Static when using through car aux - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey,
I've been experiencing an issue with the aux out in my car that only happens when I use the note other phones sound fine. There is static that sounds like wind blowing. Any ideas would be great I'm thinking of taking it to a car audio guy.

Are you charging your Note II at the same time? It could be alternator whine coming through the charging circuit. You can fix it by adding a ground loop isolator between the phone and auxiliary input.

I am not charging at the same time and it also happens when the engine is off.

Do you hear the interference with headphones too? If headphones also produce the noise and other phones connected to the car do not, then it might be a hardware problem with the jack.

No, headphones sound fine. It's really strange.

I have the same issue and believe it is due to the jack not being able to completely be inserted. look at the back cover when its plugged in and tell me if you see some of the plug exposed.. could be wrong but pisses me off as well

Prerty staight forqard then. Its not your phone causing it. Try swapping out the cable?

An update in the issue... I ordered a ground loop isolator from amazon and the problem disappeared seems to work fine it was only 10 bucks so not that big of a deal.

Weird sound when plugged in and listening through AUX

I was using pandora and google music last night in my car through the aux cable going into my pioneer car deck and it sounded great, even though i had a aux splitter going to my ipod and one going to the galaxy nexus.. but as soon as i plugged in my phone to my new Motorola P513 car charger (rated at 950a), a low but noticeable sound came through my speakers .. is this happening to anyone else? do you think this problem will be fixed when i buy the car dock with the 3 pins? thank you
it will be interference from the power circuit. It may improve with the proper 3 pin system but no most micro USB chargers have given me similar problems on multiple devices.

ok thanks, could this weird sound be a warning that the car charger is damaging my device at all?
No problems here. I have the at&t car charger. Possibility charger could be causing problems. Test on another phone to find out.

It's not damaging anything, it is normal to have noise from the cars electric system when listening on mp3's and charging at the same time.

As someone else said it isn't a problem it is just interference from the cars electrical system.

yeah i tried 2 chargers and 2 phones and both had problems, very very minimal on my Nexus One compared to my Galaxy Nexus tho but as soon as i unplugged the problems gone
another phone charger question though.. will my 950mA car charger cause problems for my battery chargering accessory that says DC 5.0V 1A, DC 5.0V 500mA. or does that not matter?
Same here... but,
You might notice, I sure did, that when the GPS is being used it causes it or makes it worse. If it is running (GPS) it will make noise and if it is the active screen/program, it is at its worst.
Definitely need a solution for this... mine is really bad and makes it unusable.

Anybody else's headphone jack noisy when car charger plugged in?

Hello all,
Has anybody had any trouble with noise/whine when using their Gnex headphone jack and charger at the same time. It is basically alternator noise as the pitch changes with the speed of the engine. Sucks that I can't use Pandora and charge the phone at the same time because of this.
Is it the phone or the charger that causes this?

This is commonly referred as a "ground loop". There are several things you could try. What I would do is rewire your cigarette lighter so it shares a common ground with the head unit. You could also try another car charger, or putting a noise filter on the cigarette lighters +12v wire.

Spot on. This is especially the case if you're using an aux-in jack on your headunit. Also applies to the FM-transmitter folk too, though not all obviously.
An alternate fix is getting a ground loop isolater (http://www.amazon.com/GROUND-LOOP-ISOLATOR-3-5-APPLICATIONS/dp/B001EAQTRI like this). You can probably find a diagram online if you're handy with electronics (and want a side project) and get the parts at radioshack or something.
Happens to me when using bt streaming as well but only on certain stations. Also the whine starts out low and eventually the pitch goes so high I can no longer hear it.

Awful sound quality to my car's AUX in.

Hi there --
I'm a recent convert to the GS3 (and Android in general) from an iPhone 4. About all the music I listen to in my car was from my iPhone, and I want to do the same with my GS3, however, the sound quality from the 3.5mm jack to the AUX in on my car's deck is absolutely awful. I have to turn the volume much higher than I ever did with my iPhone or iPod, and even then the sound quality is very poor -- there is very little punch/bass in the music.
I've been researching a possible "USB car dock cable" which would allow me to get line out audio (rather than through the regular headphone jack) through the USB port on the bottom of the phone, but it seems the only solution is to buy a dock or DIY the cable yourself, nobody seems to sell them (and I'm not really willing to DIY a cable).
Any ideas what I might be able to do to improve the audio quality? I absolutely love the phone, but this is a pretty big caveat for me.
Mine sounds great, do headphones sound ok? Maybe your aux port is effed up. If that's the case exchange it ASAP. Are you rooted? Custom rom? Stock?

Headphones sound fine from my GS3, and other devices (iPhone/iPod) sound great on the same AUX jack in my car.
I am rooted running the leaked Bell Jellybean Touchwiz ROM.
Be interested to see what replies there are to this. I have the exact same problem. I find the volume is way too quiet and if I turn up the audio on my stereo I get an awful hissing noise. I have no problems on my sensation XE, only GS3. Headphones work fine so I seriously doubt its the aux port on the phone.
I have found some info that might help as your rooted.....

I also found that first link, but it only works on the International version of the GS3, I have the AT&T i747.
I have a 07 lexus, with an older bluetooth profile that does not allow for streaming music. I found a belkin product, caraudio connect, that will create a streaming a2dp profile through my aux port. On my s3/att/ics (stock), everything worked great. I had a profile for my phone audio and another for my media audio, and could connect both at the same time. This was great as i did not have to switch to aux for phone calls.
However, i had issues with hiss, drops, static, engine noise, etc. I had used many ground loop isolators in the RCA/car audio world, but never one on a 3.5mm stereo (double pole) connection. After adding the inline isolator from my aux port to the belkin product, my engine noise disappeared! I also found that when i updated to JB (CM10/sapir), both bluetooth profiles could operate at the same time without any interference issues on each profile.
If you have any questions on my rig, let me know.
parts:
Sorry, im new so it doesn't let me post outside links.
belkin: Part # F4U037tt
Ground loop isolator: Check out amazon, PAC Ground loop isolator for 3.5 MM applications. should be about 10 bucks.

Interesting topic. I've had issues with other phones where the volume couldn't be turned all the way up, as that would cause distortion. Have you tried turning your volume down a couple notches? I use my phone plugged into my car stereo all the time with zero distortion.
Could be hardware problem?

I just got the galaxy s3. Moved over from iPhone land. But am disappointed with this issue.
When I use the aux in via headphone jack and charge at the same time I get a horrible whine cracking and popping noise. This is unusual to me as I never had this issue with any of my I phones (3g and 4). This seems like a glaring oversight on Samsung part.

static noise when plugged in car

when i plug my phone into my car to play music its fine. when i use my car charger and play music at the same time tis fine but the second the music stop i hear a static noise from my speakers (which is attached to my galaxy)
this static noise is an imitation of whatever my car is doing at that moment (if im reving the engine the static will resemble the revs, same with turn signals)
anyone else experiencing this problem?
It's feedback from the car electrical system. Usually a bad alternator ground or corroded battery cables, or even the cables going to the starter.

Damn, I was hoping this wasn't a problem on the gs3. It is probably the only true thing I don't like abut my skyrocket.
I'm assuming it isn't a stock deck? Check your ground and of possible try a new location.
All in all though, Androids micro USB is a horrible horrible connection. Every Android phone I have ever owned makes some sort of hissing sound while charging and listening to audio through the headphone jack. Even the Google Nexus does. But the iphone doesn't. Go figure.

On my i747m, I could not use the USB port to listen to music while I was charging via cigarette lighter. There is a definite design flaw. I bought an Ibolt dock and am not able to use it the way it is intended. Even when I wired it myself from scratch (I'm a sound tech) it failed.
Not only does it make white noise and static between songs, but there is some kind of GATE that kicks in 1 or 2 secs after any music pause....it cuts the noise in half but it still remains...and the act of cutting, is an irritant in itself. Further more, even when your playing music, the NOISE is fighting for sonic real estate. I can hear it. I am trained.
So for me, I am running the audio out of the headphone jack. It's 98% better but still not 100%. I don't get the classic REV issue...which has to do with grounding and/or cable shielding. But, if I was you, I would go to The Source store and pick up a Ground Isolator. They have one specific for car issues like yours.
Its a ground loop.

It MIGHT... be a ground loop.
It might NOT.
Read my post #7.
If your using USB audio, there is an internal design flaw NOISE issue independent from any GROUND issues. (at least with my i747m) I can reproduce the machine like noise in the car, on a desk dock, on a separate stereo system. The Ground Loop isolator did not help my issue but it's worth trying if you get the hum/car interference noise from usb and/or headphones.

[Q] Finicky connection with car audio jack

*Edit:*
Just so those who just joined in this converstation don't get too dragged into it, I've resolved this issue simply by buying what is called a ground loop noise isolator adapter. It's main purpose is to remove the static and whining noise you hear from your speakers when you plug your phone to the car charger while connected to the speakers. But at the same time, it is keeping the signal from the aux cable of your car on "hot" so that when you plug in the phone, the phone immediately picks up the aux signal and stays connected. I basically killed two birds with one stone by getting the adapter. Here is the adapter I purchased:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001EAQTRI
I will make it clear here that this aux connectivity problem has nothing to do with how cheap or expensive your aux cable is. You can use the most expensive cable or the cheapest penny cable out there and if the problem exists between your phone and your car's aux, then it won't resolve it. Either change your car's head unit (which is a stupid thing to do) or simply get the adapter. Don't return the phone over this problem, its just a dumb move. The phone is amazing. LG will have a patch for it or someone will make a ROM that tackles the problem.
*end edit*
Hello all,
was wondering if anyone else with the G3 (not sure if it matters, but I have the 851 variant) is having a hard time getting their phone working with the audio jack coming from their car. I drive a 2007 Scion tC and never had any problem of weird issues connecting any of my previous phones (Moto Atrix 4G, LG Nitro HD, GSIII, Nexus 5 just to name a few) to the audio jack in my car. I'll just plug it in and it connects just fine.
But for some odd reason, the G3 is having tons of issues. When I plug in the audio jack to the phone, I see the audio jack icon pop up up top next to the clock, but then some times it will just disappear on its own. Other times, it will stay there, but when I play a media, may it be music, or video from any app, the sound will play out of the speaker on the phone and not the car speakers. Unplugging it while the media is playing and replugging it again will not change anything, but if I stop the media playback, unplug it and then plug it back in, and the icon reappears and then I tap play immediately, the audio will then come out from the car speakers. Some times I have to do this multiple times to finally get it to work.
The strangest thing is, this does not happen if I plug anything else to the G3, such as a headset or an external speaker or any other devices, only in my car. It even works fine in any other car as far as I know. I've tried different audio cables in my car but it still does the same thing, so it doesn't seem to be the cable.
Is there some kind of sensor in the phone that detects connectivity of the phone to another device? I realize that when I plug in the phone to my car, the car speakers makes a couple of whining noises before it goes quiet, sort of sending or receiving a signal from the phone.
Can anybody please help me? I want to say that the phone is defective, but I can't proof so since it works just fine with any other devices. Could it be the head unit in my car is incompatible with the phone? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks bfranklin, I didn't realize there was another thread about it. Wish all the G3 are under the same group.
I noticed i get some crackling feedback when i hit play on a track.. but then it works fine and even with moving the aux jack it doesn't keep cracking... just on initial play/loading of the music player

That was my trick initially but eventually even that didn't work. Someone mentioned to try plugging in a charger first and then plug in the aux cable and that worked. But now I bought a ground loop noise isolator and that has resolved the problem completely. I also don't get so much popping noise and no whining noise when I charge the phone while the car is running. Here's what I bought:

If you use low quality Audio cables like Monster sells it will be higher resistance than a quality cable and should register without issue. The phone struggles with discovering the connection.

I was not saying that. If you use Griffen cable at 14 . or monster cable at 20. Or rocketfish at 18. They all work the same. Just not buying that it is a cable issue. Hardware more like it. I actually just order a eBay cable for .99 cents to prove this totally wrong.
This has nothing to do with cables. I literally tried over 6 different cables and nothing worked between my phone and my car's aux port. Yet I used the same cables in my friend's car (old Nissan sentra) that has an aux port and they all worked fine with the phone. Also used a cassette aux adapter kit in my gf's sister's old SUV and it works fine with it.
This is purely hardware compatibility issue. Some head unit's aux port stays hot at all times, others don't. Some probably reacts faster than others and connects immediately so the phone doesn't drop connectivity before engaging. Again, like I've mentioned, you can either circumvent the issue by using the "charge phone first then plug in aux cable" trick, or simply buy a ground loop isolator adapter which keeps the connection hot. LG will fix the problem eventually. It was an annoyance, but a minor one, and i can't be any happier with this phone despite of the connection issue.
