I searched but don't see a similar thread. ZAGG is offering a two year smartphone warranty for $99 that covers unlocked phones, also covers water damage with a $59 deductable...I think it will be cheaper than paying monthly insurance premiums. Probably most savings if you will stay with your phone for ~2 years. Something to consider?

I would trust Squaretrade's amazing track-record over this. $125 for 2 years and it covers broken glass, drops, software/mechanical failure, water damage/immersion, etc...
http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/android-landing1
Edit: 10% off @squaretrade with coupon "TENFTEN" = $112 for 2 years
OR
Edit 2: $30 off @squaretrade with coupon "FF30" = $95 for 2 years
Random question, if my gps is really bad on my phone, can I go to sprint and switch it for a refurb even if I don't have TEP? It's about 7 months old.. or am I just pretty much screwed?

At first this looks pretty good, but it says issues caused by "normal use" and the ZAGG Safe coverage explicitly covers unlocked/jailbroken phones...seems like maybe a better deal if you're a crackflasher, like me.

I would think that would be considered a hardware defect and should be covered under your Samsung warranty.
Problem is, I don't see anything about lost/stolen, which is covered in TEP.

While that is true, this warranty for the price, is good enough for those of us that protect our phones and never ever lose em

I've never lost a phone, just pointing out what may be a deciding factor in coverage for some. It would seem if you don't have a phone to send them, essentially, you won't be covered. I agree, it does look good for damage/defect, but I'd wait for a few hundred consumer reviews before taking the plunge.
I am debating on insurance. I usually buy it and have used it on past phones. However Sprints is 8 bucks a month and you have to buy in first 30 days. I have heard debate that Square Trade or Protect My bubble are cheaper, faster, and less hoops.
With Protect my bubble you get 6 months to buy from time phone purchased. This can save some money as if you lost or damaged your phone within 6 months dont buy the insurance then buy it and wait the 14 days and then make claim. Would save some but Dont know about that comapany.
With Square trade you get 3 months to and no waiting period. But you pay the $69 up front for years coverage. That is the cheapest and they are a known great company.
Both have 100 buck deductible.
Any ideas?>
Thanks
I usually do my upgrade at best buy where i buy their black tie protection which is $10 a month... it includes drops but not lost phones and there is no deductible

If there was no deductible I would consider buying it but say your phone breaks after a year. You just spent $8 a month on insurance and now you have to spend another $100 to get a new phone!? By that point your phone will be at a similar price or less on eBay/Craigslist. Personally I just throw a case on my phone and don't worry about insurance.

My insurance plan is just to hang on to my previous phone once I've upgraded. If I break, lose or brick my new phone I just fall back to the old phone until I can buy another. Since I usually upgrade ever 6-9 months, even my *old* phone is still basically new.
I use best buy. They cover scratches, breaks, batteries etc... You have no deductible and have no limit on using it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
The plus to Best buy is no deductable. The negative is not insured against lost or stolen and I have had to use that option twice in 5 years...
yeah I just had the run down about 3 hours ago. My og evo broke so we looked online to find the Epic was $50 at best buy. I had the freedom upgrade gift card so phone was free.
When he was explaining all the differences....it seemed Best Buy had the best protection plan. $10 month no deductible. I've always had sprint protection/insurance before (but never used it) but they went up in price lately have have that $100-$125 deductible.
I still didn't sign up though, but have 30 days to decide.
Does anyone have any experience with Best Buy's protection plan? Do they try and screw ya when you try and make a claim?

Best Buys protection plan was great back in what I like to call "the day"... It was truly no hassle with immediate replacement by a new device or the latest upgrade if your device was no longer available. Around 2003 all of these perks were changed and I've been with Asurion ever since. While it is a tad more pricy and has a deductible, their customer service is best in class and they ship everything overnight. Great experience with them for almost 10 years.

From my perspective, it depends on how much a new phone costs me and the deductible. For instance, if I have insurance on the phone for say $8 a month, that's $192 in the span of my contract that I'm gong to pay no matter what. Then there's the deductible that's normally about $100 or so.
To me, that's almost $300. So unless I literally have the newest and latest and greatest phone that will be released for the next 6 months or so, I pass and just opt out. It's actually cheaper to just buy most phones outright. For instance, you can find yourself an Epic 4G Touch on eBay for less than paying $8 for 2 years.
Wirefly.Com has it for 7.50 a month if you bought the phone from them no deductible that's what I have

This is an excellent point. There is a point where you start to spend more in insurance+deductibles than what the phone is worth and can find the same one or comparable online at a great price.

It's definitely worth having insurance i have bricked two phones over the past 3 years and I have gotten a replacement free of charge trough Sprint, now Asurion is a very crappy insurance service, They wanted to charge me 500 usd for a broken HTC Evo Design that had been run over and sent back for replacement.]

I went with the best buy insurance. There is no deductible but they do not cover lost or stolen phones. Plus if you pay for the full 2 years at once they give you a discount. I believe it came out to $170, which is about $7 a month.

This is the number 1 reason I went with Sprint's TEP.
Worst case, I pay $150 for a new phone, and if it an actual hardware issue (not water or something "I" did) Sprint replaces it for free.
I got a replacement ET4G (bad GPS), and 2 replacement Samsung Moments (Bad USB Ports) all for free. Also got a replacement moment when it was less than 2 months old (stolen) for $100.
IMO, if you don't have some sort of insurance on your phone, you're nuts.
over two years with insurance if you file a claim, you will spend $414. if you break your phone without insurance the phone will cost $549.
personally, i have two children under three years old that throw objects very well. that includes cell phones laying around, so i have insurance on it
if you break your phone without insurance the phone will cost $549.
YOu're forgetting phone prices come down substantially after the first 6 months...
Personally I have only needed insurance once... paid 150 deductible for what would have cost me at most $200 to buy off ebay/craigslist for the same 'used' phone. Could have saved myself the year of premiums.
Didn't buy the insurance on the S3...remember manufacturer defects are still covered under it's warranty as well. (Though I don't recall how long that is just now... 90 day, or 1 yr).

Personnal preference is squaretrade. Wait for a 30% discount and it will be $95 for two years of coverage
Insurance, isnt always for you. its a given that youll be babying your phone. it covers the world around you. Sprint - Asurion TEP bills your cellphone to your account at your request. the only caveat is that its 150 dollar every claim deductable. im replacing my galaxy s3 in an insurance claim and since its so new its still currently on backorder. but they say itll take 5-7 business days. normally if you get your claim in before 10pm you get a new device out within 24 hours. its quite nice when it works as it should.
I just realized that because I have Insurance on my phone it gives me the ability to locate, lock, sound an alarm and wipe (even thought it only wipes contacts which is pointless) my phone remotely. I tested it out and its pretty cool, the alarm works even if the phone is on silence and the lock stays on even after reboot even though if the person is smart they can just boot into recovery and wipe the phone but most thieves are not that smart. The location feature was also able to pin point my phone at my house on a map. Just figured I'd let anyone else know who has insurance on their phone that might not know about this app.

I think you can get a slightly cheaper insurance package and use something like lookout mobile security to cover the lost phone scenarios. Just a thought. I don't know how much your plan is and all that but for me insurance is like 6 bucks for loss or damage and the extra security features are like 3 dollars more or something.

Well I was paying 7.99 for PHP bundle which includes loss, theft, damage, and mobile security. I guess tmo is increasing the cost of the note 2 PHP to 11.99 but my big thing that I like is having the warranty because no matter how long to have the phone you can send it back and get a new one for $5. I think paying 11.99 is still worth knowing I wont have to pay 600+ for a phone if i break mine or it gets stolen. The Mobile Security is just a plus.

Yeah 130 is better than 600. I remember when insurance was like 3.99 and the replacment phone was free. Too many people took advantage of it and thats why the rate keeps going up along with the deductible.

It is not unlimited, there is a set amount of claims you can make per year.
12 dollar pee month times 12 144 dollars person year times 2 is 288 dollars over the lifetime of a two year contract. Pretty pricey. And isn't there a deductible. 288 plus 130 is 418.
Dang that's a lot of money. Plus I never end up keeping the phone for that long anyways. That 418 dollars would have been applied to the note 3.

Who is yours through? $170 is kinda ridiculous.
I stand corrected. Just got a letter saying they were gonna bump up the rates. $12 a month plus $175 deductible. So that's $463 for 2 years. I think I'm gonna go ahead and cancel my insurance.

Also its nice to know that the ratez can and will increase, wonder what the basis is? I think id be puttin up a little more of a fight considering I was quoted at 130 upon new customer purchase of my GNII

T-Mobile never asked if you want the coverage when you bought it? They tend to offer you everything they can to meet their monthly sales quotas, surprised they didn't, but if it's been 30 days like you said, it's too late now, you're SOL. Same with Square Trade, seems like 30 days is the standard to decide if you want insurance or not. You don't get forever to enroll, like a car or a house, it'd be too easy, having no insurance, break your phone, buy the insurance then. The next day, file a claim, pay the $175 deductible and wait for a refurbed one, in the mail. Essentially, scoring a $700 or more phone for just $175, never needing to pay the monthly premium and canceling the insurance after receiving the phone...
Wouldnt be realistic... The cell phone insurance industry, wouldn't be in existance if they allowed enrollment anytime or just whenever you're convenient! Its a business for profit industry, not a charitible one. ObamaPhonecares got my vote!

What?? So you never checked to find out the phones market price, prior to paying the $580? How do you usually establish an items value? Asking since the process is obviously foreign to you, how do you prevent yourself from gettin ripped off, every time you buy something or what steps do you take to inform yourself that you aren't over paying on your purchases?
Its clear you got lucky with this phone, as you're now just learning this but, much after forking over nearly 6 notes on it, I'm picturing a loose canon for some reason.. .
I wouldn't be too surprised, either, if you're in the wrong forum, this one's for the S6 Edge+ <---- (notice the "plus" sign at the end), not to be confused with the S6 Edge <---- (no plus sign)..
Differences: 1/2 inch of more screen, 1GB of RAM, 400mAh battery and about $100-150 more in retail price on the "+" model.
See history repeating itself all the time, as I'm having a strong sense of it here..
Wages on this... anyone?
Look on swappa.com . they advertise on xda for christ sake. S6 edge+ for 580.00 they have att, tmobile and sprint..protected by paypal payment system. I have bought 6 phones and never had a problem. I have been on xda for 3 yrs and have been modding phones since 2009.

Ive dropped mine a lot over the past two weeks on concrete, tile and metal. Mostly against the carpet floor. Im using a hybrid verus high pro shield case and some screen protector from dmax armor that is already coming off.
Ive read the dramatic instant shatter posts and it made me extremely paranoid. But then i fell asleep with it a few nights in a row completely pressed against it with my body and no harm or foul.
Im definately not a extra careful user but i do invest in protection and i use my phone from 0300 to 2100 and some nights later until i fall asleep.
So basically, @LiniXpir8, you are technology addict like the rest of us here? Lol.
