I just realized that because I have Insurance on my phone it gives me the ability to locate, lock, sound an alarm and wipe (even thought it only wipes contacts which is pointless) my phone remotely. I tested it out and its pretty cool, the alarm works even if the phone is on silence and the lock stays on even after reboot even though if the person is smart they can just boot into recovery and wipe the phone but most thieves are not that smart. The location feature was also able to pin point my phone at my house on a map. Just figured I'd let anyone else know who has insurance on their phone that might not know about this app.

I think you can get a slightly cheaper insurance package and use something like lookout mobile security to cover the lost phone scenarios. Just a thought. I don't know how much your plan is and all that but for me insurance is like 6 bucks for loss or damage and the extra security features are like 3 dollars more or something.

Well I was paying 7.99 for PHP bundle which includes loss, theft, damage, and mobile security. I guess tmo is increasing the cost of the note 2 PHP to 11.99 but my big thing that I like is having the warranty because no matter how long to have the phone you can send it back and get a new one for $5. I think paying 11.99 is still worth knowing I wont have to pay 600+ for a phone if i break mine or it gets stolen. The Mobile Security is just a plus.

The only bad part is the 130 dollar deductible lol. That will go down the longer you have the phone though.
I went through that like 2 weeks after I got mine. Dropped it and broke the screen. Ended up getting a brand new one in the box the next day. Can't complain about that.

Yeah 130 is better than 600. I remember when insurance was like 3.99 and the replacment phone was free. Too many people took advantage of it and thats why the rate keeps going up along with the deductible.

It is not unlimited, there is a set amount of claims you can make per year.
12 dollar pee month times 12 144 dollars person year times 2 is 288 dollars over the lifetime of a two year contract. Pretty pricey. And isn't there a deductible. 288 plus 130 is 418.
Dang that's a lot of money. Plus I never end up keeping the phone for that long anyways. That 418 dollars would have been applied to the note 3.

Pretty sure I just got mine replaced a month ago. It's $130 through tmob and asurion.
Who is yours through? $170 is kinda ridiculous.
I stand corrected. Just got a letter saying they were gonna bump up the rates. $12 a month plus $175 deductible. So that's $463 for 2 years. I think I'm gonna go ahead and cancel my insurance.

There definitely are more power security apps out there, but knowing that there is already the groundwork there straight outta the box is pretty nice (still requires some form of setup which means users are only saved time for however long it takes to install an app... not sure why though as its not like they dont have all that info upon signup) but ultimately knowing its through the carrier itself is reassuring... be nice to see added features like gotya picture reporting and the like but maybe one day
Also its nice to know that the ratez can and will increase, wonder what the basis is? I think id be puttin up a little more of a fight considering I was quoted at 130 upon new customer purchase of my GNII

It's the fine print at the bottom where they say rates and services subject to change without notice. Hahaha. But ya I'm gonna drop insurance on mine. I've already had one replacement for this one and at 12 dollars a month for 2 years plus 175 is 463 dollars. No thanks. By this time next year I can buy a brand new one for that price.

Depends entirely on if you will end up utilizing it. Genetally speaking it's a rip off. Do you know what the deductable is? It's a lot. For the average chance, burning cash.

I do not know the deductible. The insurance just carried over from my previous phone. If I ever break it and have to use the insurance to replace it, do you think it will matter that I rooted it? Because if it does, then obviously I'll cancel it
Sent from my EVOot using XDA App
If you break the phone and its replaced by the insurance company its $100. I don't think it really matters if its rooted or not if you get it replaced by the insurance. If you go to the sprint store for them to fix i think it would matter if its rooted.

Lemme put it to you like this:
New EVO: $500
Insurance (deposit and all that): $7 per month ($87 annually)
Insurance deductible: $100
So if you brick your phone, it's lost/stolen, smashed, what have you, after 12 months, it will cost you $187 to replace it. That's $313 less than retail.
Even if you replace your phone after two years, (and let's say the cost of the EVO drops from $500 to $400, and you don't want to renew your contract and thus get a new phone quite yet), it will still cost less ($274, therefore $126 less than retail).
And yes, you can get your phone replaced if you brick it. How? Just go to Sprint, tell them that you lost your phone or that it was stolen. Congrats, you now have a spare battery, charger, and Micro SD card!
Seriously, it's a good deal as far as I'm concerned, just talking numbers.

If you want to talk numbers, you must consider the odds of breaking the phone. Its not guaranteed that you will break the phone. If you have say 4 phones(family plan) and they all have insurance. Then Your family end up breaking one of the phones in this 2 year period. Total cost? 4 phones x 24 months x $7 tep charge + $100 deduct = $772. Cost of retail? $499 or so. In this scenario, insurance isn't worth it. If however, 2 of the 4 phones break, the cost is then $872...getting closer to that mark...

It boils down to Sprint being able to take advantage of the aggregate combined with a general misunderstanding of statistics. For a given year, the question boils down to "do yoy have a greater than 25% chance of breaking your phone."

Helped Out My Son
Well, my son dropped his EVO two weeks after getting it. The screen shattered and it was replaced for the $100 deductible. So, with three EVOs on our plan we just need another break/loss in the next couple of years to be in the money.
If I was a betting man, I would bet that my Offensive Lineman will sometime break his pone in the next two years, so for us it is helpful. It all depends (as stated earlier) on the statistics. Insurance is all about shared risk ... thanks for sharing his risk if you participate

Haha, I like that.
I myself like having Sprint's insurance for the sole fact of if I ever do really damage my phone or drop it in water, etc. I can get a new one for the 100, and who doesn't like a bright new shiny phone. ... And lets say i just damage everything but the screen, i would remove my old scree to have as a backup. Or maybe even sell.
Don't forget they may give you a refurbished phone.

For me, I'm the only person on my plan, and I work Facilities and Maintenance, meaning I'm constantly running around inside, around, and on top of a building, around heavy machinery, crawling through a plenum, and so on. The chance of me breaking or dropping my phone? Pretty high. And considering that it's not the best-paying job around, having insurance just seemed like the smartest move.

Dont rely only on me, but I am pretty sure they will, so long as you are on a monthly plan, not prepaid. Verify that though!
I have heard a few times that using Asurion is a bit more expensive than other options, just fyi. It is convenient though.

I use "I take extreme care for my devices and know how to fix them should something happen to them insurance" for all insurance companies rip you off. I'll tell you my story with my HTC touch pro 2 that I had gotten replaced via insurance.....
(Short version)
Phone flew down steps landed on concrete floor. Turned into confetti.
Called asurion. 100 bucks for deductible. After paying over 200 in monthly bills.(could have bought a brand new one from eBay for 150 at the time, didn't realize this till after I replaced it)
Got replacement, didn't work. Got second replacement. Still didn't work. Got third replacement(was extremely pissed by now) and ripped apart both 2nd replacement and 3rd and combined all the good parts to make a good phone.
And ever since then, I will never waste my money on insurance for my phone. It's nothing but a waste of money.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Ya I understand all that lol. But I go out and camp, fish, go boating, drink, and house parties and what not (immature 23 year old) so I've used my insurance a few times; once with my G1 (stolen) twice with my MyTouch 3G (stolen, and then dropped which caused a weird ear piece sound while on call). So I like insurance and haven't been screwed over. Never had any issues with my G2X or the S3 so I've grown up a little and love my phones more now, haha.
I was going to ask the same thing but given that you asked it already, I'd like to see other responses. So far I've only had SquareTrade Warranty on multiple devices. I still haven't had to file a claim but the thing that I like is if I sell one of my devices, I can cancel my plan and get a prorated refund. I'm not sure if other companies do that.
I recently got my Samsung Galaxy S3 and haven't made a decision on what company to choose. Ensquared is cheaper and they claim to cover theft and accidental, all for $59 for 1 year. If anybody has dealt with them, can you please give us some insight?
I just called Samsung service centre in Quebec to enquire about screen replacement cost and they quoted me $275+tax and also they ll take 15 days ( which includes both sides shipping and repair time.)
As a side note...my screen is fine... I just wanted to know cost.
For those that don't know, square trade is a pretty good deal.

I was going to buy square trade also, but its $125 + $99 deposit for any claim. Been looking at ensquared recently and it's $99 + $75 (first time claim) deposit, so hopefully that will be worth it. Prices are for 2 years
I believe square trade do not cover theft so I decided to go with

deductible is $50 and you are not limited to just 2 claims a year.
You don't have to throw that down at square trade, you can pay roughly $6/mo, though in the long run that would be cheaper, but I'd probably have a new phone before then as fast as new tech is coming out these days... but yeah $90 deductible sucks, but good for screen breaks which is over $200

Worth ave group is cheaper and they have been around for past 40 years and I have read good reviews on them. You can chose between 1, 2 or 3 year plan. 1 year plan is like 50 dollar and if you search online, sometimes they have 10 or 15 percent discount on total. I just hope I never have to use them but I rather be safe than sorry. So if someone steals your phone, you are pretty much screwed with Square Trade.

best insurance I found is worth ave group.
with coupon codes its $66.20 a year for $2000 in coverage unlimited usage and $25 deductible.
Covers damage and theft but not loss then again if its lost IT IS stolen so file a police report.
sprints TEP is $11 a month in other words $132 a year AND the deductible is $200 !!! and IIRC you can only use it once a year (I could be wrong on that)
I think worth without coupon code is $75 a year or something like that. way way cheaper and better than sprints tep and it covers all your toys (I have all my phones my laptop and my camera's on it)
just sign up for the student plan.
Squaretrade

It is $11 for the note 2...and the gps tracking is optional. If you don't set it up before hand it won't work. Not to mention most stolen phones are either imediately turned off or hard reset. (though I have talked to a few people that have found their phone this way)

your right sorry
they do not
Sprints coverage has 2 parts. One is insurance and the other is tep. The insurance is from asurion, you pay 200 and they ship you a new phone and you get it by the next business day. The tep which is total equipment protection is used whenever you have a problem with your phone that isn't covered under warranty anymore. For example if your speaker goes out they will fix it for free or if like me your screen starts messing up they will get you a whole new phone. If not for that then I would have to take the Samsung warranty and they ask that you mail it to them, wait while they fix it and then they ship it back. It can take from 2 to 3 weeks. Sprint will still check your phone but fixing it will cost 35 or more I believe. I think its 8 for insurance and 5 for tep, but I believe the insurance used to be 6. Not quite sure about any of this as it is just off the top of my head. I do know that the 11 or 13 package has 2 parts.
I have best buy insurance. $169 one time charge (you can opt for monthly) and no deductible ever.
Guaranteed 5 day turn around, they give you a loaner in the meantime.
I don't think they cover theft, perhaps if you have a police report.

I have best buy insurance. $169 one time charge (you can opt for monthly) and no deductible ever.
Guaranteed 5 day turn around, they give you a loaner in the meantime.
I don't think they cover theft, perhaps if you have a police report.

best buy does not cover lost or stolen
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Best buy covers absolutely everything except lost or stolen. Unlimited claims and no deductible! They order you a new phone and give you a loaner If you need one. As far as lost or stolen, if you have their geek squad, there is a free app called locked And found that tracks where your phone is and takes pictures of what it sees with the front facing camera (a thiefs face maybe?) and reports to a website only you have access to.
For those who have the protection plan get a hold of your gsp# off your receipt because the app asks for it, or call best buy mobile.

The best buy program is junk. I had it and tried to get it fixed while traveling. First of all the replacement store would only give me a loner if I was able to return it to the same store. Now someone traveling like I was is screwed plus the loner was any phone not the same phone. The second issue was they said my phone wasn't broke enough because my problem was intermittent. They actually told me to go back to the parking and break the screen then they would replace it.

Not trying to be a argumentative but I don't think your complaints are valid.
1) I understand requiring you to return to the same store is not as convenient as possible... but creating the infrastructure to manage inter-store returns for loaner require technology investments which would surely increase the cost of insurance. Besides, most insurance programs don't even have this feature. It's inconvenient for travelers but making accomodations for such cases may not necessarily be worth the investment.
Also, loaners are temporary. To match your phone... and everyone else's, best buy must have at least one of every phone ever, for each store. (At least within the last two years). Do you expect them to open a new box everytime they dont have a matching loaner availabe?...assuming they even have them in stock?
As per your second complaint I don't know what the problem was, but bb doesn't automatically do replacements. .. instead will do repairs on fixable problems. Correct me but I believe that's what happened. They offered to do a repair but you wanted a replacement.
I think the only thing you can criticize bb for is they were asking you to commit insurance fraud.

its not even insurance. its a protection plan. similar, but not the same thing. i dont know if you can call it insurance fraud unless it is underwritten by an indemnity company.
that being said, you are correct, sir.
Sprint TEP + Kaspersky One, insurance and the ability to track, lock and wipe your phone.
You can also take pictures of the person using it.
It's win....
I dumped sprint insurance after having it on multiple phones for over 8 years. Monthly charge and deductible for the note were way too high for me. I switched to ensquared (or something like that)

Don't get me wrong, this phone is sexy as all hell and it's amazing to have, but PLEASE DEFINITELY GET INSURANCE, Because I know so many people who's brand new + shattered itself to pieces in more ways than one. Thanks :good:
I think I have had this phone for a month now. I do not have insurance on the phone, how would I go about getting insurance?

Where did you find all of the people with who have screens that cracked by them selves. I only counted 3 in your other thread of this forum and found 0 in all of the other edge + forums on xda including the international section. As with everything ever created on the planet their will be a certain number of defects. Some will be on public forums , some wont but it is no reason to start fear mongering.

Call t-mobile and ask them to add insurance for 8$ a month. Deductible is 175$ but that's cheaper than 900$ for a total out of pocket replacement
900 dollars? I bought a new sealed tmob s6edge plus for 580.00.

T-Mobile never asked if you want the coverage when you bought it? They tend to offer you everything they can to meet their monthly sales quotas, surprised they didn't, but if it's been 30 days like you said, it's too late now, you're SOL. Same with Square Trade, seems like 30 days is the standard to decide if you want insurance or not. You don't get forever to enroll, like a car or a house, it'd be too easy, having no insurance, break your phone, buy the insurance then. The next day, file a claim, pay the $175 deductible and wait for a refurbed one, in the mail. Essentially, scoring a $700 or more phone for just $175, never needing to pay the monthly premium and canceling the insurance after receiving the phone...
Wouldnt be realistic... The cell phone insurance industry, wouldn't be in existance if they allowed enrollment anytime or just whenever you're convenient! Its a business for profit industry, not a charitible one. ObamaPhonecares got my vote!

What?? So you never checked to find out the phones market price, prior to paying the $580? How do you usually establish an items value? Asking since the process is obviously foreign to you, how do you prevent yourself from gettin ripped off, every time you buy something or what steps do you take to inform yourself that you aren't over paying on your purchases?
Its clear you got lucky with this phone, as you're now just learning this but, much after forking over nearly 6 notes on it, I'm picturing a loose canon for some reason.. .
I wouldn't be too surprised, either, if you're in the wrong forum, this one's for the S6 Edge+ <---- (notice the "plus" sign at the end), not to be confused with the S6 Edge <---- (no plus sign)..
Differences: 1/2 inch of more screen, 1GB of RAM, 400mAh battery and about $100-150 more in retail price on the "+" model.
See history repeating itself all the time, as I'm having a strong sense of it here..
Wages on this... anyone?
Look on swappa.com . they advertise on xda for christ sake. S6 edge+ for 580.00 they have att, tmobile and sprint..protected by paypal payment system. I have bought 6 phones and never had a problem. I have been on xda for 3 yrs and have been modding phones since 2009.
Phones aren't cracking themselves. Idiots are cracking them due to user error then running amuck online with BULLCHIT stories in an attempt to justify their own mistake.

Absolutely true! I have dropped my edge+ more times than I want to admit and it has come out unscathed. Granted, I've got a Spigen case and a screen protector but it's taken some 4ft drops and survived.
Ive dropped mine a lot over the past two weeks on concrete, tile and metal. Mostly against the carpet floor. Im using a hybrid verus high pro shield case and some screen protector from dmax armor that is already coming off.
Ive read the dramatic instant shatter posts and it made me extremely paranoid. But then i fell asleep with it a few nights in a row completely pressed against it with my body and no harm or foul.
Im definately not a extra careful user but i do invest in protection and i use my phone from 0300 to 2100 and some nights later until i fall asleep.
So basically, @LiniXpir8, you are technology addict like the rest of us here? Lol.
