Wipe data, wipes internal SD card too?

I've been holding off on putting music on my phone because I didn't know if wiping, would wipe my music out too, so does it?

every time i wiped data and the caches when flashing a new rom, my pictures and music stay on my phone.

I'm not talking about a micro SD I'm talking about the internal SD(memory) that's on the phone just to clarify

Not gonna help.

I've tried several roms and each time I wipe data, cache, and dalvik via CWM and Ive never lost any of my data including pictures, downloaded files etc from my internal storage.

Anything on your internal memory will stay. When you wipe data factory reset it only deletes the root partition. Doesn't include the sdcard. Internal or external. In cwm it will not delete uour music if it is stored in the internal SD card. If you do a master reset through the stock ROM. It gives you the option to format sdcard. If you check it. It WILL wipe the internal SD card.
In conclusion:
Your music should be safe if you wipedata/ factory reset from recovery.
If you do a factory reset through the stock ROM and you check format SD card you will lose anything in the internal SD card.

Uh.. it clearly states that factory data reset will wipe your internal SD when you go to do it.. it won't wipe an external SD card but YES it does wipe the regular built in SD

You actually have the option to wipe your SD card at the time of a master reset through settings. What it states is all system data will be deleted. Including contacts saved on phone memory settings apps. Etc. It does NOT automatically erase your internal SD card when you do a regular master reset.

no it does not. i do not have any other sd card in my phone except the built in one. i have flashed about 5 roms and each time i did a full wipe in CWM and my music AND photos stayed.

That's not the same as a factory data reset. Reread my post.

Sorry to correct you but a factory data reset does not wipe the internal SD card. It doesn't matter if you wipe your phone through recovery or settings. Unless you tell your phone to it will not wipe the sd card. I don't know where you are getting your information from but you have to tell your phone to format the SD card. Factory data reset does not wipe internal SD card automatically neither does a master reset. You must select that option to format USB storage. In other words internal SD card.

Dang dude I had to restore md5 and try for my self. But I stand corrected.
Wiping data WILL erase your internal sd card.
I went through the whole process of restoring stock rom and put a song in the internal storage root directory and did a master reset. When it rebooted song was gone! First time I see this on a galaxy. In conclusion, it's been tested and YES it will delete your internal SD.

i accidently wiped out all internal storage on my sprint sg3 i can still access twrp in recovery mode but there is nothing in internal storage to access to attempt recovery . and when i reboot in twrp it says there is no OS reboot anyway?do i unroot and return to stock?or is there differnt options? need assistance please and thank you in advance. this rooting stuff is new to me so i also apologize

You can mount it via usb to your computer, put a rom on your sd, go in abs rewipe cache, dalvik, data, and system and flash your rom. Bam good to go.
I do this once in a while to get rid of old system files. Different roms and apps use internal storage so after a month or two you can free up a good gig

Internal SD wipe ok?

I just got an extended battery and wanted to wipe my internal SD so I can have a clean start and flash revolt with lightning kernel. I have no access to a computer. Would it be safe to put the ROM on my SD then wipe internal, then flash all in one recovery session? Thanks

It is probably ok. Although just to be sure I would stick a reboot in between.

But if I reboot I wouldn't be able to get back into recovery though right? Or would it not wipe that part?

If you just wipe internal only you still have a rom. If you format system your rom is gone. And you can just reboot recovery its much faster. You can go ahead and try it all at once. Worst outcome is you reflash the rom. No biggie

If you go to settings/storage and format your internal, it will wipe it clean, but you'll still have your ROM.Just did it the other day.

Well to me internal phone storage is internal sd card. The reason I didnt say for you to wipe that in setting is because I was unsure of the rom. As far as I can remember some stock roms had the brick bug still in it if you access the wipe by settings> storage.

Im using twrp recovery, can i format my internal storage without bricking my device? I will still have access to download mode, and recovery?

wipe - deletes everything on internal storage preserving partition structure
format - recreates internal storage partition from scratch so to say
Usually wipe is more safe, format might end up with corrupt partition structure if something goes wrong
And NO, you cannot flash ROM after wipe/format unless ROM zip is on your external storage.

Thank you nejil8. I will try to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468083 because when i try, it boot loops in the very first logo screen it wont go past the very first logo. Ironically, I have installed darthstalker rom several times with no problem.
I always wipe
-cache
-dalvik cache
-system
-data
I will try wiping "internal storage" and see if it boots up. Thank you for your help.

I forgot to mention im using twrp 2.6.3.2 not the latest version. Sometimes i wonder if that's causing the boot loop at very first logo.

Update your recovery, flash the ROM and see this for fixing bootloop. Wiping internal storage wont help.
Use adb to push all files needed to /sdcard and have them available for flashing in recovery.

Thank you to all that were helpful. I decided to go back to stock using this method how to unbrick unroot NOTE 3 I was able to enable unlimited native tethering and rerooted and install this amazing program Xposed framework (you can record calls an many many more tweaks. I don't really need a custom rom, i mainly wanted unlimited tethering that's all. I also have Next launcher 3D NEXT laucher 3D is SICK. I don't need anything esle. That launcher is a major GO.

Accidently wiped everything including system, backups and internal storage, used to know how to mount and try pushing the rom but, I haven't used that method in a while, can anyone help

I think the easiest way would be to load what you want on the micro SD with a card reader for your computer then flash from SD. Otherwise use ODIN to flash full stock and start fresh. I know what you mean with mounting the recovery with usb so you can transfer files, but I forget how.
