My Girlfriend has the HTC one X and lately when she uses it the phone will all of a sudden freeze... she waits until the phone is able to restart itself before using it again,
this mornin she woke up and found out that the phone had somehow Hard Reset itself.. she never turns it off or let it drop below 5% battery power.. when she went to work at 3, she went into her bag to get her phone and the phone had some how restarted itself again but this time, everything was back to normal as well as he files, and games she plays..
the phone just now has 20% power and she has tried 3 different chargers and the phone just wont charge now.
Anyone got any ideas on what's going on? i have searched the forum and cant find anythin relating to this problem..
The phone is full stock... she wont let me root it lol..
any help would be appreciated

I'm thinkin about that.. But does anyone not have any idea on what might be the problem first to see if there is an easy fix before i attempt to send it in?
Cause she's had the phone since it came out and not had any problems with it, until recently

The problem is you can't do much more. The only thing is a factory reset, but as you said its doing that already by itself. Maybe do it yourself 1 time from the bootloader.
Hold the power button and the volume - button as long as needed to see the bootloader and select there the factory reset.
Note : the phone loses everything, apps, settings....
All other options require unlocking and flashing but that will void the warranty that you still have now. So i do not recommend that in any way
i know about the Hard reset.. i've always rooted mine lol...
Thing is i need to wait unti 2 when she finished work then see if i can save some of the pics and other things from her phone before i attempt that and if that dont help then i'll just have to send it in... which will be best warranty or insurance??

Don't know. Mine is insured by my company
For damage i use the Vodafone insurance i have for it but cause it was not charging at all i could not attempt a hard reset so Voda took it in as a warranty fault so will wait a week to see what happens.

Last week I was at the bar taking a picture from some nice girls, unfortanly my Desire slipped from my hand an fell pretty hard on the floor. It was off an didn't boot. After a night without the battery, the next day it booted and worked for an week, no problems at all. Yesterday my phone shutted off again and now I can't boot it at all again, left it the whole night at the charger, but that didn't seem to help, ive searched the forums but nothing helped. The strange thing is, that it worked for an week and now it doesn't anymore. Does someone knows a proper solution for this, my phone is rooted and RCMixHD 2.0 is running on it. help?
Ok, I found out that I still have warranty at my provider! But, do they start whining if they found out my phone has an custom rom?

Hi.
I think that more than for sure there will be problems if they are able to find that you have ROOT-ed your phone since this breaks the warranty. Anyway try leaving it without battery in for a day and see if this can make the phone boot up. You could also try another battery, if you have a friend with the same phone or you are able to go to a store and ask to try out a battery to see if that is the problem.
If that is your problem you can, I think go to warranty and say that your problem is the battery.
It would be recommended that you run a RUU if you are to go to warranty. If they find out you messed with the phone I think your warranty will be gone forever.
If the battery is not the problem, then I think you can't do anything, since your phone doesn't even boot up, but go to warranty and pray that they wont examine too deep and see the root.
Still I have one curiosity: the led is still showing that you are charging the phone (the orange, green led)?

Thanx for your reply, I tried another battery but that didn't help . The led doesnt show up if I put an charger in it (tried with different chargers/cables the phone isnt doing anything. The last time it stopped working I didn't use the phone for about 8 hours, and after that I booted and worked fine for an week. So hopefully he wil work again this evening so I can make him stock again for warranty.

Hi.
As it sounds, it could be a motherboard problem, or the usb connection on the phone, or anything else, but since it isn't working with any battery then it is surely from the motherboard.
Hope it starts one more time so you can bring it to stock.
Even if this fails, there's nothing else to try but getting it to warranty and cross fingers.

Hi! My first post here and, sadly, not a pleasant one for me.
Today I, while charging my rooted Desire (Ginger Villain 2.8, if that matters), launched an app and it crashed (black screen but with status bar still showing). Since none of the buttons were responding, I took out the battery and then put it back in and tried to boot it. I went as far as the GingerVillain logo screen but then stopped the process. Since I was impatient (and dumb...), I pulled the battery out again. On the next boot process it halted at the white HTC screen. But now on the 3rd try it refuses to boot at all. No response what so ever when I press the Power button. Charge LED doesn't light up if I connect the USB cable.
What could I have messed up? Any solutions? I sure hope I haven't bricked it or something... Any help is appreciated!
Can you access hboot or fastboot? If yes, use the last one flash ruu. If not, use the search. There is a thread with nearly the same problem like yours and when I remember correctly, it got solved.
Power + Volume down doesn't work.
The other thread that seemed to be about this problem also involved some physical damage. My phone hasn't been dropped or soaked though.
I will try to get a hold of a charged battery and see what happens. Don't know why would it crash and burn like this considering that I wasn't installing anything. :/
Also some people suggested a while ago, to take out the battery and leave the phone alone for a few minutes, then try to boot again.

Had it sitting for approx. 4h with the battery removed. Put it back in and still no response what so ever. Power button doesn't do anything nor does plugging in a charger. Wasn't able to put in a charged battery because no one I know has this phone.
Not happy about this. And I'm pretty sure the tech support will just end up blaming the root...
Well, try to hold down the power button for at least 30 seconds while the battery is off. It works with notebooks. Other than that, no idea.
i guess mobo is dead, with roor you loose your warranty as well, so if mobo is realy dead you need to buy new phone, or try look on Ebay, but first sent it to htc just for diagnostic, we need to know what realy happend to your phone and after that look for advice

eehh..no.... if the motherboard is dead - so is the root, they won't know, so you still have your warranty.
My phone also randomly died on me once, it was rooted and S-OFF'd, sent it to htc and they repaired it for me. Don't worry about it just send it off. If it's dead it's dead.

Since I've never gave a phone for repairs, what are your suggestions regarding the SD card? I assume it's fine if I just remove it and bring in just the phone itself. Most of my apps are installed on the card, but I guess I can kiss them goodbye at this point, right?

no, all HTC as that you give them is your phone and your battery. No SIM card, no SD, no charger/ cables. Just the phone itself.
they dont need your sdcard, you should give them just phone, battery and thats all, everything else leave home, i just sent my phone with battery to repair, simple
Bumping this thread in case somebody finds it and wants to know the outcome. I gave the phone for repairs and the conclusion was a broken motherboard which they simply replaced.
I have to admit, I was ready to buy a new phone and now that I have my old one back, it's a kinda weird feeling. I definitely do want to upgrade to Galaxy S II but it's still bloody expensive. I guess I'll just wait till the end of my warranty (April next year) for even better phones to hit the market and upgrade then...
My phone hardbricked for no apparent reason, and I'm not sure what to do. Battery was at about 50% yesterday, it turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I did a soft reset, and it turned on. I watched it go as far as the logo and then had to walk away. When I came back, the phone was black again. And it hasn't turned on since. No logo, nothing. I've tried a soft reset, plus multiple other reset combinations. I plugged my phone to the computer, I get the normal connecting 'ding', but then it says that driver's device cannot be found.
I'm running stock firmware, no mods. No history of battery issues (except the normal slow decline). I've had the phone for a year and three weeks, so I'm out of warranty too. I called T-mobile and they said it sounds like a hardbrick and are willing to switch it out for $20 since I'm out of warranty. I can't do that since I'm out of the country for the next 1.5 months, so I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions on what to do or why this even happened?

does it respond to plugging in to charge? im not 100% but if its responding at all when it gets plugged in its not hardbricked only softbricked so go from there. when i hardbricked my first s2 due to a corrupt kernel file i flashed it would not react to anything at all. complete dead weight
U stated that when u plugged it into ur computer u got a ding then says driver device not found. Sounds to me that ur not in a hard birck when I bricked mine I didn't even get that. Check out the link it well help.

Thanks for everyone's help. I ended up sending in my phone to a Samsung service center (while I was in Korea). They confirmed that it is a hardbrick. They opened it up and said it looked like there was a short and it fried the motherboard. They couldn't tell me what caused the short--they said maybe some water got into the phone through the charging port, but I know that isn't true... I had it plugged into an old power strip and maybe that's why? :crying:
Either way, I was told my only option was to get the motherboard replaced which would be $200. I told them no thanks and that I'd just get a replacement phone from T-mobile for $20.

I know my story sounds unlikely, but it's the truth. Isn't this forum around to help fellow users? I have no reason to lie here. I actually take very good care of my phone and (after almost losing a laptop to a water spill) am extremely cautious about liquids around my electronic devices. You don't have to believe me since I'll get my phone replaced regardless. I just thought I would share the information in case someone else ends up facing the same problem.
Even now, the only cause I can come up with still is the old power strip frying the motherboard. *shrug* I would love to hear any other explanations.

I apologize if I'm having some misttakes in my text.
At first I just wanna begin with my latest experience with my HOX.
Several months it was running on OrDroid 15.0.0 with hboot 1.39 with no problems, suddenly one evening i had no WiFi connection anymore and I saw at my Wifi settings the word "failure" (German: "Fehler").
So i just did a clean reboot, but the phone diden't turn on, nothing!
Holding the Power Button or Power + Volume Down for a couple of seconds doesn't work either. Even the LED did not light up after I plugged in the charger. SoI let the phone settle over night and on the next morning it turned back on (thanks god!) BUT it was wiped, like I did the factory reset. All my apps and settings gone. I tried to recover from CWM but I got some strange "i/o failures" and nothing happened. I couldn't Recover my Backup.
So I was very pi**ed off! formatted the whole thing, flashed the latest hboot 1.72 (cid: htc_102) and installed MaximusHD 21.2.0 and everything worked fine again. A few days later I recognized for the first time some major lags during waking up the Phone. It took 2 seconds for the screen to light up and work. So I just did a reboot...after that the Phone went black and never turned on again. Its been 2 days now my HOX is plugged to the charger but no LED, no reaction...again NOTHING! Is it dead?
Anyone an idea for me? What about the warranty? Bought it November 2012 but its off course unlocked so may void the warranty...
Should I try to send it to repair?

If it does not turn on in any way with all button combinations there is absolutely nothing we can do. Sending it for repair will be the best.
Definitely sounds like it needs to go in for repair. If it won't turn on at all, you have no other option.

What about the warranty? I mean the phone is literally dead, there is no chance that they can look at the unlocked bootloader or am I wrong?
Depends on what they can do ! And you are registered at the HTC dev site to get an unlock code so there are always traces
As Mr. Hofs said. Once you've unlocked your bootloader via HTCDev they can match that with your imei number. You may get lucky though. There have been some people who have had it repaired free, others have had to pay. You don't really have any other option though.

My girlfreind had her unlocked HOX repaired for free too, but she got an issue with the connection between motherboard and screen, so it was possible for me to completly put it back to stock. Maybe she got lucky that they haven't checked the IMEI at htcdev.

I got my HOX back from the repair service.
They changed the motherboard and battery, now everthing is working again
There was no problem with my unlocked bootloader

Okay I recently wrote a thread about the random restrarts on my g3 that happened 10 times a day, but the things have gone too far. As i was having random restarts when I monstly use the camera but not only for about 5 days and some of those restarts were also shutdowns now the problem is more serious. Today i was intending to take a picture of something and as usual the phone restarted but STUCK on the startup boot "picture" that says that lifes good and then goes black screen and startup picture and black screen and so on. I wasn't able to use the phone. I pulled out the battery and tried again but it didn't worked. So as I went home i plugged the phone ot the charger and when i powered it on it started normally and tried to take pictures and there weren't any problems. So I think that this is the battery that is making this **** to happen. I highly doubt that this is software problem but from my quick examination i think that the problem is from the battery . What do You think. Tommorow i will go to my carrier and "ll try to explain them about this. But they are usually jerks who don't know anything about phones. They only know how to get your money.Anyways. Yes.

Are you rooted? Did you flash anything? Did you edit any system files? Looks exactly like when I bricked my phone. There is a fix. Check out this thread and the links in it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/lg-g3-unbricking-steps-clarification-t3119844
Also can you access download mode or recovery. You might want to try them first.
No I havent rooted it or made any system modifications. This problem occurs only when my phone isnt charging. When iits charging even at 100% there isnt any problem
I've gone to my stupid carriers office and explained everything but they do not want to give me a new battery unless they bring the phone to the other end of the country for repair. This is extremely stupid. Now I can't use my phone because its totally "bricked". I xan only use it with my original dc charger if i unplug it the phone shuts off. Yesterday Ive decided to make a factory reset, but i wanted to copy my internal storage to my pc, but the phone won't turn on when its plugged to the pc. I don't know what the **** is happening with this 500 piece of pancake.
well i have finally decided to do a factory reset but after the anticipation and thinking it is a software problem it isn't apparently. Maybe i will just send it to repair and hope that i wait less than 20 days for it to come back. And i hope that they don't figure out the problem and send a new phone but i think it is the battery that is the problem. Anyways the modern technologys are the most incredible thing and the most getting you pissed of one. You pay 500 dollars+ and expect something good and there you go .

Btw, getting phone to repair center is a good decision, they'll see what's wrong.
