You will not brick your phone if you do not have an sd card
Partitioning sd card is useful when you want to increase the space for apps, which is very small (150 Mb). If you partition your sd card, choose one partition of 1 GB, ext4, and leave the rest in fat32. Then, when you will install the rom, it will ask you if you want to install scripts to increase space for apps. Select Yes.
If your sd card isn't partitioned, and if you don't want to get more space for apps, install none of these scripts or the rom won't boot.

Thanks 4 ur advise..i just bought this phone almost for 3 month n successfully unlocked bootloader and root yesterday..curenntly i just using the 2gb sd card in this phone till now..before i install the custom rom tht i mention before..do have i to format it or not??..coz i dun have any crd reader and i have 800mb sd card free space..

I flashed a new rom more than 100 times, all wiped, installed kernels that didn't work, and my phone never broke So what you have to do :
Reboot in recovery (VolDown + Power, then RECOVERY)
Make a backup of your previous rom
Wipe data, system, cache and everything (except sd card )
Install Marvellous Sense
When the installer will prompt about a sd script like Int2Ext, choose not to install it
Reboot
Enjoy your new superboosted phone

And when you want to increase internal memory, do this:
Choose which script you like (i recommend int2ext+, but that is my opinion), then go in recovery. Under advanced (i can't clearly remember, search for it), then there's an option partition sdcard (WARNING: THIS WILL WIPE YOUR SDCARD SO BACK IT UP) and first choose swap i think, doesn't really matter what size it is. Then an option that goes to 4GB, select your favorite size (i recommend 512 MB cuz you have 800 MB free and you only wanna chat) and then let it do it's work. Then flash your script, and enjoy your new memorized phone
-i recommend to do a nandroid backup before doing this, so nandroid and then put everything on pc
-if you use int2ext+, you can only install max. 400 mb of apps, because it uses 100 mb per 500 mb. When you want a partition of 1GB like me, you can install 800 mb etc etc.
Edit: here's the int2ext thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Good luck, hope this helped you

A2SD/A2SD+ on stock HTC rom ?

Hi all !
OK after reading a lot of stuff on the web (mainly modaco and xda), I finally understood a bit more this Apps2Sd thingy.
Like most people I have an "internal storage" problem on my desire
Now I managed to have fully rooted HTC Desire, with security off even though the bootloader is 0.9x using unrevoked. Great piece of software
Great so far, but I still have a space problem.
After further reading, I finally understood that thestandard Froyo Apps2Sd sucks and still eats up loads of internal memory because apps aren't designed to take advantage of it and a few other reasons but I digress.
So the only solution is to install the unofficial apps2sd or apps2sd+ (the ony diference being that app2sd+ also moves the dalvik cache, right ?)
However, so far, I've only read explanations about using a2sd/a2sd+ with a CUSTOM rom.
Now I know that modaco and xda custom roms are just great (used to test a few with my old acer liquid) but well I'm very satisfied of HTC stock rom indeed. Seriously, I can't see anything to change.
So, I'd like to use a2sd/a2sd+ but avoid going through wiping the phone, falshing a new rom and all...Furthermore, I took some time to link the contacts between gmail and facebook and I wouldn't like to do it again.
Is this possible to use a2sd/a2sd+ using the standard HTC rom, without having to flash a new custom rom ? And if yes, could some kindly explain me how ?
Best regards
D.

Theres the script for apps2sd, not sure if you can just flash the .zip though.
IMO, you might not think there's anything to change until you experience the changes, just get a custom rom and reap the benefits.
No, you need init.d support. Get a custom rom.

Pre-rooted stock Froyo with optional a2sd+.
Allright, I finally decided to use LeeDroid's rom and, so far so good ! PLenty of free phone memory, with a ton of apps !! Thanks a lot for your usefull comments.
I was in the same predicaent yesterday, but gave up as I had to go out!
I had LeeDroid with A2SD on the phone, but it still ran out of space when I installed Need For Speed... but this was probably because I didn't have my SD Card partitioned.
Am I right when I think that I have to backup my SD Card, then go into ROM Manager and simply format the card in there for A2SD?
I tried this, but I still only see my SD card as 1 partition when I look in Windows 7. Is this right - or should I see 2 partitions?
Sorry for the newb questions - but I want to get it all sorted before I start setting the phone up the way I want!!
Windows cannot see ext type partitions, so this is ok. Yeah, backup, use ROM manager to make the partition, then recopy the backup.
Get Quick System Info from the Market, you'll see there if the ext partition is used afterwards.

Thanks for the reply.
I checked my partition with Quick System Info - and something must've gone wrong as my A2SD partition is only 16mb with only 2mb free!!
What settings am I supposed to use when I use ROM Manager to make the partition? I'm pretty sure I set the first one to 512mb and the second to 0mb like I read somewhere. Is this wrong?
Yeah, thats ok 512mb for apps and 0 for swap. Try it couple times, maybe the ROM manager didn't do it properly for the 1st time. Check with Quick System Info when its done.
Actually, you can use anything you want to format your microSDHC card. I used a computer with linux, a card reader and gparted, and I found it way more straightforward than using the phone to do the job. Gparted is included in Ubuntu and yu even have gparted live disk/usb (go to gparted.sourceforge.net. Sorry can't post links on the forum yet )

Hi,
i was lookin for a solution too and i found it.
I am running on stock rom froyo 2.2 on my htc desire.
16gb micro sd card. - no data loss.
Here is the steps.
HTC desire has to be rooted. and S-OFF (not sure if it works without S-OFF)
Busybox installed.
Next , download Gparted to partition your SD Card. (can run in VM )
Run Gparted, mount your card, USe Gparted to shrink your sd card. (i have my pics and videos inside the card up to 12gb.. and i shrink to 13gb.. It takes a looooong time.. about 13 mins to shink.. thank god my data is still intact..
i partition the extra 1gb.. set it as primary too and then format it as ext2... i have tried ext3 and ext4.. it cant be recognized by Desire.
put back yr SD card.. (if you use a card reader.. or can jus partition using Desire mounted as disk drive)
Next.. download. Link2SD , search in market..
Run the app and it will be able to detect and ask you to select the drive.. ext2 and press ok.
now.. use the app to link up yr app.. those with FRoyo app2sd.. u can click 'move to phone' and then use link2sd to link it..
you will start to see that your internal memory will increase as u move and link more apps using link2SD...
Now go to the link2sd option and set it to 'auto link' new installed app.
once u installed any new app.. it will be linked...
if the app is auto installed to SD card via the Froyo app2sd.. simply go to manage application and move it to phone and the use link2sd to link it..
(no.. you will not see the 1g size when u go under settings, you can check storage under the link2sd app)
Note: once u mount yr Desire as disk drive .. you will need to reboot your phone else if you install any new app.. it will be install to your real internal memory even thou it says linked... if this happens.. you might see low memory notification.. jus reboot your phone.. and when rebooted, it will be re-link automatically..
Cheers! i used to have 15mb left.. now i have 50++ mb.. and yet installed alot of apps.. without flashing a rom.. this will helps if you guys jus need more internal storage and do not wat to risk or go thru the restoration of data..
as usual... before you do anything... do a nandroid backup using clockworkmod recovery or any recovery and also titantium backup to backup the apps data in case anything goes wrong
Phone working well for the past 3 days
That's just AWESOME !! Many thanks for the tip, that's exactly what I was looking for

[Tutorial] Create SD-EXT Partition W/Clockwork Mod 1.2

No Need To Use G-Parted or other complicated tools!!!!
I have fully tested the new CWM 1.2 and can now confirm that you can now make SD-EXT partition for use with APPS2SD+. Below is a step by step guide on how to do it:
Download the CWM v1.2 from RaiderX's Post and remember to say thanks!!http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898913
RaiderX Instructions for new user;
1. download one of the partition files, if you don't know which one you need, use the 250M one or check with rom developer.
2. Extract downloaded zip to a folder of your choice
3. Copy contents of copy_to_sd_root (initrd.gz and zImage) to the root of your sd card
4. boot into magldr and select USB Flasher option while phone is connected to PC
5. Run DAF.exe included in the zip and follow onscreen instructions.
6. After complete, again boot into magldr and select "Boot AD SD" option
7. ClockworkMod recovery should load, you can flash a rom from here.
Now once you have done this:
> GO to advance and then partition SD card
> Remember this will wipe the sd card so back everything up if need be
> Choose how much space you want on the partition then then choose 0MB for swap
>PLEASE NOTE PARTITIONING WILL WIPE THE SD CARD SO YOU WILL NEED TO GO INTO USB STORAGE MODE IN MAGDLER AND COPY THE 2 FILES FOR THE SD CARD FROM THE CWM DOWNLOAD
>and hey presto your done
> Remember you need to use an APPS2SD+ rom for this to work!
There are many benifits of this using EXT-Partition such as you apps will automatically transfer to your partition and many others you'll find out for yourself
Please Note: Not every app will get stored on the SD-EXT partition no matter what you do as there meant for the internal memory
i have 2 gb mcard,need help
Just follow the instructions doesn't matter on the size of your memory card, just choose an adequate size for your partition

you might want to add that this will also wipe the CWM files off the SD card so will need to use the USB Mass Storage option in magldr to copy the files back over
good
Thanks for this simple tutorial, bro. But may I ask. What is swap. What the best recommended size for it. Sorry for noob question.

Thats not a problem as most roms support this its EXT4 that some roms don't support, but check the rom thread just in case

If we do a SD-EXT partition for use with APPS2SD+, will installing/uninstalling app lag? And how is the performance when compare to installing in phone memory?

No it will not lag and performance wise its should run faster as it has more space to place with and will not decrease the internal phone memory

Will all applications be installed in this extension? And will it cause any error when application, that required install to phone, are installed in this extension. For example,in MDJ CM7 2.2, Angry bird is required to install in phone memory in order to work.

It wont cause any error like i said before not all applications cant be installed to the ext partition so some applications will be installed to the internal phone memory, As for angry birds it will automatically install to the SD-Card partition as i have bot the season and normal version installed and they both run fine on the SD-EXT partiton
where could i get APPS2SD+ from ?

[Solved] New SDCard formatting and flash new ROM

Hi, i want to buy a new bigger SDCard for my ArcS and have 2 questions
In the shop near me they have a Sandisk Ultra 32GB.
But the Android formatted version is not in stock, just the normal one for PC, and it´s cheaper about 5€ (~7$)
Can i format this normal one in CWM (i have Custom Kernel) for Android (extSD with 2GB ext3 should also be partitioned).
Second Question is: must i first flash the stockROM 587 with flashtool to this new and empty card (and maybe select exclude kernel in flashtool, otherwise i think i must relock the bootloader?) ,
or can i just put the zip from the custom ROM or my Nandroidbackup on it and flash via CWM?
Thanks in advance :good:
Format and partition the card with CWM, copy your old files to your new card, done. Not sure what led you to ask the second question.

You can format also from PC (it's more friendly i think), if you want use Link2SD, you make two partition, first in fat32 size 20-22 Gb where you put tour data (photo, music ecc...) and second 8GB in ext2/3/4, second partion is used from Link2SD for link-app. Two partiotn must be primary, and you must to create firt the fat32 partition and than the ext.
Second question, you put zip rom and flash it from cmw. I think that it no problem.
Thanks for reply XperienceD , so i will buy the PC formatted card. :good:
My second question was about, that i didn´t know if i can install the customROM i will use when there was no android on the card before. (the customRom is stock-based),
and i thought that maybe there must be some files from the original Sony-ROM on the card to install a stock-based custom-zip.
I won´t use my existing installation-files and copy them on the new card, i want to start the new card with a clean installation.
Thats why i asked about flashing the original 587.ftf, and for flashing original ROM the Bootloader has to be locked (i have read that in the guide "how to lock bootloader again" on a german Android-Forum)
So ok, i just need the customROM-zip and install it on the blank card with the CWM from Kernel, right?
Flashing WiFi modules again after ROM is also recommended i think?
Hope you understand what i mean, cause english is not my native language

Yes i will use Link2SD for the extSD, i also have it now on the original Sony 8GB SDcard with 1GB ext3.
But you say about 8GB for extSD partition, i have read that for best compatibility the partition should not have more than 2GB?
I will use Paragon Partition Manager on my PC, i think that will be the easiest. First create the FAT32 an then the ext one. The FAT has to be the first on the Partitiontable, i knew that.
For Link2SD the second should be ext3, thats what people say in ArcKnight Kernel thread.
btw: yanner2012, sorry for not clicking "thanks", but i have reached the limit for today , i will do it tomorrow. :good:

ext no limit do not worry. It's also my configuration and no problem :good: The partion's sizes is my advice but you can custom it. I don't advice more 8Gb for ext partion...you reserve more size for fat32 where you put your data (photo, ecc..) .
@yanner2012
OK, so i will make about 3-4GB.
I think that´s more than enough. At the moment i have 200mb free from 1GB on my extSD.
I don´t have so much apps/games on the phone, for games i have a good pc
Thanks again ! :good:

Place a blank SD card in the Phone and the only thing that will be affected is any installed app that uses a folder on it, the system however will just rewrite any needed files.

[Q] How to make Wildfire recognize SD partition as internal storage

Hello development community
I'm currently running an CM 9 on an unlocked, rooted Wildfire S. A while ago I created a 4 GB partition in my SD card (Ext 2 format I believe) and set link2sd to install all new apps to this partition (this is the tutorial I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31544540 )
Anyway lately I've been having trouble installing new apps and larger updates (Facebook and DoubleTwist, namely) and my phone keeps telling me that I don't have enough memory. I tried wiping all my cache data and generally cleaning up, still no luck.
So I checked my storage usage in my settings, that's when things got interesting. My phone is telling me that I have 150 MB total of internal storage (which is how much there is without the partition), but somehow I have 229 MB used with 21.63 MB free. Doesn't take a mathematician to figure out that i can't be using 250 MB when there's only 150 MB to be had, however this 250 MB it's telling me I have is a lot less than the 4 GB of space I formatted and am linking everything too.
Does anyone know a way to get the phone to recognize the partition as internal space so it stops telling me I'm running out? I should be able to install any apps to my phone via my computer since they won't install directly from Google Play. Or is there a way I can set everything to just automatically install to the partition? That would solve my app installing problems but I might run into storage problems later on depending on how full my caches get. The more steps your give me the better, I'm still pretty new to this stuff :silly:
Thanks for any help!
PS. I checked some other threads but nothing I saw was helpful; so sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I didn't find it.
After flashing rom did u flash the latest cronmod script

First of all, you can never use 4GB of your card as a partition Since there are some restrictions-- 100mb internal is needed for every 500mb sd-ext. We are getting around 100+ internal only for most of the ROMs , right? So you can use only around 600-700MB of the SD card as a partition.
Use min-partition tool and format your card and better make use of that card to the max. Format with ext4 (your choice) for around 700-800MB (Since 1/2/3/4GB is totally useless considering the above restriction) . After that, download and place this on SD card .
Before we go any further make sure that there are no scripts already loaded in that ROM you are using. (Apps2SD, Link2SD, etc). You need to have init.d support to make this work. This , you can verify by opening the ROM zip package and follow the path - system/etc . If you see a "init.d" folder there, then you have this support. All CM9 ROMs have this (I believe). So, now you make sure that the ROM whichever you are trying doesn't have any link2sd or apps2sd pre-loaded in it.
Then do the following.
* Put both the ROM and INT2EXT file on the SD card.
1- Goto Recovery.
2- Wipe Dalvik Cache, Battery Stats (Twice - Just to make sure )
3- Factory reset , Wipe Cache partition (Twice)
4- 'Choose zip from SD card' and select your ROM. Wait until it has finished installation.
5- Once Finished, again 'Choose zip from SD card' and flash/install the INT2EXT file that you have already placed on SD card.
6- Once done, reboot the phone. Goto settings->Apps and check if you have 'added' memory now
7- Go to recovery again and Flash GAPPS.
You are all set to Rock and Roll
Check this if you need more information
Hey, this will give you better space manipulation than the Link2SD, but still this is also limited to use, You can't fill all the internal memory. That will considerably lag your phone. Use the internal memory wisely
I guess this helps. And don't forget to thank "croniccorey" for his work
Thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much for the post! I know it's been a while since the OP, but this worked perfectly! My phone now tells me that I have 705MB of internal storage. I believe all my problems have now been solved. I literally can't say "Thank you" enough!

Int2ext ect,, do any work properly?

hi all,
the main reason for me unlocking my arc s was to mount an ext4 partition so there was no more agro with running out of internal ram.
ive tried various roms with various kernals and various scripts, the closest i got to one working was latest vengeance + latest viper + int2ext4+
but it kept lagging on video and internet..
i really liked viper but hdmi missing so waiting or 6.5....
ive just put lupusv16 + UHD4 + UHD mod and it is very impressive, the screen is better almost as stock with bravia2, hdmi very good and camera also very good, the question is which script definatly works properly with this setup? i dont want to move swap to int, just link ext4 on sd to int ram ??
cheers

With lupus kernel ver16 for ICS
only CronMod- INT2ext works even with partition ext4.
Am using the same.Internal up to 2.5GB,stock. ICS 0587 with said kernel.

Thanks dude, would be nice to see a matrix of kernals/roms/scripts so people know what works and what dosent, would save weeks of trial and error.
ill give it a go,
cheers

didnt work, hangs on boot...
Did you formated it correctly?
I mean, both partitions, fat32 and ext must be primary and some users told me that i have to do them with a sd reader...
I use Link2sd in GB and it works fine (ext4, 2GB minus the journal)

Hi,
i plugged my 8gb sd card into my laptop and wiped it, then created a 6gb fat 32 partition, a 1.7gb ext4 partition & the remainder about 300mb as swap. then mounted fat copied hd4 rom, hd4 mod and int2ext to it. then into phone, booted to recovery, installed rom as per thread, rebooted phone, left it 20 mins, booted to recovery, flashed hd4 mod, rebooted phone, left for 20 mins, booted to recovery, installed int2ext script. rebooted phone, then it hangs on boot..
from what ive seen the int2ext scripts are difficult to get working correctly with no lag, fc's ect.
cheers

First of you are on ICS 4.0.4/stock fw 0587 aren't you.
Cos lupus kernel ver16 is for ICS.
Like what angel said both has got to be primary.
Your 6gb/primary/Fat32
Your 1.6gb/primary/Ext4
You should delete link2sd,or any other CronMod extension versions from your sdcard before you flash the CronMod INTEXT2.
After done flashing go to mount n storage and format sd-ext.Reboot.
If everything goes well look in titanium backup or setting/storage.It will show the internal memory you just acquired.
If you get bootloop after that then wipe cache and delvic cache and reflash it again following the above procedure again.
But I don't think you'll come to that.If all requirements are met than its a piece of cake.
Try it again. And one more thing,it doesn't lag if not it only faster from my experience using it.
Tell us of the outcome.By the way clicking the thanks button would be sufficient enough to anyone who assist you in the future here on xda.
Cheers.

thanks dude,
its working, i formatted it with recovery and it worked?, i then checked the partition on my laptop and it wasnt bootable but it still works?
i then deleted the ext4 partition on my laptop and repartitioned it and didnt make it bootable and the phone booted straight up working.
i did use int2ext+ this time and not int2ext
dont know why it didnt work before unless something had put a file on the partition?
anyway
cheers

ok, its working with apps and streaming video is fine ( it wasnt before it was really laggy and fc)
so i got as far a tesing a game, and its sooo laggy its unplayable.
im gunna forget it, i dont think my sd card is fast enough, benchmark 20ms read, 5ms write.
cheers

Had you tried use an app for linking the ext rather than just install a script? I know that it's basically the same but still...
By the way, this is what i do, and its working:
0- Make a nandroid backup
1- Install Mini partition tool wizard
2- Clear the sd - Clic on apply
3- Create a new fat32 partition (13355 MB, 13GB) Default cluster and set as primary - apply
4- In the unnalocated space make the ext 4 partition (2GB - Journal) set as primary - apply
5- Copy the backup into the sd
6- format everything like when you install a new rom
7- restore
8- Download link2sd and select the ext partition
9- Reset
10- Move apps to it :/
My sd card is class 10 but honestly i dont feel so much difference with a class 4 :/

If not works, maybe you should try asking to jader coz he made the rom you use

Thanks for taking the time to reply
i re installed rom & mod again, tested game and it was fine, so its def the script, i used int2ext this time instead and it was slightly better as it leaves data on internal for speed so im going to leave it untill i get a class 10 card then try int2ext again.
cheers
