Headphone issues!! - HTC One X

Well I have been using skullcandy earphones for the past 2-3 months.. a couple of days back I noticed that when I pit in the headset, I noticed that it was not being recognised by device... At first I thought it was a problem with my earphones so tested them with a bunch of other devices including my old galaxy ace, laptop and a blackberry (my fends)
Then I thought maybe it was a jack problem and tried using the default earphones that I got along with the device... And they seemed to be recognised perfectly...
Upon multiple tries it did recognise my skullcandy but I had to like restart my phone each time or try smtn like locking and unlocking my phone...
Again I though maybe my headset has smtn broken and dipped the pointy end in a lil bit of saltwater... I know the idea sounds stupid but since salt water is a conductor of electricity, I thought I wild find out if it was because the suppuration wasn't being passed on to the headphones... So when I did this and connected the headphones, they worked absolutely perfectly and were recognised by the device...
Also I installed toggleheadphones that I am using as a temporary solution but I cannot use beats audio mode while using the toggle
Also I am running jb and it is an relocked device which I rooted aat a point but then decided to remove root access... It has never been custom rimmed and I reflashed stock rom after removing clockworkmod..
So my question is shuld I try to reach out to HTC and ask for repair or is it a headphone issue or if it is an os problem and mainly if there is a permanent fix....
Any help is appreciated =)

Bump!! Anybody?

try to take it back to the shop. or better yet, service center
there must be a problem with the jack, cos' my HOX combined with my AKG delivers amazing music..
or maybe you haven't update the software yet?

I did upgrade the software... Anyother pair works just fine =|… So yeah... Will take it to a service center this week sometime...

I had the same issue with my Beats Tours. No problem with my 20$ headphones though. Use a flashlight to look inside your jack. Things you wanna look for us cracks dust and dirt. Also there is a spring loaded connector near the top-ish on the same side as the mic hole by the jack hole. Make sure that connector isn't over compressed and try to use tweasers to pull it back out. If you need to clean inside use methanol hydrate or isopropyl alcohol on a cotton tip.

[Q] Headphone port issues

Hey XDA,
I bought my Desire HD online from the Australian Vodafone store, since doing so I have rooted it (and lost the original image). Recently I have had issues with headphones on the phone, the right channel cuts in and out reguarly and the left channel doesn't get anything through it.
Is my best chance trying to find a stock Desire HD image online somewhere and sending back, or can someone suggest something else?
Also worth noting, I bought a new set of headphones today to test and they had the same issues.
Have tested with cm7 and rchmix
Cheers,
priorax.
I had a similar issue, check the headphone port for pocket fluff, i know it sounds daft but it worked for me. Use an unfolded paperclip to remove any fluff / lint that's in there.
Hope that sorts it out!
If you aren't using stock headphones, try Headset Blocker;
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.idunnolol.headsetblocker
If they're original, maybe an issue with the socket or board = warranty. In this case have a search around for returning phone to stock branded, removing S-off etc. I think you need to dig out the gold card

Haven't used stock headphones at all. Shall try headset blocker.
I saw a minor improvement with headset blocker, however if I so much as touch the male part of the headphone connector, it cuts out one channel.
No one uploads stock images by any chance, do they?
Headset Blocker will not help your issue. It has nothing to do with your problem. Sounds like you have pocket lint in your plug or your plug is coming loose off of the motherboard. Or...... have you tried another set of headphones as yours may have breaks in the wires?

I have tried so far:
Sony (can't remembr model number)
Cheap Phillips ones I bought from the supermarket for testing
Plantronics Gamecom 367
Plantronics Gamecom 377
3 seperate 3.5mm cables going to a headphone amp with the Sony's as output
The Phillips were DOA.
Every other alternative had this issue.
After testing each set on my phone, I tried them on my laptop, and they worked fine (except for the Phillips, this was about 20 minutes after buying, so I'm claiming DOA).
Seems you've tried everything except original HTC, so apart from that,.....
Warranty or repair. Have a search of the forums and google for return to branded stock firmware.

Faulty headphones

Hi guys I bought this new headphone RC-E160 made by HTC some 2 months ago and now the right speaker has stopped working just like the headphones bundled with HTC. Has anybody encountered similar problems with their headphones, is it possible to fix it
Probably a faulty wire. It can be fixed, but because you are asking this question, I can assume you do have the knowledge and the required materials.
Tried to reply lol sent pm

Well, I have the same problem with my old headphones. One speaker doesn't work. I found out that there is something wrong with phone's jack connector. When I press the headphones into the phone (I have to use a lot of strenght..), it works, but when I stop pressing the headphones into the phone, it moves a little bit, and the contact between phone and headphones is lost.
My waranty is void because of root, so I decided to buy a bluetooth headphones, does anyone have any experience with it?
That was my exact problem also! Try shaving a Q - Tip and lightly dip it in rubbing alcohol and give it a swab, it worked for me being an old phone I just figured dust build up, also I switched to a pair of Marley headphones that claim wont break and the jack is quite strong, still got my WFS even though I recently upgraded to gnex. Hopefully that helps, if not I'd say replace it, use amazon for ANY cell phone replacement parts you need and YouTube for several tutorial videos!

[Q] Distorted Audio via headphones

I bought this phone used and didn't find out until later that the headphone jack plays distorted music.
Here's an example. Everything else with the phone is fine. In this video I taped the headphones to the mics on my laptop.
[edit] crap, i'm a noob and can't post my youtube vid. This is the title of it if you want to hear an example:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Distorted audio via headphone jack.
Here's what I've done so far to try and solve it.
1. tried 5 different sets of headphones.
2. made sure they were properly seated in the jack.
3. cleaned out the jack for possible debris.
4. disassembled phone and replaced jack with a new part.
5. disassembled phone and cleaned the motherboard and all connections with Electronic cleaner and a toothbrush.
6. Reset phone
7. tried several different music players.
8. turned off WiFi, BT, put phone in Airplane mode.
9. altered all the sound settings I could find, surround, balance, boost, etc.
The water mark on the battery shows it got wet.
The water mark on the frame and speaker is missing.
The water mark on the motherboard is dry.
Also, I've used the iPhone for the last 5 years, so Android is new to me. BTW, except for this, I love the phone. I have thought this was a hardware problem, but before I give up I'd like to make sure this is not a software issue.
I finally resorted to the Reset, and I'm dealing with that right now. I also ordered a BT adapter so I can re-route everything through that. So I can play music in my truck.
Any advice or idea of where to go now would be welcome.
Thanks,
Kevin
I think the water indicator is your best clue that it's a hardware issue. I dunno how to test to isolate the component so you can try to fix it yourself though.
Out of curiosity, did the seller dispose that it was water damaged?

No, he did not disclose that it was water damaged. He also said that the headphones worked perfectly the last time he used it.
I find it funny that one of the screws was missing and the watermark was missing. Obviously someone had been in there and tried to fix it?
It doesn't matter, because I bought the phone and he's not going to take it back. Caveat Emptor. I didn't buy it at Best Buy, I bought it from some dude on Craigslist. I just got a $23 iKross device that will do both music and phone via a bluetooth adapter. I'm going to give up fighting it.
I thought I was going to be in the clear swapping out the headphone jack for $9. It was kind of fun taking apart the phone and checking out all the parts of it. This was kind of a forbidden activity with my iPhones, so it was interesting.
Thanks for your help, and Happy 4th of July!

Wow, that is quite impressive work....You deserve to have it work after you did all that.
It does sound like a hardware issue, but just out of curiosity, have you tried a different ROM?
Also if you have att, you could possibly do an insurance claim if it comes down to it.
I have the same prob. I took it to the Samsung repair center the guy quickly opened it , cleaned the audio jack... dint work, replaced the audio jack.. didnt work...
He mentioned sometimes connecting the jack to some other output devices like some amplifier or some sound system may have damaged the component/IC/Diode/resister/or whatever is responsible as the place where im am.. they have poor electrical earthing as the electricity standards are very poor and may have short circuited / excess electric current reached the phone and spoilt it
The solution >> Get a new motherboard !!! according to the Samsung engineer..if anyone has found a solution please share ! apart from changing a costly motherboard !

tighten all the screws!!
I had the same problem, i tried everything. Wiping, different rom, viper audio drivers...
Then i read in a comment on youtube to tighten the screws (especially the one between the camera en the led). Everything works now!
here another solution I found. I know this is a year old thread but it might help other people
I tried testing the earphone jack while the back housing is removed and while trying to figure out what causing it I found out that the ribbon is losing the connection to motherboard so I added another layer to the top of the ribbon connector to keep it in place and the sound distortion never happened again.

Check to see of it's dirty would be a place to start. All kinds of stuff can get in the connector on top of the phone. Give it a blow out with some compressed air and stick a cotton swab in there, see what happens.
I have tryed but it doesn't work. I have opened my hox now for look in side but here everything looks ok. Jack is not moving, every thing look good. My input is fine. I thing there is problem with pins inside plug. I used my phone hard, every day headphonees in, phone in pocket. I dont want send it do service
May some one have photo of working jack input and i can compare to my.
What's your ROM? I had a same problem with a sense 4+ ROM, now with cm 10.2 works fine

Z5P 3.5 mm audio jack suddenly malfunctioned. HELP.

HELP. I was using my phone to listen to music via the free ear set when all of the sudden it stopped transmitting sound through the earbuds but instead went to go to loudspeaker. It is as if there is no ear set attached to the jack anymore. I thought my ear set was the one malfunctioning so I tried connecting my spare ear set but still yields the same problem. It is as if the jack became loose all of a sudden. I didn't recall dropping my phone or accidentally pulling the ear set wires while still attached to the jack that may perhaps damaged it. One thing I observed is that I can the make the music transmit to the ear set if I press the pin to the 3.5 mm jack really really hard but will immediately stop working again the moment I lift my finger thus going to loudspeaker again. Obviously, I cannot be doing the whole pressing thing everytime I want to listen to music cause its plain ridiculous just imagining that. The jack is literally rendered useless now. HELP !!! What should I do? Is this considered hardware problem already cause it seems like it? I just bought my unit December 1 last year so its considerably new. I already tried doing the SONY PC companion software repair just to be sure but still to no avail. Does anyone here experinced the same thing or is it just me.
HELP. As much as possible I dont want to leave my phone to service center as it takes them too long to repair it (2 weeks) and I have no spare phone to use.
THANKS in advance!!!
Send it to be repaired...

Same thing happened to my Z5P today... Read various forums and tried lots of "solved" issues but couldn't get it to work...
Will try and reset the phone after work today to see if it's a software issue, otherwise it will be sent to repaired...
Anyone else had the same problem?
Mine did that too, but i think it was only the headphones. Because it did work with other headphones and has been working fine
found a solution on sony forums..got mine working
Here what I did to get it working again:
Go to Settings > Apps > ALL > Smart Connect. and clear it's data.
Go to Play Store and install SoundAbout.
Open SoundAbout app and go to Media Audio and select your headset type in my case I selected [Wired Headset (with Mic)]
Plug-in your headset and the device should detect it now! wink
This is concerning to hear. Can anyone update to see if @wilger_18 's solution works?
this work around is annoying, You have to toggle ON OFF button if u want your phone to think if its going into loudspeaker or going into headseat more. Will wait for Marshmallow update if this will fix cause if its not then ill probably send it for repair.

Exactly same problem with my z5 premium , it works with soundabout but device doesn't detect the headset for itself, it is logical for a software issue and not hardware. Please let me know if u get a solution
Thanks a lot
Same issue here
Need to push the headphone very hard to make it be connected. I wonder if this is a hardware issue or just a software. Since I tried @wilger_18's workaround but it did not work on my end. I also reflashed the firmware with Flashtool and PCC but no luck...
Had this problem. For me it was hardware defect. Took it to my carrier shop. They confirmed the problem, took it to be serviced. One week later got my phone back. Replaced headphone jack and outer frame.
Works as should now. Hopefully it doesn't fail again. Disappointed that a $900+ device has a fault like this.

here didn't work out ... my headset (that came with the device) is not being recognized, I think i'll have to bring the assistance for a cleaning in connector.

Mine no longer works either. This is the first time a Sony phone I owned has malfunctioned and I started with W810. In US, with Taiwan device. Emailed Sony Taiwan to see if I can get it repaired. Of course, Sony US can't work on a foreign phone. Comical, they all have the same headphone jack.
UPDATE: Sony Taiwan doesn't offer international shipping for repairs so I have two options, fly to Taiwan or live with it. Looks like it will be the latter. Back in the box to collect dust.

I noticed that in his box z5p not appear headphones. This means they have disabled headjack to promote bluetooth headphones. So it's a software limitation.

Not all Z5P's came with headphones. Mine didn't so I alternate between my Sennheiser's and my Jays. The noise cancelling headphones I got with my Z2 are sound somewhere... and they work.
