Hello friends! I'm not a noob but I'm in a very stupid situation! I was a user of SGSII for 5 month and today just bought my GNex. This phone is awesome however i noticed it has a lot of lugs here and there. To be honest we can't blame third party developers for lags in their apps cuz even Google's stock launcher is lugging like a sh*t (i mean app drawer for instance) I am very disappointed with this to be honest So, with my GSII i got used to speed and i'm not able to use the phone which lags so much like Gnex , i can return it in seven days but if i will flash somptin custom shop won't take it back that's why i cant try any custom ROms.....So plesase dear friends tell me if i flash something custom from iur developers section will i get rid of lags that we face in official 4.0.2?

If you browse through the forum, you'll see that most 4.0.3 roms don't have this lag. You can try one of them. I'm a big time CM supporter, but AOKP is also very nice.
mbroeders
Okay thanks! then i'll try ! So it turns to be a software problem not weaker hardware right?
Don't use live wallpapers either if you are

Hi, this is what I've written just yesterday in another thread here on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22567913&postcount=80
I've got the same exact feelings as you have and really hope these lags and jitters are solved with newer versions of ICS.
I too have not noticed any lag from any rom, I'm sorry guys but I just don't see it. Maybe these ppl need to update to 4.0.3. Or stop comparing to their other galaxy devices
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Surely if using a 4.0.3 version solves the problem I'll be very happy.
Comparing a phone to another of the same level is normal and if one feels fluid and the other one jitters there must be something wrong or in the hardware or in optimizing the software.
I continue to think that a 1,2Ghz, 1GB RAM device should not have the slightest lag.

Hi, Im thinking of buying a gal.... but i was wondering some stuff,
1 : Is the phone good? Does it lagg and stuff like that.
2 : Is there many custom mods?
3 : What are the Good sides and the bad
Thanks in advance
Sry for my bad english, My grammer sucks
It's good, like it better than my old Galaxy S2.
Some mods, I haven't done much to mine though besides sticking in the sim card and exploring the phone.
Good sides - It's pretty awesome.
Bad - Screen rotation's slow on some apps..that's all I have so far.
Probably should have posted in the QA section.
Get it. I'm coming from iOS. Well, still use it. But this is the only phone I would use with android on a daily basis. Yeah there are cons, but overall no regret. Customizing, this is the phone u want. I predict this phone will only get better and be supported for a long time. Good luck with your decision

It's great.
But it is a dev. phone, expect some bugs.
Overall I love it, and I think it's relatively beg-free compared to my N1 when I got that one and my expectations.
It is a lovely phone.
Is the screen really bright and is the volume of notifications really loud ?
The build in speaker sucks pretty hard. You have to use apps like volume+ to be able to hear your notifications in a louder environment.
But the screen is simply awesome.
Oh, and ice cream sandwich too

1. yes, once in a while here and there
2. dont know, i dont use custom mod
3. 4g, ok screen. bad battery life.
I came from an HTC Evo 4G.
First thing that I STILL can't get over after a weeks time is the screen! it wows me every time I turn it on!
I have gotten the phone to lag at some points but that's when I'm pushing it pretty hard. That's not too bad because once I load an over clocked kernel on it the lag should be gone for good.
overall the phone is simply amazing! I think I'll still be very happy with my purchase even after all the big 2012 models are announced in the next couple of months.
can't go wrong with a nexus!
EDIT: the phone is very snappy! when I say I've gotten it to lag, I mean it's not that often and I'm really working the phone hard to see it stutter but that was normal use with my evo even with OC and CM7.1

Seriously? Ok screen? What screen is better? Btw, your Miley Cyrus profile pic makes me believe your sight ain't that great.
Signal issues and mtp are the only issues I'm having. The phone is smooth as butter. Best on the market right now.
Okay thanks going to buy it as soon as my local store got it in stock
Ok so I also want to get a nexus as a secondary device.(already have the sgs2 ics and loving it) Since the price is dropped to $350 I wouldnt mind shelling that out. So my main question is does the nexus prime still have some problems it did in the start, i.e. heating up, lag, live wallpaper lagging, battery issues or have these issues been fixed in Jellybean and or custom roms for the device?
I know there might be a little bias when answering the question as this is the nexus forum but can someone give me a blunt and honest answer.
Thanks alot.

I've never had heat, lag, or battery issues. You will dodge a lot of problems (like bad radios and battery life) by going with the GSM one.
Wallpaper lag is just part of ICS. They still lag in Jelly Bean but the launcher no longer lags with them. The launcher continues to be smooth, but the wallpapers behind it lag.
I loved MIUI on the HTC Desire, it was fast, stable and just worked.
However i have never heard many good things about it on the Galaxy Nexus, a lot of people say its slow and laggy. from watching most YouTube videos it does appear to be. What are people experiences with it?
The reason i ask is the ViciousMIUI V4.1 Jelly Bean Edition is supposed to be pretty fast and stable. Atleast in this video, however some comments say ". But compared to the stock Jelly Bean ROM (Vicious, Bugless, etc.) it is a lot slower and less fluid than JB. I was took forever to load and seemed kind of buggy to me."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqraqIUenOU
Just wondering if people think its worth going from stock jellybean to MIUI, i do like that everything on my phone just works at the moment, however i do miss MIUI.
Nandroid and try it then let us know.
I actually have tried MIUI on the Gnex. ICS as well as Jellybean. It is working ok, but as you say it's pretty laggy.
So if u love miui I would just try if I were you and then draw you're own conclusions. I have never tried it for a long time, so it's perfectly possible that when the rom settles it will solve the lagging issues.

I have only heard negative things from the ones who has tried MIUI. Buggy and laggy sums it up pretty much.
Heard good things used it for awhile and no problems with it. Minimal lag to me and I didn't have any bugs that bothered me.

Tried it and hated it
mainly because I don't like the UI, but it was pretty smooth and stable if that's what you're looking for.
Not recomended on the GNex...!!!
I loved MIUI on my Galaxy S i9000, in fact it was my favorite ROM on the SGS. but would not recommend it on the GNex...too laggy and you have more feature rich ROMs out there.
mmm
mmm
heard it's pretty and neat,
but kinda laggy atm in JB
OP: Why don't you just try it yourself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31621751
I did end up giving it ago myself, the build on miui.com was pretty laggy and was not totally in English.
The ViciousMIUI V4.1 build was a lot more responsive and had been totally translated from what i could see, it did'nt appear to be as fast as the stock jelly bean is on the nexus, however it did look really nice!
The double unlock screen is annoying though, its a shame you cant just disable the lock screen on MIUI if you have a swipe to unlock pattern set.
At this moment in time i'm just going to stick with the stock Jellybean rom, MIUI just doesn't perform like it did back in the 2.3 days sadly. Although it looks even more awesome and I do miss it after using it now!

Yep I agree... I was a serious MIUI fan back in my Nexus S days but MIUI on Galaxy Nexus makes me feel really bad about it. I downloaded it every week, flashed, then went back to CM. Until the last few versions (especially 2.9.14) that I feel it's getting good enough to be my daily driver :fingers-crossed:
Its nice. The newer releases are better and better. The only complaint I have is when an app is requesting root permission I have to click the dialog box like 6 times. No joke. That alone was a deal breaker for me

I personally don't like it because it looks too much like iOS. And it has no App Drawer -_-

Miui is a full ROM. What you are complaining about is only the launcher, which can be changed like any other.

I feel in a few months it could be there, it does appear a lot better now, I think stock Jellybean really has spoiled me.
I cant help but want the Mi 2 phone Xiomi are going to release, i would expect MIUI to work perfectly on it. However i dont really want to get rid of the Nexus, plus i dont really need a new phone too!
Fingers crossed it keeps improving!

That annoyed me too actually, however i could live with it as im not running apps that need root all the time. I would really like to just have the lock pattern to unlock my phone and not some fancy lock screen too, that's probably my only other deal breaker.
Hello, I just had a galaxy 551 for Christmas, I told my girlfriend to buy it for a gift, I prefer having a 70$ phone instead of a 500$ one and not panic when it slips out of my hand.
Like in computers, I like to get the best of my hardware. In computer it's simple, it's overclock, and maybe a few other tweaks. On Android, that's another story.
So now, the phone is on stock firmware (Froyo), rooted. I use Link2SD - App2SD a lot. But I want more I also feel like the phone is slow in comparison to the Galaxy GIO (S5660) which is on Gingerbread.
What would you suggest me? From what I see, any other ROM will have bugs. I may also lose my phone network connectivity, which is unacceptable in my situation. Cyanogen seems great, but what version should I try? And I can't find ROMS files on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526721 , they are all erased from the web sites.
Thanks for your suggestion!

Great ! Thank you for this information.
After a few months of having it I think many issues are due to skype. I installed the skype mod but I still have 2 main issues:
- Screen stays ON if I answer a call on my computer instead of the phone
- Complete OS freezes.
Hello again,
thank you so much for the information, I found the rom and the instructions, they were pretty straightforward and I couldn't be happier no more "Do I have the good file" issue. I started the process then I stopped at Gingerbread. I will try it and see how it goes. For now, I'm really happy to have the same features as my girlfriend.
I have a small question, is Cyanogen making the phone much faster compared to Gingerbread? I saw a benchmark on the net that is showing that the phone is twice as fast, is that true? If so, I will not wait to install CM7.2
I know everybody hates to see questions about what ROM should I download.
Answer....try one out and see what you like.
I am now in Afghanistan (again..this sh&t of a country).
I have always used Android revolution up to v15 and v16 because I started having random FC and freezes that I never got before (I always do a clean wipe and install).
After the freezing issues in v15 and v16 that I saw other people complain about, I switched over to Omega v16. Not bad, it works.
Right after that I have been stationed back in Afghanistan. I barley even have bandwidth to download 1 (will take about 4 - 5 days let alone several).
I saw Android Revolution is on v17; don't know if it fixed the random freezes. Don't have the time to surf through comments right now. First time on internet in a week.
Sorry, I will get to the point...all I care about is that my S-pen still works, which I remember reading alot of the 4.2 roms did not have working. Is that still the case?
I would like to try a 4.2 rom, since Omega and Revolution are 4.1.2. I don't care about extra features...just long as the s-pen works, smooth and does not FC all time time on my apps. The only thing I use my Note 2 out here for is internet, taking notes during briefs (that is why I need s-pen function) and games (fifa and real racing 3).
One last time sorry I am asking about rom recommendations, I know it irritates people. But when I am lucky on a good day to get 20k a sec download, I don't have much choice; and that is when the army does not black the internet out every time something bad happens .
Thank you for all of your options.
Hi,
I see you are from America but it does not give you the right to say a country is a piece of crap.
Let's all have respect.
For your asking of stability and what I recommend, stay with a 4.1.2 TouchWiz based ROM.

Wow, you think me being from America, I am just another American being arrogant.
I did not say anything about the people being crap, some of the nicest and thankful people I have ever met; but this country has been torn apart because of War the last 30 years. I really hope the people here get a better life after everybody leaves, but I have a bad feeling that is not going to happen and the country will have a civil war.
But after being here for over a total of 2 years in the last 3 years, getting rocketed everyday, I am allowed to give my opinion; feel free to come visit as a tourist and let me know how it turns out for you and what you think of Afghanistan.
Generally its best to avoid the 4.2 roms because of greatly inferior battery life when compared to the samsung based 4.1.2 roms. Its pretty much the only downside to the 4.2 roms because they do feel slicker.

I assume you would also require better battery performances as in my case? I'm using Slimbeans ROM at the moment which is 4.2.2. Everything works great, its my daily driver and the level of customization prebuilt is all that I could ask for now. However, I don't get the battery life that I could get from a Stock based ROM. If youre alright with 5hours screen on time and 12hours between charges then go for Slim beans.

Smoothness + Battery life is WanamLite without thinking, Good luck
