My opinion...Flash back to stock rom...Check wether the problem arise or not when using stock rom camera app...
If the problem still persists, flash the Cyber-Shot / Xperia V camera app...

I flashed ICS 6.1.E.2.68, ICS 6.1.E.3.7, Paranoid Android and XTXperience 1 and used camera apps.
Cyber-Shot camera app has not any effect on result

Check your camera lens. If the lens are dirty no rom or mod can help. I have a serious problem with me lens, it got scrtached so bad that pics come out vey blurry or with a slight halo. Im trying to find a way to polish the lens( its the outer lens by thr way, it can be removed) but ive had no luck so far. Cant order a replacement either since I would have to order the complete inner back plate. I have made a temporary solution but im not satisfied.

lens isnt dirty, if camera lens be near to subject, resulted photos will have good quality, but if distance between lens and object be more than 20cm, photo will be bleary. i think focusing operation has problem.

Could be, how about some sample shots? Try cybershot mod 4.7.2 ( dont know if the roms you flashed has it), in my opinion it takes better shots than the newer version

even sample shots result in bleary photos
I tested Cyber-Shot 5.1.1, but there was no difference. I will test version 4.7.2
i think camera driver has problem and led to bad focusing.

Sadly it seems like a hardware issue rather than software. You might want to send it for repairs.

i dont think. because some times , photos are not blurry (5% of token photos)
and i reed in XDA and Xperia blog that other peoples have same problem (Xperia S, ion, Acro S and ...)
I thinks its better to wait for JB update from Sony, maybe an official update can resolve problem.

Dude, watch your camera lens closer,u will see some scratches and the coating on the lens is getting off.I was exactly facing the same problem 3 months before. So i went the service center and they replaced the inner panel which holds the lens. The quality backs to normal as they were before. But the problem is back again. So i am taking my phone again to the service center the day after tomorrow .Of course my phone is under warranty.Back there in the service center one guy told me that he was facing the same problem again and again and forced to sell his phone.Don't worry if your phone is under warranty then it will get replaced.I wish i have helped you.

Camera wont focus... Brand new Evo... Not rooted

I bought an evo on release date and it had a few problems so I took it back and got a new one. About 2 hours after I got my new one home I heard it making a really fast clicking/tapping sound. (click click click tap tap tap) I thought the sound was coming from my speaker so I put it up to my ear after a few seconds I looked at the speaker and noticed that it wasnt the speaker but that it was the camera. I could see the lens physically moving back and forth really fast. Naturally I started the camera app to see what would happen. I snapped a picture and noticed that it was very blurry. I then went to camera settings and changed them and its still very blurry. Its almost as if the camera just refused to focus (looked like I needed glasses)... Naturally, the next step I took was to try to record a video... Same thing very blurry but sound is perfect. Next I tried the front facing camera. It was fine.
I have tried re-starting it a bunch of times... tried cleaning the lens...
About 4 or 5 hours later I took another picture and it was fine. Now the problem is intermittent and if I take 10 pictures 3 or 4 will be in focus and the others wont.
1. My phone is not rooted
2. I have not dropped it
3. It has not gotten wet.
4. Babied it the whole time I've had it.
5. Tried turning off auto focus and using manual
Any suggestions?
Take it back.

Same thing just happened to me on my Evo that is over a month old. Only happens intermittently though. After a reboot, it seems to be fine for a while.
mine is blurry too. is there any hack for it? im not covered by sprint for this. Maybe deal with htc directly? any ideas hackers?
wht the hell are you not covered by sprint? of course you are covered so take it back.
both of you guys take the damn things back... seriously why are you even here asking for help... the only help you will get is sprint repairing or replacing it

oh and resets can sometimes cure it for a while I think.
mine has been taking crisp pics all day now
If it's a defective phone and you havent voided the warrenty take it back anyways, it is HTC's warranty not Sprint's
Ive had my evo for almost two years and I installed the cm9 rom for it and the camera was having this problem so I went back to my backup and same problem. It wont focus. It acts like its focusing but just wont. Also I've opened the phone several times so a replacement is out of the question.
Every 004 I've had, had this issue. Unless I use CM7 camera software, or Sense 3 (?) Camera software.

Weird. Someone in the Evo LTE forum just had a camera hack completely bust their cam. Even after RUU. I didn't think it was possible. Apparently I'm wrong.

My camera has stopped functioning all it will do is render pink static. I wanted to see if there was a work around before I do an rma for a refurbished phone. Any ideas?

Backup your current setup
Flash the EVO camera found in the Virtuous Extra Goodies section of Rom d/l in Rom Manager.

Unless it's a software problem, that won't do anything.

You don't have to send it in for a refurb. You could always just replace the camera if you wanted to keep the exact phone you have now.

I haven't replaced mine, but I did replace the front bezel and digitizer, wasn't hard at all. I would believe the camera to be even easier to replace. I think there was a thread on here showing you how to do it also, unfortunately I can't find that at the moment.

[Q] Epic 4G Touch Camera Buzzing

Hello all, I've been having this issue with my camera making a buzzing sound when I try to record videos. Granted, it does not happen all the time, but it does happen and it's annoying. Wondering if anyone else has the issue, is this a software issue, or is it just my phone and I need a replacement??
I did notice this start after I began to install the Stock Rooted ICS Leaked OSs. I'm currently running FD24 Stock Rooted. Thank you guys in advance for your help and advice.
I actually came on to ask the same question. Just buzzed when trying to snap a picture with flash on. I'm running the new AOKP build 34. Sounds like the from is causing the camera to overwork?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Try shaking it when it's buzzing. Let me know if it stops.
Had this same issue before with my wifes.
Well 25 pics snapped with flash and 3 video records with no buzz. If I were to shake to stop does that mean a loose part or something of the sort?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
No, it's just the camera focusing. Sometimes when it buzzes you'll notice the everything is very out of focus. The camera lens actually moves when focusing and that buzzing noise is the lens at it's max (+/-) and still trying to move. Not sure why shaking it makes it stop but it does. Seems to be self correcting also. After a while it stops occurring.
Makes sense. The pics I snapped at the time weren't very focused either. I appreciate the info.

myne does not buzz but makes a noticable sound seemingly stemming from the actual lens its self everytime i open the camera app , which has just started recently , i am fearing a hardware failure , anyone else ever hear this noise when the opening the camera app?
Any description of the noise? The one we're talking about stems from the same place too.

Thank you for all your replies, glad I'm not the only one with this issue... I have been shaking and tapping the phone to make it stop when it has happened. Just very annoying when you are video recording and it happens. It's never happened while taking pictures. I thought it might be hardware related and there might a fix or solution besides shaking...

TRS, not sure if the reason is the camera being overworked. It seems to me that it's more of a hardware issue. When the buzzing does occur I can hear and feel it towards the center of the phone, not near the lens.
I am not sure if mine was from the center or lens since it was only for a second. I assumed the lens issue was right. Doing research I have only found one other case and reason was not given. Sounds like the answer is lens or hardware. Hrm
Sent from my Epically Flashed Touchable Epic using XDA
Yeah i cant feel an actual buzz or vibration and it only occures for like 1 second to 2 when the camera first starts , and has dissapeared all together on Mijhz new AKOP ICS rom.
Mine makes the same buzzing sound and shaking it does help but I can hear something rattle in the lense so my guess is something has come loose that causes the buzzing.

I buzzed twice last night and it happened on opening the camera then switching to video camera. It was in fact the lens and shaking did fix it. Looks like hardware and I might just have to figure out how to reset my binary count seeing as it is at 22 lol. Anyone know of a way to do so?

If you're on ICS just use the Triangle away app then flash back to a completely stock EL29 rom.
If you're just going to trade it in with Sprint for another one then don't worry if it bricks it in the process. Sad part is that there's really on indication if this buzzing is just a fluke event or if it's actually a sign of hardware failure.

There has to be some sort reason or cause, whether it's a hardware or software issue, that is causing our cameras to buzz and hum when we open the app or switch from video to stills in the app... Just looking for an answer so that if it's hardware, then I'd go get a replacement... Thank you.
If anyone is still paying attention to this thread I am guessing it is hardware. It now buzzes for me every time I open the camera. If I click the screen and it catches a focus it stops. My reason for commingle back for an update is I jumped over to CWM9A5 and now it buzzes continuously when I run the torch. Since I can now do it on command I think I am going to order me a jig and reset my BC and flash complete stock and take it in to show Sprint!

you dont need a jig just download triangle away from the market, it will reset your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle
I'm also having this on my phone. It honestly started after my first ics rom and continued on every build so idk if it's ics related. Once my camera focus it stops but I can get it to do it again by repeatedly tapping on different parts of the screen till the lens has a hard time focusing. I'm assuming the camera is struggling to focus which is the cause of this.

[Q] Camera will not focus, can I fix?

I have only had this phone a few weeks and already the camera will not focus, could I have broke the focus by dropping it? Can software mess up the focus? Right now I am rooted running Liquidsmooth. I have reverted to stock and it does not fix...I know this thing can take better pics than what i am taking. Anyone know the default camera settings? I bought it at bestbuy, would I take it back their or the sprint store to get fixed? Thanks

[Q] Does a stock FW restore the kernel if it was changed?

When I switched over from a black to a white Xperia Play, I ended up having to go with a used one. The bootloader was unlocked and it arrived running some version of ICS (which I immediately got rid of after finding out some of my most played games didn't work right).
The front camera has never worked for me. The back one works fine but if I even attempt to switch to the front camera, I get a prompt reading "Can't connect to camera," the app crashes, and I end up having to clear the camera's data and reboot before I can even use the back one properly again. The flex cable had been replaced, and from that it seems easy to deduce that my front camera issues might have been caused by an improper flex cable replacement.
I'm wondering though.. could it be a kernel issue caused by whatever kernel was tied to the ICS rom this arrived with? I used FlashTool to put the stock 2.3.4 generic NA rom on here (same one I've always used) and figured that would restore everything to normal.
...the front camera isn't scoring any high marks for quality, but I miss video hangouts on Google+
Its been a common problem for me the front camera broke on all three of mine :/ the two that survived one has a green front camera now and the other just doesnt work (cannot conect to camera)
I must say Im abit heavy handed and all of them have had a tough life lol
So it seems like the previous owner maybe was the same
And yes a full ftf flash will wipe kernel theres even a ftf to flash that will re-lock bootloader but personally I wouldnt its fun testing different Roms and conparing them to stock
I allways do witb my 2 xplays

Thanks for the response! That eases my mind a bit. This Xperia Play has a couple physical blemishes so I'll probably just buy another one sometime soon and be free of that camera issue that way.
BTW, holy crap! Time does fly... doesn't even feel like I've been half a year with no uploads. Now that I don't have finals on my plate anymore, I'm probably gonna get back to making videos.
