Hi since the last firmware update on note 2(4.1.2) my usb connection to computer have stopped working i plug it and just charge, odin, kies and windows device manager dont recognize it, i have tried in 3 differents computers with 2 differents cables, also a s3 have worked in all computers with both cables, also have restored to factory settings. The charge speed its the same and phone port seems fine. The phone is 2.5 months old, and wasnt rooted.
Can it be firmware problem or its hardware? did the warranty cover this? Also is someone with the same problem?
Should i try flashing to other rom?(with the recovery mode only)
Thanks and sorry for bad english.
i think its firmware problem, if i go download mode the phone is recognized and can flash it with odin
Try changimg to mass storage (ums) imstead of mtp...

I can't get USB mounting to work on my linux PC, windows PC, or work windows laptop.
The computer completely fails to recognize the phone, even when I manually tell it to connect as usb storage device.
I've tried three different USB cables.
ODIN mode isn't recognized either, no USB devices are detected and Odin does not display an ID for the phone.
So WTF do I do know? I believe I need to return to stock firmware but I don't know how without using Odin.
You need to download the drivers for your computer in order for it to read your device. I believe its somewhere here in the forums if not Google it. I would post a link but I'm not on my computer

You can download the drivers from the how to root thread in the dev section.

Are you using the original samsung cable? Mine refuses to be recognized by my pc's if it's not the original cable, works fine with the original but the system never picks it up with any others.

Did you try installing Kies SW from the Samsung site? Installing this SW will also install all of the appropriate drivers on your PC.

And?? Solve the problem or what? We been hanging here for years
Hi,
All of a sudden my gio decided not to support USB anymore.
When I connect it, no mass storage thing appears on the phone, and in windows (windows 8 and 7) there are no signs of any device being connected either.
Even ODIN doesn't find it when it's in download mode, although I do have the drivers from sammobile installed.
Except for this the phone is operating normal, and it still charches propperly (which goes through USB too ).
Any ideas? I don't really need the USB connectivity right now, but in case I want to flash back to a stock rom I do need ODIN to work.
Thanks in advance,
Stannieman
Have you covered the basics yet (try another cable, try on another pc etc). Seems to me like a faulty cable or faulty usb port, either on phone side, either on pc side.

My external hdd works with the same cable on the same pc and same usb port. I have tried all ports. Mass storage also doesn't work on a macbook pro, though I don't know for sure if it is supported on OS X but I suppose it should work. Different cable doesn't work either.
It's not the cable and not the pc.
So I think in the luckiest case it's the connector in the phone?
Friday I'll open it, there's some annoying piece of dust on my screen also so I can take that out too + check for the connector.
In this case, yes, you may be right about the phone's port; remember, even if it's somehow flawed, it could still charge - maybe only the data pins are the problem. Hopefully, it will be only some dust blocking the connection, and not something worse...
Good luck!
If the connector is detached from the board then it's also doable (very careful of course), otherwise it won't ever work anymore.
I can't take it to the shop you see, I can't flash a stock rom...

Thanks, but doesn't work.
I've had problems with charging one day, but after an hour of trying (unplugging and replugging) the cable it started charging again. Never had charge problems after that.
Actually, I don't know if data ever worked after that. Now I think about it I never tried data connection since then.
Usually when I flash a new custom rom I always flash the latest stock to have latest baseband and other things that aren't changed by the custom rom install (I like having the newest ). That's the only thing I use usb for (and photo's but not anymore with cm9 without preview).
I think it's the usb connector from the phone.
stannieman go to the shop where you bought it and ask if they can look at it
I returned home yesterday and tried connecting to the desktop. Guess what?... it worked.
I don't understand why, as the hardware of my notebook didn't change and it always worked. I tried windows 8 rp and windows 7 (windows 7 used to work for sure), but nothing on my notebook. On the desktop it works just fine with windows 8 cp.
So I think we can conclude that either it's my notebook + macbooks don't work together with android, or that our desktop has magical powers.

I bought a Korean Note II (SHV-E250S) and my computer wasn't able to recognize it from the get-go. Now, I installed a rom that caused my phone to be stuck at the first screen and I can't connect my phone in download mode to restore it. I tried a different cord (supposedly OEM), reinstalling kies, downgrading kies, installing just Samsung USB drivers, uninstalling the unknown device driver, shutting down the computer, installing updates, reupdating kies, emergency software recovery/upgrade, switching USB ports, USB debugging on/off (when the phone still worked). I'm literally out of things to try. Any help will be appreciated.

No. Sorry. I made a back up in clockwork recovery but I get an error MD5 mismatch.
Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43)
The phone is now soft bricked and I get Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43 I sold it to someone with a T-Mobile rom and N7100 clockworkrecovery. They updated clockworkrecovery and now the phone just boots into recovery and then restarts. I cannot get the phone to connect to the computer at all. I get an error. I have tried talking with support but they tell me to try everything that I have already done, such as; different usb ports, cords, computers, had the usb port replaced, reinstalling software (all of them), and restarting download mode.
any development?
I have the same problem, device descriptor request failed.
Luckily, im not bricking the phone yet.
Nothing
I gave up on that phone. What have you tried?

Some search on google told me that we need to fix the usb pin.
Im not yet trying it. Im afraid it will cause another problem. So i leave the phone as it. Even though i cant do anything to update the phone. (Maybe i do have change to update the phone, but it will take a risk)
Try to fix your usb port pin.
On the phone? I had the pins on the USB port replaced and I bought a new USB port from China with no help. I also tried 5 different computers (both mac and pc) as well as different oem USB cords.

Thank You!

Hi Guys
I hope someone can help me I have a very strange problem. My galaxy note 2 is not detected by my computer at all (Not a driver issue, not seen at all) It charges fine.
Things I've tried so far are 3 different cables,
Two different Computers,
Reset phone to stock out of box state.
And the one that gets me the most is I even changed the whole USB board assembly. (I was sure it had to be a broken USB port
Still no joy.
The problem now is if I can't connect it to my computer I can't reroot through Odin.
Any Ideas?
Also is it possible to root phone again from stock without connecting USB to PC.
Thanks in advance.
USB port not conecting to pc SPH L900 note 2
