Hi I have a rooted Epic 4G Touch and running on the stock ROM. Ever couple of minutes I keep getting a message to update to FL24. I tried using Titanium Backup Pro to freeze System Update but it still occurs. I even tried backing it up and just uninstalling it completely and it still pops up with message. Any solution to this? I've tried fotakill too. Would installing a custom ROM remedy this issue?
yes a custom ROM with custom recovery would elimate this

A custom ROM if not on fl24 would still prompt. Go to the stickied thread in q&a forums and in post 3 it is explained how to stop ota update. The link to the thread is in my SIG too.

Hmm maybe I should just get a custom ROM. It's still happening with FOTAKill :\. Which ROM do you have? Any issues with it? Also is there still that problem where if you wipe your data your phone will brick.

There are answers to the question you're asking. They've been asked plenty of times before.
If you grab a one-click full wipe/restore 'leak', say GB08 you will NOT be prompted.
PLEASE take some time to read, search and then read some more. Or, yes, you will brick your phone.

So just to be absolutely sure if I flash this: http://rwilco12.com/downloads.php?d...-D710)/Stock ROMs/JB/GB08/Full Restore/Rooted
On AGAT v0.2.2 recovery FI27 it should be okay right? And I just go into download mode and click start. Sorry I do look at the threads but I get confused at times and am kind of paranoid since bricking my last phone.

When you are flashing a full rom, it doesn't matter what recovery you are on. You flash a .tar.md5 using odin/mobile odin.

Ok, So i've successfully rooted my epic 4g touch and I successfully installed the rogue CWM found on this forum. Now whenever I try to flash the CM7 zip (trying to get AOKP), it will only boot into CWM and the phone won't boot. I've tried re-rooting, wiping dalvik (gives me volume patch error), and wiping cache, etc.
Any help?
No need to boot flash aokp in the recovery and on pretty sure aokp will boot

Flash it twice. This is a common occurrence
And by that I mean flash it twice successively, one after the other. Should fix you up. Let us know if that doesn't work.

I've done that. It didn't work.
You don't need to install CM7 to install AOKP.
Try this: ODIN to stock EL29, use one click root (choose option C, then I (this'll root your device and give stock CWM recovery)).
Then boot into recovery, flash AOKP, gapps and FD02 modem if you'd like.

Really? Interesting. Ok well most people are actually flashing AOKP and Codename from the EL26 CWM that is linked in the OP of those threads. That is actually how I have flashed over 15 times with different builds. So if you can Odin EL26 with clockwork mod you should be able to flash AOKP after you flash a calkulin format all to wipe all relevant partitions and don't forget to install Google apps.

Yes, root works a bit different on this phone. Pretty much every single rom available will provide with root and superuser when it is installed via some sort of custom recovery or Odin. Odin is actually a very safe and convenient method of flashing.

Hmm that's strange. A lot of people definitely have the fast zip installing issue but when they flash it for the second time without ever rebooting recovery or the phone it takes a good 15+ seconds to flash and it successfully writes to your phone and boots up. Going back to stock certainly can't hurt. Perhaps start from there.

Reboots usually about 10+ times a day. During calls etc. Any way to remedy this?
Note: it doesn't restart from the very beginning it freezes, goes black then boots up the lock screen all media connects are restarted etc.
From the limited amount of research I've done the zedomax method for rooted is no longer used? (Currently I get the yellow exclamation point at reboot).
What do I need to do (in lame mans terms) to get my phone back to normal?
TIA!
Easiest way is to one click Odin. I'm not sure which your on. I'm assuming GB. So you can one click Odin to stock el29+ root. Or if you want one click Odin to FF18 or FH13 to upgrade to ICS. And if your on ICS you can use triangle away to get rid of yellow triangle on the splash screen.

Using ZedoMax kernel is your problem from the get go. Even Zedomax would have a good laugh at that. Its an OLD OLD kernel.
EG30 and EK02 can be rooted via usb with the zerg exploit and sfhubs auto root made that easy. Easiest way with EL29 or the newer ICS firmwares as well is just to flash a prerooted one click. But you can always odin a kernel with custom recovery and flash super user.

You have CWM recovery right?
If so copy Calks rom onto your phone, if you don't still have it there.
Download the EL29 zip file to your phone from http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com...y Kernels/GB/Rogue Recovery/Stock Repacks/ZIP.
Instll that zip from recovery and reboot back into recovery.
Install Calks Rom again.
You should be fixed now.

Different issue:
1. I keep getting a FI27 Software Update reminder. I am able to clear it out of my notifications but 5-10 mins it's back again. It will interrupt whatever it is I am doing at the moment.
2. Is there a separate current radio I can download? My gps can never find my current location, rendering the turn by turn feature useless since I can't use it.
Any thoughts?
TIA

The last 5 pages or so of my stock restore and rooted odin tar thread mentions them but this isn't really an heavily discussed issue . Granted Google couldve told u that in less time than it took me to write this.

When it is rooted even if you try to use the OTA update it won't let you, while rooted, you could alternatively flash the update via ODIN w/ root support. Or try some of the sweet ROMs available , the reason I switched to a custom ROM because I was going to have to erase my phone anyway if I wanted to update, so I thought why not just try a custom ROM?
I use LiquidSmoothRC7, but if you want a more stock feel with touchwiz you can try Wicked, Wicked stays true to the "official stock ROMs" and just adds roots and tweaks the ROM to make it as stable as possible
If you are rooted, with a custom recovery, there is absolutely no reason for you to be playing around with Odin or OTAs... your updates are available in the development section

Some of those 10 partitions that are getting rewritten are... for one, your recovery... so that makes 9 actually...
My point is, and I'm not trying to be argumentative in any way, merely objective, is that unless it is reformatting the ext4 partition to new file structure (for example) there should be no need to do this. I suppose I would ask somebody to define in depth "rewritten" and how exactly this is being done and why. Every single update we have had since the release of this device I have not once updated my own device with odin merely to put it back to stock. And I have run into zero issues. Seems like a waste of time to me unless there is something highly critical being restructured entirely. In the end, its all the same disk, and disk size for any given partition.

If you are on LH2, with that same baseband, I would go ahead and update your baseband via docs packaged update in his thread, and just reboot, then move on to the jelly bean updates. Do a factory reset through recovery before you flash the JB ROM tho since you are coming from a completely different version of android.

If you want to avoid all the weird miscellaneous problems listed in the Q&A forum, update using Odin and the rooted rom in Docs' thread. If you choose not to use Odin do not be surprised if odd things happen.
Just stating my experience, I was rooted stock ics and ran the ota update. I was able to update, keep root and ran stock jelly bean without any problems at all.

Again looking for some technical clarity here. Haven't had a single issue myself. With anything. And I have not factory odined my device once since I got it. It is not critical to do this, otherwise I would be suffering from "weird miscellaneous problems"
Hopin doc can jump in here and set me straight if I am wrong, but it seems to me you will be fine just updating your radios and then moving to the latest build (4.1.1) as long as you clear data before flashing your ROM of choice

If I understand the process correctly
ODIN flashes the entire phone OS like the kernel, Rom, baseband, etc
Using recovery to flash only updates the Rom,recovery, boot, kernel

Sorry, I will clarify, I am curious to know why Odin is such a critical issue. I know how it works as far as it being a flashing tool
I am not sure maybe it's just preference and how much you want to use your computer and what how much you want to download etc

The file used to flash with Odin is much larger because it is a complete rom. The OTA is a patch that attempts to patch and modify existing files.
I basically said that on the last post not the one you quoted

Everything good?
anyone else having this prob. sometimes i will use a app and the screen will go black and unresponsive i can still turn the screen on and off wit the power button but it eventually restarts however it does the startup animations but does not make the sounds. any fix?
some history:
tooks some time but decided to root, once rooted the factory os would not boot. so i did the restore to factory flash with counter reset uploaded by a fellow member of xda and then did the flash to root.
now i have this prob.
What Rom did you flash to? Stock or something else? Also, Root method? Odin CVM, Flash root zip? just trying to see if there's anything that sounds odd or off other then the issue you described. I rooted with CVM Flash (odin) and zip root method.. Flashed The People's rom, No resets here.

Link me the rom please.
I have seen this a few times recently. I did not have that happen when I read on ICS. It only happened after I updated to lj7.
It is interesting to note that the phone appears to restart and recover but when I look at the uptime for android I see that it was not a full reboot.

Best thing to do.. Find a 100% stock Rom.. ODIn.. then reroot with CVM method (JB rom)
I just got my Gs3 Monday and was having this issue alot stock unrooted. Since rooting haven't seen it for 4 days on freegs3 2.0.

Try flashing a different rom since you should have Recovery. See if it persist. Should be ok. My phone was stock for about 20 min lol.. So i couldn't tell you how stock runs or if it had any issues lol

See my latest post. I ran this on my OG Epic.. running it now. LOVE IT.
I've been encountering this lately also. I thought maybe it was just my phone. My back button becomes unresponsive sometimes as well. Maybe I'll do a full wipe and reflash a rom.
maybe sumthin up with super user? i noticed that when i open up flip board it says shell granted super user a **** load of times and wont let me do anything in flipboard.
