I rooted my Sprint Galaxy S3 mostly so that I could have the Wifi Tether app. I just got it and want to experience the regular galaxy operating system for now. I will not load a custom rom on there for quite a while probably. Is there a way to backup my system as it is now (rooted with no custom rom)? Can I use Clockwork Mod ROM manager or Titanium backup? I want to be able to come back to this exact set up with my apps and operating system if something goes wrong or I decide later to do a custom rom and want to return back to stock. Also, when I do make a backup, what is the best way to recover that back up? Titanium Backup is a good way to get rid of some of the apps that come on the phone such as Sprint tether and all the other samsung/sprint stuff, right? Thanks for your help.
Yes using clockwork to make a nandroid backup will pretty much store a carbon copy of your phone as it as at the time of the backup

hello,
despite asking a million questions about the process, i still haven't rooted, so my phone is as stock as stock gets. anyways so my girlfriend plays frozen bubble on my phone and she is at lvl 70 and she really wants to continue that even after the phone updates to froyo. so is there any way i can back the state of this particular app with all its settings and whatnot and restore it..
i dont want to save all my apps because i would much rather start customizing a clean phone, i just want to save this one app.
how do i do it?
thanks.

i just rooted and then turned S-OFF
now im about to remove some apps, then i will install titanium backup, backup this one app, and then restore the stock recovery.
Let it backup everything as it is.
You don't have to restore everything. You can use it to restore just one app if you want.
That way, if you remove the wrong thing you can restore it.
Hiya I need help im rooted already I just need to ask when im backing my Apps with titanium back up do I back all system Apps aswell? Im still on standard rom with all the blur stuff.

If you plan to stay on same ROM. If not you don't need to a it will cause conflict
Got a Headache? It's all in your Head.
I used Titanium Backup before I switched to CM7 (note, CM7 had no market for me at first, I had to install it manually from here[url].)
Currently restoring all apps and system data. I backed up everything. Hope it works
I've used several different roms since I got my defy last February and I'm so glad I have Titanium Backup. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a backup solution on their android phone.
Thanks for the replys im going to put cm rom on but my question was in titanium app do I need to back up all the system Apps and my game Apps before I put c.m rom on. I would of thought that I wouldn't need all the motorola system when im putting cm on.

I was just wondering if anyone might be able to assist me with how to save the progress or save file from a particular game?
I want to do the OTA or maybe even install the AOSP rom from the AT&T section, but do not want to loose my place in Cut The Rope (yes, I am lame, lol)
You won't loose any data with the OTA.

If you're unrooted stock and you get the OTA, you won't lose the data.
If you're going to install the AOSP, you'll have to be rooted. What I would do then is root the phone, get titanium backup, back up cut the rope and any other games you want to save, then install the custom rom. Once you're done there, reinstall titanium backup and then restore cut the rope. Done.
so all i do is a regular backup like titanium or apps2zip or watever and when restoring them, the save game progress will be restored as well? I am rooted, but cannot get OTA because I am modified, so I want to go back to completely stock by using odin my original image, and going from there...
or do you guys suggest waiting until there is a ODEXED version available of the OTA update?
yup. titanium backup will save your backups in a separate folder in the sdcard (which you can certainly export out to the external sdcard or throw it in dropbox). When you restore using titanium backup, tell it to restore apps and data, and you're done.
Thanks
I'm not a flashaholic, but do from time to time especially when a new version of my favorite ROM is released. I was wondering what the easiest and quickest to restore my phone to the way it was before flashing the new ROM. I mean apps and launcher. I have Titanium and My Backup pro but it still takes a couple of hours of messing around to get back to normal. If anyone has a quicker way I'd love to hear it.

I assume you have a custom recovery installed since you mentioned flashing roms? If so, do a complete nandroid/backup (CWM/TWRP) of your phone just prior to flashing anything (good idea to do this prior to any flash). In TWRP, you can name your backup file so you can remember what rom/kernel/modem/recovery/etc you had at the time of this backup. Usually takes around 5-6 min to back up ~ 2Gb (and conversely, to restore). When you restore, do proper partition wipes first, then restore your desired backup... phone should be exactly as it was (apps, launchers, rom, settings, etc).
Thanks. I do use TWRP. I always nandroid back up before flashing a new rom. I guess I didn't understand what a nandroid backup was. I thought that it would reinstall all of the old stuff like the old rom and kernel in case the new rom borked something. So if I backup and flash a new rom and then nandroid restore, I will have the new rom and kernel with my apps and launcher intact? If so, then very cool.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the nandroid have the rom you backed up? Restoring that backup will wipe the new rom.
I use titanium backup as well and it takes me less than 5 minutes to go back to normal. Apps and launcher the same.

I got you... thought you were looking for a way to restore a complete previous setup (rom/kernel/radio/data/recovery) if you didn't like the rom you are on... sounds like you just want to restore /data partition (which can be done in TWRP)... but won't restore system partition apps (risky). If you are just looking to put your previous 'user' apps/data back, TiBu is an option (only restore "user" apps/data or "missing apps/data". I don't think TiBu will restore your widgets/launchers as the were, but you can individually (within the app) backup Apex, and Nova launcher settings and homescreens... then restore them after you're up and running on the new rom
I've had Titanium backup on my phone for a while now. The number of options/functions is a bit mind boggling on this app. So far I just used it for a basic complete backup and to freeze/unfreeze/uninstall/restore apps.
I don't have any backups scheduled yet. I also anticipate we'll probably get a JB 4.2 update this summer some time. Is there a guide anywhere on "best practices' for TB? I've spent dozens and dozens of hours tweaking this phone just right with all sorts of apps. My goal is after an update to have the least work/headache possible. I know many of the programs I'm using like Llama, WidgetLocker, Nova Launcher have their own settings backup I'll need to use to save to the SD card.
My phone is rooted but I plan to always stay on the stock ROM. I assume I will need to re-root then install TB and do a restore. Is this a simple one click operation, or even with TB am I probably going to run into problems and have to do a lot of re-config work? I don't even know if on an OS update TB can cause more problems than it solves so it's best to just start from scratch.
Thanks for the bone.
With Titanium Backup you can make a flashable .zip to restore your apps and data. I use this all the time and its quicker than restoring thru TiBu its self. I only zip apps since data can sometimes bork things up but its a handy feature

Does that mean I can make a full nandroid backup with tibu and be able to restore it without installing a custom recovery?

Not a nandroid.
Nandroid is your complete system backed up by a recovery
The flashable zip will just install your apps.
Look at it like GApps for CM10 or any other ROM.
Except its not Google Apps its your personal apps zip file.
And you will need a custom recovery.
