Lg G3 hissing charger. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys i noticed something that I would like to point out and ask you about.
When using the G3 on battery i get no hissing noise whatsoever. But the moment i plug it in the charger supplied i start to vividly hear hissing noises. I noticed that a hissing sound also comes from the charger and i assumed that its normal because of the 1.8 amps flowing through the thing. Is it normal or do i need to hit up tmobile for a replacement charger?

I can tell you I've NEVER gotten any hissing sounds when charging any of my phones, or my wife's phones, whatsoever, over the years. Even charging them from a near empty status AND using them at the same time.
One time last year, I got a hissing/crackling sound when charging my Note 3 and it turned out our kitten had chewed a portion of the cable, right through the sheathing and exposed some of the wires. The cable was shorting out a bit and creating that hissing/crackling sound.
I would try and see if you can replicate the hissing sound when using another charger and/or cable, to narrow down whether it's the charger, cable or phone.
Hissing from the charger block could indicate a defect in the stepdown transformer or a short in the charging cable. Hissing from the phone could indicate a charging port problem. Hissing from the battery could indicate a defective battery.
Of course, this is coming off your description of a hissing sound, which might be similar to a crackling sound, in which the above still holds true.

Are you sure your g3 does not have the hissing sound while charging? At all?
Sent from LG Gangster 3

All mobile chargers will make a noise. That sounds comes from the electrical components, as they chance AC electricity to DC at lower voltage.

I dug out an old block charger and that gives off a hum, not a hiss, when I use it and also when it's just plain plugged in and not being used to charge or pass current. The hum do is very faint. I don't get any hiss or hums on my other chargers, whether charging or not.
And yes, all chargers are stepping down voltage, but cellphone chargers on a whole should not be hissing. The current is not much on a whole compared to other appliances that hum (ACs, fridges, etc) that are pulling more amps and current through that transformer. You might get an audible hum or noise when your phone is pulling the full current with a deep charge and even more so while deep charging and using it at the same time.
You said you're hearing hissing, which is not the same as humming. If your battery or phone is emitting a hissing charge, then something is up. As I mentioned in my earlier post, hissing from your phone or battery might signify a defective battery and bad charging, the cells might be overheating or so.
I'm not sure on your setup or so, but one cause of loud humming on transformers is "dirty voltage", or when you have noise on your electric lines. All lines have noise, but depending on your electric supplier, they might have more noise on the line and that translates into the transformer.
You mentioned hissing and not humming again, so I'm assuming it's actual hissing you're hearing. If it was humming, then I would say that that is normal under use and so forth. But hissing is something different, especially if it's coming from your phone!

Anybody hearing hiss from their Stock Charger(s)?

When I plug in my charger into the outlet, I hear a faint hiss; when the charging completes, and when I remove the charger from the outlet, the hiss still persists for some 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?
Mine doesn't, but my wife's htc sensation does & it drives me nuts. I have not figured out a fix either. Tried different cords, chargers, nothing.

I'm actually using a stock charger that I bought from ebay; I don't like opening the new charger that comes with the phone in the box unless it is absolutely necessary. Anyone else hear's the hiss? Almost every forum member posting at the N7100 XDA Forum confirms some form of hissing

I have same problem but only hear the hissing sound when car charging it while using the audio jack. Have you try differnt charger? Is there any magnetic static whatever may think cause your charging sound.

I haven't tried another charger; I do have a 0.7a Samsung Charger lying around somewhere. I will update once I find that charger.

I do t think its normal to make a sound like that. Hey if this problem cannot be fix and you try everything you could then, your only choice is using your insurance if you have one and get it fix. Good luck!

YES I get this problem too and when I notice it, I get really annoyed. I first noticed this about a week ago and I had trouble falling asleep because of it.
It's strange because I read everyone's comments in the N7100 forum on XDA, and they confirm that this is indeed normal because of higher amperage. I can hardly hear the hissing on my charger unless I put my ear next to it. Obviously, I would believe this is normal then. I have an HP laptop which comes with a travel adapter that hisses. As a matter of fact, I have two HP chargers, both do the same hiss, lol.
Also, I get the average current somewhere between 1200 and 1400 milli-amps, and occasionally, the Max amperage that shows on my charger is 1,800. I'm under the impression that the chargers don't provide consistent output. When the phone is switched off, I would believe that the max current is provided. Probably, nothing to worry about then. Though, there seems to be a lot hype over this. Samsung...
I actually have two stock Samsung chargers. They are both 2000 miliampers and they BOTH do that annoying noise. ((((((((
I've confirmed this is normal; the Samsung chargers are rated at 2 amperes; therefore, the hissing sound is present. HOWEVER, if your hissing is so loud that you can hear even from a few feet away, replace it at once, because its an indicator that the capacitors have either gone bad, or there is a wiring issue (similar to a bad circuit board, etc). Minimum hiss like what I'm facing is normal.
Now, coming to the amperage output, I don't get the full 2A current. Samsung is duping their customers. Shame on them. The current fluctuates; it would have been reasonable if Samsung listed a range instead of fixed # for the listed amperes on their stock chargers. I don't see anyone getting full current (even on the N7100 forum).
Something tells me its due to the charger being made in China but made for US... I mean even my electric razor hisses when plugged in lol

Audio Issues when plugged into car First shortcoming I have found

So ive got to say this phone has been pretty much awsome for the past 24 hours but I have found its first major short coming wondering if anybody else is having this issue.
SO here is what happens. I happily plugged my note 4 into the aux audio jack in my car and then I plugged it into the car charger. That is when I get this really annoying electrical noise through the stereo system in the car. So I was like hum that is weird my note 2 only did that if the jack was not plugged in all the way. Well when a sound on the phone plays the electrical noise goes away completely and I hear the sound or song or whatever audio is playing crystal clear. Then as soon as no sounds are playing as if the audio card in the phone is not being used its like it shuts off and lets all this electrical noise coming through the charging system of the phone. Then if say a txt comes in the electrical noise sound goes away the alert plays then after the alert plays the electrical noise comes back super annoying. Can hear the alternator in the car through the noise as well. Make me wonder if it is a software issue of some sort because the noise goes away totally whenever any program takes over the audio driver and plays something through the sound card.
Anybody else have this issue? Try it if ya have not would be interesting to hear reports on this. I do not have bluetooth in my car so could not test it. I always raise the phones volume all the way up when plugged into the aux jack so I have more preamping to the stereo.
Thanks
Haven't tried on the note 4 yet but I did have this same issue on the note 2. But it was more of a white noise. Very low almost TV static noise.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I've had this issue with multiple different phones - I don't think it is the software exactly.
The only time that would ever happen to me is if I was using my aux cable AND had my normal AC charger plugged into it (using an adapter for the car that turned the "smoking thingy" into an AC socket.) If I used an adapter for the car that just gave me a USB port to charge it through only cable it would never happen.
And this happens consistently - haven't tried with my note 4 though yet though.
Try it without your charger plugged in.

I agree without the charger plugged in there is no noise at all. But it is strange that the grounding loop problem only occurs if software is not playing any audio at all. It literally goes away when something plays audio I can hear it go silent then the audio plays then there is another 8th of a second of pure silence then the noise starts again. Or say you are listening to tune in radio or something and a notification comes up. It will pause the radio program and then you will hear the noise for a split second then a sound will play silent again then split second noise then the radio will resume playing. So between the hand off of the two audio programs playing a sound you hear the noise really weird.
I agree the AC adaptor made noise for me as well on the note 2 plugged into an inverter. But this is just my normal 12 v adapter that never had a problem with the note 2. Will be interesting to hear what more ppl say with their 12 v adapters.
My power adapter above 1 amp makes a lot of noise. Had a 2.x amp for quicker charge. Had to revert to 1.x amp charger to reduce noise.

Charger making an audible hissing sound when charging

Hey guys, so I just got my brand new Nexus 5X today in the mail. I set it up and started charging the phone with the provided charger. And oddly, I can hear the charger making a faint hissing sound when charging. When I disconnect the phone from the charger, the sound disappears. But this is odd as I never had any other charger make such a sound before.
It is very faint and only noticeable if I pay attention to it. Is this normal? Do your chargers make such a hissing sound or is something wrong with this charger?

It's called a coil whine. It's fine if it doesn't get to a louder level (like if you can hear it from another room)

Dash Charger noise?

Does the Dash Charger make noice also, is it Normal? Thx!
Just checked but No Sound at all.
Mine does - a very slight buzzing whirling noise...have to have ear less than a foot away to hear it. Not sure if it's normal, but my Op2 adapter made pretty much the same noise.
Normally i would see cheap condensators placed.

In my personal experience I have noticed an extremely high pitched noise from pretty much every mobile phone charging brick I have ever used. Nothing to worry about.
Mine has always been 100% silent, but if you're getting some kind of noise out of it, try plugging it into the power strip, or plug it in at a different location and see if it stops. It might be that the power coming into your house is "dirty". I used to build pro audio studios, and we always had to use power conditioners due to the power coming into the location giving producing substantial noise in the lines, both analog and digital.. A lot of it has to do with slightly out of phase AC current, and when it's switching to DC in the charger transformer it can make noise at the front end of said transformer. Also, the dash charger pulls a significant amount of current to be transferred so I can imagine some noise would be expected with unconditioned power going into it.
If it's annoyingly audible I would plug it in elsewhere and if it still makes the same noise contact OnePlus and get another one.
So Many people facing same sound issue inside the charger, its normal
Mine is silent and if the sound being emitted by your charger is like a buzzing one is extremely low then it can be considered as normal but if its even audible during normal room sounds then you should get it checked.
If you unplug your charging cable from the phone before unpluging your charging brick from the wall outlet, then some "charge" may remain in the charging brick. Just remove the charging brick from the wall outlet first, wait about 3 seconds for the remaining "charge" to transfer from the charging brick to the phone, and then unplug your cable from the phone. By doing these, there is no remaining "charge" in your charging brick and it won't make that buzzing noise. That buzzing noise occurs on all of my other charging bricks as well (for samsung tablet, lenovo smartphone, oneplus 2). Of course, if the charging brick makes that noise, just plug your cable in the phone (without plugging your charging brick in the wall outlet) - this will transfer the remaining charge from it to the phone and the charging brick will stop making that noise.

Question Pixel charger making noise

I bought the 30w pixel charging brick and I noticed that the brick makes a humming noise when it's plugged into my phone. I assume that's normal due to the fast charging speed the brick produces.
Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Um, could you make a video of it? Try to capture the sound?
Many power supplies, whether big or small, create a small "whining" noise because of coil whine. My LG CX TV does, my PC does it slightly, but I never had the issue with a small smartphone charging brick. But it's possible of course, if there are coils, they can whine.
So are we talking about coil whine or "humming?"

What Is Coil Whine, and Can I Get Rid of It on My PC?
Modern PCs are ridiculously powerful, so creature comforts like low noise levels have become more important. Most noise comes from your cooling fans, spinning drives, and optical drives (if you still have one), though there’s one other lesser-known noise source: a phenomenon called “coil whine.”...

What Is Coil Whine? On a pure technical level, coil whine refers to an undesirable noise emitted by an electronic component vibrating as power runs through an electrical cable. Just about anything with a power source can create coil whine to some degree, but it’s usually caused by an electrical current going through a power-regulating component like a transformer or inductor, causing its electrical wiring to vibrate at a variable frequency. This happens in almost all electrical devices, usually at a frequency and volume that’s inaudible to humans, especially inside a metal or plastic PC case.

It's most likely coil whine. I've noticed that the sound goes away at times when my charging slows down
It's a feature.
What you hear it's a low frequency sound, it helps you focus and regenerates brain cells.
lol joke aside, mine makes the same sound, I consulted reddit and it seems to be normal, so don't worry. =)
Does sound familiar
Thanks guys
You should hear my graphics card on full tonk, it sounds like it is chewing a bag of bees
I did have an Aukey QC 3.0 charger once and that had terrible coil whine to the point where i lobbed it in the bin.

To be fair, it's sort of a "quality" feature if a product batch has little to no coil whine, some product lines/manufacturers are prone to it. So it would be interesting to know how many people that bought the Pixel charger have this kind of issue, since it could be a problem that could have been reduced in number if Google cared more for quality control/product design.
