Lag ? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi
I am noticing that my s3 shows some appreciable lag , faint jerks all around
i can clearly notice that while playing subway surfers and in general here and there a jrky response ( thoigh faint ) but its there.
It aint that smooth as i have noticed with the S3 of a friend .
Is this piece defective or what ?
regards
BTW :
I tried stock LJ7 and stock MA4 both
currently on stock rooted LJ7 ( was trying to replicate the setup of my friend's phone )

That's kinda vague to be able to pinpoint what may be causing your lag... A number of things come to mind. The overall ROM and it's design, the kernel, over/under clocked, amount of RAM available... I'm pretty sure ur unit is not defective. Finding a ROM with the least amount of lag is a hunt. Every ROM is slightly diff so u gotta experiment. Not any set standards for getting rid of lag.

actually i am comparing a fresh LJ7 stock installation with a 1 month old LJ7 stock installation on 2 phones
by and large the stock roms show a similar response , but i feel mine is laggy and the one that my friend is using is pretty smooth and without lag.
I am kinna very very annoyed with this phone
1st it has a messed up weakest of the century radio
and then this lag ?
how would u explain this ?
regards and thanks for the reply

Apps you have running in the background, consuming your available ram. Your friends phone and yours are not set up identical and probably don't have the same exact apps. It's very hard to compare devices because each user has different apps and set ups. The only way to really compare is your do full factory wipe on both devices only install the one game and then compare.

[Q] Is there any ROM which is not luggin like an off

Hello friends! I'm not a noob but I'm in a very stupid situation! I was a user of SGSII for 5 month and today just bought my GNex. This phone is awesome however i noticed it has a lot of lugs here and there. To be honest we can't blame third party developers for lags in their apps cuz even Google's stock launcher is lugging like a sh*t (i mean app drawer for instance) I am very disappointed with this to be honest So, with my GSII i got used to speed and i'm not able to use the phone which lags so much like Gnex , i can return it in seven days but if i will flash somptin custom shop won't take it back that's why i cant try any custom ROms.....So plesase dear friends tell me if i flash something custom from iur developers section will i get rid of lags that we face in official 4.0.2?

If you browse through the forum, you'll see that most 4.0.3 roms don't have this lag. You can try one of them. I'm a big time CM supporter, but AOKP is also very nice.

Okay thanks! then i'll try ! So it turns to be a software problem not weaker hardware right?

Hi, this is what I've written just yesterday in another thread here on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22567913&postcount=80
I've got the same exact feelings as you have and really hope these lags and jitters are solved with newer versions of ICS.
I too have not noticed any lag from any rom, I'm sorry guys but I just don't see it. Maybe these ppl need to update to 4.0.3. Or stop comparing to their other galaxy devices
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Surely if using a 4.0.3 version solves the problem I'll be very happy.
Comparing a phone to another of the same level is normal and if one feels fluid and the other one jitters there must be something wrong or in the hardware or in optimizing the software.
I continue to think that a 1,2Ghz, 1GB RAM device should not have the slightest lag.

i am giving it a go now with HO!NO! kernel v5 and it is very quick and smooth. the ui kicks ass and shows off our nitro's glorious screen capabilities better than any other rom i've run and i've run them all. i've not got enough time with it to gauge the battery, it does force close when trying to access about phone in the settings.
it moves the notification bar to the bottom and makes the icons in it a bit bigger and much more legible, speaking of the nav bar, i like how this handles the notification drawer, very slick.
i recommend giving it a whirl, at least temporarily, just to see what the ui and graphics are like on the nitro HD.
:good:
OK, I took a plunge and I do like the result of it. Still on stock kernel though. Also I have no problem on settings->about, no FC, all sweet
Will stay on stock kernel for some time, will see if I jump to the V5 side

It was overheating on GB already, so nothing new here.. and a few people had same issue, so I even installed Ant Tu-Tu to under-clock to 1.3, so it would not burn hole in the pocket.
Ok, So far, so good, smooth install, Quadrant jumped from 2.3K to 3.2K, so I am happy.
Thanks Andasa, nice ROM

the v5 kernel is undervolted as well as being overclocked, not sure if that would help with the heat issue, the kernel does make it all run a bit snappier imo.
i wonder why i am getting the about phone fc, i even backed up this install, wiped all data and did a fresh & clean install and still get the about phone fc! no biggie though.
I installed kernel V5 and got Quadrant boosted to 3600, not bad at all, and that is at stock speed 1.52 Ggz
I am afraid to move it up, though, or it might melt from heat.
One thing I noticed that this ROM does not have Exchange service, so I had to find it in another post here on xda.
Battery drain is much higher than on GB, but I guess that was expected and talked over in many other posts.

The sad truth?

Is the sad truth that our phones will never be as smooth as it was while running gingerbread?
is it just me or will our phones ever live up to the stability of GB? I have used every ROM since I bought this phone..and GB is the "pinnacle" of software for our phone.
Now this is my first Android phone but is this the case with other phones? I.e. the software shipped with the phone is the best suited version.
Just trying to see if anyone feels the same way as I do...
Well the phone was built around that OS. Guess its like having a PC that came with XP and wanting to throw on a custom made Windows 8 OS on it.

I'll have to politely disagree
I actually have have my phone feel more smooth on ICS and even more smoother on jelly bean.. I was on ginger bread stock for the longest time before I found out about xda and my experience has been way better since then... I even reverted back recently to try a GB Rom and felt like my experience was still better on ICS /JB
But I understand where u coming from. Every one has different experiences

Sure, I agree that ICS and JB are way better than GB..much "sexier" to have. Matter fact, JB has sucked me back in to loving my phone. However, the argument is that no matter how hard the devs try, who do a damn good job, GB will be far and away the best OS for our phone. This includes stability, dependability and of course battery life, among other things :good:
Its not our phones fault sprint gave us a jacked ota :/
Gb wasn't always 'perfect' but ics, and eventually jb we'll most likely be just as pleasing as gb, If not more, with more features. Just give her time

I totally feel what your saying..cuz other phones on sprint have smooth stock ics other than ours..we can go back and fourth but the fact of the matter is samsung and sprint released a half a** update for ics ..and god bless the developers trying to improve the ics experiance!

I also agree that Ics does not match gb YET. But they are making progress fi03 has shown us hope of that. It looks a little smoother and showing major improvement I'm both battery and signal. So Sammy is listening and working to smooth out ics. Keep in mind that there is even a newer build that we don't have yet fi06 who knows whats fixed in that. And I am willing to bet we will get some more drops this month of they continue with this pattern . So let's try and stay optimistic Sammy definitely has the financial backing now to afford good support for there devices. And since the s2 is still selling very well Sammy is continuing support and with Motorola making such a public announcement about there jb support you know sammy is gonna compete with that. So even of ics doesn't become perfect they will probably get it right in jb. Either way a little patience and optimisim will go a long way the future looks bright for our phone.

I honestly never had an issue with ICS even with the past leaks besides the Wimax bug which is now fixed. Maybe phones have different effects to software. Idk but that emmc bug never affected me and I used the stock recovery to wipe more than once on several occasions lol..
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
You guys must not be doing clean installs with full wipes and just doing the ota update. I haven't had any issues with ICS or JB, but I always do a thorough wipe before flashing anything and I only use aosp based roms, like AOKP or PA. I'm not a fan of TWiz so I only run it long enough to do PrL and Profile updates  if you're having issues with ICS or JB I recommend doing a thorough wipe and then flash a rom and start fresh, left over data and incompatible apps can cause all kinds of issues. I think the only reason the carriers don't wipe data on OTAs is cuz its easier to listen to ppl ***** about the update sucking than it is to listen to em ***** the update erased all their games and apps . They should just force data wipe on OTA and use the Google sync function to restore most data after a clean install, but still people would complain they lost their texts and other assorted crap that if its honestly that important should be getting saved to their external SD cards anyways, cuz if the phone breaks you're gonna lose your sh!t atleast if its on the external SD you can salvage it

Yes I do every time. Try flashing back to el29 run it for a day or two then flash back to ics and tell me you don't see the difference. It's pretty night and day. I am willing most people that are satisfied with ics are either just happy that's it's a little but better than the ff18. **** we were given or aren't comparing it to el29 maybe cause they never ran it or it's been So long they forgot what it feels like. When you flash back to el29 coming from ics that actually feels like the upgrade. Especially on ph 4.1

This is my thought exactly. We had what, 3 or 4 official builds of GB before they got it right? And we are on number 2 for ICS.
And with that being said, I am not having any problems with ICS. The last two leaks are running great and I don't miss GB at all.
Everybody has there own experience and opinions, this is just mine.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I agree with the OP. GB was a much more stable experience. I've flashed dozens of roms both clean and keeping user data and while ICS/JB are definitely improvements to the OS feature-wise, they tend to fail at stability including bugs, battery life, reception, and performance. I've only found one ICS rom that has actually managed a better battery life than calk's EL29 GB and that's re-calked 1.9. As far as reception goes, I get 0-1 bar on ANY ICS/JB rom/kernel/modem combo I've tried here at work and I always get 1-3 bars on GB combos such as EL26 or EL29. Performance is much better on GB for the simple reason that there's less stuff and the improvements in OS efficiency are not enough to offset the increased resource usage of all those cool new features. I also have yet to find an ICS/JB rom that handles scrolling as well as GB... with 4.x when you scroll it's either manually by holding your finger and dragging slowly to pan down or it's superobnoxiously fast and you go from top to bottom but have a hard time scrolling to anywhere just shy of the top or bottom without manually panning to those points. On GB the scrolling is slower so on a long page it may take a while to get to the bottom but at least you can scroll to any point fairly easily once you get used to the scrolling speed. ICS/JB roms have bugs too... mostly minor little annoyances that aren't worth asking a dev to fix. App compatibility is another huge hit for 4.x roms as is the major wifi bug that every 4.x rom I've tried has had which causes the wifi to show as connected after a wakeup but you can't even access google.
Yes, there are certainly some features about ICS/JB which I really enjoy and this is why I keep flashing more roms in the hopes that maybe eventually I'll stumble across the perfect rom/kernel/modem combo to make my phone uber. Re-Calked 1.9 with Agat's 5.4 and FH23 has so far been a decent step in that direction but it's still not perfect as the wifi problem still exists and scrolling is still ICS scrolling but one of these days I'll find the perfect non-GB rom.
Well it seems some people arent understanding my post. Sure, cm9 is great. Ive been running pa cm10 for the past week cause its been so fun. But the best GB ROMs have given me the best experience even it wasn't as "fun"
Maybe idk how to flash properly or my phone sucks lol

Best rom for gaming and battery

I mean, i know, but in general there are some roms that are built for speed while others are built for the aesthetic component
I think you should read and learn about kernel and settings. This will enable you to set up your device for what you need it for. My son can drain his ipod in 2 hours if you don't mind that you can set your S3 to perform at a high level sacrificing battery life. Everything is possible, also if these games require data connection make sure you are on wifi or lte.

Easiest solution is Antivenom EP. It comes packed with KT747 and is lightly modified to save all those precious resources. Pick it up here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166121. I would do a factory reset, wipe system etc for a clean slate. It sounds like your lag is from something other than the current rom.
Also my s3 charging is very very long . About 5-6hours charging . My friend using i9300 and it charge full only 2h30'. I use my original caple and charger so can you guys tell me . On 3 room i have this situation . Stock lj7 , TPR and now goodness rom @@!
I get full charge in an hour or less. You are doing something wrong or your phone has something wrong with it. I would lean towards option 1 most likely.

[Q] Im in Afghanistan..don't flip out..need info on a new rom download

I know everybody hates to see questions about what ROM should I download.
Answer....try one out and see what you like.
I am now in Afghanistan (again..this sh&t of a country).
I have always used Android revolution up to v15 and v16 because I started having random FC and freezes that I never got before (I always do a clean wipe and install).
After the freezing issues in v15 and v16 that I saw other people complain about, I switched over to Omega v16. Not bad, it works.
Right after that I have been stationed back in Afghanistan. I barley even have bandwidth to download 1 (will take about 4 - 5 days let alone several).
I saw Android Revolution is on v17; don't know if it fixed the random freezes. Don't have the time to surf through comments right now. First time on internet in a week.
Sorry, I will get to the point...all I care about is that my S-pen still works, which I remember reading alot of the 4.2 roms did not have working. Is that still the case?
I would like to try a 4.2 rom, since Omega and Revolution are 4.1.2. I don't care about extra features...just long as the s-pen works, smooth and does not FC all time time on my apps. The only thing I use my Note 2 out here for is internet, taking notes during briefs (that is why I need s-pen function) and games (fifa and real racing 3).
One last time sorry I am asking about rom recommendations, I know it irritates people. But when I am lucky on a good day to get 20k a sec download, I don't have much choice; and that is when the army does not black the internet out every time something bad happens .
Thank you for all of your options.
Hi,
I see you are from America but it does not give you the right to say a country is a piece of crap.
Let's all have respect.
For your asking of stability and what I recommend, stay with a 4.1.2 TouchWiz based ROM.

Wow, you think me being from America, I am just another American being arrogant.
I did not say anything about the people being crap, some of the nicest and thankful people I have ever met; but this country has been torn apart because of War the last 30 years. I really hope the people here get a better life after everybody leaves, but I have a bad feeling that is not going to happen and the country will have a civil war.
But after being here for over a total of 2 years in the last 3 years, getting rocketed everyday, I am allowed to give my opinion; feel free to come visit as a tourist and let me know how it turns out for you and what you think of Afghanistan.
Generally its best to avoid the 4.2 roms because of greatly inferior battery life when compared to the samsung based 4.1.2 roms. Its pretty much the only downside to the 4.2 roms because they do feel slicker.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I assume you would also require better battery performances as in my case? I'm using Slimbeans ROM at the moment which is 4.2.2. Everything works great, its my daily driver and the level of customization prebuilt is all that I could ask for now. However, I don't get the battery life that I could get from a Stock based ROM. If youre alright with 5hours screen on time and 12hours between charges then go for Slim beans.
