I keep losing root access after flashing 2.3.3 roms. I have some 2.3.3 roms in recovery that work fine. Is it required to flash a new superuser when I flash a new rom setup? If so what order do i flash? 1 flash formatt all zip 2 flash rom 3 flash kernel 3 flash gapps 4 flash gps fix .zip??? I Originally rooted using unrevoked 3 then ran CM6 snap to CM7 to OMGB Fresh ect. no problem. Now some GB roms CM7.1.0 and numerous Sense roms come up after flash no ROOT access.
You have to go to the SU app and enable permissions. You're not losing root.
If SU isn't baked into the rom that you flash, you have to get it from market like hip kat said

im searching and searching the thread for answers, but i cant seem to find one that fixes my evo's root. i recently had the newest stock rooted rom and everything was working fine even the root.. today i flashed to ics 4.0.3 from deck and i seem to have lost root access.. supposedly my phone is still rooted, and i do believe it is, since superuser works and everything, but when i open titanium back or any other app that needs su persmission, i get access denied.. my head hurts.. and if i miss anything i would appreciate it if anyone can guide me in the right direction.. thanks. ps. i tried installing an older version of su from recover, but that didnt do much difference.. it still doesnt work

Whenever i try to install a new ROM on my HTC Wildfire 2.1 it blocks at the boot-up.
I erased everything and the cache memory from the ClockWork Recovery and made a back-up image.
I tried installing them from the cold-boot and with ROM Manager even though it's the same thing.
Also, by updating it to 2.2 will i lose my root?
Thanks
I am rockin a hero200 and i have gone between 1.5 to 2.2 to 2.1 then 2.3 back to 2.1 not in the same day of course.Through all that i have kept root with out having to re-root.
you should be fine depending on how you go about rooting it. as for the problem you are having im not the most qualified out there but i do know my fare share it could be a bad recovery flash or your phone didn't hold the root i had that happen once.
i would recommend going on the market and downloading Root Checker to see if your is actually rooted.
what method did you use to root.
The one where you use the android sdk. Not the unrevoked one
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
not sure if i can link so goggle Guide one click root wildfire. <-- i beleave this is an unrevoked method
i talked to a friend he had a similar issue and that worked.
it should be the first. I usually dont recommend the one click root mainly because i like to have control over what is going on but it fixed a friends phone.
like i said before use Root Checker to see if your is actually rooted.
when i first rooted my phone last year i had a recovery img but no root privileges in the the phone and i fixed it by re-rooting.
il look some more and get back to you but if you want to give this a shot i hope this helps. good luck my friend
The app says that my phone is rooted.
So, i remember now how i rooted the phone.
Installed the HBOOT drivers, then Unrevoked.
Any way of un-rooting the phone, update, re-root?
Also, will it work on 2.2?
ok so this is what i found you can try to find a wildfire stock ruu. I have never looked into un-rooting so im not the best one to ask. From what i understand it flashes a stock rom back to the phone.
you can also try looking up other methods of flashing and test them out when i started thats what i did. i mean your phone is already saying its rooted whats the harm. just read and ask questions before you try something never hurts to be safe and let the others know what your attempting and why.
Unrooting is not my problem.
I want to know why i can't install a custom rom on my phone.

n0ster are you going back to stock using odin? That was my problem and with my captivate, I used odin did the back to the American stock and I was able to load my first rom which was firefly!!!
No. Now it seems i can't update to 2.2.
So i should go back to stock, and try installing a new rom?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I was thinking.
If i would reset the phone to its factory settings, then root it again.
Would i still be able to install the ROM?

hey everyone, I had clockwork recovery, which I wanted to get rid of. I got the stock recovery.img from htc vision wiki and flashed it using adb. but when i go to rom manager it still says current recovery:clock work. I cant even flash any alternate recovery in rom manager, because the option is not highlighted. I am just wondering is there any reason why i am unable to flash the stock recovery. Or is there anther recovery that I can download, and maybe try and flash that. Any help will be appreciated. thank you in advance.

RM might be lieing to you since that header is meant to show you what CWM you have installed and what the latest CWM is. Try booting into recovery from the bootloader and see what's there.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Pretty sure the OP is asking how to flash stock recovery or something other than clockworkmod.
My question is why? You don't have to flash newest cwm 5.X(you can flash older versions in RM) and there is a thread toget back to complete stock in dev section.
No alternate recoveries besides stock and cwm

thanks for the replies guys. no i flashed the stock recovery through adb. it sucks there is only stock or cwm. anyways the reason i was trying to get back to stock recovery is that i know gingerbread is already or will be available for htc desire z. and when it is rooted i want to upgrade to it. but i cant upgrade if i have cwm. and i dont like the modified rom people have. any ideas?
never mind, you were right. rm was lieing. crap my phone get factory reset. i wasnt expecting that....could have warned me -_- anyways i am guessing now i can update. btw if i update, then download clockwork. can i restore to my nandroid, which will have the 2.2?

It's already available for the G2 so it should be available for the DZ as well. Check the ROMs thread in the sticky, there's probably already a rooted version out that you could flash with CWM.

You have to unroot, get back to a fully stock setup, THEN take the OTA.
I have absolutely no idea why you would do this though. You can get any number of 2.3.3+ based ROMs, both stock and modified, that can just be flashed via recovery. You can be on the latest build and keep your root. Why go through all the hassle to unroot and upgrade when you could just keep root?

Not sure which apps youre referring to that aren't going to work in Canada... anything you use on your current ROM probably works on the 2.3 rooted Sense based ROMs lol.
The DZ is the G2 in the USA, and has completely different firmware. It doesn't have HTC sense. So you probably won't find many HTC Sense based ROMs that are "for the u.s." as you put it...
People like Virtuous unity. Its 2.3 based Sense with some Sense 3.0 flares. There are also a few stock pre-rooted OTA DZ builds out there. Go take a look in the dev section. If you like Sense, there are plenty of options for this device.
no i meant the rom that i will get has some apps that dont work in canada. anyways, what do you think is the best sense based rom with 2.3? post a link if possible. thanks.

I don't use Sense (don't like it) and I wouldn't wanna make a recommendation because I'm not very versed on them.
There are several options, I suggest you try them all and choose which you like. Lots of people like Virtuous Unity.

Can anyone help me get root to install on my device? I ODIN'd Chris41g's "[ACS][KERNEL][ODIN] Stock Pulled Repacked with CWM5 ****Updated 10/28****" with no problem and got CWM installed, did a nandroid backup and all is well. No matter which version of the SU zip I try to flash next though, it fails. I get an error message reporting a failure and Status 0. I have tried the folowing versions of SU:
update-su-3.0.zip
Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip
su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip
su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
All have failed with the same error message. I am clearly missing a step out somewhere, anyone spot what it is?!
Thanks for any tips.
This may be a roundabout way to get root, but I first odined another, rooted kernel, then Chris's. The root stayed after flashing his kernel.

Thanks for your help.
**EDIT** Used the latest beta of Wifi Tether for Root users (3.1beta6) and it works fine, can't encrypt the connection, but I can tether, using 3 or 4G.

I was recently asked to post some threads here on XDA with the tutorials I have on my site. As time permits I will be posting a series of threads here to the Q&A section that will hopefully answer most questions that might come up.
If you can't find your answer in one of my threads I would highly recommend BluesRulez One Stop FAQ Thread. It is an awesome resource and has answers to just about every question I've seen come up!

This thread details the process of how to root your device without having to flash a full stock ROM. This method works for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, SPH-D710BST and SPH-D710VMUB).
This method uses an Odin One-Click Kernel to install a kernel that includes a Custom Recovery. Once booted into the Custom Recovery you can then flash Superuser which will root your phone and give you Superuser access.
Prerequisites:
A PC running Windows with the Samsung Mobile Drivers Installed. The Samsung Mobile Drivers are available here.
Any One-Click Kernel (preferably from the Android version you will be using, i.e. GB, ICS or JB).
All Sprint One-Click Recovery kernels can be found here.
For this particular tutorial I used the following kernels:
Gingerbread: Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
Ice Cream Sandwich: Agat63's tFI27 Stock Recovery Repack (rev 2)
Jelly Bean: Agat63's Source-Built GB27 Recovery
Superuser (or SuperSU, MIUI Security, and etc) in a flashable zip, saved on your Internal or External SD Card. For this method I used SuperSU v1.25 (but any SU in a flashable ZIP should work). You can download several different versions here.
Although not required it is recommended that you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC as well. You can download Samsung Kies here.
Side-Effects:
This method will trigger the Yellow Triangle upon start-up and will increase your Odin count.
It will also change your startup screen to look like the International GS2 startup screen.
Both of these side-effects are very easy to overcome due to the hard work of Chainfire and Garwynn. You can get TriangleAway from Chainfire's thread here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

You might have to turn SU on depending on which version you flashed. Open the app and see if under settings you see something like "Enable SuperUser" and make sure it's enabled.
If that doesn't fix it we may need to try another zip with a different set of symlinks. Either way, we're here for you and will get you squared away.

If you're asking - Can I flash VM builds on the Sprint D710, the answer is - yes. Did it when I tested the builds and everything worked properly.
If you're asking - Can I flash a VM build and be on VM service? Obviously you'll need to be activated to their service and provisioned properly. That's when you'd need to make sure that mmsc/apn/nv data is captured. I don't know if VM is a byod provider. (write that shiz down)

Yes. Many, many people have used this method successfully.
There's nothing wrong with a stock kernel, it just doesn't have a custom recovery packed into it or any kernel tweaks.
But I am confused... If you're already rooted why are you pulling your hair out?

K. Before you dive in too much further I would recommend doing a little more research. This device had had issues in the past that have made it very easy to brick. You should be very careful.
As a side note - This thread is a how to root thread but it sounds like you're already rooted. I don't know that there's any reason to reroot your device. You don't actually have to be rooted to get on JB either. You could just flash a one-click of a JB ROM.
I download gb08 stock restore and flashed that yesterday and i thought that was rooted but it wasnt so i went back and downloaded the rooted version and flashed it...Then i download root explorer and realize superuser is denying everything by itself.. So why is this happening? is root broken?

I tried downloading SuperSU but its getting denied too.. I tried resetting superuser data and tried making it so that it accepts everything that asks it...
So why is this happening? is root broken?
