I have installed the cwm with no problems using ODIN. I then transfered the SU zip file to my sdcard. I booted the phone into recovery mode, found the zip file and ran it. I rebooted the phone , superuser was there. I then downloaded titanium back up from the market and installed it, it gave me an error about not having the needed permissions. I then downloaded rootchecker to see if i was rooted and it responded with not rooted. So then I ran the cwm again, and did the zip again and still not rooted. So in my ultimate noobness i figured I'd do start from scratch again and did a factory reset. Of course the CWM was still there and superuser is still on the phone. Now when I try to power the phone off it locks on the goodbye screen. I thought I did alot of reading on the tutorials and what not before I gave this ago. Any suggestions or help would be greatfully appreciated.

just make sure you follow the steps for correct model. that's how i always start from scratch. afterwards reroot (which is also included on the site i posted) and install all your stuff. come back and get your prefered rom and voila. good luck
You need to make sure it's the right su file for your ROM version. ICS 4.03 uses 3.07.
Edit, originally thought you were talking about CM until I realized you were talking about CWM.

Sorry, I'm using Darkside Telus ICS not CM. I used su 3.07 to root.
I would assume each CM ROM has it's own gapps zip.
They are either baked in or you have to flash them separate. Usually its part of the thread if you have to or not and they will be included
Deff misread you post.. my bad.. my original response would have been still my solution. I would go back to complete stock and then reroot . Just one thing. If you already done that, did you fully factory reset from withing the phone. Maybe that could be the problem. Go to settings/ back up and reset/ factory reset. This will wipe everything that was previously installed. Make sure you do this after you unroot. And then start over from scratch. You should have no issue.
"feeding this unicorn carrots til the finish line"
Seeing as these responses your getting have nothing to do with your question .. I have a suggestion. Since you have CWM have you thought of just flashing a stock already rooted rom?

I have a problem, that I cannot find nor figure out the solution, I hope there is someone here that can help. I have used and have flashed with Odin many many times and have never had a problem.
Problem:
I am running a BeastMod 5.0, and before that I was running a ICS ROM...can't remember which one. I wanted to make sure I had everything ready for when the Official ICS dropped. Went to flash the stock which is posted here, got all the way (in Odin) to the Modem cache.img.ext4 part and that is where it hangs. I actually left it overnight just to make sure, and was still stuck on that part of the flash. It keeps rebooting to the Kies download page and only way to fix is to Odin Flash clockwork recovery. I have tried the super wipe, cache wipe, and every other tool I can find, but it still always get stuck at the part listed above.
Hopefully someone else has had the same problem and been able to fix. All help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah I checked the MD5, all are good. Re-downloaded and rechecked just to make sure. What is weird is....Everything flashes fine individually...or through recovery. I can get it back to stock, but with one big all inclusive package it gets stuck at the same place?

Try reflashing the recovery. Once in recovery, reflash the ROM. That is what I had to do. Hope it helps. Also, make sure and upload the ROM to your SD Card...the superwipe doesn't touch the SD Card.

Put your phone in download mode, open Odin, flash non-touch recovery 5.0.2.7, then boot to recovery, go to mounts and storage, mount usb, transfer ROM, flash ROM, fix permisssions, reboot and enjoy!
Why does this never work the way its supposed to for me??
Anyway, so I just got my S3 and I hate the stock ROM already so I want to go to CM (9 maybe, 10 if it works well). I'm right now just trying to get Clockwork recovery installed and working and seem to be failing miserably. At first it seemed to be going ok, I downloaded Odin 3.04 and a recovery TAR that was on the Android Authority guide for the AT&T S3. I ran the install no problems, and booted into recovery without issue. I then tried installing CM10 and it gave and Status 7 assert failure.
After a lot of digging I finally found some people saying that it was because of an incorrect version of CWM, so I dug around till I found a 6.0.1.0 tar that says its for my phone. I install that and now I can't get into recovery at all. It will still boot into the stock rom but that's it. I saw some suggestions saying that unchecking auto reboot, and f. reset time would fix this so I did that and still nothing. I can't get into recovery at all. Is there a definitive (as in this still works) guide out there somewhere??

Ok so I found some CWM tars that they they're v.6+ that I can get installed (at least I assume so since Odin says it worked) but when I get in there the version listed at the top is 5.5.0.4, should this number not match? I haven't even gotten around to trying to get it to install CM10 yet.
I used rom manager to flash its recovery. No problems what so ever.

By Rom Manager you are talking about the App you use from within the OS? So would I need root for this?

Check your build prop for device name. Maybe its not correct because of the Rom you're on. Whats the error you're getting?
Did you ever get TWRP on your phone?
I've had goofy issues with TWRP but much prefer it to CWM. Originally rooted using CWM and SuperSu and switched to TWRP when I flashed CleanRom several times via Romtoolbox pro I've flashed updated Twrp it said it was successful but when it rebooted was soft bricked! Had to use Odin and original CWM to get back in and re-install everything (nandroids were twrp backups) found file downloaded to sdcard that worked fine! Odd...

If by "installed" you are referring to the recovery program itself (and not your backups), you can only have one recovery 'installed' at one time as there is only 1 "Recovery" partition on the device (/dev/block/mmcblk0p9). So if you want to install CWM instead of your current TWRP (or visa-versa), either flash the appropriate new recovery zip via your current recovery... or Odin3 flash your desired new recovery tar. Either way, it will write to the same recovery partition. If you are referring to your backups... these are stored in the designated path you selected (either internal sd or external sd)... in the TWRP/BACKUPS folder. In that folder, you will have a device id #... in that folder are your backups.
Gotcha! Thanks the way it acted I wondered if there were "leftovers" in recovery partition or corrupt data. When I reflashed CWM or TWRP via ODIN it didn't say "Passed" instead "RESET" and I had to unplug phone and manually boot recovery which sometimes took a couple tries... Only boxes checked in Odin are reset time and reboot.

Which version of Odin3 are you using? When I used Odin3 v1.85 I would get the "PASSED" but with Odin3 v3.07, I also only got "RESET" (on an WindowsXP box)... but both flashed it correctly (and auto rebooted after flash)

I tried the [Galaxy Note2 TOOLKIT V3.0.0 ATT] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052779 out of curiosity sake. Worked for me installing TWRP 2.3.2.3 without a hitch. Great tool from what I can see, and that's just one of it's many features. Great for simplifying things for new Android users just entering the customizing scene and regulars alike. Big ups to mskip for making this available. I can foresee myself grabbing the donate version here real soon.

I am trying to upgrade my Virgin ROM to the 9.12 build but get a fail upon trying to flash it. The background.... I'm using TWRP recovery and have tried the chainfire root method. Here are the results:
As you can see you can see some conflicting information... all shots were taken in sequence. I'm thinking the fail in twrp is coming from the system not having root but the info is telling me otherwise....

Do you have the latest SuperSU version?
I'm a little lost at what you are saying.
You flashed a rom, and it said fail, and you think it has to do with Root?
If you have TWRP installed it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not. It's going to over right the system partition regardless if you have root or not.
So it's either a bad download or bad transfer for it to fail.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4
I do have the latest SU version by chain fire. And maybe I'm doing something wrong the because I am running the virgin gpe ROM now and that flashed in twrp with no issues. Now when I go to install (after wiping) and select the 9.12 update that I downloaded it hangs on trying to open the zip and fails... I haven't changed any twrp settings but in the write options of twrp what boxes should be checked because system is not by default... Thanks for the replies!

If all else fails, just start from scratch, get stock UVUAMDL tar, flash it with Odin, make sure to do a factory wipe after you flash it, sometimes bootloops occur if you don't. You don't even have to go past the first screen where you pick the language. Just shut it down from there and boot into download mode and root with Chainfire with Odin, then shut down and boot up again into download mode again and flash custom recovery tar of ur choice with Odin. Then download whatever custom rom zip and install it via custom recovery.

heyyy saw your reply in my thread.
just as @byron1985 suggested there, it sounds like you got a bad download. the flashing scripts are essentially exactly the same from previous version. the flashing process has absolutely zero to do with SuperSU.
edit: re-read. so you've verified the download. if you had success with CWM previously, i would go back to that. i do not use TWRP.

See you shoulda said you were running 2.6.3 lol
word of advice (and to all who run twrp)
DO NOT RUN ANYTHING GREATER THAN 2.5.2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello and thanks to all those before me who give great advice on troubleshooting....
Here's my situation:
Phone is Rooted.
I downloaded an app a few days ago from the Play Store, so I could move my app installs to the sdcard. When i installed the app it said that there was something wrong " can't remember the exact message " and it needed to fix it. My dumbass allowed it to fix it and here is where my problems began.
Right after that I began receiving a message "Shell has been granted Super User", phone began to run sluggish and the Play Store App would always say it was crashing.
So I figured, screw it I would format and start w/a new ROM anyway.... I did not have any sort of backup (of course dumbass)
However I loaded up the latest version of Odin 3.09 and just incase I installed the root.zip again incase that was destroyed. Then I installed the latest version of OUDHS CWM-Based Recovery 1.0.3.3 ( Previously I had TWRP )
I downloaded a few different roms so I could see what I wanted...However...here's where things get interesting, and I did do some research on it but couldn't find a way to resolve the 1st problem.
When I first started to install a ROM, don't remember which one I was getting a signature verification failed....I had read that it could be 2 things, one the MD5 was bad, I verified that, so that wasn't the issue. Then I came across that it may have been a ROM that my device(Samsung) somehow knew wasn't approved, therefore prevented it from being installed....OK fine...
Next I found a ROM that was going to work via installing...So i picked the CM10.2 and wiped/format/davik/cache...etc... Installation took a few mins...Then when I rebooted, it's been on the Cyangenmod screen for 45 mins +....
Is there anyway I can do some verification that something further isn't interfering w/my installs?
Thanks in advance and any guidance is GREATLY appreciated...
Regards
Erik

Actually I tried that and I used this one from stockroms.net TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131.zip
the verification failed immediately, however, when I checked it w/the MD5 hash on my computer it checks out...That's where I'm wondering if there is something else going on...
Or are you talking about something else regarding stock? If so could you clarify...Thanks
