Need Media from phone I can no longer interact with. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Good afternoon folks. Got'a bit of a problem and thought if anyone could help', it'd be the XDA gang.
So a lady friend of mine has an HTC Inspire 4g 4'04'... and the other day she got it in her head that she'd like to see it fly! Long story short, it did. So now I can see the screen, but cannot interact with it... Have already tried 2 front assembly replacements,..... nothing.... This really wouldn't be that big of a deal except that her grandmother passed recently & there are some pics on the phone she'd like to recover.
The phone is not rooted, no custom recovery, don't even think debugging is turned on.. The most I can get to happen is a "removable drive that mounts when I hook it up to xp... and when I click that, it asks me to insert a disk.... The correct HTC drivers are installed.
Anyone have any ideas..... apart from the 1000 ways she could have backed it up before it'd death! It's almost like she tried not to. '''''' Any help would really mean alot.... Thanks in advance guys.

mic, what is the model number of the device? There are 3 for the Incredible, the ADR6300, 6300VW2 and VW3. Also, how early (after the phone hit the market) is the phone?
I couldn't tell you exactly. He bought like the first one, the one that came with the OLED screen.

I see. I had one of the original ones as well, and began to have an issue similar to this. What happened was some of early models had defective hardware radio chips. To find out if this is the issue with your friend's phone, have the phone deactivated from service, and then shut off the phone for 20 minutes. If you turn it back on and it powers on with no problems, you may have a device that needs replacement. If so, at least it will make you able to unroot and flash back to stock so you can get replaced with verizon/htc.
If this doesn't change anything, let us know, we'll get to the bottom of this.
well i tried calling him and i got his google voice thing when he didnt answer. idk if that means hes back on the Dinc or not. he had to go back to the enV 3 for a working phone lol. the only problem is that if he asked Verizon for a replacement but he bought it contractless on ebay...
They'd probably just tell him no.

Might be able to make a claim with HTC, but the warranty claims are made through a third party. I had some luck with calling HTC, getting them to say that they'll do something about it, and when the third party tried to charge me money, I just flipped **** and gave them the loyal customer speech. Worth a shot. If you can't get it for free, ***** and see if that helps
haha okay ill let him know to look into that. also ill ask him about the whole 20 minutes thing. thanks a lot for the help
Wonky SD Card?
CM 'interactively' uses elements of the SD card, I believe.
That said, have you tried a different SD card?
Meaning, d/l another ROM onto the 'other' SD card, put it in the device w/ power off (after unmounting SD, powering down, and removing 'first' SD card)
Load/flash new ROM from recovery off of 'other' SD after wiping everything, and see if it boots.

[q] what can i do?

Ok I have a STOCK HTC EVO 4G that has never been rooted or anything. For some reason it WON'T mount as disk drive but will charge and everything else normally! I'm on the LATEST sprint OTA too. Can anyone offer any advice or help. I have also tried HARD RESET, FACTORY RESET, & BATTERY PULL. There is also no port damage, I have never dropped phone in water or anything else either. People please help, I also have insurance with sprint

Try a different cord and make sure u have the drivers for you're computers os

Have you tried turning usb debugging on?
Edit: While I was in line at Sprint to get a replacement, I saw a guy that took his in for the same problem. They couldn't figure it out so they ordered a replacement. If you can't get anything to work then you can try taking it in.
Also install HTC Sync if you haven't already, and if you aren't using the stock cable try a different one. USB cords longer than a certain length (2 feet maybe) will only charge your device.
If you haven't tried a different port, try that as well.

This guys funny lol dude you still didn't figure this out you created a new thread to ask the same question instead of bumping your old thread
The cord I'm using once used to make it read in the ps3. All of a sudden it just stopped disk driving and yes I tried with debugging on! Idk if the new Sprint update did it but by the time I got around to trying to root it I had these issues

You keep the phone in charge only to root, so you can still root it.
Since it isn't rooted and you won't have to bother with unrooting, why not take it to Sprint and have them look at it? They can either tell you what is wrong and fix it or give you a replacement.

HTC One Reset itself and is now stuck on Verizon splash screen

I have had my HTC One for 25 days now. I am not rooted and completely stock.. I was listening to Pandora at work with phone plugged into my work laptop. My phone reset itself and wouldn't go past the Verizon splash screen. Not wanting to lose my photos of my kids, I took the phone to a Verizon store and had them check it out.. they attempted a fast boot and asking them phones recovery which led to being stuck at the Verizon splash screen. Finally the tech factory reset my phone losing all of my photos and the phone made it to the lock screen only to reset when unlocking the lock screen and then freezing again at the Verizon logo on the splash screen. My phone also won't power off. It has been stuck on on the splash screen the past 5 hours. Verizon said there was nothing they could do in store.. anyone have any ideas on getting the pone back to normal? I've had zero problems prior to this and loved my phone thanks

They really sent you out of the store with a non-functioning phone? What the hell are you supposed to do? Call HTC?
Not that it helps you now, but create a Dropbox account or allow the auto-upload to Google. I don't want to risk being in a similar situation so I have my photos auto-upload when I'm on Wi-Fi to minimize the chance of something like that happening. Sorry man. I wish I had something to offer that might help.

Normally I have dropbox setup to auto save my photos, but I hadn't set it up on my HTC yet. The guys at Verizon kept trying to reset the phone, and finally, they were ready to have a phone sent to me tomorrow, but yeah I'm without a phone until tomorrow afternoon.. They said that the store doesn't handle replacement devices, and that a replacement has to be ordered. I decided to wait and go home and use my wife's S4 to call Verizon and HTC and see if there was any other way to get the photos off the phone, but unfortunately, no one at either tech support could figure out the issue with my phone and the Verizon rep at tech support says that since these phones are mass produced, sometimes things like this happen. I guess the point of my thread was to alert people of the importance of backing up your photos with this phone, and any other information of importance. Also, I'm excited to get my HTC one back tomorrow, the Verizon rep on the phone was also very nice and tried to request a brand new phone instead of a refurbished unit, but was unable to do so. He said that likely, due to the newness of the phone, that the phone may be brand new anyway. I guess I will find out after work tomorrow. Hopefully I get a nice new One tomorrow, and the first thing I will be doing is turning on the auto-upload feature and the Dropbox sync.
That stinks, sorry to hear that happened. Let us know how it turns out, and whether you got a refurb or not.
That's definitely a con to this phone. In some situations, a battery pull can relieve problems sometimes.
Got a refurbished HTC one from Verizon disappointed its not new. Slight gap near the power button but nothing too bad seems to be working great so far.

damn I was hoping we'd get refurb phones from HTC, I don't think I want Verizon taking apart this phone personally.
Idk as long as it's put back as well as the first, no complaints here.
I'd jsut send it back until one came that is perfect.
I've sent back I think it was 4-5 htc rezounds refubs before I got a good one.
damn, refurbs already? That didn't take long.

just hold power for ten seconds.. or power and volume down.
easier than a battery pull, IMHO.
Just keep calm .
So i recently forced mu htc to get stuck at verizon with xposed module.
And got a working solution, as the phone gets stuck just run:
1. adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.DELETE -d package:com.package name
2. adb shell pm uninstall -k com.package name
witch the package would be the latest apk you have installed it, it will give you errors cant not find or access.
just let is go on and then it goes ON worked for me.
Hope it works fir the next guy with the same problem.
Xposed puts a flashable disabler zip on your sdcard (Exposed_Disabler_Recovery.zip). All you have to do is boot into recovery and flash it. That will dissable the exposed framework, and all related apps.

[Q] Recovering pics with dead screen

Hopefully this is the right place for posting this. Its for an S4 but an Android phone question in general. I think.
A friend of mine has an S4 with a dead screen. The phone still works though. It turns on and gets calls, etc. You just can see the screen. She wants to recover the pictures stored in the internal memory. Plugging the phone in only shows media mode and there is nothing there. The phone is not in USB debugging mode either.
Is there any "back door" way in so that I can copy off the pics and then wipe it? She going to get a new one with a warranty but they send her a whole new phone and she has to send hers back.
THANKS for ANY info at all.
So when you plug it in to your pc you get just one option?

Yes. Usually you would see the internal memory and the external SD if you have one. This only shows the phone as a media device and when you click on it there is nothing there.
Ok. Hmmmm....usually there are 2 modes, media and storage which you can choose IF the screen was on.
Is there any reaction when you touch the screen?

I dont think there is any response. It doesn't help that its locked too. I thought maybe there was some back door command line stuff I could do. I've Googled a little but cant really find an answer that works when your screen is dead. I don't have the phone in hand at the moment to try anything either unfortunately.
Well bro...I really don't know. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will chime in and help you.

Thanks! I did actually. I told her about Google and DropBox with their automated picture backups and also having the camera save to the SD card. I think she'll from this.
It looks like I may be able to use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to get in and push commands to the phone. Looks like I would be able to turn on USB debugging this way and/or pull off files. I have to read up more on it.
I've noticed that the sometimes my files will not show up when connected util I've unlocked the screen, then bam, the files appear. Could be a rom thing or a settings thing. If the phone still responds to touch, try to unlock it blindly.

PC won't recognize usb???

If anyone can remember I've had this issue not only once but twice, and now, this makes the third time.
Idk what's going on or why this would happen again. Maybe it's MHL, since I use it frequently, or a LG issue. Who knows Anyways I have insurance with sprint but I'm afraid they will make a big deal since I've already taken it back twice. Or should that even matter? I don't think it should but who knows.
Now my questions are, I have a stock backup but TWRP installed, will sprint notice it if i try to get them to fix it??? Is there a way to reset back to stock without a PC???
I'm very frustrated because this has happened too many times now and I don't think it's a software issue but a hardware issue, which makes me hesitant to get another LGOG. which sucks because I really enjoy this phone.
Anyways, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to all who have helped in the past. And this community here is awesome.
idk how i got here...
Mine will or won't recognize based on the cable I'm using at the time.

ok so i noticed MHL wouldnt work with my phone with certain roms, so i firgured it was a rom issue. But, there were roms that did work with MHL so it wasnt a big issue. Then i noticed the rom i was using stopped working with MHL, and at first I thought it was an xposed module that made it stop working, so i restored a stock backup, after removing the xposed modules and same thing happened. But this made me recall my first experience with MHL not working and my first reaction was to see if my pc recognized it, and unfortunately it didnt, so i already knew what happened. One of my usb pins broke...(thats what the tech said who fixed my phone) which by now isnt a big deal because its natural now, well to me it is. So i just assumed i would take advantage of it and try new roms, since alot of roms I've tried didnt work well with MHL so why not?!... Anyways, after trying new roms and flollowing the instructions to a tee, i flashed a new rom and rebooted to a black lit screen, which is what happened the first\second time this has happened to me. LG screen pops up but thats it, nothing else. Battery is charged cuz I've charged it before. Plug it in just in case and LG screen pops up and then the black lit screen. Holding power plus volume down does nothing nor does holding power plus volume up. And since computer cant recognize the phone, download mode does nothing. So, idk if this helps with development here but its happened too many times for me to where idk if i want another LGOG.
If anyone has any insight or a similar experience, PLEASE SHARE!!!
And again THANKS to everyone here.
I have the same issues as you for the most part. I get the black lit screen from time to time as well, but mine usually happens if i let the battery drain. It won't go into charging mode and will not boot. Just the LG, and then black screen. It usually takes two to five times trying to get into recovery mode before it boots

OK an update for people who would "like" to know
Well turns out my phone is not done for turns out the battery was dead. :banghead: anyways phone is good to go BUT my usb still doesn't connect so I guess that's the only downside. Which I honestly think mhl is to blame since I use it constantly.
Well this can be closed but thanks to everyone who was kind enough to help.
idk how I got here...
I'd say leave it open until we figure out the usb
