Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...llcy5icmlnaHRlc3RmbGFzaGxpZ2h0LmZyZWUiXQ..and see if you can toggle it on and off( maybe hardware problem) Install another rom if it does it on that rom it will be a hardware problem.
It works for the moment! Is not rom problem.
Do you know some trick or something to disable forever camera's flash? I don have problems with the light, but the phone is really hot in the flash area!

I'm thinking to destroy led, but maybe destroy something with this too, the problem was stoped for the moment, but not sure if permanent

When i place a call and put the phone to my ear and then pull back away the screen does not "wake". It stays de-activated, no matter what i do. Eventually the only thing to do is to hold the power button down long enough for the phone to reboot.
Stock ROM, no root.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
WTF
I tested by laying the phone flat on a surface, placed a call, and then put my hand over the proximity sensor. The screen turned black as it should. When I removed my hand it did not come back on. Again, the only solution is to reboot the phone. So, the proximity sensor is not working correctly. Is this a known issue and is there a way to fix?
BUMP!
I'm in the self test module and am running the "sensors" test. I'm not sure when this ends if it ends at all or what values that proximity sensor field should have.
Anybody? Bueller?
Apparently Q&A isn't the place to post this? This is dissapointing coming from the E4GT forums which were super responsive.
Cool yer jets. It's only been a few hours. What ROM? Rooted? Any other mods that might affect it?

LOL
I said no root stock ROM
Anyway, I turned off the proximity sensor, verified that it was off, then turned it back on. It works now. Bizarre.
Sorry to get pissy.

NOT FIXED
So after a reboot the proximity sensor does not work on calls again. I turned it off and then back on and still no luck. I didn't actually make a call, but obviously I shouldn't have to do this every time i reboot the phone, so clearly there is an issue. It appears to be software since I got it to work once.
Any ideas? Thanks.

After insalling a new screen my phone acted the same. I opened it up again and found a tiny piece of plastic form the old screen inside the proximity sensor hole.
I know your problem is not this, just wanted to share

hmmm interesting. I think this is likely a software issue on mine. it would be dumb to have to return it since i'm confident there's a way to fix it.

That solution wasn't very good aha, what I would suggest you root your phone without tripping the flash counter and install a custom rom to see if the issue still exists, if yes you should return the phone.

thanks well it's brand new and it may be hardware related so i'd rather just get a fresh device then sweat dealing with root yet. this is why i waited to root it. I appreciate your effort though .

Plus I don't think just rooting it is a sound fix strategy.
Nobody has anything on this huh?
BTW, Wirefly sucks...
Have you already done a master reset?

My NFC keeps turning off on it's own. Is this a security feature? It's really annoying to keep turning it back on.

It's all stock firmware rooted. I did trip the flash counter but I recently discovered Triangle Away so maybe that will solve my issues. Haven't had it turn off on me yet. Sometimes it'll turn off on reboot but sometimes it'll just be off over night.
Model SGH-T889
Android 4.1.1
Baseband T889UVALJ1
Kernel Version 3.0.31-260018
UPDATE:
Still does it. Really annoying. It does it while the phone is on. I don't need to reboot for this to happen.
Here's a thought, does anyone have the Samsung Flip cover? I know there is a bridge for the NFC radio. Maybe that is related...
Yep, having the same problem. Turn on NFC and an hour later try to use it and it is off. Galaxy Note 2.
What is going on?
Jz
well just posting to say iI have the same problem, haven't found a solution yet. Basically makes using NFC tags worthless because you have to turn it on every time you want to use it.
Hi all. I just wondered if anyone could help me out with this problem i'm having.
When on the lock screen you can usually just pull the ring on to the camera in case you need to make a quick snap shot. But after the Jelly Bean update, every time I try use it, it freezes for around 5-6 seconds rendering the shortcut useless I suppose. Only happens with the camera app and nothing else for some reason.
Anyone have any ideas of what could solve this? Such a small problem but it's a really annoying one.
Cheers.
Did you make an hard reset when you upgrated to Jelly?
There is to say that the problem there is also in custom rom...
So, it may be an htc issue rom

I haven't done a hard reset because of fear of just losing everything... not very good with all this stuff, usually just find a quick or easy fix for things.
When it comes to going a bit deeper to trying to fix something i'm lost.
Goes without saying I haven't rooted my phone or anything, so there wouldn't be any problems it that area.
Any thought's on how else I could fix this, pal? thanks.
I don't know how to fix, so i usually don't use the camera so i don't have this on shortcuts...
I also have the same issue

Hello everybody,

and put the phone against her ear the screen does not turning off the buttons are been pressed
by her cheek, this causes a lot of embarrassment when the call is disconnected in the middle of an important call,
most of the time the button just pressed and the other side just hearing an annoying tone.
this is annoying and i don't know how to help her with that.
is there any good solution for this problem?
i tried to look for this problem in the search engine of this forum
and all i found was the same problem but in HTC phone that runs Windows Mobile, that didn't helping me...
thanks for anyone who can help me with that...
Try rebooting/resetting.
If problem persists then the proximity sensor may be faulty. Take it to Sony, coz it's a hardware problem.

Perhaps her phone is dirty, so the sensor won't work.. You know women, they don't care about technology.
Clean the screen left next to the Sony logo real good
My first opinion is hardware issue. It can be said that the proximity sensor is faulty. My second one is software. maybe she install a program that uses or control the proxomity switch that causes it to malfunction having a conflict with other programs. My third is that, as early as possible if its hardware issue, go now to sony service center for them to figure it out, use your warranty card, that may cause no additional problem right? Smile!
You could try re flash the firmware with flashtool

i think that maybe it is an hardware issue,
she don't installing any application just by her self, and she don't have many apps.
i know almost every app on her phone (cause i have them also on my SGS4) and i don't think that the apps are the problem.
but i will look for an app problem anyway just to be sure before using the warranty.
thank you guys...
UPDATE:
i've checked the phone sensor with the new app cpu-z and the app shows that the sensor is working and identifying my hand
when i covering it.
but still there is the problem that the screen does not turn off when she's holding the phone against her ear,
i've watched while she's talking in the phone and she's holding it as it should be.
but as i see the problem is not happening in every phone call but it is happening a lot.
any idea how to solve this problem?
I have noticed that my Gyro and Compass are Not Responding to movement of the phone, and I am wondering if its a driver issue or a hardware one. Can any of you boffins give me some advice on how I may resolve this please ?

Download "Z-Device Test" from the play store, there you can find out if it's hardware related or not. I also would like to know what Rom/Kernel/Recovery combination you have, or is everything stock?
Well, I'll be honest and admit that I never ever seen a compass in my note 2, though I'm sure I seen it in the original note. If anyone could point me to it, I'd appreciate it. I did look in apps but not there.

Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded it, and it would suggest that the sensor IS working ok, but the phone is not recognising it for some reason. Would the kernel be a reason ? This is driving me nuts...

Hmm, are you on stock Rom? If so you can calibrate gsensor under settings - display (i think)...
Or you can try this if you are rooted
Or get this app and if I'm not mistaken it lets you calibrate the g-sensor.
Hope this helps
