
I'm getting the one with the Snapdragon processor in it.
Sammy promised that they will include HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) in their 5xxx processors . Ie; they will make s4,note3 and note 10.1 to real octa core processors through a software upgrade (say kernel upgrade)...so guess , which will have higher performance , sd or exynos? ? ? ?
And also exynos version will have wolfson audio DAC in it , so exynos defeats sd in audio performance

I would welcome an LTE model on Verizon except it will be limited to 16GB of storage and I just won't accept that. You need 32GB or higher internal storage for apps not medial content that is what the microsd is for.

Whoa..that's completely unacceptable (I'm Verizon). Agree on 32 min. Where can I find spex on Verizon's version?
The spec sheet Mashari_F posted helps differentiate among variants but I'm still not clear.
I'll likely have to wait until later in Nov. for my own good ... see how users are feeling about SD VS. OCTA and see what Verizon puts out vs. Wifi.
Tx!
16GB should be fine, I have tons of apps and games installed on my 16GB old note 10
and still have 4-5GB left, if you are planning on installing huge games like nova 3 (I think it takes up 2.2GB) then you might want to consider the 32GB instead
if you root and have a nice size microsd handy, you really wont have to worry about it
So, if you want the best CPU, you have to buy the version with a cell radio in it? That's kinda dorky, since I can just tether to my phone. But I guess if I want the best CPU I gotta buy the 4G (that I won't use).

Yes, sure.
Because Snap800 support LTE.
And Snap800 version will be better then Exynos
See the S4, the S600 have more support that Exynos Octa...
We dont know which is more powerful yet, this is the new octa core, not the old one
Wait for benchmarks from the new one to see

lol, benchmarks...
I won't see bench, because they don't have a lot of sense.
Snap800 will be supportated because devs know the architecture and they always have the source code...
Isn't the same for the Exynos...
It's like S3 for the Cyano
So, ATM, Snap > Exynos

Samsung released the kernel source for the Exynos version a few days ago (sammobile.com/2013/09/20/samsung-releases-kernel-source-for-galaxy-note-10-1-2014-edition). I'm not very familiar with all the lingo, so please enlighten me: Is this not (all) the source code that devs need to do their thing?
Can someone explain why someone buys an expensive note 10.1 only to install cyanogenmod and lose all the exclusive features? (Spen, multiwindow, ir blaster, and some other things)
Just buy a nexus 10 or wait for the new one if you are going to do that

The big problem there isn't the source code, this was an older problem, but the structure of the partition and the core.
If a dev will build a kernel, the source are here.
But, trust me, snap have a source code more easy, it's quadcore, and we know all about this.

before buying this i was told by many people and it was written at many forums that only the flagships evices with snapdragon chipset are biggest recipient of all the development, and devs usually dont like compiliing roms on intel based cpu devices.hence zenfone 2 might never recience any cynogen or aosp based roms ..is it ture?...i rooted my previous xperia deivce and installed a couple of roms and kernels so i have a fair idea of how this all works but i m still kinda noob to all this...

Well there are 2 versions of 4gb version. 1,8Ghz and 2,3ghz cpu. I dont think there would be such a problem to do a bit of code to make it work on 2gb of ram.

As a 2gb ZE551ML owner, I can assure you that we don't have anything to worry about us being supported. Same for the ZE550ML and ZE500CL especially, it may seem all the focus is on the highest spec models but we're all Zenfone 2 owners in the end.
This is how all new non-nexus devices have to start out until we can reach that adequate balance between models. Remember the saying, "Be together, not the same."

The ZE551ML exists in 3 configuration ...
2gb/1.8GHz
4gb/1.8GHz (mine)
4gb/2.3GHz
which are basically all the same phone! Kernels, ROMS and recoveries run on all the same!
The ZE550ML has also an unlocked bootloader (don't know about 550CL ... why made asus so damn many versions?!? )
And even the 550ML/CL are nearly the same. So nobody has to worry about not getting anything. When the Kernels etc are stable enough, somebody will port them to the other devices.
The people porting CM12.1 to our device are working pretty hard as far as i can tell (multiple commits a day on github).
What i really want to say with this is ... give it some time. The phone is pretty new and we have devs that are working on it :good:

Differences between Snapdragon and Exynos Radios for USA - AT&T?

Hey all,
I have the option of buying the phone straight from AT&T or getting an international unlocked version. I know that the Exynos processor is better for performance for the most part, but how are the radio's/performance/battery life in comparison to the SD820? I live right by NYC so I have full LTE everywhere I go right now. I'm not worried about VoLTE if that's an issue, I very rarely use the phone to call.
Thanks guys!

If the Note 7 is like the GS7 Edge, then the Exynos version will have better battery life. Right now, no one really knows.
Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
One of the few reasons to go with a carrier phone is because they optimize the radios for their networks. S-820 devices use Qualcomm's X12 LTE modem which supports LTE-U. Exynos devices use Samsung Shannon 935 modem. Both support LTE category 11/12. They're the same modems used in the S7-series so look at their forums. Any happiness or unhappiness using either on AT&T would be the same for the Note7.
Im curious as well either getting the international version or Tmobiles version. I see the Note 5 international roms have alot more options and the processor is going to be better on the international variant.
