Currently my phone is without a ROM. Please help! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I tried following some videos by QBKing77 and some other advice I found on threads here but am stuck and don't want to go any further in case I mess something up.
So far I have flashed back to a rooted EL26, installed CWM5.0.2.7, wiped everything, and tried installing the latest stable CM9 ROM.
When I go to flash the CM9 ROM, here's what I get:
assert failed: getprop....Installation aborted.
I have attached a screenshot. Please help! Naked without a phone!

idk too much about this but i think you have the wrong rom downloaded. It LOOKS like youdownloaded the GT-I9000T version which is not the rom for our phone model. you probably want TeamEpics:CM9.1 Beta.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874374

DO NOT flash any ROM unless it says epic 4g touch you willbrick your phone if you try and flash a ROM for any other galaxy s II

That looks like the Rouge recovery. I'd stop using that to flash immediately.
If I were you, and provided that you can get to Odin mode on your phone, use a one click restore and then do some more research.

Flash calkulins rom. Really any gingerbread rom. Then try it again. I have had that happen to me before too. I fixed it by flashing the rom from el26 kernel. I did not wipe anything before hand. After cm9 flashed while still in the el26 kernel I factory reset the device. Worked fine.

That makes sense because I went directly to the CM website and downloaded for the Samsung Galaxy S 2 because I could not find a link for Epic 4G Touch. I guess I don't know too much about this but I was hoping for something that was a final release and not a beta or alpha. Is that team epic beta my only option?

Btw for being a beta its damn near perfect. I am ru ning a nightly after the beta however. But I remember having no problems with it. Try it you won't be disappointed

This is the recovery that was posted with QBKing77's video. Also, I didn't see any GI Joe type artwork in the recovery.

Odin Stock ICS ROM,for Epic 4G Touch: 4.0.3 or later... Without TW

Can someone please link to, or post a Odin one click version of the Stock 4.0.3 ICS or later Rom for the Epic 4G Touch, I don't like TW (Touchwiz) and would really like some Vanilla Android in my life. Big thankx in advance...
There isn't one, and probably won't be one. A non-TW rom through odin might be risky. Your best bet is to just visit the CM9 or AOKP thread in the development section and follow their instructions.

I have only seen one cm9 that was able to install with Odin and that was for galaxy s2 international....not good for this phone

I'm confused. If all you want is no Touchwiz you can freeze the launcher with Titanium, the ICS launcher is built into all releases. I personally use Nova launcher because, I'm sick of TW and it has a bit more functionality than vanilla.
Just go to applications/TWLauncher and clear defaults. It'll let you choose the stock ICS launcher next time you press Home.

It's not just that.. I want the Stock Dialer,Messaging App and Contact's App, I'm currently using FD16 SPH-D710.FD16_CL405716 ROOTED one-click version from [Odin] I'm not very good trying to install AOKP versions. I tried earlier today, and got a Killed over Android Man, though he looked a little funny laying on his back, with his chest plate open... I'm sure it wouldn't have been funny had I bricked my phone. The instructions are all over the place... and I need help trying none Odin versions. :-(

It's really not that hard man. In regards to CM9 specifically:
Before anything, put the CM9 .zip and the latest gapps.zip on your external SD card.
Go to the CM9 installation page on their blog, and find the link and download CWM5 (it's towards the top of the instructions)
Put your phone in download mode, then fire up Odin, and put the CWM5 you just downloaded in the PDA slot. Make sure only "auto reboot" is checked.
Plug your phone in, once it's recognized hit start.
The flash will be really quick, as soon as your phone reboots, grab it and hold power+volume up until you're in recovery. This way, you prevent your phone from booting up normally and instead it will just boot into recovery.
Once in recovery, wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache. Do not wipe system. Then, install the CM9 zip from your SD card, and when that's finished, install the gapps zip.
Reboot.
If after this it's not working, then you probably just have a bad download. Redownload all files. And make sure to use the CWM5 specifically linked on the CM9 page.

It doesn't fix everything but if you dont want to go CM9/AOKP right now this is alright - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553591
Replaces or themes anything and everything they could to turn it from touchwiz'd to AOSP. But you would probably be almost as well off on an AOSP rom unless the video camera is uber important.
Otherwise your out of luck. We don't have 4.0.3 source for this phone yet.
I'm using tjohnsonjr's AOSP like rom and it works fine. Great battery like as well.
Thank you all so much, I followed your instructions... With some video help from QBking77 as well, and the AOKP 4.0.4 build 32 install went well. You all are the best.

Just got my ota ics update, now what?

Im just running stock rooted tw. I just got the ics update pushed to my phone and I want to update. I know it won't fly because of cwm recovery. What's the best way to upgrade to ics from here?
I one of these days when ive got time I will be loading a custom rom. I dabbled with cm9 a bit, but what I need is a stable rom that has a good strong radio and GPS. So that's why I'm hanging with stock for now.

Why not just use SFHubs FF18 One Click, no data then run this to disable the OTA msg if you continue to get that?
To get your CWM Recovery back, just use the Autoroot to install CWM for FF18..

Why would you be in the wrong section?
And according to sfhub, and others, having root alone should not prevent the update. Though some have said it's failed.
The latest OTA is said to fix swype, and that's it.. But that's just a matter of clearing swype cache.
Why not try the update? Everyone is having their own experiences, bad / good battery life, phantom reboots, lockups, great reception.. etc..
Why not try it out? You can always change it..

I ultimately tried it, but I'm screwed. I edited my Droidsansfallback.ttf to get soft emojis for my phone. During the update it stopped and said something about the file. I think it meant it was unverified. It also had a string of letters and numbers after it (DroidSansFallback.ttf, be7fksdsk1333, 340dj3045, etc). I'm re-downloading the stock rom in hopes that it will fix everything, but I chose no data wipe so I don't know.

Give an update after if you don't mind.
Are you going back stock el29 for the OTA or just using the ff18?
Did you make a backup of droidsansfallback prior to editing?
:edit: I'm wondering if you had the update still in cache and went with a stock ttf and tried replying the update. I don't know if a fail clears it out of cache though..

It's going to take an extremely long time [or a place with better reception] to download this. If someone could just send me the ttf it would be awesome.
I'm going back to stock rooted EL29. If I get another issue, I'll enable temp root. I did not make a backup of DSFB, unfortunately.

Personally? I would root and use a custom recovery to flash a nicely built rom. But that's what I would do.
I can either get you the update zip, and some links are still active to the latest OTA, or you can go custom.

There are plenty of custom ics roms in the Dev section. And el29 is 2.3.6 btw depends on what you want, aosp(cm9, aokp) or tw(blu kuban, goodness, venum ice, etc) lots of choices, I personally only use aosp roms and exclusively aokp out of the choices. I'm not a fan of tw the UI looks like something my 5yo made with his crayons

Crawrj still has his link active. Very recent update and you can use the stock recovery to use as the update. Just say the word of you don't know how to boot into recovery and apply. No need to rename but you can of you like, just name it update.zip and place into your sdcard.

I have been on ICS since the update and although i like the interface i have been having nothing but problems. i ended up backing up with titanium and doing a reset of the phone, still having issues although not as much with the wifi.
phone freezes at time, wifi needs to be refreshed at times, phone runs slow and somewhat choppy (removed live wallpaper to help relieve.), when i click on apps there is like a fading delay transition into the app. Oh and battery will not last more thank 5 and a half hours... and that is with light to no use.
I am no thinking of going with a custom rom ( i am rooted with oden). what rom should i go with that will give a similair look to ics but without all the problems.
thanks

Is that 5 1/2 hours on screen time or total battery life?
And there are several Stock "look and feels" in the Dev section. As with any Rom, YMMV. It's just a matter of taste and all anyone can really suggest is reading through the threads and seeing what appeals to you. Read through in it's entirety to get known issues, compliments, fixes, adjustments, etc..

[Q] Cannot flash rom!! Installation Aborted, help!

Just got my gs3 today and decided to root using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682

Looking on the forums someone posted a link to download an updated 6.0.1.4 so I tried that since 6.0.1.2 wasnt working. There's gotta be something simple to fix that I dont know about, ive flashed and rooted my htc sensation and mytouch4g easy and never had installation failure when flashing. Can someone walk me through what exactly I need to be fully rooted and flash a rom!?
How could cwm not be working if its updated to latest version? I dont think im downloading the wrong rom and its not a bad link. Even tried dragging it onto my internal sd wirh debugging off. Btw I have the 32 gb s3 with does not have an external sd.
The way I fix that was I rerootes my phone into latest clockwork recovery. I didn't remove the root I just rerootee it. Look for cwr 6 I think.

From watching the video given for the toolkit, when in odin and have to open up pda then go to the toolkit files and then root all my files are in winRAR type and his are in tar archive type. Does that matter at all? And also when clicking on the pda then root you chose the file /boot-insecure-tmo-t99uvalem-cwm but when in odin and clicking this file on the little winrar icon to the left of the file name its the only one with a little like key lock, doesnt know if thats an issue or anything just something i noticed because when accessing the toolkit files on my c drive and going to the root folder, the key icon is no longer there.. Any ideas??
Reading about people flashing a kernal in recovery then flashing the rom and working but when you flash a rom isnt it flashing the kernal it comes with also? Or is this the problem
Well, I re ran the toolkit, re did the root and odin process same as i did the first time, downloaded rom straight from my phone flashed again still getting status 7 error/ installation aborted -______- ugh...

Look at my signature for the proper CWM. I don't know where you saw 6.0.1.4 for our device, but the main thread and the developers website show no sign of it. And download CM10 from get.cm, d2tmo. If you that doesn't work, you don't have a SGH-T999.
I can't believe I didn't see this before....what is the exact file name of the rom you are flashing?
I looked and did not see our phone listed in the op. Looks like the international one is there (codename m0?). But no d2tmo, d2att, etc.
Unless I just missed it there, you do not want to even try flashing that anymore! If I'm right you just got very lucky dude!

Glad you got it sorted out.
Just for the future though, never flash anything not built for the TMobile SGH-T999 (codename d2tmo). If you do flash an international GS3 rom it will brick your device. I think this woulda happened had the miui rom from the link in op actually flashed.

A custom ROM if not on fl24 would still prompt. Go to the stickied thread in q&a forums and in post 3 it is explained how to stop ota update. The link to the thread is in my SIG too.

Thanks I will give it a try. Perhaps the apk I was using was outdated.

When I flashed a Rom it didn't tell me about the update. I guess it depends on what type or kind of Rom you flash

Hmm maybe I should just get a custom ROM. It's still happening with FOTAKill :\. Which ROM do you have? Any issues with it? Also is there still that problem where if you wipe your data your phone will brick.

There are answers to the question you're asking. They've been asked plenty of times before.
If you grab a one-click full wipe/restore 'leak', say GB08 you will NOT be prompted.
PLEASE take some time to read, search and then read some more. Or, yes, you will brick your phone.

So just to be absolutely sure if I flash this: http://rwilco12.com/downloads.php?d...-D710)/Stock ROMs/JB/GB08/Full Restore/Rooted
On AGAT v0.2.2 recovery FI27 it should be okay right? And I just go into download mode and click start. Sorry I do look at the threads but I get confused at times and am kind of paranoid since bricking my last phone.

When you are flashing a full rom, it doesn't matter what recovery you are on. You flash a .tar.md5 using odin/mobile odin.

[Q] CM10.1 Stuck on loading animation

HALP, I haz a mystery (probably an easy one for you guys).
On a completely stock E4GT with the most recent Sprint ICS release (FL24), Wednesday I ended up using information from the following link: (groovypost.com/howto/epic-touch-install-cm-10-1) to root and install CM10.1 Wild For The Night 3-4-13 version. The file rooted and flashed the EL29 kernel and CWM 5.0.2.7. Everything came right up, and I started geeking out over how awesome the ROM was. Used it successfully through about mid-day today (Friday), and then encountered an issue...
The phone wasn't dialing out, so I restarted the phone, and it has been stuck at the CM10.1 loading screen animation ever since. Since then I have tried wipe/cache/dalvik/reflash, and even got home and installed todays new nightly build 03082013 to no avail. Can somebody please give me a hint here?
Thanks so much guys
Aside from attempting to go back all the way to stock, what else can I do to get the OS to fully boot up?
**I've now even flashed back to stock FL24 and then tried to re-do the process...same problem arose. Not really sure why it worked super well before, and now won't boot
Maybe it's a bad download

The flash went through without a problem so I doubt it was a bad download.
So the ROM flashed successfully and you were able to boot and test it out before you had trouble making calls and after a reboot you got a boot loop? What apps did you install? Did you play with any of the settings which could cause the issue?

Yep, flash was successful and I was using and loving the new ROM for two days, then upon restart it just got stuck on the CM10 loading animation :-/
I installed Goo Manager and Rom Manager, which I'm learning was a mistake. But since then, I've reflashed back to stock FI27 (which worked but had a lot of force close issues..) and then re-did the process to flash CM10.1 on, with the same end result of stuck @ loading animation. I really need to have use of my phone back, any ideas?
Thanks!

Rom and goo manager don't support this phone...did you do a full restore back to FI27 and telling by what you typed it seems you flashed the EL29 Directboot kernel correct?

Yeah :-/ thats what I ended up figuring out, will not touch them next time around.
Yes, did full restore to stock ROM and stock recovery using a one click FI27. And yes, I had used the EL29Directboot before installing CM10.1. I think I did most things right, its still just not playing nicely :-/

Actually. Goo isn't the issue with support. The ROM must support Goo.

Any suggestions on a step I'm missing or haven't thought of?

Did you wipe the system in the safe recovery?
Sent from my Jelly Flavored Epic Touch
Yep, did a clean wipe on the CWM 5.0.2.7 recovery, which is supposed to be a safe recovery as far as I know
