Apple going after Galaxy Nexus.

Did anyone happen to read the article on Tech Radar about Apple filing suit against the Galaxy Nexus? They are filing for the fact that it uses...get this......slide to unlock that Apple was awarded a few weeks back....LOL. Thoughts?

Who says they didn't?

Perhaps the fruit markets should sue Apple for using their name. These lawsuits are getting out of hand.

I don't know why they are suing Samsung and not Google. It's like suing Dell for having Microsoft's Windows 7 infringing on one of their patents.

Good point. I understand Apple suing Samsung over the look of the tab 10.1 but this isnt Samsung's fault. It is a software issue so they should be suing Google. I don't see how Apple can win this case at all.

I don't think so, since they didn't patented it. but Google should be careful it's just a matter of time before Apple patent that too and sues Google over it!
they already were awarded the patent for Face unlock, we have to wait and see when they force Google to take it off from their products.

The would be such a f'ing Apple thing to do, steal someone else's idea, patent it, and then sue them for using it!
I really hate Apple

The difference is that Apple isn't going to go directly after Google. Why? Because Google would stomp them out of existence. It's the same reason Microsoft has been going after the various manufacturers for Android lawsuits instead of Google.
Google has nearly endless funds and controls a huge amount of the content that all of the other manufacturers utilize. Going after them would mean a death sentence for their products, as well as a huge portion of their companies. If Apple sued Google over a patent Google would bring history to the table, which would leave Apple/Microsoft without options.
In effect, they'd have the ability to almost shut down production of iPhones and Windows Mobile phones in the United States.

Apple is pathetic, they make their own rules and expect you to obey. Afterall, they did invent the smartphone right?
Iphone hasn't evolved at all in 4 generations imo. Now they're too busy with stopping competition by using the screwed up patent laws in the US, than to see that their innovation train has come to a complete stop.
I used to respect Apple for their innovation. But now, I'm pretty close to sledge my old 2g ipod touch, who's only purpose is to play Spotify on my stereo.

It's not their fault. The patent suits are very tempting and they already own the "Slide to Unlock", don't they?
If Google got the patent for drop down notifications, or Samsung slide up to reject and send sms or HTC to slide to camera. and many many many others, I promise you, there wouldn't even be an iPhone 5.
They have been stealing ideas from Android for 2 years now. I even think that on the first day of the keynote, instead of announcing what's new with Android, they should have announced the new features in iOS 7, hahaha...
It's Google and the other companies faults. They didn't care about the patents but Apple was smarter than them. They even got the patent for "Slide to Unlock" after 2 or 3 years from the announcement. And the funny think, it was already in other phones.
Hope this turns out fine anyways...

This is why I don't own a single apple anything and never will, I had the original iPhone and a Mac mini and aio Mac desktop back so long ago in the mid 2000s and i will never purchase another apple product ever. When i walk by the big apple store in international plaza I just wanna go in and take a dump in the window display. Buncha greedy, self centered, monopolistic pricks is all they are. They don't deserve my money with their shiester tactics.

Yeah, apple must really be insecure about it's "innovation" to patent troll the competition like this.
The government should be telling apple to find something more productive to do with its lawyers.
Also, if I were Google I'd simply ignore the ban and keep selling directly. If that's an issue, fine I guess "ban" the use of Google voice in the USA and tell folks to complain to apple about it's trolling.

What's really gonna be interesting, Samsung makes alot of crapples parts including the "retina" display. Samsung makes both the galaxy line and nexus line, who's gonna make apples parts now? Its not very smart to hit your supplier in the pocket, they cut u off quick.

This is true, but apple is dicking around with a huge source of samsungs revenue and Samsung doesn't need apple to survive. If apple keeps playing with fire, they will burn their bridge and Samsung will use the mfg of crapples parts as leverage against them. And apple only attacks mfgs cuz they know Google will crush them in court. If or when (more likely when) the mfgs and Google team up against apple, apple will end up bankrupting themselves trying to sue a force much much bigger than them on the global scale. Just think what will happen if apple is forced to only sell in the US, they don't own global patents so Samsung, HTC, and Motorola can take them to court in other countries and shut them down

Why does everyone hate everything apple?

I own an android phone. I've always owned android stuff I don't like iOS but I don't sit there going crapple this crapple that. Iphones have their place my step dad asked me what phone to get I said iPhone because its just easier same with my mom. They are still good phones. Yea apple is run by douchebags but that's not the point in this post. Why is it if I love Android I have to hate iOS? I mean I love my Xbox I don't hate PlayStation. Don't hate so much. /rant

Agreed apple create this illusion of eliteness (if that is even a word) with their OS and products. For example Facetime only for iphone users.... what the hell is wrong with skype. But overall I don't hate apple they make some good stuff.

OK... I've seen douchery from Android users too... so don't be throwing stones in glass houses. It happens in every sector where there's two or more predominant or prevailing standards. People are people, and don't always consider that the opposite camp is full of people too.
As for what Apple's business practices, they've become more like corporate America and it's only this visible because it's become a clash of titans in the market. Patent lawsuits happen ALL THE TIME. It shows up more for us because we're swimming in the same waters as the players in the lawsuits.
All that being said, I have both. I love both for very different reasons and the pro's/con's comparison chart has polar opposites on most individual items with some overlap. But I'm not a fan boy of either since I put my douchery baton in the trash many years ago... we all should.

Its how they do buisness, the iPhone is good, youd be stupid to say its a heap of trash but its just their buissness style. No problem with Apple products. As far as they go, fine. They do it well. I have an issue with Apple as a company, their patent system which almost seems to be based on bribes and greed, the almost stomach churning fanbase and the awful closed system where 99% of content is forced through iTunes.

this is also true, but im more talking about a feeling of being elite just because of a product. it is more apparent with apple users from my observation.
apple is also lawsuit happy right now, which i also detest

A lot of it comes from apple users thinking they're doing stuff symbian, palm and blackberry owners have been doing for awhile. And then apple itself makes it worse with some of the patents like they really did invent smart phones.

i never said the iphone was a piece of trash. i dont mind it, but its not for me personally.

I like the build quality (not the design, glass on the back of the phone? really?) and how polished the OS is. However I had to use ios5 as a replacent as my GNEX was out for repairs and that was easily the worst month of my life as far as communications was concerned. Apple phones are not for myself, I would not trade my macbook air for anything else in the world tho.

I xx'th that; in addition, iProducts simply does not fit my requirements: local ogg vorbis support (nearly 10000 of home made audio files are in vorbis), removable battery (I have to switch battery at least twice a day), no direct download from app, cloud, and FTP, no AWS HSPA (don't ask me to switch elsewhere for iProducts, and..."back button" is not always available (app switch button on 3.x and 4.x is pretty handy).

I had an iPhone 4. To be honest I liked it a lot. But for an advanced user its so basic and restrictive its suffocating.
I agree. IPhone is a pick up and go device. A lot of people, even most Android users use the phones as they are. And to be honest the iPhone is more user friendly then Android. Which is good for people that aren't electronically inclined or older folk that want to stay up to date with modern technology without complexity. Same for people that buy dells or HPs. They want to pick it up and use it as it is. They don't care about updating software, drivers, firmware, hardware.
On the topic of patent battles. This is a chance for Samsung and Google to show the open source community and the general public what innovation is all about.

I used to own 2 iPods, 2 iPod Touch and still have the original iPhone somewhere in my house.
They really did make awesome products back then but then they just stopped trying and shift their attention to stop everyone else from trying to innovate.
We all know the core idea of innovation is to take an existing idea/concept and make it better.

I read somewhere on here last year or this year to date (forget which) they spent more on lawyers than on research and design and then claim to be an innovative company. Bollocks to that

Besides all of my usual hatred comments about Apple, I read something in the most recent Wired magazine that really made me think. Its no secret about Jobs/Apple stealing ideas from the market and using them as if they were his/their own, but what about how Jobs was always stealing his own employees ideas and saying they were his own. Can you imagine if one of those Apple employee's became disgruntled and switched sides? Now that would be awesome!

Here's another thought on the matter. When will there be a antitrust lawsuit against Apple?

I have a number of family and friends with iPhones... I just hope one day they realize how ridiculously proprietary and bad apple is and how bad they are with trying to monopolize everything and understand how much better android is ... iPhone is for the people that just don't care or aren't intelligent enough to know how to handle android.

Also with the whole Apple vs Samsung thing, if it wasn't for the Samsung's SoCs they used through the 3GS (and collaborated with for the A4), the iPhone wouldn't even be where it is today!
Heck, since Samsung manufactures the A4, A5, A5X for Apple, they should just tell Apple to f off and make their own damn chips.

this whole 'apple v everything else' war is kinda like 'republicans/conservatives v democrats/liberals' when you think about it.

It is not a pos, it is a great phone. Android also has some great phones. But the two are great for different reasons. It is a matter of choice, and consumer choice should rule, not litigation.

If someone without a clue of technology asks me what phone they should buy, i hesitate to say Android, because it needs more effort and intelligence to set the phone up... I would have been inclined to agree with you 4 years ago...now, not so much. Android is painfully easy now. In fact, a lot of things are even easier than iOS until Apple steals more "innovations" from Android and Windows Phone for iOS 6.

Apple makes great products, they innovate and when they don't they compensate with their design, packaging, marketing and branding which is world class, appealing even sexy. Then they start dictating what you can and cannot do with their stuff, after you've paid a premium price for it, and that's where they lose me.

I'd have to disagree on this, My mom had no issues picking up a MyTouch 3g and using it. Only thing she had to get use to was using a touch screen and it took her all of 2 weeks to get use to using a touch screen. She easily setup a password, sync'd her contacts, added music, etc. and that was on android 1.6

Uuuuh, 2 huge things I can think of off the top of my head.
1. Only allowed to download Apple approved apps from the app store, no side loading.
2. Entire file system is not accessible by the user.
Just these two put up some huge barriers for people who want to do whatever they want with the hardware, and furthers the idea that they only let you do what they want you to do.
