[Q] CM10.1 Stuck on loading animation - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

HALP, I haz a mystery (probably an easy one for you guys).
On a completely stock E4GT with the most recent Sprint ICS release (FL24), Wednesday I ended up using information from the following link: (groovypost.com/howto/epic-touch-install-cm-10-1) to root and install CM10.1 Wild For The Night 3-4-13 version. The file rooted and flashed the EL29 kernel and CWM 5.0.2.7. Everything came right up, and I started geeking out over how awesome the ROM was. Used it successfully through about mid-day today (Friday), and then encountered an issue...
The phone wasn't dialing out, so I restarted the phone, and it has been stuck at the CM10.1 loading screen animation ever since. Since then I have tried wipe/cache/dalvik/reflash, and even got home and installed todays new nightly build 03082013 to no avail. Can somebody please give me a hint here?
Thanks so much guys
Aside from attempting to go back all the way to stock, what else can I do to get the OS to fully boot up?
**I've now even flashed back to stock FL24 and then tried to re-do the process...same problem arose. Not really sure why it worked super well before, and now won't boot

Maybe it's a bad download

The flash went through without a problem so I doubt it was a bad download.
So the ROM flashed successfully and you were able to boot and test it out before you had trouble making calls and after a reboot you got a boot loop? What apps did you install? Did you play with any of the settings which could cause the issue?

Yep, flash was successful and I was using and loving the new ROM for two days, then upon restart it just got stuck on the CM10 loading animation :-/
I installed Goo Manager and Rom Manager, which I'm learning was a mistake. But since then, I've reflashed back to stock FI27 (which worked but had a lot of force close issues..) and then re-did the process to flash CM10.1 on, with the same end result of stuck @ loading animation. I really need to have use of my phone back, any ideas?
Thanks!

Rom and goo manager don't support this phone...did you do a full restore back to FI27 and telling by what you typed it seems you flashed the EL29 Directboot kernel correct?

Yeah :-/ thats what I ended up figuring out, will not touch them next time around.
Yes, did full restore to stock ROM and stock recovery using a one click FI27. And yes, I had used the EL29Directboot before installing CM10.1. I think I did most things right, its still just not playing nicely :-/

Actually. Goo isn't the issue with support. The ROM must support Goo.

Did you wipe the system in the safe recovery?

Yep, did a clean wipe on the CWM 5.0.2.7 recovery, which is supposed to be a safe recovery as far as I know

OK Rogue is a derivative of Clockwork and with that said before you rooted you should of done some more research. What you should do is look for calkulins format all zip and flash it then flash the rom again. Also download another version of the rom just incase you have a corrupted zip.
Lastly try not to do anything else until you do some more research.... Quite a few stickys that can help you....

Flashing CM9 freezes mid install

So I have been trying to flash CM9 for the past couple of days, at first it worked just fine but I forgot google apps, so I went back to recovery and flashed gapps. After that it wouldn't leave the boot screen. I used odin to put a stock ICS rom on, then flashed clockwork and now every time I try to install cm9 It just stops on "installing." Did I miss something very simple and obvious or what?
How long are you letting it sit on "install"?
I've tried several time's usually only a few minutes, but at one point I left to the store and came back like an hour later and it was still on installing. Had to pull the battery every time, then I have to use odin because I can't get into recovery.

You need to follow the instructions to the letter .... and when you get it flashed if it don't boot go back into stock recovery and wipe data and it should boot

OK, I'm going through it again, but I did forget to mention one thing that might be important. After I odin CWM, my current rom does not boot though I can boot to cwm. Is that expected?

Currently my phone is without a ROM. Please help!

I tried following some videos by QBKing77 and some other advice I found on threads here but am stuck and don't want to go any further in case I mess something up.
So far I have flashed back to a rooted EL26, installed CWM5.0.2.7, wiped everything, and tried installing the latest stable CM9 ROM.
When I go to flash the CM9 ROM, here's what I get:
assert failed: getprop....Installation aborted.
I have attached a screenshot. Please help! Naked without a phone!

idk too much about this but i think you have the wrong rom downloaded. It LOOKS like youdownloaded the GT-I9000T version which is not the rom for our phone model. you probably want TeamEpics:CM9.1 Beta.

That looks like the Rouge recovery. I'd stop using that to flash immediately.
If I were you, and provided that you can get to Odin mode on your phone, use a one click restore and then do some more research.

Flash calkulins rom. Really any gingerbread rom. Then try it again. I have had that happen to me before too. I fixed it by flashing the rom from el26 kernel. I did not wipe anything before hand. After cm9 flashed while still in the el26 kernel I factory reset the device. Worked fine.

That makes sense because I went directly to the CM website and downloaded for the Samsung Galaxy S 2 because I could not find a link for Epic 4G Touch. I guess I don't know too much about this but I was hoping for something that was a final release and not a beta or alpha. Is that team epic beta my only option?
Btw for being a beta its damn near perfect. I am ru ning a nightly after the beta however. But I remember having no problems with it. Try it you won't be disappointed

No CWM on EL29 + EL26 Recoverys

I am having issues booting into CWM EL26 + EL29 Recoveries.
I am able to odin the kernal but it just sticks on the Samsung logo if I try to access CWM.
It used to reboot and either go right into CWM or I would do Volume Up and Power to access.
I am currently on Paradox Rom GB27. I am trying to flash a ROM that needs EL26 or EL29 but cant access.
Any idea why I cannot access?
Also, if I have the charger plugged in (usb to comp), the screen gets stuck on a battery icon like its charging but doesnt move.
(think thats just because the charger is plugged in) BUT it seems that whatever this kernal is doing it the phone it is Freezing it at that first boot point.
I reflashed GB27 so im fine for now but just want to solve this mystery.
Any help appreciated! thanks!!

I can try mobile odin. I have the full version. I will give it a shot. The thing is
I had those kernals for over a year, always used them, worked fine.
Now all of a sudden they dont. I tried downloading agai , checked md5, everything appears correct.
I will post back the results.

No luck with mobile odin. Same thing. Stuck at the White Samsung Logo.
I am out of options. Unless there is another kernel I can try that is similar to el26 + el29.
Its weird how gb27 works fine... I just dont understand that. Could something be broke or misconfigured on my phone to not allow
installing el26 + el29?

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I will stick with Paradox for now.
I wanted to try multi window rom but flashing on gb27 gives force closes and constant reboots.
Is it possible that once im on gb27, I cant go back and flash a gb rom? Ive done it
Before so thats why im stumped. Its like my phone doesnt support it.
I went on rwilco and downloaded multiple files and made sure they were with cwm.
They all do the same thing. Heres one for you... would water damage cause those kernels not to work?
Phones fine besides the kernel issue.
Also is it possible when doing cleanup on my phone and deleting
Old backups cause an issue? I thought to myself... wait I can restore an old rom with
El29! Lol no where to be found, already got rid of them.

I've flashed many ROMs..from GB to JB and back the other way..lol. Never had that problem..you could try to go into recovery and flash the format all x 2.. Then flash the el26 kernel zip..reboot recovery.. I don't know...might work..The format all x 2 will get ya ready for flashing GB/ICS so it might help..once on el26 you can use jb format all x 2 to get ready for the new jb ROM flash.. Try doing an Odin stock rooted Rom flash on ICS and then working from there using mobile Odin. Sometimes I can't do the pc Odin for those kernels so I use mobile Odin and it works perfect.
If you're trying to flash the new SHOShock Rom by TD then I'm having issues with that too. My phone gets stuck on a boot cycle and if I try to flash a nandroid back up then it gets stuck on the Samsung screen. Only way out of it was flashing a GB27 rooted stock Rom in pc Odin.

First, download the el29 recovery kernel zip located in the rwilco repository.
Next either flash, or already be on the gb27 agat recovery kernel (also can be found in repository).
While in agat recovery, navigate to "mounts and storage"
Select "format /preload" (and whatever else you want to wipe out)
Back out, then "install zip from SD card"
Flash the el29 zip and you should be good to go.

[Q] Problem Installing TWRP and Rom on Epic 4G

I seriously can not figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm going to be giving away my Epic since my friend broke his phone and I have the S4. However before that I want to install TWRP and the latest KK rom but everytime I do I brick the phone and have to restore it back to EL30 or FC09 and start over. I done this 4 times and I still can't get it to work properly. It roots fine but when I try to install a later rom or TWRP it doesn't work. Can someone help me out?
BUMP
Is there no one that can help me with this problem? I really want to get this cellphone working so I can give it off to my friend.
wich rom and wich twrp?
The epic 4g custom roms all have a recovery that goes along with the rom. The blu kuban rom has always been stable for me and if I recall correctly it has twrp along with it instead of cwm.
On second thought, are you talking about the sprint s2 non slider or the slider one?

It's the Sprint Epic 4G with the slide in keyboard. SPH-D700 if I recall.

Ahhhhh, I don't know anything about the slider one. I only have the non slider one. Sorry

This is the guide I followed to root. (As well as qbking77 guide) I tried both MTD and BML once I failed and it's the same problem. Once I flash your deodexed rom it works but if I try to flash a different rom it doesn't work or at least one of the latest rom. I know in Schism rom it said to update to the latest TWRP or CWM but when I try with CWM it doesn't work and if I try to install TWRP I end up bricking the phone which I have to restore again.
Alright I followed everything on the thread and used MTD again. I checked and I'm fully rooted. Now I'm gonna try to flash the rom I'm trying to flash. I'm assuming I should Wipe before installing the rom right? Since the stock and custom build are different.

It failed again. I did not wipe and for some reason it still does not work. Once I install the Rom from zip it says Checking State of BML/MTD and it reboots once it reboots it just stays on the Samsung Cyanogenmod screen. I waited for five minutes and nothing happens. Also sometimes when I do try it just stays in a black screen with the buttons at the bottom glowing.
