I download gb08 stock restore and flashed that yesterday and i thought that was rooted but it wasnt so i went back and downloaded the rooted version and flashed it...Then i download root explorer and realize superuser is denying everything by itself.. I tried downloading SuperSU but its getting denied too.. I tried resetting superuser data and tried making it so that it accepts everything that asks it...
So why is this happening? is root broken?

Can anyone help me get root to install on my device? I ODIN'd Chris41g's "[ACS][KERNEL][ODIN] Stock Pulled Repacked with CWM5 ****Updated 10/28****" with no problem and got CWM installed, did a nandroid backup and all is well. No matter which version of the SU zip I try to flash next though, it fails. I get an error message reporting a failure and Status 0. I have tried the folowing versions of SU:
update-su-3.0.zip
Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip
su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip
su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
All have failed with the same error message. I am clearly missing a step out somewhere, anyone spot what it is?!
Thanks for any tips.
This may be a roundabout way to get root, but I first odined another, rooted kernel, then Chris's. The root stayed after flashing his kernel.
Did u check to see if u have root? Sometimes it fails but still give root?

You can probably just install Superuser from the market.

I saw a couple of people mention that and it definitely wasn't rooted, the Wireless Tether app wouldn't start up because it said I wasn't rooted

Well that's what I thought, and it installed fine. The Superuser app will open, but nothing that requires root will work.

Nope, but I just looked for that option and cant' find it. The SU app says I am on 3.0.6 which I think is the latest, right?

no, doesn't matter since you'll be flashing chris's right over it. i had several of zedomax's kernels before going to Chris's.

Great, thanks for the tip! I used the LoStkernel and then flashed Chris' over the top and I have root and CWM! Next up is the NoCIQ mod and I am 90% there.
I can't get the Wireless Tether app to work properly, but at least it starts and doesn't complain I have no root, so I just need to work that out.
Thanks for your help.
**EDIT** Used the latest beta of Wifi Tether for Root users (3.1beta6) and it works fine, can't encrypt the connection, but I can tether, using 3 or 4G.
If you want to overclock try Tegrak, then you're all set.

I keep losing root access after flashing 2.3.3 roms. I have some 2.3.3 roms in recovery that work fine. Is it required to flash a new superuser when I flash a new rom setup? If so what order do i flash? 1 flash formatt all zip 2 flash rom 3 flash kernel 3 flash gapps 4 flash gps fix .zip??? I Originally rooted using unrevoked 3 then ran CM6 snap to CM7 to OMGB Fresh ect. no problem. Now some GB roms CM7.1.0 and numerous Sense roms come up after flash no ROOT access.
You have to go to the SU app and enable permissions. You're not losing root.
If SU isn't baked into the rom that you flash, you have to get it from market like hip kat said

I have installed the cwm with no problems using ODIN. I then transfered the SU zip file to my sdcard. I booted the phone into recovery mode, found the zip file and ran it. I rebooted the phone , superuser was there. I then downloaded titanium back up from the market and installed it, it gave me an error about not having the needed permissions. I then downloaded rootchecker to see if i was rooted and it responded with not rooted. So then I ran the cwm again, and did the zip again and still not rooted. So in my ultimate noobness i figured I'd do start from scratch again and did a factory reset. Of course the CWM was still there and superuser is still on the phone. Now when I try to power the phone off it locks on the goodbye screen. I thought I did alot of reading on the tutorials and what not before I gave this ago. Any suggestions or help would be greatfully appreciated.

just make sure you follow the steps for correct model. that's how i always start from scratch. afterwards reroot (which is also included on the site i posted) and install all your stuff. come back and get your prefered rom and voila. good luck
You need to make sure it's the right su file for your ROM version. ICS 4.03 uses 3.07.
Edit, originally thought you were talking about CM until I realized you were talking about CWM.

Sorry, I'm using Darkside Telus ICS not CM. I used su 3.07 to root.
I would assume each CM ROM has it's own gapps zip.
They are either baked in or you have to flash them separate. Usually its part of the thread if you have to or not and they will be included
Deff misread you post.. my bad.. my original response would have been still my solution. I would go back to complete stock and then reroot . Just one thing. If you already done that, did you fully factory reset from withing the phone. Maybe that could be the problem. Go to settings/ back up and reset/ factory reset. This will wipe everything that was previously installed. Make sure you do this after you unroot. And then start over from scratch. You should have no issue.
"feeding this unicorn carrots til the finish line"
Seeing as these responses your getting have nothing to do with your question .. I have a suggestion. Since you have CWM have you thought of just flashing a stock already rooted rom?

I've looked around and cannot find a solution specific to my issue. If someone can direct me to where I can find a solution I would be grateful.
I have a Samsung Epic 4g (Galaxy S) and have CWM on it. I recently did a factory reset of the phone and after resetting, Titanium Backup (not Pro) is stuck on the "asking for root rights...." screen, even after Superuser Elite asks to allow it.
I've seen things that say to uninstall the updates to SU and I've tried that. I've tried uninstalling SU Elite and Titanium Backup then reinstalling and I can't figure it out.
I'm somewhat of a novice when it comes to this, and brand new to this site so I'm hoping someone can help me with this while walking me through it if need be.
Thank you greatly.

That's what I was thinking, but once I booted up my phone after the factory reset, superuser was still there. Doesn't that mean my phone is still rooted? Not to mention, I've booted up cwm a bunch still after the reset? I'm confused.

Awesome idea, I wasn't aware. However, I downloaded it, ran it and it verified my root access with no issues. HMPH. I have no idea what to do.
DEFINITELY A RE-ROOT, I say.
Superuser is just an app managing "ALLOWs" and "DENYs". The real issue should be that you lost/broke your su binary in /system/xbin... If you have CWM then easily recover by flashing the latest SU zip package found at http://androidsu.com/superuser/ . Good luck
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Team Epic has a CWM flashable that should also clear any binary remnants and get you back rooted the right way.. You can then flash TWRP and all that afterwards if you want.
epiccm.blogspot.com/p/about-epic-cm.html is the site link...mught help you.

Well, you have all been a big help. I downloaded this latest su zip and was about to see if it was the issue. Right before I did that, I said "what the hell" and tried flashing via rom manager one more time. You guessed it, it worked. All the headaches for no apparent reason. However, I thank everyone. I'm a new member to the site and it's refreshing to see many try and come to your aid.
Hey guys,
I have looked around for the solution to this but can't find one.
Starting out rooted, I updated my phone to SkyNote 4.3 (not sure if that helps) and still had root for a minute. I went through the process of setting up the phone how I like it, and after a few restarts, the root went away. This has happened twice. I've read posts where people talked about Android 4.3 deleting root but here's where the story gets interesting:
The threads/posts that people are pointing to to fix it is pretty much centered around Chainfire's post on Google+ https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/Jkuu84odnx6 .
The difference between the similar posts are that Chainfire has updated the version over the months. I have tried flashing that update zip over and over but I still have no root and the SU app is still buried in my system/app folder, which of course I can't delete because I have no root. I guess my questions are does anyone know how to delete this system/app apk for SU without wiping and starting from another ROM or know how to correct it in general?
Thanks you guys for reading.

Thanks, I didn't think about that, but because of my unique situation, I couldn't even get 1click to recognize my phone. So after searching more and more, the answer is exactly what I was doing but a more updated SU zip. It's in the second post of SkyNote 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46798454&postcount=2
That may help another Android 4.3 ROM user

I have the exact same issue with my SGH_I317M. I rooted with CF-Root, flashed TWRP, flashed Skynote 4.3, flashed the update, flashed the Rogers modem and flashed the WIFI fix all with ODEN. Everything works. Even WIFI. But I lost Root. I made 2 full backups with TWRP. 1st. right after flashing TWRP still with 4.1.2 ROM and the 2nd after flashing 4.3 and all the patches. When I restore back to 4.1.2 all is good. When I restore to 4.3 Skynote, I loose Root. I tried flashing the SuperUser Update but it fails. Any help would be much appreciated.

My last comment should help. When you flash the update, make sure it's the one from the post above. It carries the latest SU. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to do, but it worked for me because the SU binaries want to update but it needs the correct one.

Thank you Deon. I was reading this thread yesterday using the XDA app on my mobile for the first time. I downloaded the updated binary from this thread using my mobile. After several install failures I opened propertie for the zip and discovered it was empty. I downloaded the update from the OP through my PC, transferred the file to my SD and now all is good again with my root. CHEERS!
