[Q] Gyro and Compass Not Responding Hardware ?? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have noticed that my Gyro and Compass are Not Responding to movement of the phone, and I am wondering if its a driver issue or a hardware one. Can any of you boffins give me some advice on how I may resolve this please ?

Download "Z-Device Test" from the play store, there you can find out if it's hardware related or not. I also would like to know what Rom/Kernel/Recovery combination you have, or is everything stock?

Well, I'll be honest and admit that I never ever seen a compass in my note 2, though I'm sure I seen it in the original note. If anyone could point me to it, I'd appreciate it. I did look in apps but not there.

Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded it, and it would suggest that the sensor IS working ok, but the phone is not recognising it for some reason. Would the kernel be a reason ? This is driving me nuts...

Hmm, are you on stock Rom? If so you can calibrate gsensor under settings - display (i think)...
Or you can try this if you are rooted
Or get this app and if I'm not mistaken it lets you calibrate the g-sensor.
Hope this helps

Hi there, I had the same problem and I couldn't find any way to calibrate it system wide and yes it is HW problem.

accelerometer gyroscope problem

after i reset to factory settings i cant rotate and play and games that require accelerometer or gyroscope anyone know how to fix this problem or i have to return my device?
Pain in the Ass
Hello friend,
I've been facing the same problem. I gave it back to my vendor who "did something" and twas working again! before I gave it to him, I was pretty sure twas a Hardware problem, bcoz running the g-sensor test in *#*#3424#*#* wasnt responding. the g-sensor wasnt calibrating and an app called AndroSensor wasnt receiving values from the accelerometer.
And now the same problem has returned. I'm hunting online for a solution myself.

I had the same problem, booting into Safe Mode and then booting back to normal solved my problem, you should try that.
Btw you can boot in Safe mode with holding volume down while doing normal restart.
Hope that helps
same probelm
hi there
i've the same problem , i've updated the Hboot to 1.31 and then i flashed JB insert coin version , but still i've the same issue , any idea how to solve it ?? this is driving me crazy
It's first sympthom of dead CPU on OneX. Next will be freeze phone and rebooting when CPU is hot. It's Tegra 3 standard problem.

[Q] Compass off by 90 degrees

I've noticed on my new S3 that the compass is sometimes off by 90 degrees. Then, if I close the map app and open it later, the compass is accurate.
This this a known issue?
Thanks!
Not sure about this issue but I know there is a way to calibrate the phone somewhere in the settings. Not sure if it will help or is even related but might as well give it a try.

I didn't find a compass calibration, although I recall seeing a gyroscope calibration setting hidden somewhere (I'll have to find it again). Would that help at all?
I tried a compass calibration using the GPS Status app, but it didn't seem to help. It's strange. Tried it again on my way into work and it got some of the directions right, but wrong on others. It also seems to improve over time. I almost wondered if it didn't have a magnetic compass and was just using gps signals to guess at your direction. As far as I can tell, there is a real compass in there, although I suppose I can't be sure Samsung is actually using it.
Same problem here...
I'm having the same problem here on all my devices, so i'm thinking it is more likely a bug in android than a hardware issue.
Calibrating the compass with GPS Status (on the play store, can*t post a link yet) helps but never for long... quit google maps or navigation, and on next use I have to calibrate again.
I just verified this one someone else's S5, same there.
Another interesting detail:
I used to have the same issue on my Samsung S3, but with CM on it all is well now... so it really seems to be a software thing.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Free mobile app
interesting: there's a two year old bug entry about this on google: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37771
...it has been closed as "obsolete".
nice going there.

[Q] G sensor issue, slowly drifting to the side

Hi everyone !
I have an issue on my One X when I'm using the g sensor. For instance, if I use it to take a photosphere, the points start to slowly drift to the side.
I'm on CM11 M7 but i've had the issue for a long time even on CM10.
What's happening ?
I rebooted while pressing volume up and it seemed to work. I managed to make a small photoshpere. I tried to make another one and the g sensor was acting weird again.
No idea ?

have you tried to calibrate your g-sensor?
Yes, I've used GPS status and advanced tools that both have a calibration functionality. That didn't work.
Maybe there is another way of doing it that I'm not aware of.

This technique seems to apply to phones which don't have a working sensor at all. But I've tried it anyway. And it doesn't work.

have you tried a sense rom?
I have the same issue on my HTC One S ville running CM11. I was thinking about downgrading to CM10 but that doesn't seem to fix it as you say.
I would really like photosphere to work correctly. Does anybody else have this problem (running stock rom), any fixes?

[Q] Auto-Rotating and Proximity sensor are not working

my device is LG-G3-D855.
after upgrading the software to android 5.0 from LG PC Suit, and after a day passed, I noticed that my auto-rotation is not working, and the proximity sensor is not responding during a call and the screen remains active.
I tested the sensors through hidden menu and saw that they are actually working and they are not stocked.
what is the solution? is it a software problem?
I also did downgrade the OS to the stock one and the problem still remains.
I'm sorry I am not able to help, but I am able to tell you I came to the forums today to post the exact same issue.
I had been using Liquid and CM12 for a while and my proximity sensors and brightness sensors (as well as screen turning off when I bring phone to my ear) were not working. I simply assumed it was an AOSP problem.
I just recently flashed the new stock lollipop rom that's on the development forum and I am having the same problem still. I do not know how to fix it and I'm hoping someone out there can help us!
edit: everytime I try to recalibrate the proximity sensor in settings, settings 'unexpectantly closes'

Dang, same thing on my end. I've tried several different Roms/Kernels and still nothing. If I find a solution, I'll be sure to let you know!
Bump
Im having this issue as well. Anyone?
I've just resolved the same issue. No matter ROM I flashed to my LG G3 all the sensors were gone. The only thing it fixed that was flashing TOT using lg flash. More details on : htt ps: //forum.xda-developers. com/showthread .php?t= 2785089
ADD: The updated method worked for me NOT the original one.
Fingers crossed.
