I personally had a lot of sync issues with Carbon. I switched to Liquid the other day and have really enjoyed it. I did not try the release yesterday by Carbon.
To be 100% honest, though, Team Carbon are former members of Team Liquid and the ROMs are near identical. If you try them both, it's basically the exact same layout and everything except it says " Carbon Controls" in the menu instead of " Liquid Controls".
Try then both though. It's the wonderful fallback of a Nandroid

I actually switched about 20 minutes ago to carbon just to give it a whirl and see what is different. Aside from liquid using nova launcher, there really isn't a noticeable difference.
Carbon doesn't have any issues with lockscreen like liquid does though and that's huge for me so I think I'm gonna roll carbon for a while

This thread is not meant to be disrespectful. And if there is trash talking and inappropriate comments i would shut then thread down myself. In no way do i want the hard work that devs do for us for free to be trash talked. With that being said personally I think people are being a little too sensitive.
This thread is to discuss the only two 4.2.2 ROMs we have right now in a civil manner. I'm not asking for people to say one sucks and the other one is awesome. Just friendly mature conversation

I've tried liquid before it went RC and had a few small issues with call quality. Tried different kernel but still there. Switched to carbon and all is well. Always do full wipes before flashing and actually tried several installs on liquids. I'm really having a great time on carbon. Great ROM
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I flashed both the latest versions and there are some differences. Carbon doesn't have DPI options whole LS does. LS does have the option to decrease the size of the quick tiles. There are other minor differences as well such as placement of options within the settings menu. Under the hood, I think I read LS sticks more to CM10 coding.
In terms of performance, I can not tell the difference. Both are extremely fast. Both are extremely lightweight. You really can't go wrong with either.
What I think I'm going to do is go back and forth. I'll run the latest release of each rom and wait until who ever releases first. The devs of these rooms are unbelievably talented. Don't stick to just one rom. Go back and forth and support these devs.
I'm running LS at the moment and who ever pumps out the next build, I'm going to flash it. Really can't go wrong with either. My reason for using LS at the moment is because the DPI feature. I like having chrome and Gmail in tablet mode. But I'm sure carbon will put this feature in the next build or so. In my opinion, these are the best roms out there for the GS3. Really 1A and 1B.

I ran the liquid smooth RC... 9 I think it was? it was on 4.1.2 but never gave their 4.2.2 ROM a try before it went RC, but I had a lot of little issues with it being buggy and they just started to get to me. I eventually swapped back to cm 10 because it was more stable for my own personal experiences with it.
As for carbon, I didn't flash the first release because I wanted to watch the boards and see what issues people were having with it, but I've been on carbon since 1.1 and I really like it. It doesn't seem quite as buggy as liquid smooth did. The only exception I have to that, is the most recent release (1.4) was consistently giving me issues with regards to display timeout. It would timeout after 15 seconds (I like a short timeout) and the screen would go black, without the CRT off animation, and then it would just freeze with a faint horizontal line through the middle and the hardware buttons would still be illuminated. I could not unlock the screen or get it to turn back on, and had to pull the battery out and reboot my phone every time. I tried reflashing several times, and I continue to get the same issue so I flashed back to 1.3. No issues on this version, it runs solid.

I'm loving Starburst and glad I finally budged out of my curmudgeonly ways off of stock as I wait for CM. It's very full featured and allows tweaking without turning into a theme-fest. I was very surprised with it.
Though I am also preparing my phone to try out some other ROMs today....I'm a big fan of Calkulins work so I'm pretty eager to try that out.
Calkulin FTW
Although to be fair I haven't tried starburst yet. Didnt boot when I tried it but it was my first attempt at a custom ROM on this phone so I am sure I did something wrong

To be honest, and maybe this means I'm a ****, but when I read about people having all kinds of problems with a rom or a kernel or a mod or anything my first thought is automatically "they probably fncked something up."
A vast majority of the times this is, in fact, the problem. I'm on my 8th? 9th? Android device. I hack 'em up to pieces. I try to be a good boy and read everything thoroughly...but I don't. I skim for the important bits. If I screw something up it's usually pretty obvious, then I fix it, then it works. I have never actually had a ROM that has destroyed my battery life (I have with experimental kernels, but, to be expected), I have never lost 3G function, I have never gotten unfixable bootloops, I have never killed my wifi or 4G to where a full wipe and reflash didn't bring it back...never. For years now I have been hearing some wild problems from people and never actually experienced any of them for myself in a way that wasn't fixable, by myself.
I have gotten better battery life, faster internet, working youtube, faster wifi (the 'wifi n' mod on Evo4G), etc etc etc.
I don't know, I'm always skeptical of people claiming a rom or kernel are screwing things up when there are other people with no problems at all.
Alpha and Beta roms notwithstanding, lol
viper for some reason not on here..
but anyway, my vote is for viper. Need to try Calkulin more though

This phone shines out of the box. There is no need to worry about losing your imei anymore. So you can root and flash normally now. My opinion. Cm is losing its flavor. All the features of touch wiz are amazing and not really worth losing.

I use to never flash anything besides cyanogen mod. Ever since the g1 days. I had the Htc one S and gave sense a chance for the first time and altho I never felt quite comfortable I found it pretty nice and less bloated than previous builds. I then upgraded to this beast (sgs3) and I absolutely love touchwiz. I don't see me flashing cm until most bugs are sorted out and if they add a better camera, and the touchwiz motion shortcuts which I find myself using more than I thought.
I don't see what people don't like about touchwiz. It's clean and simple which is what made me fall in love with cm. I'm sure cm probably is less bloated under the hood but I'm not ready to part with touchwiz. I'll wait for cm10 stable.

I think theyre both smooth and both stable. The only real differences are some options in settings menu (for my user end experience, im sure under the hood there are more differences). You have to try em and see which u like more.
"vs" threads are not allowed on XDA. they are unnecessary and mostly bias opinions that don't really get anyone anywhere. you just need to take the few minutes to make a nandroid backup and try them yourself. its all personal opinion. and if you're using your device, it's your personal opinion that counts dude. this thread will surely be closed soon.

Of ones you listed I like AOKP best. Its just clean. IT feels polished.... Deff a possible daily driver if you don't mind bluetooth problems (which might be fixed by now anyway) point is its a good rom. However the one you didn't list in my title is JELLYBAM
Which I use and love. Its not as polished its a mix of 3 sorces... but its dam good.... plus best bat life I have got from a rom Unless you want one thats stripped down (then you can get more bat life) but I like to use my S3 and I enjoy hell out of it... anyway k
Try jellybam.... if its to not the norm for you just go with AOKP or Im sure cm10 be fine too... I never tried them though..
Later bro. There all good in there own way. Try a few its as simple as a back up lol
I've also tried Jellybam for a few days and battery life has surpassed the other roms I've tried (Tasks' AOKP and Liquidsmooth which I've used for about a month each). I mostly use my phone for web browsing, sms, and skype. I do not call much. I was pretty shocked that I was still at 60% after a day (used about 2 hours of screen time). I've also used ktoonsez kernel with the same settings for each rom.

With the unlocked bootloader and rom development I figured this would be a good time for people to post their own experiences and preferences thus far with what they have tried. Be as detailed or as vague as you want and maybe we can help some folks make up their own minds.
For me, I have tried 2 somewhat extensively. CM 10.1 and AOKP.
- CM 10.1 - For me, it was exactly what people have been saying. It's basically stock 4.2.2. I didn't give it enough time to experience it's battery life. It seemed stable, but for all of the "trouble" I went to (I'm not very technology savvy), I felt like I wanted to get a little more out of a custom rom.
- AOKP - After short tests of Carbon and PAC, I hopped over to AOKP. Super customizable. I love to nitpick over settings on my phone anyway, so this played right into my preferences. It's very quick. Didn't feel any different from CM 10.1 as that was quick too. But both are snappier than stock. Battery life seems either the same or better than stock. I am just really enjoying this rom. Haven't run into any real serious issues. Although I will recommend that you go into developer settings and disable HW overlays. This will assist in better Web scrolling more smoothly for whatever reason. The only other minor issue I've seen relates to when the phone is booting up, for a quick moment you'll see a fuzz screen for maybe a third of a second. Nothing major, but would like to see it hopefully ironed out at some point.
- Carbon & PAC - Will consider giving them some good time in the future if I ever start feeling adventurous.
Overall it's nice being able to really do what I want with my M with root, an unlocked bootloader, and a custom ROM. After all, android is about options, isn't it?

I really enjoyed the aesthetics it offered especially changing the color of the navbar which unfortunately I couldn't find without using a ROM. So I decided to go and get the version he was working on before which is Eclipse. installed it today loving it so far. camera works fine but still don't have all my old contacts. Sync your contacts with Goggle and you should always be able to restore them.
As for ROMs, I'm on Slim and I've been on it for a while. I ran AOKP for about 2 weeks and it had the best battery life out of any of the AOSP ROMs. However, I like the custom options of Slim and I'm using Marxman's port of it.

Orion AOKP is my fav (mostly due to battery life), so I'm sticking with that until Key Lime Pie comes out. In my experience, Orion AOKP is essentially just like the unofficial AOKP, but with battery saving and script tweaks.

Orion AOKP is my fav (mostly due to battery life), so I'm sticking with that until Key Lime Pie comes out. In my experience, Orion AOKP is essentially just like the unofficial AOKP, but with battery saving and script tweaks.

Unlocked my bootloader and flashed my first ROM last night. I gotta say, carbon is DOPE. I've had ZERO major problems and it's extremely fast and battery life slightly better than stock. And the customization options are crraaazzyyyy.
Definitely worth it

I've tried both Pac and Carbon. Pac had more options, Carbon seemed snappier but with more fc's. I threw Liquid smooth when it showed up on goo a few weeks ago and I have settled down with it. It has been fast and very stable.
