I have been considering upgrading from vibrant to GS2, but since I so much enjoy my music on voodoo sound plus powerAmp setup in Vibrant, will it be a let down on GS2 because of inferior DAC? Those who switched from original galaxy s please comment.

Stock music app has an option for 5.1 surround sound which is very good. also i believe the sound card is yamaha brand.

simple....are you an audiophile? I mean a true one. If the answer is yes, then you'll likely be let down because the Yamaha chip isn't as good as the Wolfson according to Supercurio. If the answer is no, then you'll likely not notice the difference
When I had my vibrant, my flac albums sounded absolutely luscious, and I don't get quite the same impression with the sgs2, even before I found out about the yamaha dac. However I left my vibrant like a year ago so this is hardly valid.. I think may have had supercurios sound fix on it too.

Thanks for the replies. I won't call myself an audiophile, but once i had voodoo on, the sound from Poweramp with equalizer tweaked to my liking is very pleasing. I hope SG2 can provide at least 80% of the fidelity.
One more question. Any issues with A2DP streaming to Bluetooth headphones? Vibrant has lower quality over A2DP in spite of having BT 3.0

Dont know about A2DP... but the best bet to answer your question is Supercurio. Hit him up on twitter he'll likely reply. Also if its straight up streaming to bluetooth head phones it completely bypasses the DAC see the following tweet
http://twitter.com/#!/supercurio/status/169484560827027456
Also.. Supercurio isn't able to pull off anything like voodoo sound on the yamaha DAC.. He did do something for the international/at&t version called Voodoo Louder which i believe only boost the output volume of the headphone jack. I don't know if its coming to our SGS2, but I would say its not likely

Don't worry. As far as implemented functionality from Samsung and Android, they should be similar and infact I believe the loudspeaker amplifier seems more powerful in the new chipset (I am inferring through SGS3 specs as I believe its the same for Note 2). More importantly, it should be WAY superior to SGS2 and Note 1 as I find them absolutely useless with my powered headphones.

EDIT:
Wolfson Micro WM1811 http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/audio_hubs/WM1811/
100dB SNR Class W Heapdhone amp output, ReTune DSP, 3x digital interface.
Like WM8994 in Galaxy S / Nexus S, except:
1x stereo DAC instead of 2x.
2x 2W Speaker amp instead of 2x 1W
Smaller and probably cheaper, same sound quality expected.

Yup, thats what I meant. Thanks for getting the numbers. Unfortunately the stereo speaker output may not help as I believe Note 2 may have a mono speaker like the rest, pity!
Supercurio - Eagerly awaiting an update on this. Hope its coming soon as you tweeted.
People do overestimate the difference in sound quality between the sgs and other phones.
Yes, the chip in the sgs really shines with voodoo sound's amazing mechanics, but this isn't something you'll hear or can take advantage of with stock earbuds, dre or skullcandy headsets. You need at least an entry level hi fi setup or a decent set of headphones. Until you get to that point, you might as well just be using an eq.
I'm not trying to be condescending, but I think many people use a turbo and stuff it into their vw beetle and expect to go 300 kmh
Just ordered a note 2, and will be looking forward to test it beside my sgs!

I have an sgs as well as the note2 now....
I own sony extra bass earphones they sound really awesome in the samsung galaxy S , just a little less in the Note2 but all the difference I see is of the bass ..the galaxy s pumps those beats quite well unlike the note2
And just fyi just throw the stock samsung earphones in the dustbin..they are worst like made in china nit china is to blame but its cheapass ! ( Sony made in Philippines)

The chip in the SGS really did shine with a bit of Voodoo:
Youtube: watch?v=-c5XOTP77qs
It's really rare for a smartphone to be able to record in extreme environments like that. The Nokia Lumia 920 is another phone with similar capabilities, here's a comparison of that one with the HTC 8x at the same event:
Youtube: watch?v=svM5g_9539Y
Phones in general get the result of the HTC, including the SGS without the Voodoo fix. I Haven't really tried the new gen Samsung's in a location like this, but I know that the SGS3 sounds basically like the HTC above, because the microphone doesn't enable recording for loud environments in the software.
Sure, recording in loud environments isn't something you normally do, but, it's still nice to have the ability to do it.
Sorry for the "broken" youtube links, apparently I'm not old enough to post links...
So we now technically have voodoo for the note2 right? Since scoobydoo is basically voodoo?

Awesome! Now we finally have voodoo like sound on our Note 2.
Couple of things missing in Siyah's implementation:
1. No volume slider hack so to keep digital volume max and tweaking analog one needs to be done through Stweaks app and the change happens after we change and hit "Apply" against realtime hack in voodoo sound app. This means, dynamic range is low in lower volume and noise floor high. Also means we wont get extended volume levels (0-63) instead of only 15 levels in default digital volume slider
2. No video recording DRC hack as in voodoo sound app (haven't tested, may be hidden but atleast no tweaking of DRC possible)
I prefer using voodoo sound app which is not yet detecting these kernels to be compatible with it to enjoy the above features.
Also I prefer the below kernel for this for CPU and GPU overclocking options in Stweaks app:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852
Hope Supercurio adds support for these kernels atleast in his paid app.
so.......
I'm a n00b with all this, so can someone boil it down to a yes/no: Voodoo for Note 2? Sound quality on par with Galaxy 1?
I have Westones, not the usual earbuds, and the S1 is literally the best FLAC player I've ever owned. It's certainly a bit long in the tooth at this point, however, so I'm interested in upgrading but not willing to give up the Wolfson + Voodoo. I'm in the states, but I've got no problem buying an unlocked model from elsewhere if necessary.
Edit: Forgot to mention I'm tied to USCC (job pays for phone), not sure if that matters

This is a question which im dying to know the answer too lol.
The galaxy vibant had a wolfson DAC. That thing could output some serious power with some kernal tweaks.
Can we do anything with this junk? (intl gs3 also has a wolfson -- dammit tmobile (we dont))

Just use Volume+ (Sound Boost) from the play store. Its the best purchase ive ever made. Using it now to listen to pandora with some serious sony headphones. Sounds amazing. Also, i havent found a stereo system which could handle all the boosted power. Its really night and day

Is that a dsp? Because I already use dsp manager for equalizing and I dont want to give it up
If I'm not mistaken there is a file or maybe a couple that you can edit to adjust your output. I think I may have seen something about it in the international forum. If I find it again ill post, but I'm sure its out there if you want to look. I just wish I coukd remember which file.

Ive searched around and ive seen a few issues with the Eq Either not working or Making it worse...
Now After going Extreme OCD mode...and wanting to throw this s4 at the wall... What would be a idealistic Rom for a Audiophile?... Along with all the extra goodies? I dont have the greatest earphones in the world But My beats Solo Hds didnt sound anywhere close to what they did on my old S2...

There see module files that don't have the proper necessary coding. I'm trying to figure something out. I understand your pain, I have sennheiser ie8s and they sound crappy compared to my tablet. Viper4 android is supposed to be really good, but personally volume+ sound boost (version 1.8) from the market was and still is my choice for audio improvement.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
It's a shame that Samsung elected to not include the Wolfson DAC in the Snapdragon-based S4 models, and it seems we'll always be limited by that. I use Player Pro with DSP Pack, which gives a full 10-band EQ. This helps for carefully boosting the low-end on my Etymotic in-ears, which is their main drawback.
I need suggestions for the best audio experience on the Nexus 7. Apps, tweaks..
Quality headphones will do much more for you than some random arbitrary tweak or app
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Download poweramp from the play store. My advice is go blow 100+ on some nice bose headphones. Bose also makes a amazing portable speaker that will make your n7 tunes shine.

If viper audio works on the N7 (I currently only use it on my S4) then that will do wonders for you.
prshosting.org
+1 on viper audio. flash and use some nice IRQ .
ViPER4Android is working great for me but unfortunately only with stock Google music player. The effects are very nice but maximum volume is still very lacking even with +6.0dB Gain compared to my iPhone 4 which has far better audio quality and way higher volume.
Faux Sound, perhaps, if you are rooted, with a rom that supports it.
Beats+xlouder! 4.4
I currently use Misledz BEATS+XLOUDER! 4.4 and a pair of beats Mixr's and the sound is amazing! I have tried Viper and it was also very good I just am a long time BEATS+XLOUDER! 4.4 user. I picked up my beats for $50 on ebay and while a lot of people don't care for them the mixr's are amazing. You can also pick up a pair of Audio Technica ath-M-50's used on ebay for the same price or about a $100 brand new great headphones. Read some reviews you won't be disappointed.

No still on 4.4 I didn't see anything significant in 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 to upgrade not to mention the fact that half my apps didn't work with the updates. I usually wait a little while to let everyone catch up. You are right though I should have mentioned it only works on 4.4. Does Viper work on 4.4.2? Best thing to do is try all of them out there is also Cyanogenmod DSP manager. Just know anything you try on XDA is a step up and the hard work of individuals and teams who make our devices great.
