Int2ext ect,, do any work properly? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
the main reason for me unlocking my arc s was to mount an ext4 partition so there was no more agro with running out of internal ram.
ive tried various roms with various kernals and various scripts, the closest i got to one working was latest vengeance + latest viper + int2ext4+
but it kept lagging on video and internet..
i really liked viper but hdmi missing so waiting or 6.5....
ive just put lupusv16 + UHD4 + UHD mod and it is very impressive, the screen is better almost as stock with bravia2, hdmi very good and camera also very good, the question is which script definatly works properly with this setup? i dont want to move swap to int, just link ext4 on sd to int ram ??
cheers

With lupus kernel ver16 for ICS
only CronMod- INT2ext works even with partition ext4.
Am using the same.Internal up to 2.5GB,stock. ICS 0587 with said kernel.

Thanks dude, would be nice to see a matrix of kernals/roms/scripts so people know what works and what dosent, would save weeks of trial and error.
ill give it a go,

didnt work, hangs on boot...

Did you formated it correctly?
I mean, both partitions, fat32 and ext must be primary and some users told me that i have to do them with a sd reader...
I use Link2sd in GB and it works fine (ext4, 2GB minus the journal)

Hi,
i plugged my 8gb sd card into my laptop and wiped it, then created a 6gb fat 32 partition, a 1.7gb ext4 partition & the remainder about 300mb as swap. then mounted fat copied hd4 rom, hd4 mod and int2ext to it. then into phone, booted to recovery, installed rom as per thread, rebooted phone, left it 20 mins, booted to recovery, flashed hd4 mod, rebooted phone, left for 20 mins, booted to recovery, installed int2ext script. rebooted phone, then it hangs on boot..
from what ive seen the int2ext scripts are difficult to get working correctly with no lag, fc's ect.
cheers

First of you are on ICS 4.0.4/stock fw 0587 aren't you.
Cos lupus kernel ver16 is for ICS.
Like what angel said both has got to be primary.
Your 6gb/primary/Fat32
Your 1.6gb/primary/Ext4
You should delete link2sd,or any other CronMod extension versions from your sdcard before you flash the CronMod INTEXT2.
After done flashing go to mount n storage and format sd-ext.Reboot.
If everything goes well look in titanium backup or setting/storage.It will show the internal memory you just acquired.
If you get bootloop after that then wipe cache and delvic cache and reflash it again following the above procedure again.
But I don't think you'll come to that.If all requirements are met than its a piece of cake.
Try it again. And one more thing,it doesn't lag if not it only faster from my experience using it.
Tell us of the outcome.By the way clicking the thanks button would be sufficient enough to anyone who assist you in the future here on xda.
Cheers.

thanks dude,
its working, i formatted it with recovery and it worked?, i then checked the partition on my laptop and it wasnt bootable but it still works?
i then deleted the ext4 partition on my laptop and repartitioned it and didnt make it bootable and the phone booted straight up working.
i did use int2ext+ this time and not int2ext
dont know why it didnt work before unless something had put a file on the partition?
anyway

so i got as far a tesing a game, and its sooo laggy its unplayable.
im gunna forget it, i dont think my sd card is fast enough, benchmark 20ms read, 5ms write.

Had you tried use an app for linking the ext rather than just install a script? I know that it's basically the same but still...
By the way, this is what i do, and its working:
0- Make a nandroid backup
1- Install Mini partition tool wizard
2- Clear the sd - Clic on apply
3- Create a new fat32 partition (13355 MB, 13GB) Default cluster and set as primary - apply
4- In the unnalocated space make the ext 4 partition (2GB - Journal) set as primary - apply
5- Copy the backup into the sd
6- format everything like when you install a new rom
7- restore
8- Download link2sd and select the ext partition
9- Reset
10- Move apps to it :/
My sd card is class 10 but honestly i dont feel so much difference with a class 4 :/

Thanks for taking the time to reply
i re installed rom & mod again, tested game and it was fine, so its def the script, i used int2ext this time instead and it was slightly better as it leaves data on internal for speed so im going to leave it untill i get a class 10 card then try int2ext again.

[Q] Enable Link2SD or A2SD?

Anyone know how to enable and install Link2SD or DT's A2SD on a stock rom? I know Darkshado's method, when you need to flash simpligio without the modem. But is there a way without flashing another rom? I'm also aware of enabling of enabling A2SD for the Galaxy Ace but if I try this on my Gio, will it be safe??? Please help. Thanks for your time!
Hi,
I'm using stock froyo 2.2.1 (S5660DXKC3), rooted and using link2sd.
It very easy to install the link2sd. i suggest using class 10 microsd. Here is the step:
1. Using a PC/laptop, create 2 partition in microsd, 1st is fat32, 2nd is ext2. Set both are primary partition. i use the partition wizard home edition (is free)
2. Set the 2nd partition size not more than 1 Gb, i heard that it will cause an error if more than 1 Gb. Mine are set to 0.8 Gb.
3. Root your phone, i'm using super one click
4. Install link2sd from market
5. Insert your microsd to your phone
6. Start link2sd, it will ask for the 2nd partition. pick the ext2
7. Reboot/restart your phone
If you want to use A2sd on stock rom, use must use modified boot.img. A2sd can't work on standard boot.img (CMIIW)
And use custom kernel

To enable link2SD or a2SD on 2.2 it is very easy.but on gingerbread, you need to flash a custom kernel(such as phiexz's kernel),because of the kernel doesn't support init.d script.

Use a SD card reader!! Not from your phone!! Also you need custom kernel.
Ok first partition your SD card. Use the program call MiniTool Partition Wizard. This is on your PC. There are guides all over the web for this but I'll sum it up for youse. Make a SD-EXT with the options > Primary > Ext4 > 4Kb Cluster size
Download Darktremor's A2SD and put in the root of your SDcard. Once done plug SD back to phone. Make sure phone is off. Enter recovery and find the a2sd zip and flash. Reboot the phone and it will bootloop for maybe 2 times. Then it should have installed a2sd correctly!!
Hope this helps
merci! I DO indeed have a custom kernel (ArpegGioMod ftw) but I bit the bullet and installed Link2SD, and it seems to be performing okay.. slightly sluggish fps with Mupen64, but nothing a little OC can't fix. lol
Just for your information, you don't need to have a custom kernel for Link2SD.
I'm using it with 2 primary fat partitions on (rooted) stock 2.3.4.
And It's working like a charm.
Has anyone noticed that on a reboot link2sd starts to relink apps and sometimes some apps are removed from the phone. I have always experienced this and I have reinstalled link2sd many times, but the problem still persists.

Stupid Link2SD problem

Hello Guys, i need help.
I followed this guide to create a Link2sd system.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/12/12/link2sd-guide-never-worry-about-internal-memory-limits-again/
Link2SD Partition is FAT32 primary, other one is also FAT32.
My problem is, after moving my apps i have a lot of free space in internal memory. After the reboot, which takes some time, some apps are missing, and i have no free space anymore in my internal memory. What am i doing wrong? I´ve wiped dalvik cache through CWM, but that didn´t help. However, I can restore old system through CWM Backup, but i want a system with working Link2sd.
Using .69 rom.
Any tips?

Okay, when it seems to be this problem then i´m using ext format. But ext4 can only be used with some kernels, doomlords one right? But i thought it´s some kind of dalvik cache problem. I read that some people on a german forum pointing of that. But anyways, i´ll try ext3, want to see if it works better.
Now i know what the issue was: You can link max.10 apps at once, than you need to restart phone. Guess that was the problem. I linked too much apps at once and dalvik cache had a problem with it. But thx anyways for responding.

Low memory at boot
I have an odd problem ,,, Upon boot my phone has very low internal memory and I get an error.
About 1 to 2 minutes after boot, all of a sudden I get a large chunk of it back ... is something corrupt in my LINK2SD setup ?
The internal memory is so low at boot sometimes that it starts to F/C apps and sometimes doesn't even load the SIM card ...
Lib, dex files ?
... it seems to be the linking of LIB & DEX files upon boot, if I turn the option off within LINK2SD the memory stays low, if I switch it on and reboot then after about 100 seconds the memory comes back ...
Does this mean I will always 'owe' back the internal memory from LINK2SD ?
I thought LINK2SD symlinked to the files, which to my understanding was just a small shortcut places on the internal pointing back to the EXT partition
When the memory drops low at boot, it makes things FC error
When I link the lib and apk files, Link2SD works grandly. Maybe it's the dex files that's causing issues? Or maybe you chose the wrong file system when you first ran Link2SD?

Do you actually need the swap partition? Maybe you should just try to get link2sd running first.
And did you create your ext4 partition as a primary partition behind your fat32 partition? You could also try to use ext2 instead of ext4.
Problem
Ext4 is primary of course, ext2 not so quick as ext4, so what i shoul do?
So I have another one question, does Widfire s supported ext4, i use eoghan kernel for android 4, and custom rom by djoliver
Ok...

Ok... I had the same problem, I had a 32gb memory sd card so I thought 16gb for data and 16gb for music, BUT I folowed the tutorial and I found out the the mini partition tool box ruined my memory card... So I got a diffrentsd card, went into CWM recovery and If you go into the advance u will see something like partisioning. So if u go in that and select all u want and that should work... try to create 1gb or less... Since more than 1gb doesn't seen to be working well. After its done reboot and go to link2sd and it will see the partision so then u can select... ;D
Good Luck
James
P.S. Delete the curent 2nd partision before doing it, delete it with mini tool. If u want to see some magic flash data2sd.zip and u should see that the partision will be made as the internal memory and it will go there instead of linking ;D
Question
Thanks James I ll try it, but what the ext number created in recovery? EXT2? Or another?
Sd card wil formated?
Amm... I think ext2, but its better than nothing
P.S.: EXPLORE the recovery mode and you will find out more
Thanks
Thanks I do this
Can't you just use the Partition Wizard in ClockworkMod Recovery? Let's you choose your EXT size (upto 4GB) and a swap size (which i usually do 0M)...
Gl.
I also got the same problem with minitool partition wizard...ita useless in my case. So i tried partitoning with cwm which u cando by selecting partition sd card in advanced menu...it creates an ext2 partition. I suggest you to use cronmod's INT2EXT script as it seems far more better and easy than link2 sd!
Hit that "THANKS" button if i helped you...

After flashing Data2SD.zip, i got around 1.8GB as internal memory!! I have installed all the apps i need and things went fine till i restarted my WFS! After restarting all the apps installed on the ext2 partition were gone! All the widgets gone! Those missing apps seem to be unavailable. 5 mins after booting i got back the 1.8GB internal memory but the apps didn't get restored :crying: I can see them as list in Settings> Apps but not able to use them :crying: Any solution??? [Q] EXT-4 gone from sd after install of HTC Desire PARANOIDANDROID Woh 4.2.2

Hi There,
First off, this is my second time installing a custom ROM and I had someone else Root this phone but I used revolutionary to S-Off. I haven't installed a custom kernel and it's running clockworkmod 2.5.07.
I flashed and installed PARANOIDANDROID Woh 4.2.2 -------------------------------------->[v. 3.10b2/7th/March/2013] as per the instructions. Before starting I formatted the microsd card to 512mb of EXT4 with remaining 6.whatever Gig's of Fat32 (I used Minitool Partition Wizard on Win 7). Both were set as primary, while Fat32 was set to active, EXT4 was set to none (didn't think it made a difference?).
Everything installed fine, however, I first noticed issue when i went to run the terminal script for a2sd and it said it was read only (as attached). I tried to change permission to read/write and that didn't work. Then I realized after mounting USB storage connecting to Win 7 and opening Minitool Partition (because sd wouldn't show in My Computer) that all that was left on the micro sd was the FAT32 partition and nothing else.
So where do I go from here? I haven't added any Google account yet or did much else because there is only 14.65MB on internal now and I obviously can't send anything to sd and although I thought GAPPS went to sd in some form I guess not.
Can I recreate the EXT4 and push anything that was originally supposed to be on that partition onto it and then start installing apps there?... or do I need to repartition and reflash everything?
Also if I need to reflash, how can I ensure the same thing doesn't happen with the micro sd?
CWM wasn't formatting when I was trying to partition from Cyanogenmod 7 running Gingerbread (although then I read that CWM has bugs and could patition NAND and brick phone) so Minitool was my only sort of n00b option despite that I was having some issues but it seemed to be all fine before flashing 4.2.2.
Hopefully the attached photos will provide any further info you need to help.
Truly appreciate your help! This is my GF's Desire and I've been in the dog house playing with it all week (Cyanmod 7 was killing battery and was buggy, even stable version).
Thanks in advance once again!
** UPDATE ***
I just used my SD adapter directly into Win 7 and it's showing both partitions in Minitool and the Fat32 is available in My Computer showing music folders etc. However, the script for A2sd still never worked in Terminal Emulator saying "sh: can't create N: read-only file system"
So it appears the partition and the data is there and available but does the above message mean I can't send apps to the sd because it's read only?
Thanks again :S
Well one of your mistakes may have been using mini tool partition wizard. Many users have reported it's unreliability, and i've also had bad experiences with it in the past.
I would recommend using gparted to delete all partitions, and then using it to format the whole card to fat32.
Then install 4ext recovery instead of cwm, and use that create the ext4 partition.
If you need help on installing+using 4ext to create the sd-ext partition check out this guide
Finally do a full wipe, reflash the ROM, and activate a2sd through terminal emulator using:
Code:
su
a2sd install

Actually, I just ran your terminal codes above and that worked without reformatting or flashing!! It moved something like 94 or 96 apps and now shows 139 MB of internal storage!! Wow, I'm sooo excited. Imagine a n00b installing the latest version of Android on what is basically the original Android flagship HTC Desire/Nexus One!
BTW Should the developer maybe update with your script above vs the one listed which didn't work for me?
You guys rock!
I will start using GParted though and I assume using the liveimage USB would be best for me.
Now, I have to decide if I want to root my S3. I have 6 months left of my 1 year warranty so that's the only reason I've been debating it. Although most people say they've never heard Samsung not doing hardware repair just because a device is rooted. That sound about right?
Thanks Again!! So excited I'll end up using the old desire more than my S3!! lol

Despite the fact that it's working now, should I indeed start from scratch before she's gets too comfortable with this? Flash recommended recovery and reformat sd and reflash everything? (since I originally formatted with Minitool)
BTW it appears that when we install apps will they appear to initially go to internal but after reboot they move to sd, is this actually what is happening and we should always reboot after installs and updates? I just installed about 8 apps and the internal shows it's down to 39mb but then upon reboot it's back up to 76.46 (Originally at 139 but I assume it's all app data consuming it).
Do you recommend anything to occasionally clear app data to ensure there is always space?
For the S3 I would love it if you provided a link to root without tripping the flash counter! Gesh, I love Android more and more everyday (never an issue without solution)... this community rocks!

I just tried installing one more app ROM Toolbox (only 8.something MB) and it said insufficent space despite showing the above amount just before install. Before installing or updating anything when I realized the ext was still there, it showed I had 267MB available and I only just installed about 45mb worth of apps, likely updated about 40MB as well. So the ext4 shouldn't be full yet. Could this actually be because of the poor partition?
Ya all that stuff shouldn't be happening. I'm using the same ROM and have non of these issues, so its likely the ext partition.
Your best bet is to start again, and do what I said a couple posts up.
Which S3 variant do u have?

Thanks!

here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I'm going to attempt this now. First question is that the 4ext instructions say to download the updater, put on sd card and install. Then they instruct you to partition from there. They list the alternative as GParted.
You're saying to use GParted first and then install 4ext to partition. I just want to be sure on this but also if I format first, where I already have apps on sd will this mess anything up not allowing recovery flash or anything?
I suppose once I format the sd based on the current a2sd rom that only recovery will function. Just want to be sure on steps.
Thanks!

Code:
su
a2sd install
y
n
y

Also just to be sure, the link from xda for instructions on gparted say a bootable cd, however usb seems easier, is that okay to use instead?
Thanks (I'm growing

i said to use gparted to delete all the partitions, then use 4ext to make the ext partition. But now that i think about it, its probably more efficient to use gparted to do everything. So just follow the gparted method in the guide.
I would recommend creating a 1gb ext4 partition and whatevers left fat32. Also theres no need to make a swap partition for this rom.
Its perfectly fine to format the card even with the apps on it. Again just to recap this is basically what you should do:
1. Use gparted to completely wipe all partitions on the card just for a clean start, then create the fat32 and ext4 partitions (use the guide)
2. Once the partitioning is done, put the rom + and gapps on the card (on the fat32 partition)
3. Put the sd into the phone, boot into recovery and choose wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik
4. Flash the rom and gapps
5. Once the rom is flashed reboot and give it a couple minutes to settle. Then run these commands in terminal:
Code:
su
a2sd install
y
n
y
6. From then on, all apps you install should automatically go to the ext partition. I'd also still recommend installing 4ext recovery...i find it better for the desire than cwm.

ya that should be fine. Just make sure you create the bootable usb properly by following the instructions from their site
Why go to the hassel of downloading and using gparted when u can just use 4ext recovery?? if u have a bad partition, 4ext will say ur partitions aint aligned properly or something then u just partition with 4ext recovery. sorted

he used minitool to partition the card which may have corrupted it. Wouldnt it be safer to start fresh using gparted to wipe all the partitions, so that he wont have any further issues in the future?

minitool just doesnt align it properly, just use 4ext recovery. so all he has to do is save whatever from the sdcard to pc then partition sdcard with 4ext and it will be done right. trust me, if he flashes 4ext recovery then in recovery, goto tools and check partition alignment and i bet it will say ur partitions are not aligned properly. i tried minitool ages ago to see what all the fuss was about it being sh1te and 4ext said that my partitions aint aligned so i re partitioned with 4ext and all was fine again.
Well this is welcoming because 4ext seems much easier for a n00b like me if it'll work just as well.
I was going to do a 2gb ext4 partition, is that okay versus 1gb?
Btw do you recommend any custom kernel with the desire in this rom? I noticed it is a bit laggy at times and sometimes requires a few taps before certain things activate. Maybe kernels are a little too advanced for me now though?
Or maybe some cpu tweaks or anything. I do own ROM toolbox.

Anything over 1.5gb for the ext partition is not recommended, so you probably shouldn't do 2gb.
The kernel that comes with the ROM is usually the best for the ROM, and theres not much you can do about the speed in jb roms. Ive tried the supercharger script but i honestly didnt notice any increase in speed. If your looking for a faster ROM use gingerbread.
Also dont mess around too much in rom toolbox if u dont know what your doing, you might get stuck in a boot loop and you will have to reflash the ROM.
All had worked out well and indeed the original minitool said the fat32 wasn't properly aligned. The only thing which keeps aborting is the calendar fix. I noticed chrominum's post about corrupted for our sd, redownload, check md5 and reflash. If doesn't work reformat sd, clear everything repartition and try again.
I did all that and same thing. It doesn't say why it won't work but just aborting per attached.
It did work for me previously in cwm. I only installed the last rc and not the testing version of 4ext.

We were posting at the same time. I'm starting all over again with 1.5g and we'll also see if that helps the calendar fix work.
Thanks!

You will not brick your phone if you do not have an sd card
Partitioning sd card is useful when you want to increase the space for apps, which is very small (150 Mb). If you partition your sd card, choose one partition of 1 GB, ext4, and leave the rest in fat32. Then, when you will install the rom, it will ask you if you want to install scripts to increase space for apps. Select Yes.
If your sd card isn't partitioned, and if you don't want to get more space for apps, install none of these scripts or the rom won't boot.
Thanks 4 ur advise..i just bought this phone almost for 3 month n successfully unlocked bootloader and root yesterday..curenntly i just using the 2gb sd card in this phone till now..before i install the custom rom tht i mention before..do have i to format it or not??..coz i dun have any crd reader and i have 800mb sd card free space..

I flashed a new rom more than 100 times, all wiped, installed kernels that didn't work, and my phone never broke So what you have to do :
Reboot in recovery (VolDown + Power, then RECOVERY)
Make a backup of your previous rom
Wipe data, system, cache and everything (except sd card )
Install Marvellous Sense
When the installer will prompt about a sd script like Int2Ext, choose not to install it
Reboot
Enjoy your new superboosted phone

And when you want to increase internal memory, do this:
Choose which script you like (i recommend int2ext+, but that is my opinion), then go in recovery. Under advanced (i can't clearly remember, search for it), then there's an option partition sdcard (WARNING: THIS WILL WIPE YOUR SDCARD SO BACK IT UP) and first choose swap i think, doesn't really matter what size it is. Then an option that goes to 4GB, select your favorite size (i recommend 512 MB cuz you have 800 MB free and you only wanna chat) and then let it do it's work. Then flash your script, and enjoy your new memorized phone
-i recommend to do a nandroid backup before doing this, so nandroid and then put everything on pc
-if you use int2ext+, you can only install max. 400 mb of apps, because it uses 100 mb per 500 mb. When you want a partition of 1GB like me, you can install 800 mb etc etc.
Edit: here's the int2ext thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Good luck, hope this helped you
