Who says they didn't?
Perhaps the fruit markets should sue Apple for using their name. These lawsuits are getting out of hand.
I don't know why they are suing Samsung and not Google. It's like suing Dell for having Microsoft's Windows 7 infringing on one of their patents.

Good point. I understand Apple suing Samsung over the look of the tab 10.1 but this isnt Samsung's fault. It is a software issue so they should be suing Google. I don't see how Apple can win this case at all.

I don't think so, since they didn't patented it. but Google should be careful it's just a matter of time before Apple patent that too and sues Google over it!
they already were awarded the patent for Face unlock, we have to wait and see when they force Google to take it off from their products.

The would be such a f'ing Apple thing to do, steal someone else's idea, patent it, and then sue them for using it!
I really hate Apple
The difference is that Apple isn't going to go directly after Google. Why? Because Google would stomp them out of existence. It's the same reason Microsoft has been going after the various manufacturers for Android lawsuits instead of Google.
Google has nearly endless funds and controls a huge amount of the content that all of the other manufacturers utilize. Going after them would mean a death sentence for their products, as well as a huge portion of their companies. If Apple sued Google over a patent Google would bring history to the table, which would leave Apple/Microsoft without options.
In effect, they'd have the ability to almost shut down production of iPhones and Windows Mobile phones in the United States.

Apple is pathetic, they make their own rules and expect you to obey. Afterall, they did invent the smartphone right?
Iphone hasn't evolved at all in 4 generations imo. Now they're too busy with stopping competition by using the screwed up patent laws in the US, than to see that their innovation train has come to a complete stop.

Never used that feature to be honest, so it's a price I'm personally willing to pay to prevent a ban. I'm sure some people use it frequently, but I'd think even they'd agree that it's better than getting the phone banned. Ensuring the continual growth of this phone's user base is only beneficial for current owners.
I hope it gets reversed. Universal search is something Android does so nicely. Being able to go in the settings and decide which apps can be included for example IMDB or foursquare so you can initiate search/check-in without first going into the app itself.
I really hope that pending patent for Google in regards to notification drawer eventually goes through. Before iOS implemented that feature I heard quite a fair share of complaints from friends with iphones primarily about how annoying a bunch of pop up notifications can be.

I personally use the search-all feature a lot, both for quick contact access (have a couple hundrets of people in my People app) as well as for quick app launch (well, being an app junkie, swiping through all the launcher pages eats hell lotta time) and for web search as well.
As far as I remember, search-all feature was available in old Symbian phones as well, and some implementations were also available in WinMo. How could this be patented by the fruit-company? Getting more and more tired of not-so-brilliant judges granting dumb bans. Judges should cancel dumb patents instead!
(like rectangular shape patent!! how come one can patent a RECTANGULAR SHAPE?! Slide to unlock - ok, nice feature, but how come anyone could grant as generic patent as "unlocking by dragging one object along path to a specific position"?!)
I can't wait for the day Apple looses its cool with the worlds sheep population. And I hope some big company sues the absolute **** out of apple.

I totally agree. I'm not a patent lawyer and I don't know the history completely of mobile devices - but - it does seem that older devices had this search-all-content feature before Apple ever did. Remember, Apple implemented this feature back in the 3G days I beleive which was in 2008. Hell, I think the 8320 Blackberry had this feature if I'm not mistaken and was released in 2007 - I'll dig my old BB 8320 out and look for this.
Now, if Apple ultimately wins this case it WILL set a precedent for future cases and allow them to win more easily if they decide to pursue other handset makers. I personally think Google should just include the web-search only interface/widget and then offer up another Search-All widget in the market which would then overwrite the current one installed.
I wonder if this means that we will no longer be able to do things like initiate a text message or a call by voice. I sure hope not, because I use these features almost daily. It really is a shame that Apple has to have such ridiculous anticompetitive practices. Without competition, everyone will lose in the end.

I occasionally use search and see the results returned from all phone items. While handy and not directly used, I do like this.
My hope is that Samsung does nothing until the trial. If it works the way I have read, any logical design or function can be contested in patent disputes. (E.g. rectangular phone, search means search...not just web search).
This approach protects competitors who are in the same business and work toward logical design. Note that this is my interpretation of what I read and by no means fact.

With the piss ants win this could possibly lead to there phones being banned in the U. S. Watching the news they were saying the judge in around 3 weeks from now can possibly stop all sales on galaxy devices in the U.S. Should I run out and use my upgrade or is this highly unlikely and the cry baby's won't get there way again. Maybe I'm being paranoid but the way they made it sound on the news made it seem like it's possible. Appeals are in the works and they are planning for multiple scenarios. This won't go down easy. There was an article somewhere saying that this was the best exposure for Samsung in terms of advertising because people are able to see that if the Samsung and iPhone products are the same and they can get the Samsung for cheaper, they will opt for cheaper.

What I don't understand is how the Jury was so proud that they did not read the instructions from the judge and went ahead to fill out 700 questions is less than 2.5 days,
I thought the entire point of a jury was to deliberate and come to a conclusion based on the evidence presented. The jury also stated they wanted to set a precedent and make an example of out Samsung, I wonder ho many of the use Ipads and Iphones...a Jury's job isn't to make an example but be fair and unbiased.
Sounds like the jury was pretty damn biased to me, there are a lot of legal experts saying that this will be overturned maybe even in this trial based on the jury's behavior. If not this trial, then most definitely the appeals court should overturn their verdict.
Essentially everything Lucky Koh does, the appeals court overturns.
I think Samsung should sue the US Patent Office, clearly they didn't check anything before granting useless patent after patent.
Probably some idiot working there who just check to see if all the boxes were checked and the paperwork was their, then they granted based on that.
How else can anyone say a rectangle with curved corners is patent-able
Alright enough with the rant.

Apple makes great products, they innovate and when they don't they compensate with their design, packaging, marketing and branding which is world class, appealing even sexy. Then they start dictating what you can and cannot do with their stuff, after you've paid a premium price for it, and that's where they lose me.

Uuuuh, 2 huge things I can think of off the top of my head.
1. Only allowed to download Apple approved apps from the app store, no side loading.
2. Entire file system is not accessible by the user.
Just these two put up some huge barriers for people who want to do whatever they want with the hardware, and furthers the idea that they only let you do what they want you to do.
Bought HTC or blackberry. What do you guys think? How would it change the industry. Makes me wonder why have Samsung not bought a smaller Mobile maker

RIM has no intention of selling as if yet and when they do they'll likely split the company up.
Obtaining the patents for the enterprise software would be the way to go. To hell with the hardware.
Having that advantage for capturing enterprise customers with secure exchange email would be exactly what android needs.

enterprise features. I for one would welcome it
Something that seemingly everyone in the tech industry is forgetting (most of all Apple), is that competition is a very good and healthy thing and indicative of a thriving industry and economy. I don't like seeing companies fail, or being bought out. It just means there is one less option for me, even if the company continues to manufacture. I like having options as to who I buy from.
I hate Apple products, but I like knowing they're there innovating and coming up with new things. Like it or not they're helping to drive the industry to further innovate by forcing the competition to... well, compete, to stay relevant. That is what I mean by my original statement. Steve Jobs wanted to "crush" Android, and they're doing their damndest with these BS patent lawsuits; what they don't realize (or don't care about) is that Android sometimes helps to boost their business, and vice versa. Same goes for Windows Phone, RIM with Blackberry, and Nokia with Symbian (before the commit to Windows Phone). There is a reason (actually many reasons) I have commited to never buying an Apple product ever again.
Patents are useful, there is no doubt, but there is a line which we have crossed.
yeah that did i think
if it real. it's have interest
What RIM/Blackberry is still relevant up until now is their superior enterprise features... BES, for example.
If Samsung did acquire RIM, they would then have capabilities of pushing secure and enterprise friendly smartphones. When that happens they will certainly grab a quite significant marketshare in that part of the phone industry.
Problem is, if competition drives innovation and progress, RIM isn't making as much effort now because they are heading to bankruptcy soon. If they stay or go away, it won't make much effect to any of they competitors now.
If RIM still wants to stay in the game (the executive at least), they'll either have to make something quick or else they'll loose their job and company. That won't look good in their resume either.
Rim will never go into bankruptcy at all. They will sell before that or just stay in the enterprise business and get out of the phone business.....imho
If Samsung wanted to get into the enterprise market I think they could develop similar enterprise features without violating any patents.
