Perhaps the fruit markets should sue Apple for using their name. These lawsuits are getting out of hand.

Good point. I understand Apple suing Samsung over the look of the tab 10.1 but this isnt Samsung's fault. It is a software issue so they should be suing Google. I don't see how Apple can win this case at all.

The difference is that Apple isn't going to go directly after Google. Why? Because Google would stomp them out of existence. It's the same reason Microsoft has been going after the various manufacturers for Android lawsuits instead of Google.
Google has nearly endless funds and controls a huge amount of the content that all of the other manufacturers utilize. Going after them would mean a death sentence for their products, as well as a huge portion of their companies. If Apple sued Google over a patent Google would bring history to the table, which would leave Apple/Microsoft without options.
In effect, they'd have the ability to almost shut down production of iPhones and Windows Mobile phones in the United States.

Apple is pathetic, they make their own rules and expect you to obey. Afterall, they did invent the smartphone right?
Iphone hasn't evolved at all in 4 generations imo. Now they're too busy with stopping competition by using the screwed up patent laws in the US, than to see that their innovation train has come to a complete stop.
I used to respect Apple for their innovation. But now, I'm pretty close to sledge my old 2g ipod touch, who's only purpose is to play Spotify on my stereo.

Apple has once again called Samsung into court. This time it's about the Galaxy Nexus and four patents that Apple says it infringes. The patents in question are:
U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647: a patent for data being used as a hyperlink
U.S. Patent No. 8,086,604: a unified search patent

U.S. Patent No. 8,074,172: a word completion patent*
Apple is requesting that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus be blocked from sale in the United States because it violates these patents. *Should the court find in favor of Apple, a ban against the Galaxy Nexus would be put in effect until the final court decision. *
Could it happen? Certainly. But if it does, it won't go into effect any time soon, it would only affect stores inside the U.S. selling these products, and no jack-booted thugs from Cupertino will come pry your Nexus from your hands. I would have def posted there if I had seen it, I searched using dif key words. However that is irrelevant now. The thread you linked got no attention at all, except for one guy who confused it for the old story that did NOT pertain to the US. Once again I would like to ask, do you have an opinion? It seams to me Apple is holding up the progress of technology by acquiring their products in court and not in the lab or whatever. Well it was shot down over seas, but here in the US who knows. I would say you will hear about the progress and if it seams you need to buy one quickly you can. And there is always importing in case of a worst case scenario.
What I am most confused about is why is Google not patenting their own work!? I don't get it, they see what Apple is doing yet they seam unwilling to protect their own asses? Are they being wreckless or stupid or..?

That is the link/ body of text from the OP?. I don't fully understand patents and law but am very interested. The best I can do is state my personal opinions, which I think I have made clear already. I personally think it is a toss up whether Apple has a chance and this is just a way for them to cash in, slow Google and others progress and a way to bully others and steal once again. I think any of the four patents being infringed on should not belong to a apple or any other company either. Let's make progress not slow progress by bickering in court who owns the right to hyperlinks. Amirite?

Apple hasn't come up with much new since the iPhone 2g, they came out with a bang and stopped dead in their tracks. All they're doing now is putting speed bumps in front of all of those whizzing by them.

100% agree with that statement and i say it to my brother who has an iphone 4s all the time.
My brother has owned every iphone since they were launched and will defend apple to the end of time.
Apple came out with a great phone to begin with, but have since not really come out with anything completely innovative which has completely changed ios.
Still the same old launcher of icons after icons... same lock screen blah blah blah.
If you look at an origional iphone and then look at an iphone 4s theres not really anything other than the speed improvements that makes you think wow apple has come a long way with the software... ( other than the notifacation bar they added... wonder where they got that idea from ).
Apple need to man up and stop throwing law suits around and come up with some new ideas.
All this does is slow down progress for everybody.
Oh btw... Where do iphones get most of there parts from? Oh thats right... SAMSUNG!!!!
Apple can't sue software, they can only sue the hardware manufacturer. That is why they sued Samsung instead of Google.

It's not going to fly. It's a publicity stunt, based around an ironic company. The same company that uses competition and capitalism to exploit workers around the world to build it's products cheaply (Apple), refuses to abide by capitalism when it finally faces some competition (Apple again).
They have no case, regardless of what a legal expert says. The United States hardly, hardly ever bans the sale of any product, even if there is a pending case against patent infringements. Remember the multi-touch cases? Unless Google literally stole the product from Apple, it won't fly. Besides, knowing this case was still going on, why would anyone continue to manufacture a product that couldn't be sold?

It's funny how Apple goes after Samsung and not Google. My guess is they are trying to set precedence with a weaker legal team before going after Google. I wouldn't be completely shocked if Google stuck it's nose in and helped out Samsung.

Not really. Even if Samsung are selling more units than Apple at the moment (which I somewhat doubt), their profits are nowhere near.
I don't know why Apple continue all this legal activity. The iPhone is the closest thing to a money-printing machine that there is.
Picking up a Samsung soon, this kinda crap just re enforces my determination not too own anything with an apple logo on it,apple are nothing but petty tech Taliban who would curb freedom of choice just too sell one more of there flawed devices.

It's not their fault. The patent suits are very tempting and they already own the "Slide to Unlock", don't they?
If Google got the patent for drop down notifications, or Samsung slide up to reject and send sms or HTC to slide to camera. and many many many others, I promise you, there wouldn't even be an iPhone 5.
They have been stealing ideas from Android for 2 years now. I even think that on the first day of the keynote, instead of announcing what's new with Android, they should have announced the new features in iOS 7, hahaha...
It's Google and the other companies faults. They didn't care about the patents but Apple was smarter than them. They even got the patent for "Slide to Unlock" after 2 or 3 years from the announcement. And the funny think, it was already in other phones.

This is why I don't own a single apple anything and never will, I had the original iPhone and a Mac mini and aio Mac desktop back so long ago in the mid 2000s and i will never purchase another apple product ever. When i walk by the big apple store in international plaza I just wanna go in and take a dump in the window display. Buncha greedy, self centered, monopolistic pricks is all they are. This is true, but apple is dicking around with a huge source of samsungs revenue and Samsung doesn't need apple to survive. If apple keeps playing with fire, they will burn their bridge and Samsung will use the mfg of crapples parts as leverage against them. And apple only attacks mfgs cuz they know Google will crush them in court. If or when (more likely when) the mfgs and Google team up against apple, apple will end up bankrupting themselves trying to sue a force much much bigger than them on the global scale. Just think what will happen if apple is forced to only sell in the US, they don't own global patents so Samsung, HTC, and Motorola can take them to court in other countries and shut them down

There's a difference between being popular and innovative.
They are just popular, and whatever they do, becomes famous and an innovation. But it isn't.
Microsoft built the first tablet. And before the iPhone there were the Nokia smartphones. They just made them popular and said they invented that "innovative" product.
You're confusing innovation with invention. Apple are, without doubt, a very innovative company. Anyone who says otherwise is deluded.

Yes, they sucked. But this shows that Apple did't invent them. They took the idea and improved it, just like Google is doing.

This could spell the end for Android and this phone, and I will not be a happy camper if I can't upgrade to the S3 because of Apple... I will throw a major tantrum! But they can ban the Galaxy S, Epic Touch, and S3, along with any and all other android manufacturers... The government will fix this hopefully...

I am not saying this will happen, but is quite possible if the government doesn't block Apple in their tracks from doing so... (I think once Google Appeals, these parents will be made standard for touchscreens...)

and a very poor ruling by a judge. most of those patents won't hold.
Android is not going anywhere.
With apples iphone sales slowly declining and losing loyal customers, I don't see this being an issue...not just with the phones, I am reading alot of fanboys upset about the new mbp and how everythings soldered down making it near impossible to upgrade or repair....
Apple will fight tooth and nail saying that other companies stealing patents are the reason they are losing business, but they are really doing it to themselves being greedy.

It's just the basic forms of technological evolution. We've seen what phone such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 brought, they bring so much more than the iPhone 4S or maybe even the rumored "iPhone 5". Like honestly Apple is slowly becoming a monopoly, if anyone knows history Standard Oil was seperated into different oil industries because of actions that were harmful to the consumer/ government/ and other industries. Apple, being a large company, would try to take out any sort of competition that would "try" to honestly throttle their sales of their product. Customers all don't want to be tied down to a single phone. Just like people have different tastes in food, clothing, and other marketed products, they will also continue to have different taste in phones as well. It saddens me because my first phone was an iPhone (1st Gen) (I was 17 at the time) and I was proud to have it. But after seeing other phones that bring better features and finally ended up getting better and more phones that have better use to me. I get disgusted by the fact that Apple is using tactics to obliterate competition. Tactics that will not only hurt the industry such as Samsung, but also the consumer because I am 100% sure that this Android community will want to have iPhones only. So overall Apple....to me is becoming a monopoly, it's just slowly becoming one and won't stop bringing others to court until the iPhone is in everyone's grasp.

What ever happened with that patent that Palm had for the phone app? It was rumored that if that was ever brought to court all iphones would just become ipods.
The second it gets in my grasp, I'll be throwing into moving traffic...
But Apple is just evil in what they are doing to Android... I really don't like it, and for once I feel bad for Windows Phone...
Remember, there are touchscreen BlackBerrys... If Apple sues RIM, it's over for them...
If I might add, if an iPhone gets in my grasp, it better be a quadcore phone with a 4.8" screen, Gorilla Glass, and Android Key Lime Pie or Kandy Kane running flawlessly with 4G LTE, as if that will ever happen...
I bet money that these patents will be invalidated soon. Why? Because theres no way that the government can allow apple to monopolize the smartphone business. Ill happily stick with my s2/s3 the rest of my life if they dont get invalidated

apple is a lost cause.. epic in the era of steve jobs and now trying to stop the giant that is google to survive.. even if apple wins, there will be millions of android users across the world that would defend google. open source is the future, google will never die.. if anything google will be forced to come out with something even better than a "touchscreen" smartphone.. either way apple is against the ropes and probably losing fast as far as the long run looks.. apple is in the shadow of blackberry, destined to fail

Doesn't Google have it's own arsenal of patents it owns from Motorola mobility... as in first cell phone. If Apple doesn't play with Google, they could say "fine... you don't want us to have a touch screen... you don't get to have a cell phone."
