I am trying to enable the option to move data to sd-ext on my ARC S , but it is not working , tried the reverse mount and it doesn't work either.
It only allows my to move the application , and i want to move the application data as well , so i can install and use more apps.
I tried ArcKnight Kernel , Lupus Kernel , Advance Stock Kernel , and all didn't work.
I am using Xperia Ultimate HD 3.0.2 ROM.
Could it be rom related ?
You must have an ext partision. In recovery you find that option but you must use a rom and kernel that support .ext partision
to create sd ext use MiniTool Partition Wizard then you dont format sd card
I did already try ext3 and ext4 and if you read my post I did mention that it allows moving applications and mount2sd shows the sd-ext partition, it just does not allow data to be moved

Hey Guys i just installed Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my Gio today. Its amazing and very stable. I first flashed cwm recovery then the rom, then gapps and then the patchv4 afterwards.
Since i cant post in the developers section due to less amount of posts, can anyone tell me what is a2sdtremor and simple2ext about? All i need is something that i can move anything to the sd card and keep more ram and internal memory free, should i install a2sdtremor or simple2ext from the cyanogenmod 7.2 thread? can anyone give me a detailed guide to install it and can i still make ext2 partition and install a2sdtremor or simpleext on this rom or i have to flash the rom again? A Detailed answer about making the partition and installing a2sd tremor or s2ext whichever is better will be appreciated.
Those are scripts that can make a ext4 partition on your sd card, look like internal memory. I recommend simple2ext
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
so i would have to make ext2 partition manually from pc first then flash cm 7.2 or i dont need to flash again? Can you explain briefly.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk
It can be buggy if you partition the SD Card from recovery, you need a card reader for this job, btw don't even think to partition when the SD Card is mounted on PC.
Thanks RacerBas and LegoGabi,
I actually do have card reader i can partition from that, what is the difference between ext2 and ext4? which one does simple2ext needs?
Just read in the CM 7.2 topic what partition needs.

Thanks guys i managed to do it with the ext4 partition. Now i have simple2ext enabled on my phone .
Mods can close this topic if they want.
go for s2e , it was especially developped for Cyanogenmod, so if you use CM 7 (7.1 or 7.2 --> s2e) if you want to use other roms than go for a2sd
If I do not have a partition for A2SD installed, and I run an a2sd script to enable it on a ROM, and move an app to the SD, does it still get fully moved to the SD? And can someone shed a little more light on this situation, with no partition space, but moving apps 2 sd/
Also, if I move an app to an sd, but do not wipe the sd:ext partition or sd card, but wipe all data partitions, will the app + its data be there if i flash a new rom?
i never wipe sd ext and all my apps are there for recovery once my new rom is up and running. As far as A2SD, i think you have to be partitioned for it to work. And the partition sdext2 must be upgraded to ext3. here is a walkthrough on how to partition your sd card... very easy this is how i did it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158993&highlight=partition+sd+card
Also if you are not using aomn_ra recovery id suggest using that instead of clockwork. some roms or kernels recommend flashing only with amon_ra
Here's the Amon-RA recovery which you can still flash CWM recoveries if you choose to http://www.mediafire.com/?6eo9jo7fdazp2 you may also want to read the thread on partitioning your SD card mentioned above

Some say ext 3 deteriorates the life of your sd card because it's constantly writing. I use ext 2 and it works perfectly.
Aside from that you must have a ROM and kernel that supports a2sd as well as swap if you choose to use it. Simply flashing the a2sd script won't work if neither conditions are met

OOPS forgot to mention that part. Aren't most non stock roms set up for a2sd? I haven't run into one yet that wasnt. I was under the impression that it had to be upgraded to ext3.
Ok so if I move my SMS app to ext-2 or ext-3, then if I wipe it all but that, and flash a new rom, they should be there on the new rom?
It does not have to be ext 3 to use a2sd. And some roms don't support it or they just don't have it installed
It would still be there, but the symlink won't I believe
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
symlink? What is that?
When you move apps to the partition, which is automatic, it creates a symlink in the drawer telling the down where the app is
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
And how does that have to do with its data?
Basically DT a2sd just sets up sym links from the normal place the apps folder would be to a location on your ext2/3 partition on your SD card. From the perspective of Android it just thinks the folder is in the normal location it is supposed to be then (even though under the covers the underlying Linux OS is actually reading/writing the SD card). This applies to both the apps plus there data if they store it in the normal location (some apps write their data to the normal part of the SD card in which case the data would still go there).
So, if you switch ROMs and that ROM has A2SD support, it should detect the SD-Ext partition and re-setup this sym link for you when you install the ROM and you will then have all your apps back (plus any uninstallable apps the ROM includes should go there). If your ROM doesn't support A2SD out of the box, as long as the kernel supports ext2/3 (whichever you formatted your SD card with) you should be able to flash DT a2sd after you flash the ROM and then run the a2sd script as root to set up the link to put the apps on the SD-ext partition again (I think this will preserve the apps that are there, but honestly haven't done it myself so you should make a nandroid of the SD-ext partition before doing this if you want to make sure you won't have to re-install your apps).
Hope this helps some.

the best would be ext4, as it is the most recent and allows faster data transfers but the downside of it is that some roms may not support it meanwhile ext2 is more of the universal type; widely used format.
ps: you can play safe by choosing ext3 instead
i just read other forums thats ext 4 is much better...but i dont remeber the forum link....
EXT2 is old
EXT4 may not work on some ROMs but blazing speed
EXT3 safe and fast.
PS. Don't risk repartitioning your SD with EXT4 just because it is the fastest. Choose to EXT3.

backup ur data
Use cwm » advanced» partition sdcard....
Make one ext3 partition less than 512mb & the rest fat32
Ext3 will be used as the extended internal memory for linking apps
fat32 will be mounted as your sdcard
Now reboot
Open link2sd, it will ask you for mount script » select ext3
Select settings » auto link...
now all set
Written this in brief..
For kernel flash use mai77 method
No bin count as it'll flash using cwm

It is an indication that you flashed a firmware which is non-stock .. in some samsung service centres warranty will not be considered if you have bin count..In only few countries though as no one cares to check them and they either dont have the knowledge to check them..all they know is "KIES" xD
I have a bin counter of 62 ..nothing happens..Just flash them freely

Hmm...which ROM are you using?
You must use a custom ROM having a2sd darktremor enabled to enable a2sd..
Im not sure about L2SD..But I can guide you...Did you get a "Mount 2nd Partition" message when you first run L2SD? Otherwise Click Left touch button-> Click More -> Click the "Recreate mount Scripts" On Link2SD and restart your device..
Go to any installed user application and on bottom it shows " Create Link" ..Press that and if it continues to show linking options then you have L2SD perfectly working..

For this to work you need to have a secondary partition of ext3/ext2 ..ext3 is preferred..Use CWM to repartition the SD card..
Creed and repencis supports both a2SD and L2SD ..chobits supports L2SD..
You can try this guide by CarlDeanCatabay which describes the L2SD process:

I prefer L2SD over A2SD as L2SD has more advanced options..

Its time to use Link2SD on the Arc (Xperia Ultimate HD Rom, Locked BL), so I've partitioned my sd (Main 27.76GB fat32 and 2GB ext2).
Link2SD recognizes the partition but when I try to move facebook (and other apps like OfficeSuite,TrackID)
I always get this failure message:
pkg: /vendor/app/facebook.apk
Failure
[INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_INSTALL_LOCATION]
Root Explorer was moved successfully but 728KB are still in phone memory (just a move to sd not link2sd)
I reformatted-repartitioned (+ext4) with the same result. Am I missing something?
Odp: [Q] Link2SD Error [Invalid Install Location]
I had similar problems. The reason is /vendor partition in Arc. I think this partition cannot be mounted r/w. The best solution is to flash LT18i stock ftf. Arc S has bigger /data and /system partitions and stuff from /vendor is mostly moved there.
Other idea is to try manually move files from /vendor/app to /data/app using file explorer. Then reboot and then try to use Link2SD. But I remember I had problems with few apps and also it can cause some errors and missing apps.

you can not use an 2 gb ext2 partition. it must be 1024 mb or smaller. for using ext4 partitions, you have to flash a kernel that supports ext4, i think stock kernel doesn't support that.
vendor apps can be moved, i have done that hundred of times

Finally did it
I deleted those vendor apps with Titanium and re-installed them (became non-vendor), so link2sd could do its job and move them to my 2GB ext2
You don't need Titanium for that. Just open Link2Sd and convert the system app to user app by clicking on the app, then click on the three dots on the top-right corner, then select Converto to user app. After that you have to restart and then you can move to sd, or link if you want to.
hi all,
the main reason for me unlocking my arc s was to mount an ext4 partition so there was no more agro with running out of internal ram.
ive tried various roms with various kernals and various scripts, the closest i got to one working was latest vengeance + latest viper + int2ext4+
but it kept lagging on video and internet..
i really liked viper but hdmi missing so waiting or 6.5....
ive just put lupusv16 + UHD4 + UHD mod and it is very impressive, the screen is better almost as stock with bravia2, hdmi very good and camera also very good, the question is which script definatly works properly with this setup? i dont want to move swap to int, just link ext4 on sd to int ram ??

Hi,
i plugged my 8gb sd card into my laptop and wiped it, then created a 6gb fat 32 partition, a 1.7gb ext4 partition & the remainder about 300mb as swap. then mounted fat copied hd4 rom, hd4 mod and int2ext to it. then into phone, booted to recovery, installed rom as per thread, rebooted phone, left it 20 mins, booted to recovery, flashed hd4 mod, rebooted phone, left for 20 mins, booted to recovery, installed int2ext script. rebooted phone, then it hangs on boot..
from what ive seen the int2ext scripts are difficult to get working correctly with no lag, fc's ect.

First of you are on ICS 4.0.4/stock fw 0587 aren't you.
Cos lupus kernel ver16 is for ICS.
Like what angel said both has got to be primary.
Your 6gb/primary/Fat32
Your 1.6gb/primary/Ext4
You should delete link2sd,or any other CronMod extension versions from your sdcard before you flash the CronMod INTEXT2.
After done flashing go to mount n storage and format sd-ext.Reboot.
If everything goes well look in titanium backup or setting/storage.It will show the internal memory you just acquired.
If you get bootloop after that then wipe cache and delvic cache and reflash it again following the above procedure again.
But I don't think you'll come to that.If all requirements are met than its a piece of cake.
Try it again. And one more thing,it doesn't lag if not it only faster from my experience using it.
Tell us of the outcome.By the way clicking the thanks button would be sufficient enough to anyone who assist you in the future here on xda.
Cheers.

Had you tried use an app for linking the ext rather than just install a script? I know that it's basically the same but still...
By the way, this is what i do, and its working:
0- Make a nandroid backup
1- Install Mini partition tool wizard
2- Clear the sd - Clic on apply
3- Create a new fat32 partition (13355 MB, 13GB) Default cluster and set as primary - apply
4- In the unnalocated space make the ext 4 partition (2GB - Journal) set as primary - apply
5- Copy the backup into the sd
6- format everything like when you install a new rom
7- restore
8- Download link2sd and select the ext partition
9- Reset
10- Move apps to it :/
My sd card is class 10 but honestly i dont feel so much difference with a class 4 :/

i re installed rom & mod again, tested game and it was fine, so its def the script, i used int2ext this time instead and it was slightly better as it leaves data on internal for speed so im going to leave it untill i get a class 10 card then try int2ext again.
