How is the music quality compared to the fassy. I know it had a top quality headphone amp (for a phone). Can the incredible 2 compare?

I know this annoying that the first response doesn't know the answer (although I would love to hear some opinions - I'll miss Voodoo Sound, unless there is an HTC equivalent)
Anybody former Fascinate owners want to give a quick rundown of what to expect? I just started researching and reading, but still not quite sure I get the rooting process on HTC and why 2.3.3 cannot be rooted....I'm not even sure if I have that part right.
I think I can answer that question. Gingerbread added some security patches and fixed the hole which was used to root the phone.
The droid x is the same way now. Originally it could be rooted but now no longer.
It's likely someone will develop a method though it may take some time. You can always try the hardware method xrc Inc I think.
I just ordered my replacement today and have been doing some reading haha...

To answer your question...
NO, you can't really compare the Inc2 to the Fascinate, the loudspeaker in the inc2 sucks big time, is not good, the music app is great and i think is better than the fascinate, but as far as the hardware speaker, no, is not as good.
I don't think he was referring to just the hardware speaker, I think he meant the audio output in general, but especially when using headphones. Not having ever used a fascinate I can't compare, but I'd recommend trying DSPmanager to tweak the EQ and audio settings.
The stock inc2 sounds decent. Nothing compared to voodoo sound. Nothing. But its not to bad once you get used to it.

Thanks bob. I was afraid of that. I'll still probably switch but there are definitely things ill miss about my fassy.

If you are using headphones and are using HTC's default music player with SRS support turned on, it sounds amazing. As others have said, the speaker sucks big time. I have the ringer volume turned all the way up and still miss about half of the notifications. I had a D1 before this, and the speaker on that thing was incredible (no pun intended), and the Inc2 is sad in comparison. Can't compare to the fascinate, but I'd have to imagine just about anything short of a cup and wire would be better.
Has anyone given this a shot on our devices?
I am going to try but just haven't had the chance yet

Wow, from the screenshots that looks quite terrible. It looks like it colors the sound way too much and just adds noise and volume to the lower 60hz of the spectrum through artificial means. I guess that means I will stay away from this like the plague.
....why must all my hobbies be so expensive!?! (read: audio, Phone ROMing, computers, MTB )

No sure.
From a galaxy better than yours.
Just flashed this and I gotta say WOW oh WOW. It freaking sounds awesome. Makes my Skull Candy 50/50 headphones sound even better! Thanks a million!

Does anyone have any idea what this does? The "What is Beats Audio" explains absolutely nothing.

I hear you -- I am looking to replace my Grados soon and possibly get a headphone amplifier.. :\
I just flashed this, and was skeptic, but must say, you can definitely tell the difference. Sound quality is amazing, and I'm using the stock Samsung earbuds that came with my phone.

Bravia I knew was stupid. I would've thought the decent Samsung sound quality would deter people from using Beats since it's essentially an equalizer that sounds too artificial for me.
There was too much blind emphasis of Beats over on any HTC dual core devices and I hope most of the devs stay away from this.
Plus this:

Audio is something special.
When you say there is an improvement, people tend to listen closer and perceive something different even if it doesn't exist.
That's called placebo.
All I'm asking is intellectual honesty in order to not abuse of this many times proven fact.
I also think placebo-mods are affecting negatively everyone's work and also the confidence XDA users have in developers.
The solution is simple: It improves audio? That can be measured then!
If you can't measure it, it means it does nothing.
Me, I measured, Galaxy S II. found it wasn't working. It's not an opinion or a critic. It's a fact.

Terrible
Just flashed. Terrible Performance. Sounds Awful. TO ME. JUST MY OPINION.
I like music, and the extra bass with the boosted mid-range is awful, you can't hear some of the good parts of songs at all.
Re-flashing my ROM now, good thing I did an nandroid.

Dunno why people think beats is anything.........they make horrible headphones and even worse software. It's a gimmick for the most part. The hardware inside our phones for audio is made by Yamaha and they know whats up with sound. Get some better cans & poweramp to unlock the real audio power of our device.
Some bad news for those using various Beats headphones.
In the 1.26 version there were profiles for a number of Beats headsets including the pros.
In 1.28 they have removed some of these profiles. The only ones remaining are urBeats and Solo.

Make sure you contact HTC support and let them know you are upset.
I have contacted HTC support and awaiting a reply.
Apparently the XE had profiles too? But only for urBeats and Solo. Then they bring out the One X that has extra profiles, and then remove them again in an update....very odd indeed.
UK support have been useless. This was my second attempt at getting some sort of proper response on this from them
"I can confirm the latest software update version 1.28.401.9 has indeed removed the Beats headset profile for the Pro headset. The removal of this profile was intentional from the media player, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this may cause you."
No indication as to why....it makes no sense! Can others please try logging this if it matters to them

Interesting possibility. They have simplified the code so its like the Sensation XE version. Not happy though....just got to hope they bring back the other options at some point....

They just need to get rid of that beats crap all together. The One X has some of worst audio quality compared to other high end devices released over the last couple years.

Is all down to opinion mate, if you want good quality music, buy an mp3 player.
Beats for me makes a real difference to the experience.
I would suggest the majority of people are not going to connect their phone to all sorts of audio equipment to test the quality of the audio, like gsm arena.
A smart phone is made to do multiple things,it is not going to be perfect in everything it does.
I'm no audiophile by any means so it's good enough for me. Like I said,it's down to opinions.

Absolutely! The phone is still rather good at being a 'one device for everything', and I don't think my hearing is sensitive enough to notice much apart from volume!
If people really miss them, can the extra profiles not be extracted and cooked into a ROM?
Has anybody sussed out what the problems with those profiles were? (Or is it just a licensing issue?)
If you get a decent pair of headphones the audio is good and works well with audio beats. It is a shame about pro beats as it sounded amazing with my a Jay headphones. Urbeats isn't to bad.
Maybe they did it because they realised how good probeats sounded without even having to use audio beats headphones.

There wern't any problems with the profiles. I think they have retreated to an older code line. The profiles of Solo, urBeats and Other are present apparently on a Sensation XE. The One X was the first to add in extra profiles, but they had problems with stuttering audio in 1.26. I think they cured this by using an old but proven codepath. The question is, are they going to bring the profiles back. As they own 51% in Beats I am sure there isn't any licensing issue.
However, if someone still on 1.26 can pull out the relevant codelines, that could be very useful indeed!

What's all the different profiles for exactly and do they make a difference?
I'm just happy with the HTC stock headphones and the standard music player on my HOX but I'm hardly an Audiophile.

Just use Volume+ (Sound Boost) from the play store. Its the best purchase ive ever made. Using it now to listen to pandora with some serious sony headphones. Sounds amazing. Also, i havent found a stereo system which could handle all the boosted power. Its really night and day

Is that a dsp? Because I already use dsp manager for equalizing and I dont want to give it up
If I'm not mistaken there is a file or maybe a couple that you can edit to adjust your output. I think I may have seen something about it in the international forum. If I find it again ill post, but I'm sure its out there if you want to look. I just wish I coukd remember which file.

Quality headphones will do much more for you than some random arbitrary tweak or app

If viper audio works on the N7 (I currently only use it on my S4) then that will do wonders for you.

+1 on viper audio. flash and use some nice IRQ .
ViPER4Android is working great for me but unfortunately only with stock Google music player. The effects are very nice but maximum volume is still very lacking even with +6.0dB Gain compared to my iPhone 4 which has far better audio quality and way higher volume.
Faux Sound, perhaps, if you are rooted, with a rom that supports it.
Beats+xlouder! 4.4
I currently use Misledz BEATS+XLOUDER! 4.4 and a pair of beats Mixr's and the sound is amazing! I have tried Viper and it was also very good I just am a long time BEATS+XLOUDER! 4.4 user. I picked up my beats for $50 on ebay and while a lot of people don't care for them the mixr's are amazing. You can also pick up a pair of Audio Technica ath-M-50's used on ebay for the same price or about a $100 brand new great headphones. Read some reviews you won't be disappointed.

No still on 4.4 I didn't see anything significant in 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 to upgrade not to mention the fact that half my apps didn't work with the updates. I usually wait a little while to let everyone catch up. You are right though I should have mentioned it only works on 4.4. Does Viper work on 4.4.2? Best thing to do is try all of them out there is also Cyanogenmod DSP manager. Just know anything you try on XDA is a step up and the hard work of individuals and teams who make our devices great.
