Well, my phone has been randomly reboot and stuck on a bootloop like crazy after my niece dropped my phone. I went to a repair shop saying that maybe the motherboard damaged due to the impact and they can't repair it. Wanted to send it to Samsung Service Center but is it worth the trouble. If it cost the same or more than when I bought it (I bought the phone secondhand), I think I consider buying a new phone then.

edit.
maybe u can call SSC(samsung service centre) n ask them how much does it cost for replacing damaged motherboard.will save your time on going there.

do call SSC for the price.iv once experienced hardware prob(the ribbon for sliding+motherboard) with my phone(nokia C6-00) and when i ask nokia center whats the cost for repair it,they said the cost is around half price of that phone..at that time of the repair, with that price i can buy a new phone with almost the same spec(slightly lower)..n once u know the price do look out for any phone which u can buy with that amount of cost..n also do tell us what is the cost for repairing it since i hv not found others who mention bout the price.
edit:it was a 1st hand nokia.so in your case since u bought secondhand w im afraid the cost of repairing it may reach the price when u bought the phone

Sorry if the title offended motorola lover(my apologies)
but really..
motorola really sucks.:/.
Firstly downgrading our hardware(overclocking the same processor in other phones)
then serving us with a locked boot loader..(with an indefinably long waiting time for unlocking)
then at the time of repairing they take 2 weeks to replace a motherboard and then return a completely different defy to customer(broken from side, various cracks and scratches, even the front housing was not the same as the scratches that were on my old defy were not even there now) ..
what came to my surprise was that their customer support replaced my whole motherboard while they had to replace just camera unit...
and when i said there is some mishap(that they might have given me the wrong piece) the engineer started blaming me saying you didnt tell us of any scratch and all..
and he started saying that motorola has a policy that any phone damaged during the repairing is to be bourne by customer and i was like
..
but i asked him to give me that in writing but he started hesitating and some how got convinced to send it to corporate office for repair
now you tell me is it fair to give me a badly damaged phone after repairing only because i chose motorola over samsung or nokia..
sorry for any grammatical error is any as i am feeling sleepy...

the b/l will never be unlocked for defy by moto ^^
if it were we'd hold on to our aging ph's for a couple more years & wouldn't go out and buy say a razr with official unlocked b/l or the like...
modders mod & play with their ph's voiding warranty... if I break it I fix it
ph repair services can be dodgy at the best of times
it's not just moto services that are fubar...

Its not the same with nokia(i love their service)..
once i had a broken earphone on e71 and much to my surprise they replaced it within 10 mins or so..
and while same with motorola took one week to get repaired..
if i break it i am responsible(i know) but the phone broke when i flashed original rom.
So its motorola's software who broke it
not am waiting for my mobile to send to chennai for replacement..

They are just evil but their phones are damn good. They give one the finest hardware. I get it they overclock the same processor and use it. It is actually beneficial. Even if you buy a phone with less processing speed, you can still overclock it. Its not just MOTO does this each and every android manufacturer do this. Most of the time they use the same processor on many phones. I agree service centers in INDIA are really bad. More over you don't have any idea about Samsung. Nokia sucks with their stupid firmware and the stylish N800 with a stupid Windows Phone OS.
Surprisingly, this my 8th phone from Motorola and I'm pretty satisfied..
Had a few experience with servicing and it was satisfactory..I broke my BT headset once n it was replaced with a brand new one..
Locked BL is a pain sometimes but at the same time, it means there's a little chance to brick the phone..
Doesn't matter from where I send it, what matters is written above
The only good thing about Defy is its ruggedness..
Without it, certainly i will immediately sell my phone to another one, which have an option to unlock its bootloader.
Just look at Sony, they write an OFFICIAL step by step to unlock devices bootloader.
Of course it will broke the warranty, but at least customer have their right to do whatever they want to their devices. To unleash its power and capabilities on proper custom rom.
Sorry Motorola, this is my last Motorola device. Unless Motorola change their policy about what customer could do on their devices.

I love Motorola phone.....
It had excellent hardware and excellent quality...
But service center are like hell.....
I gave my phone for 1and half months now.. Still I didn't got it back...
This is one thing why we started feeling to go for Nokia......
Hey guy today I was planning on updating my gio to ics via galaxyics.com but before I did that I tried to backup my rom via rom manager and it went all wrong. After I hit the OK button my phone turned off and would not turn on via power button or charging (even removed the battery for 15minutes) I can't get it on at all. So if my knowledge is correct is this not hard bricking and how could I fix it. I no it won't be easy but what if I flashed my phones internal memory somehow and reloaded android to it. Would that work? Other options please help. If nothing works btw how much do you think i could get for it on eBay or something (maybe as parts)?
Take it to service center, they will fix it for free as long as you say you didn't root it. Sorry man, but this is the same hard brick i got a couple of months ago
Sent from my GT-S5660
If you own a Gio, don't install ROM Manager on it - you have a better chance bricking your phone than doing anything useful with it.

Last time i used rom manager nothing worked, downloadmode, recovery, booting. Give up this thing needs to be repaired there is nothing you can do.

Alpacino: they would in all likelihood change the motherboard.
If you're in the Montreal area there is an authorized Samsung service centre near the 40 and Cavendish, it's called Service Absolut. I would suggest you take your phone there. You might even be able to wait while they repair it.
As per my experience and this thread you will need some proof of purchase though to get warranty service.
Good luck,
Darkshado
Got the same brick. It worked only after they've changed its motherboard!

Unfortunately I'm about 12 hours from Quebec but on the up side I found full schematics for tthe phone last night. Now I am curious to why you say the mother board as I assumed the boot pprocedures where stored on the internal memory of the phone hence why they got damaged not in the bios of the motherboard. How much you think a new board will run me?
Nothing with a bit of luck

The thread I linked to also has a Samsung phone number worth trying to get a shipping label for the service center (be it the one in Montreal or another, they have a few). And they shouldn't really care who your carrier is as long as you have a proof of purchase (even something with the original seller's name on it and note of some sort might work).
Got galaxy Note 2 , totally bricked right now , Gave it to my friend and he returned me back with completely black screen. Could you please suggest me if anything i can try on this one.
Things i have tried so far
1) Tried with different battery no luck
2) externally charge battery with external charger no luck
3) checked all the connectors inside , all are looking intact
4) replaced charging port no luck
Seems like this device got bricked somehow, is there any way to turn it alive ??

What's the success rate on these devices ?? Do we have any instructional videos or any support how to use RIFFBOX , just want to make sure if i would be able to use it before i make my order
I have just realised that you don't tell us if you have warranty... if you have it then use it. Cause the way I've told you before probably will void the warranty.
----
I don't know how it works in your country but here in mexico, there are several External Service Centers (not official) they repare anything, softbrick, hardware brick, change the case cover, dialpad, etc. but it has a cost. If you buy the box just to repair your phone I think it will cost a lot of money to you since this boxes works with a lot of models of different brands (they are expensive) and you need technical knowledge about how to work with them.
In my case, the Service Center first tried with riffbox (cheaper and fast way) and it worked to turn on the phone in a couple of minutes, it was indicating there was bootloader broken so it worked when tried to rapair it but since my emmc memory was kinda buggy, it died the same day, so i left it again to warranty on the SC and they then tried with jtag this way they told me is like the "hard reset" since wipe and make again the partition system and install all the stuff, now works pretty well but they make a warning to me abut future deads because the final solution and the real one that needs my phone is to change the motherboard (they don't change just the emmc).
But if your emmc is ok, they probably just need to use riffbox maybe jtag but your phone will surely be ok again.
the cost for the reparation should be about 30-50 USD
If you don't know where is one of this external service centers on your town, try searching on google about riffbox, jtag service center in -your town-.

The handset may have water-detector substance inside, which will change its colour once the substance get in touch with any liquid. So, once the water detector is tripped, you'll loose your warranty even if the damage isn't caused by water.
Now if you want to repair it paying the required money, and the company refuses to do it, you can definitely lodge a complain because the handset is within support period.
it is better to buy other good device than mediatek... even i m frustrated with lenovo and mediatek... this is last phone with mediatek and now its goodbuy to mediatek ..

recently i bricked my phone and it's in edl mode which I had posted here also where people told me to go to service center and do edl flashing but but will they ask money ig they can't because my phone is under warranty and its just 2 months old so any ideas that they'll ask for money
When you get there, just act like you don't know what happened. Tell them that it turned off during a system update and it's not turning on, and keep all that power user XDA knowledge locked away somewhere
Software update failures are pretty common so they won't ask many questions as long as the phone's under warranty, you might be charged a small service fee though. This is just one way I would go about it, there might be better options.

Sad to hear that but I guess u should try all available options before heading to the Service center like flashing stock firmware using Miflash tool in EDL mode. If nothing works then service center is the last resort, however IMO they will ask for small amount of fee for restoring the stock firmware.

It’s all good if it ends all well. However, I am more pleased with your second post. Tinkering Smartphone always seems too easy until it get completely screwed as it was in your case.
And speaking of Staff at service centre, they are just doing their job (though some of them do try to fool the customer seek some monetary benefits indirectly), not all of them are passionate about tech as u or people like us on XDA are. Anyways enough lecturing......
Good luck & Happy Flashing!!!!!
