Anybody hearing hiss from their Stock Charger(s)? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

When I plug in my charger into the outlet, I hear a faint hiss; when the charging completes, and when I remove the charger from the outlet, the hiss still persists for some 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?

Mine doesn't, but my wife's htc sensation does & it drives me nuts. I have not figured out a fix either. Tried different cords, chargers, nothing.

I'm actually using a stock charger that I bought from ebay; I don't like opening the new charger that comes with the phone in the box unless it is absolutely necessary. Anyone else hear's the hiss? Almost every forum member posting at the N7100 XDA Forum confirms some form of hissing

I have same problem but only hear the hissing sound when car charging it while using the audio jack. Have you try differnt charger? Is there any magnetic static whatever may think cause your charging sound.

I haven't tried another charger; I do have a 0.7a Samsung Charger lying around somewhere. I will update once I find that charger.

When I do plug in the charger I also hear an initial squeal for a second, is that normal as well?

I do t think its normal to make a sound like that. Hey if this problem cannot be fix and you try everything you could then, your only choice is using your insurance if you have one and get it fix. Good luck!

YES I get this problem too and when I notice it, I get really annoyed. I first noticed this about a week ago and I had trouble falling asleep because of it.

It's strange because I read everyone's comments in the N7100 forum on XDA, and they confirm that this is indeed normal because of higher amperage. I can hardly hear the hissing on my charger unless I put my ear next to it. Obviously, I would believe this is normal then. I have an HP laptop which comes with a travel adapter that hisses. As a matter of fact, I have two HP chargers, both do the same hiss, lol.
Also, I get the average current somewhere between 1200 and 1400 milli-amps, and occasionally, the Max amperage that shows on my charger is 1,800. I'm under the impression that the chargers don't provide consistent output. When the phone is switched off, I would believe that the max current is provided. Probably, nothing to worry about then. Though, there seems to be a lot hype over this. Samsung...

I actually have two stock Samsung chargers. They are both 2000 miliampers and they BOTH do that annoying noise. ((((((((

I've confirmed this is normal; the Samsung chargers are rated at 2 amperes; therefore, the hissing sound is present. HOWEVER, if your hissing is so loud that you can hear even from a few feet away, replace it at once, because its an indicator that the capacitors have either gone bad, or there is a wiring issue (similar to a bad circuit board, etc). Minimum hiss like what I'm facing is normal.
Now, coming to the amperage output, I don't get the full 2A current. Samsung is duping their customers. Shame on them. The current fluctuates; it would have been reasonable if Samsung listed a range instead of fixed # for the listed amperes on their stock chargers. I don't see anyone getting full current (even on the N7100 forum).

Something tells me its due to the charger being made in China but made for US... I mean even my electric razor hisses when plugged in lol

The whole international community is experiencing the same thing like us. I don't think we are the only ones experiencing this.
Perhaps, 'cause it is Made in China.

Either I'm deaf or I just can't hear the hissing lol.

Obviously, some will say as what is mentioned below. Confirming with well over 20 forum members clearly confirms a hiss is present in all chargers. Whatever...

Weird sound when plugged in and listening through AUX

I was using pandora and google music last night in my car through the aux cable going into my pioneer car deck and it sounded great, even though i had a aux splitter going to my ipod and one going to the galaxy nexus.. but as soon as i plugged in my phone to my new Motorola P513 car charger (rated at 950a), a low but noticeable sound came through my speakers .. is this happening to anyone else? do you think this problem will be fixed when i buy the car dock with the 3 pins? thank you
it will be interference from the power circuit. It may improve with the proper 3 pin system but no most micro USB chargers have given me similar problems on multiple devices.

ok thanks, could this weird sound be a warning that the car charger is damaging my device at all?
No problems here. I have the at&t car charger. Possibility charger could be causing problems. Test on another phone to find out.

It's not damaging anything, it is normal to have noise from the cars electric system when listening on mp3's and charging at the same time.

As someone else said it isn't a problem it is just interference from the cars electrical system.

yeah i tried 2 chargers and 2 phones and both had problems, very very minimal on my Nexus One compared to my Galaxy Nexus tho but as soon as i unplugged the problems gone
another phone charger question though.. will my 950mA car charger cause problems for my battery chargering accessory that says DC 5.0V 1A, DC 5.0V 500mA. or does that not matter?
Same here... but,
You might notice, I sure did, that when the GPS is being used it causes it or makes it worse. If it is running (GPS) it will make noise and if it is the active screen/program, it is at its worst.
Definitely need a solution for this... mine is really bad and makes it unusable.

Anybody else's headphone jack noisy when car charger plugged in?

Hello all,
Has anybody had any trouble with noise/whine when using their Gnex headphone jack and charger at the same time. It is basically alternator noise as the pitch changes with the speed of the engine. Sucks that I can't use Pandora and charge the phone at the same time because of this.
Is it the phone or the charger that causes this?

This is commonly referred as a "ground loop". There are several things you could try. What I would do is rewire your cigarette lighter so it shares a common ground with the head unit. You could also try another car charger, or putting a noise filter on the cigarette lighters +12v wire.

Spot on. This is especially the case if you're using an aux-in jack on your headunit. Also applies to the FM-transmitter folk too, though not all obviously.
An alternate fix is getting a ground loop isolater (http://www.amazon.com/GROUND-LOOP-ISOLATOR-3-5-APPLICATIONS/dp/B001EAQTRI like this). You can probably find a diagram online if you're handy with electronics (and want a side project) and get the parts at radioshack or something.
Happens to me when using bt streaming as well but only on certain stations. Also the whine starts out low and eventually the pitch goes so high I can no longer hear it.

Static when using through car aux

Hey,
I've been experiencing an issue with the aux out in my car that only happens when I use the note other phones sound fine. There is static that sounds like wind blowing. Any ideas would be great I'm thinking of taking it to a car audio guy.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Are you charging your Note II at the same time? It could be alternator whine coming through the charging circuit. You can fix it by adding a ground loop isolator between the phone and auxiliary input.
I am not charging at the same time and it also happens when the engine is off.

Do you hear the interference with headphones too? If headphones also produce the noise and other phones connected to the car do not, then it might be a hardware problem with the jack.

No, headphones sound fine. It's really strange.
I have the same issue and believe it is due to the jack not being able to completely be inserted. look at the back cover when its plugged in and tell me if you see some of the plug exposed.. could be wrong but pisses me off as well
Prerty staight forqard then. Its not your phone causing it. Try swapping out the cable?

An update in the issue... I ordered a ground loop isolator from amazon and the problem disappeared seems to work fine it was only 10 bucks so not that big of a deal.

Note 2 Charger - Does yours hiss and buzz?

Quick question guys, when your charger is plugged in...put your head near to it, does it make a hissing / buzzing noise?
I upgraded from S3 to Note 2 last week (so glad I did, the Note 2 is awesome), but I noticed when charging that the charger makes a weird noise.
So, thinking it was faulty I got it swapped out at Phones 4U for a new charger.
Upon returning home and trying the new charger, it does the same thing!
The noise it makes is similar to that a computer PSU makes before it blows.
Is this normal? Anyone else the same?

This can be a sparking wire in the plug socket of your home which is about to burn or very near to the opposite charge carrying wire. Get that checked rather than the charger.
Same here.

Same. Very irritating but so far no issue other than that.
I can even hear it 3 meters away. Happens when the battery reaches 65% charging.

Same here. I just assume it's the charger doing its work. If everyone has the same experience, then I'll be glad I'm not the only one whose house is gonna burn down, should it self-destruct.

Yes, perfectly normal, no need to worry.

same here, its really annoying when you are trying to sleep
all my phone chargers make that noise when not charging a phone, though the samsung charger is the loudest.
Initially I thought what a silly thread. Then I heard mine making that noise this morning. Only happens with one of my chargers. My N2 came with 2 different ones. A 1A and a 2A. Only the 2A one does it

I thought I'm the only one?
I'm asking Samsung to send me a new charger : )
Hope they can.
Accidentally sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Mine too...it is a relief to see that it is quite normal and happening with everybody.
same here
I use a HTC Charger for it and not a single noise , But i would consider asking Samsung about it, they would normally have a process or also a guide for the support team informing them of whats normal etc,

Lg G3 hissing charger.

Hey guys i noticed something that I would like to point out and ask you about.
When using the G3 on battery i get no hissing noise whatsoever. But the moment i plug it in the charger supplied i start to vividly hear hissing noises. I noticed that a hissing sound also comes from the charger and i assumed that its normal because of the 1.8 amps flowing through the thing. Is it normal or do i need to hit up tmobile for a replacement charger?

I can tell you I've NEVER gotten any hissing sounds when charging any of my phones, or my wife's phones, whatsoever, over the years. Even charging them from a near empty status AND using them at the same time.
One time last year, I got a hissing/crackling sound when charging my Note 3 and it turned out our kitten had chewed a portion of the cable, right through the sheathing and exposed some of the wires. The cable was shorting out a bit and creating that hissing/crackling sound.
I would try and see if you can replicate the hissing sound when using another charger and/or cable, to narrow down whether it's the charger, cable or phone.
Hissing from the charger block could indicate a defect in the stepdown transformer or a short in the charging cable. Hissing from the phone could indicate a charging port problem. Hissing from the battery could indicate a defective battery.
Of course, this is coming off your description of a hissing sound, which might be similar to a crackling sound, in which the above still holds true.

Are you sure your g3 does not have the hissing sound while charging? At all?
Sent from LG Gangster 3
All mobile chargers will make a noise. That sounds comes from the electrical components, as they chance AC electricity to DC at lower voltage.
I dug out an old block charger and that gives off a hum, not a hiss, when I use it and also when it's just plain plugged in and not being used to charge or pass current. The hum do is very faint. I don't get any hiss or hums on my other chargers, whether charging or not.
And yes, all chargers are stepping down voltage, but cellphone chargers on a whole should not be hissing. The current is not much on a whole compared to other appliances that hum (ACs, fridges, etc) that are pulling more amps and current through that transformer. You might get an audible hum or noise when your phone is pulling the full current with a deep charge and even more so while deep charging and using it at the same time.
You said you're hearing hissing, which is not the same as humming. If your battery or phone is emitting a hissing charge, then something is up. As I mentioned in my earlier post, hissing from your phone or battery might signify a defective battery and bad charging, the cells might be overheating or so.
I'm not sure on your setup or so, but one cause of loud humming on transformers is "dirty voltage", or when you have noise on your electric lines. All lines have noise, but depending on your electric supplier, they might have more noise on the line and that translates into the transformer.
You mentioned hissing and not humming again, so I'm assuming it's actual hissing you're hearing. If it was humming, then I would say that that is normal under use and so forth. But hissing is something different, especially if it's coming from your phone!
