[Q] HTC Desire freezes and doesnt turn on - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I do have HTC Desire with stock rom 2.3
Problem is that for about last 2 -3 weeks phone keep freezes , and does not react to POWER button, or any other action, till I remove battery. When I put battery back it does not turn on.
It even does not go into bootloader.
When I remove battery again and plug charger , there is led is on just like with normal charging , but after when I push power button led is off and phone does not turn on.
Phone freezes when I do the phone call, use the web, wifi marker, gallery, , when booting on HTC logo, etc.
I thought it was the problem with android system, so I install revolutionary and CM7.2 , but I even had problem in bootloadre -> recovery / revolutionary. Phone keep freezing when system is not loaded yet. But I manage to install CM7.2 with success but phone still keep freezing when using the phone, on loading CM7.2 system, on HTC logo, in menu settings, in market with wifi, etc.
After freeze I remove battery and put it back and phone does not turn on, after 1h it starts up normal , but it get freeze again Sad
When I remove battery SD card slot and SIM card slot is little bit warmer.
What might be the problem ?
Please help, any tips or advices ?

Is it a PVT1 by any chance? Your phone is overheating. Try keeping it in the freezer for 10 minutes once in a while.

Hi, thanks for replay.
What it is this "PVT1" ?
If my phone is overheating is it problem with hardware some how ? mainboard , or battery ? Any tip how to resolve it ?

Boot in hboot ( while powered off, press and hold the power+voldown buttons until a white screen appeares) What pvt does it say at the top?
You may be having a motherboard problem, and PVT1's are known for overheating issues. Only way is to replace your motherboard.

Well, I have installed revolutionary and now it says :
-Revolutionary-
BRAVO EVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Aug 10 2010, 17:52:18
I have put phone into fridge for few minutes and phone has started with CM7.2 but after one minute has freeze back again and does not want to start up.
But I have take out battery for about 1 minute and put back and wait another minute and it start up, but freeze after when system is loading or when system is loaded when I try to access menu or what ever.
I have notice that touch screen is warmer on the same level where SD cars and sim card slots are.
I think it behaves just like PC when CPU is overheating.
Is it the battery that might cause this overheating ?
If so I will try to look for other new battery.
I don't know if it works but I don't have any other ideas.
I am still open for any tips or advices. Please help.

Hah.. check this out:

I believe the EVT designates an engineering prototype from HTC. Maybe a device that escaped from the labs some time ago, or perhaps some early Demo model? Or just ones that were sold cheaply to the public after some time.

So you're having a prototype. No wonder you're having problems.
You should go to a service.

Thanks for info, will call service and try to get more details about it.
One more thing, when my phone freezes and after it gets back running its date is reset to 06.01.1980 and time to 00:00
I have put it into a fridge for about 20-30 minutes and it is still running it is over 1h.
Is there anything else I could try out to fix the issue ?

[Q] HTC Desire CDMA troubles

Hello ,
My HTC Desire (CDMA) will not cold boot into the bootloader (the one with all the radio and Hboot stuff) , all it will do is vibrate 3 times and show a green notification light at the top and show a blank screen and when I press the power button after charging and leaving it alone for a few hours it gets stuck on the HTC boot screen for a full 8 hours
Can anyone please provide any info as why this is happening? Thxs in advance

What was the last thing you did before this started happening? Did you flash anything, drop it on a hard surface, anything like that? This sounds like a hardware problem almost.

Issues with booting (blinking orange LED)

Hi there,
I'm having strange issues with DHD. I've read a few threads with issues like this, but symptoms are always slightly different.
Yesterday, I've connected it to the charger (the battery was empty), and when I tried to turn it on, it just did 3 vibrations and orange notif. LED started blinking. When connected to the USB, the Windows recognizes device as Qualcomm, and further reading suggested that the phone is entering service mode, which is normally accessible with Power + Vol+. I've also found out that volume rocker can be the issue, but in my case I don't see anything wrong with it, it's working and looking like before.
No matter what I did, it always did the same, it won't even go into recovery (Power + Vol-), screen always stays blank, the only activity I'm getting are flashing LEDs and vibrations.
Also, phone is charging when turned off (battery removed and reinserted). I've charged it for a few hours yesterday and the green LED was on.
And finally, when turned off, and plugged into the USB, after few seconds, adb devices will show the device, and after the serial number it says recovery. Does that mean that the phone booted into the recovery? The screen is still black though.
So, the most important thing for me is to find out is it possible to return the phone back to stock, in order to send it for a repair. And even better, a solution for the problem
I believe its a hardware problem, although adb says its in recovery. Any more ibfo you could give us? ROM, how you rooted it etc?

thanks don't hurt ya know?
Take off battery, connect phone to charger via USB for 3 minutes ,than insert battery put battery cover now u should see orange light ,now press power button and voila
It's an issue with the volume rocker I think
Had a very similar issue when I had IceColdSandwich on my DHD, only started when I flashed that Rom, reflashed a different Rom, everything is fine again!

I'm not sure that the issue is with ROM, I'm starting to think that it's probably a hardware issue. And that's why I need to found out how to return everything to stock, and send it for warranty.
Try again it will work .may be leave it longer after you put the battery in like an hour .it should work after an hour press the power button

Today, i visit the service, flat cable and battery where reinserted and everything is normal now. You could try this method if you have a warranty. Best regards.

Thankyou so much after leaving phone in cupboard for like 5 years and forgot why it was on there I decided to plug it up. Then I remembered it wouldn't turn on and I was getting the orange blinking. After following your instructions it's all on again. Have upgraded since then so I guess this is a back up phone now lol

[Q] Working on bringing a Desire back to life!

Hi people,
Been a while since ive been in the desire forums and Im a bit out of touch with all things desire.
My situation is ive come across a desire that someone gave to me an said if I can fix it I can have it! Bonus.
Problem is in all my desire days ive never come across this (there are a few related tales on the internet but they mostly deal with S-ON devices).
So the phone wont boot, when you try to it just goes into the Hboot screen, even without pressing volume down?
once in the Hboot screen the phone is totally unresponsive? Volume rocker wont let me select options even the power button fails, to turn it off you have to battery pull.
The info on the Hboot screen is;
Alpharev N1 table
Bravo PVT4 Ship S-OFF
HBOOT- 6.93.1002
Radio- 5.11.05.14
I knew it was S-OFF already because I did it for the guy thats passed it to me know.
My First idea to get this working was to get a new alpharev hboot on there and see if it helped. Nope. Putting the PB99IMG on the sd card causes the phone to freeze on "parsing zip" "Bootloader 1" Left it alone to make sure it wasnt me being hastey but nope it didnt work.
Next I thought right lets get the Stock table on it and run a RUU. I would manually push the hboot via abd/fastboot. Nope. Because the phone wont boot into fastboot (using the back and power button combo) it still boots into Hboot!? So I tried to put it into Fastboot from ADB. Nope, ADB cant see it. A note on this is that I was a very proud owner of a desire and had set up adb for it ages ago. So why wasnt it seeing this one? I am 95% certain that he had usb debugging on on the phone. But when I plugged this one into my PC it couldnt install the driver for "Android 1"? WTF thats a galaxy nexus driver isnt it? anyways, found one and thats all installed so I know I have no missing drivers. The phone knows its plugged in because the Hboot changes to HBOOT USB PLUG.
Ive tried android flasher to send the Hboot and it just hangs at the "please wait while your device is flashed" point.
Does anyone else out there have any more ideas or is this desire a write off? In my past experiance these things were damn hard to totally brick?
Any ideas welcome. Many thanks in advance.
How did he get to this in the first place? was he trying to flash a ROM? or a hboot?

Nope said he was just using the phone as per usual then the next time he pulled it out of his pocket it was on the Hboot screen?
He isnt android literate so he doesnt mess about with it, he brings it to me for that kind of stuff.
In bootloader, can u choose recovery and boot into it?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Nope. Absolutly unresponsive volume rocker. Cant select anything from hboot menu. And even the power button is unresponsive, you have to battery pull to turn it off.
Another note to this saga: Ive tried an RUU but it dosent detect the phones plugged in.
Ive tried the freezer trick then RUU, that didnt work.
And now im even drying it out in rice just in case there is any moisture in the body.

think you should first rule out the simplest problems: electrical contacts inside the switches.
I had problems with the volume rocker due to dust collecting so you might want to press harder or clean it. I've done this more than once. At least you be sure there is not a mechanical problem (eg. a switch not working or a latched switch preventing the phone from registering the other buttons.).
GL
So. Had it in bits. Cleaned the terminal points between all buttons and made sure no sticking was present.
One final last plea to anyone who has any better ideas on how to fix this.
Thanks to everyone thats made a contribution.
Will a jaff box/jtag box fix these problems? Got a man that can standing by......

Constant Restarting

Hey guy
from a few day i am getting constant restarts on my desire no matter what rom i install
and also i am getting some strange toast notification to sign in on wifi network which upon clicking take me to some page in browser which has the address like 172.221.something and can't be access
i tried every major rom for desire
but the same problem appears on every rom
Any help would be appreciated
Do you have the PVT1 model? This version of the desire is prone to an overheating issue. Try putting the phone in the freezer for 10 minutes with the battery removed. Then take it out of the freezer, put the battery back in and boot it up. If it stays booted for longer than usual, the problem is likely an overheating motherboard.
Sent using xda premium
Nope
Got PVT3
and overheating's not the problem
Thankx for the reply though

[Q] Strange Sudden Death Problem

I bought my second hand HTC DHD almost a month ago. I used AAHK to unlock it, S-off and Sim unlock. But its really bugging me that whatever ROM I use (AOKP, CM, ARHD, Blackout) it keeps on shutting down on itself at least once a day. I had to press the power button to turn it on and it just do a normal reboot from black screen then everything goes to normal again. First, I thought its just a ROM or Kernel issue. But when it happens on every ROM I flash, that tells me that there's something else. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem. This is what my boot loader says:
HBOOT - 0.85.2425
MICROP-0438
RADIO - 26.17.14.11_M
Anything else you need to know?
Thanks a lot!

how would I know? most probably stock battery. I bought it second hand, but the battery runs well. I tried pressing the battery cover in all areas to see if its a connection problem, esp the one above the + sign. Nothing happened. The sudden death usually occurs during the day when Im not using my phone. Do you think its hardware?

Personally, my first guess would be an old battery, so my first move would be to try another battery.

Or try it with the phone connected to the charger if you don't have acces to a new battery.
