Cracked screen - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Argh, cracked the screen on my 6 week old note 2. everything is shattered around the back button but it all still works fine. My galaxy s2 survived the same fall several times, stupid fat note.
I'm basically stuck with replacing the screen and the digitiser for £180 right? Any UK recommendations? I'm worried its never going to line up the same as it does now

I dropped mine and its cracked in the top right, great phone, **** glass

You can replace glass only ( 20-30$ on ebay ) . You will have too heat up the screen with hairdryer and remove peaces of cracked screen. Its a bit annoying job but nothing complicated. There is enough videos on youtube. After you carefully remove old glass from screen you can apply new glass you bought from ebay. Used to change cracked glasses on several phones and all of them still works perfectly.

Cracked mine too. But I already bought a new glass on ebay and changed it. Works as good as stock glass.

Mine dropped from two feet and hairline cracked across the whole screen. I bought the full assembly LCD/digitizer. Did the repair per LE55ONS. AOK now. afterwards, I tried to pry apart the digitizer glass. In my Note II it is bonded with transparent gum covering the entire LCD. No way to replace only the digitizer on my version of the Note II

Why do you keep reposting your comments about your dropped from a height...
One post is enough.

Cracked glass

Long story short, I dropped my phone and cracked the front glass (first time i've broken a phone ). The screen itself is still in perfect shape and the phone functions perfectly. On eBay, I see a bunch of listings for replacement front outer glass for the E4GT. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Glass...600?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d28f2fa0
I was under the assumption that the screen and glass were fused and you had to replace the entire front glass along with the screen together?
The two pieces aren't fussed but glued. And from what I remember reading it is pretty much impossible to get the two apart.
And I would have to guess it would be equally true to get them glued together again....

Thanks. I figured they were joined somehow. Wanted to make sure so I didn't waste any money.
You technically can get it back together again if you somehow manage to seperate the screen from the glass without breaking it but if you though air bubbles under a screen protector looked bad oh man are you in for an unplesant surprise..... yeah just replace the whole thing, or file an insurance claim if screens are still an arm and a leg on eBay ( haven't looked since the s3 dropped, they were like 125, crazy...)

Yeah, took a chance and got a used one for $75 that's supposedly in perfect shape. We'll see. The seller had good feedback at least.

[Q] here's a new one, broken lcd, glass perfect, digitizer 50%?

so my loving, caring. soon-to-be wife, dropped her new note 2 off her lap onto our garage floor. she has a otterbox defender case and when we picked it up the glass was not cracked but the screen has a hairline crack running from the left middle along the side to the bottom. when we tried to turn it on, the screen turned on but the crack in the lcd was now obvious and the digitizer didnt work for the bottom half of the screen. now i realize that i probably have to replace the whole screen assembly but is the a person on here that can direct me to a local repair person in san diego or maybe a site where i can order it online for under $200?
i know its a long shot and the misses can still use the s pen to use the screen but we ended up leaving it off as over time i noticed the screen getting more and more pixelated from the crack line.
tl;dr front glass is perfect, managed to break lcd and digitizer, am i really boned?
Thats pretty amazing, you can aks sammy how much it will cost you if they repair it, but I dont think it will be under 200

You're very unlucky..How did it crack with an Otterbox ??Bad karma..However i fell sorry for you and your note 2..Contact Sammy and see what can you do..You can try to replace it yourself but you'll lost the warranty..
so turns out the phone still had warranty and i dont need a receipt! (traded our old iphone 4s's for two note 2's plus $200 cash on craigslist) called samsung and told them that the phone all of a sudden had cracks under the glass and was very "hot" from charging, they are replacing it no questions asked! thanks anyways guys, il be sure to buy my wife a clutch for her phablet
Nice .! Move ...n thanx for idea....

Screen replacement

Hey I just recently broke my screen and I bought my phone last july. Its not completely broken but its shattered most of the screen and its incredibly annoying. Is there anyway I could get a new phone or get a cheap screen replacement within 30-50$ range? Or should I just go ahead and get a new phone?

If the digitalizer isn't damaged, replacing the glass only is cheap and easy. Look it up :good:

How would I tell if the digitilizer is broken? It may look just like the glass is broken. If I didn't have my screen protector on I'm pretty sure it would fall apart

Check out this thread for replacing your screen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945494
I highly recommend against trying to replace just the glass. That is what I tried to do, but the LCD is glued to the digitizer which is glued to the glass. I didn't use enough heat and though I got through the edge tape holding the glass to the frame, I shattered the digitizer and LCD as well as busted through the menu buttons.
If you think you can do it, go for it. Not real tool intensive, but there will be lots of heat and the success rate is probably 50/50.
The next step from that is to replace the whole LCD/DIGITIZER/GLASS. But that will set you back around $200. Same process, but you pretty much scrape the glass, digitizer and LCD from the metal frame. Lots of effort, lots of time, and little pieces of glass flying everywhere.
For about the same price, get the FRAME/LCD/DIGITIZER/GLASS asssembly. It only requires removing a few screws, unhooking a couple of cables, and replacing the hole front end. It can be done with care in about 15 minutes.
If you do that, be sure you get the right model number. If you are on AT&T in the US, you'll need the i747. The i9300 may come up a few bucks less, but it's not compatible. Color doesn't matter - you can change now, if you want.
The biggest disadvantage of removing the glass only is the risk of getting dust inbetween the LCD and the glass front. With the other two methods, the LCD/DIGITIZER/GLASS are already fused together. However, if you pull it off, no one will ever know you messed with it, and the warranty cheat won't be tampered with as it will be with a frame replacement.
According to the other post, you are still 13 months from an upgrade. That means around $450 to replace your S3 and $630 if you want to go the S4. For less than half that, you can get the frame replaced. I might even suggest that once you replace the frame, you spend that $10 to replace the glass and try it without any fear of consequences on the one you remove. If you do it well, you might could sell that assembly for $150-$200.
Good luck!
i9300 screen (no frame) will fit i747 frame
can you advise if a i9300 screen (no frame) will fit i747 frame? Mine is 747, I can see lots of posts on Ebay for screens with both 9300 and 747 compatible. Want to make sure before order.

Lcd, digitizer, and glass are all identical except color. Once you see the word "frame", the model matters.
I just recently did this successfully. The key is a good source of heat and patience. I used a heat gun and it took me about thirty minutes to do. There are screens you can order that come with the little tools to use. Start heating it slowly and use the tools to take the glass off. Heat it until its relatively easy to get the glass off but do not over heat it! Keep going until all the glass is off. Once its off, apply some sticky tape (or you can use the tape that was already on the phone if you don't destroy it) and it will be good to go. Make sure that you take the protective paper off the glass you ordered.
Should you have any issues feel free to PM me.

Broken screen

Friend of mine broke his screen on his note 2 and I was wondering if I bought a dummy phone and took all the guts and put it in the dummy phone will it work or tske the screen and digitizer and replace it on the broken phone with theone from the dummy phone. Does the digitizer Eben work in the dummy phones?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
By dummy phone like the one in display at cell stores that don't work? I don't think they even use real glass for the screen. If you want to replace screen, go in ebay or craigslist and look for a blacklisted or broken note 2

I just repaired mine. I bought the whole display assembly and backing plate for $200 off ebay. The only hard part was taking off the back housing. After removing all the screws and going around the inside of the chrome border with a guitar pick, there is a pastic clip at the top of the battery tray and you need to separate the housing from the speaker assembly before the housing comes off. The unnerving parts are removing the glued down ribbon cables for the vibrator motor and the power button. Use a pastic knife or the dull side of an exacto and slowly and patiently work the ribbon cables free. On a 10 scale where 10 is most difficult, I rate the job a 6 or 7.
The Youtube disassembly videos help a lot.
Doesnt Samsung charge 200 for screen fix including shipping and handling? Lolll you must like to live dangerously

Repairing a cracked screen

Well search is down at the moment, so here goes: I have an Optimus G that finally met it's demise. My glass screen is completely shattered but the image underneath is still clear and no discoloration. Obviously it doesn't respond to touch anymore. Do I only need to purchase a digitizer to do the repair or should I get the digitizer+lcd replacement? I just need a simple clarification.
Digitizer and lcd. The lcd on a factory phone is 'glued' to the Digitizer I believe. I couldn't get the lcd off my original evo anyway

He might as well. Although I'm sure you can heat and remove the glass to attach a new glass if the LCD is still good, the price on the glass for the LGOG is a bit steep as its not just a piece of glass, its also the digitizer. A big difference from a Galaxy. I can easily get a glass for my Note at like 10-20 bucks and just glue it on and be all set. That is not the case for the Optimus G, the glass works as the digitizer which I'm assuming why it's a bit expensive.
Edit: I just looked into it some more and it definitely is a complicated task. In all the how to vids they replaced the whole thing, glass and LCD. I guess that's why it's hard to find just the glass. Most sellers sell the glass and LCD together already.
Edit # 2: I finally found just the glass for $38. It actually was 80 last night but I guess the seller dropped the price.

^^^That's what you need. However if you do attempt it be aware that there's no how to videos on separating the glass from lcd. So after heating up the phone to remove it from the housing you're more than likely going to have to reheat the screen again to begin the glass/LCD separation. Oh and you might need some LOCA adhesive and a UV light to bond the new glass in.

you need both >> however i would go for an OEM one ....
i bought a cheap one from china, the ones without the LG logo on top, and it sucks. There is like a small strip that doesnt respond to the touch, its fine because i didnt notice until i started playing with "sketchbook mobile" but still. and it you look at it at an angle through the light its not smooth and perfectly straight like the original one, AND when you tap SLIGHTLY hard .. you see that liquidy effect ... not cool! .. not annoying either .. just a heads up if you do decide to fix it>
