Does anyone on the ga10 leak still experience the phantom buttons yet? I haven't actually noticed it since the fk23 leak, and haven't seen anyone post about it lately. Did Sammy fix it? I did flash back to ics and got it a few times, but I haven't noticed it on jelly bean at all.
Edit: just noticed I'm in general and not Q&A. Can a mod please move this?

It happens to me in every single ROM or Stock I had flashed.
I've only had the problem on EL29, and on MIUI.us ROMs. No problems on GA10 though.
It's hardware, not software. Normally happens in low signal areas.

I got my phone replaced for a non related issue last month and the problem is still there. So this "solution" is bs.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Had the same issue with phantom button presses and did some searching. Decided to get the digitizer replaced as suggested....haven't had the problem since.
Good luck!
I have had this problem on several of my phones. I purchased a slightly used black SGII that came stock with FF18 I believe, the phone was not rooted when I bought it and the person I bought it from did not know anything about rooting (of course this is just my guess and if the person was being truthful, which I think they were). I don't remember if I rooted it right away or if I left it stock for a few days but I noticed the phantom button presses pretty much right away. I then flashed one of the first JB leaks and the phantom buttons happened much much more frequently.
Brought phone into store to have it replaced, received a replacement refurb phone that come with latest official and it did not have the phantom button press issue. Pretty much rooted and flashed that phone shortly after and immediately started having phantom button presses. This replacement phone had GPS issues, and by GPS issues I mean the GPS would never lock even using the apps from the market. So I went back to and requested yet another replacement phone. Got the replacement refurb and tested GPS and it worked, so that was good and the phone did not have any phantom button issues either. Well I have left this phone bone stock, not even rooted and to this day I still have not had any phantom button presses like I did when I rooted and started flashing.
I know I know, it is a hardware issue, but myself and a few others have also noticed this issue happened AFTER rooting/flashing a phone we just received from Sprint. While on one of the JB leaks my phone would go through a a full minute where the buttons just kept being pressed and I could not do anything on the phone.
I have had two white SGIIs, one that I used myself for a while that I flashed very often and gave to my wife with Calkulins GB 3.0 on it. This phone never had any phantom button issues when either of us used it. The screen on that phone broke and was not usable so I had to get her another one, found a decent price on one that was working great just had some cosmetic blemishes on the case. Left that phone bone stock for her as well and that phone has never had any phantom button issues as well.
Whatever the cause of this issue is, I have noticed that it starts happening after you start rooting/flashing your phone. And even if you try to go back to the latest stock unrooted, which myself and another forum member have done, you will have the problem. But replacement phones from Sprint have not exhibited this issue.
I battled my Sprint store on this, as the technician couldn't reproduce it. And sure enough, as long as I'm running the stock ROM the technician flashed (flashing it myself did nothing to help), I don't experience the problem. The MOMENT I rooted the phone, and on all subsequent ROMs including stock, I had the problem again.
The above is interesting, though, and hopefully now I can talk the technician into doing something for me. I'll just hate to have to flash back to stock once again, and I'd hate to root it again afterwards and have the problem come back.
I have had this phone for 2 years today, phantom buttons started right out of the box stock gb at the time. Rooted and same problem, never took it in for a replacement this thing has been solid as a rock for me. After I rooted and flashed a stock ics rom it only happened in low signal areas. Now though I'm running the latest ga10 leak and have ran all but the very 1st fl04 jb leak, I have not experienced a single phantom button issue at all

My wife also has the white E4GT and has never had any phantom presses. For me, I'm on my 4th black E4GT in 8 months. All of them have had the phantom presses and for me, there has been NO correlation between the problem and being stock or rooted. I left my first 2 black S2's stock for several week, and had phantom presses with low signal right away. Rooting and flashing to another ROM never made it better or worse. But my wife has had her white version the entire time and NEVER had a single phantom press. Can anyone else testify to this? It should be friggin' illegal for either Sprint or Samsung to sell this phone with a bug like this. These phones were expensive, and at one point top of the line, and we all paid for them to WORK.
Sidenote: I have found a full-proof workaround for the phantom presses. I'm running Sniper's BAKED BlackBlean 4.2.1, which of course, includes the option to enable the Navbar/softkeys. Then I downloaded the Button Remapper app and changed the function of all the capacative keys to "Focus" which is, essentially, nothing. The BAKED ROM has the Galaxy S II Settings so I could also turn on the backlight on the keys. So now my capacative keys do NOTHING, which means they CAN'T phantom press, and I just use the navbar/softkeys. Not perfect, but infinitely better than dealing with the phantom presses on a daily basis.

My Evo has been acting up lately. It randomly reboots at least 10-20 times a day. I thought it was probably an app causing the reboots so I wiped my phone and still does this. It especially doesn't like to stay on with the Navi on. It started on Myns RLS 4 and after flashing Fresh 3.5 and still does this. I've tried flashing different kernels from stock to Netarchys to kings to ziggys to alleviate this issue. I've even resorted to flashing the stock rom and kernel combo but no go. HW version 0002, latest radios, latest PRI, running Fresh 3.5, with Nets 4.19 CFS nohavs. Anybody running similar combos with the same problems please let me know what I could do to fix this issue other than to unroot and go to Sprint for a new Evo.

Yep, get it back to "normal" and take it in. Mine was in the same boat, it wouldn't reboot if I just let the phone sit there but once I launched the browser or navigation it would just reboot. Then it started boot looping. Maddening. Sprint was cool and seems like most haven't had issues returning / receiving with this issue.
I was hoping it was a software issue. I've had this phone since launch day and has been rooted since I got it. No problems until a couple of days ago. Looks like I'm going to have to unroot and return to stock so I can try to get another Evo from Sprint. I hope Sprint doesn't try to jerk me. Thanks guys

How'd you do that. Only problem I'm foreseeing is replicating the reboots. It hasn't randomly rebooted as of 11 am today. I made sure to talked to Sprint tech support so they can document my problem. As soon as I get home I'm unrooting and going to stock. Tech Guy told me Sprint repair center should just swap my phone the same day

So finally after taking my phone to a 3rd party repair center, raising hell with Sprint, and taking it to a corporate store I got my new Evo. First store I took it to were no help. Told me my phone had liquid damage without even opening my phone, I never dropped it in water or exposed it to water. Called Sprint and customer service was no help, call got escalated to customer priority service next day and they told me to take it into a corporate store. Tech reset my phone and my phone still randomly rebooted in the Store so they had to give me a replacement phone. New phone was a version 0003 and had the radio and rom that shipped on launch date. Rooted my phone and installed Flipz's rom with net's kernel immediately after getting home. Problem free since. I noticed that new phone uses a different panel. Screen seem to look more natural in terms of color. Previous Evo had a screen that was unusually bright and had light leakage around the capacitive buttons. Battery life is fantastic for some reason because I was running the exact same setup previously and I was getting around 9-12 hours on a full charge. I'm getting between 12-17 hours between charges in the past 5 days I've had this replacement phone.

I just got a used Epic Touch 4g from Cowboom. Today is the first day using it and I really like it. However I am having some weird issues. While the phone is on and I am either in a browser (Dolphin, Stock) or an app the 4 capacitve buttons will light up automatically. Then sometimes after they light up at the bottom of the screen the Options menu will show up. When this happens the phone haptic feed back goes off.
Anyone know what is going on and possibly a solution before returning? I really don't want to return this phone.
I'm having the exact same issue. It started doing this since I installed the "official" ICS. I didn't have this issue with GB. I have not gone back to GB since I really like ICS...

Same here I noticed this randomly since I have been on Official ICS.
Has this phone been out for over a year? Since I bought it used I don't know if there is any manufacturer's warranty left on it. I didn't purchase insurance.
I had the same issue for months but only when cell service was crappy. They replaced the screen at the Sprint store and it never happened again.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I had something similar going on. I called Sprint a few times and ended up going into one of the stores with a service center. I left it for about 45 minutes and the guy said the cable that connects the front capacitive buttons had come loose. I haven't had any issues like this in two months, simple fix. Also, I had an ICS rom on the device prior to the official release and the guy didn't say a thing.
Good luck.
Kyle
How long has this phone been out? Is there a one year manufacturers warranty? I may need to see if I can take advantage of that since I didn't purchase insurance.
this is a known issue, if you search the forum you'll find lots of examples of it, most have just taken it to sprint, even w/o insurance they probably fix it/swap it out for the $35 as this seems to be a common problem

I thought this was a common problem with AOSP builds.
It only happens to me when I lose signal.
But this is a hardware problem?

Yeah this is the first time I heard about it being a hardware (screen) issue too. I never had it happen across all GB ROMs, and just about every leaked ICS build. I didn't experience it until I flashed CM9.

I haven't experienced any button lockups, only phantom menu button spam when I hit a extremely low signal. This only happened to me in the 10 months I've owned this phone, after flashing CM9.
I've noticed this when plugged into a car charger and using navigation in spotty service areas. I always thought it was a heat/capacitance issue.

i work in the sprint store and in the past few days we have gotten at least 4 people with an epic touch still running gingerbread (with no option to update to ics) having issues with the bottom buttons not responding, touch screen acting weird, vibration activating sporadically, and with one case the media scanner runs in a loop. the only way to solve these issues have been to factory reset. but could only be temporary. the customers havnt returned. these issues have not just been happening on older devices but recent activation's.
is this a common issue? is there a fix? (without rooting!) we are a sprint store. we cant promote that lol

I thought the same thing but its been mostly from well established customers. It may have just been a coincidence but I'll see how this week turns out. The factory resets seem to have fixed the issues. Just could have been gingerbread getting confused after being used for awhile lol. Which brings me to another question.. is there any way to push the ics update to an epic touch that's still on gingerbread without Odin. Keep in mind this is a sprint store and we are very limited on our resources

Yes I experience this on rooted stock. I have also noticed it do this for the "right click" button also. I don't know why. Thinking about flashing something to try and ditch it. I just love stock with nova. Don't really see a reason to switch. Battery life is amazing. Take it to Sprint ASAP. This happened to me a few months after getting my phone and I got it replace right there the same day. If they try to screw you saying "the phone has a chip on the screen we can't test it out and take it apart" blah blah blah. Throw in there that the phone overheats while charging and when in use and they will change their tune quickly. When the S2 came out I got one that got extremely hot when charging almost to the point of blistering my hand without the battery cover. I took it back and they replaced it quick as hell lol. When I took it in for the power issue i had a small chip in the corner of my screen and they refused to replace the phone because they couldnt test the power button thing due to not being able to take apart the screen without causing further damage to the phone. They wouldn't budge even though I had issurance since day 1. Decided to tell them about the overheating issue and the tech told me hold on and came back in 5 minutes with a new white one (I had a black one) and I left the same day. Black was on backorder for 14 days and I was not going to have a phone that kept rebooting making it basicly useless for 2 weeks.
TL;DR Take it to Sprint ASAP. The Fix is free and mention it overheats to extreme temps and it'll be replace on the spot or when they receive a replacement from sprint. 3 days max.
