Hey! Thanks for checking in! I came up with an idea for an invention that I think will be a huge success! My idea involves developing hardware for specific, ios, Android and WM8 smartphones (Tablets included), to increase storage capacity. From ios to android consumers want more storage for their mobile devices. The potential to have 500GB of storage on-the-fly for your iphone 5 or Galaxy S III is immense.
My invention connects seamlessly to your smartphone for added flexibility and mobility - you can workout or even go jogging without the use of a flimsy otg cable or unnecessary WiFi hard drive. One of my biggest hurdles will be developing this tech in a very small footprint that connects seamlessly with your target device. Files are stored locally via SD or microSD without the use of cloud storage (Cloud storage can be your worst enemy if your not on a unlimited data plan). Alongside having all your media in one place, we also support OTG + Power so get the extra juice you need to run all your devices.
With progressive HD content and smartphones being effective laptop replacements, having more storage has become essential. My biggest concern is making sure this invention is affordable, pricing this tech at around 40 to 50 USD I feel is both reasonable and affordable - so you can enjoy all your media anywhere you go!
Invention details:
- Maximum Storage capacity of 256GB not including your internal storage
(Depending on your device you can can max out your storage capacity to 384GB).
- Change SD or microSD on the fly (SD SDHC SDXC microSD microSDHC microSDXC)
- Unit will allow for flexibility and mobility
- All your data will be stored locally
- Supports OTG + Power
Other supported products in the future:
- Samsung Galaxy nexus
- Nexus 4
- Nexus 7
- Nexus 10
- Droid Razr
- Samsung Galaxy S II
- Samsung Galaxy Note
- Samsung Galaxy Note II
- iphone
- ipad
More Devices to come...
I want to start an open discussion about the future of this invention, please leave your feedback and any insights you have. This invention will be in the market in 3 months time starting with the Samsung Galaxy S III for all carriers.
UPDATE:
Im working on a new tech start up, I need a skilled individual proficient in product viz & 3D Design to help kick-start a large scale Indiegogo & Internet campaign. Due to the nature of this project i can only share very little until i have you sign a Non-disclosure agreement. pm me for more details.
Indiegogo is an amazing platform funded by the people for the people, with the help of this great community here at XDA lets make this campaign a success! All details and specification will be released once product viz & 3D Designs are completed.
Thank you to everyone who's supporting this project. Without the great community here at XDA, I would never have made it this far. Thank you!
Sounds awesome. Do you have pictures? I can always use more storage. How much would something like this cost?
MOD EDIT: Please don't quote the entire OP...
Looking AWESOME!
I though my 32gb sd + 16gb on board was enough but sometimes i need more space...
I can't carry my external disk wherever i go!
Sounds pretty good, but can you give us more details?
What's the shape, is it a multislot case maybe or something like that?
I'm really curious :cyclops:
Thanks!
Re: Necessity is the mother of invention - Increase storage capacity to 256GB or more
Interested in seeing what this would look like. Probably won't be cheap.

No pictures yet but I will have the first fully functional prototype ready to go in one month. My biggest concern is to make sure this product is affordable. At launch i will not include a SD or microSD card due to high cost flash memory. The unit will cost around 40 to 50 USD. I will include a built in SD & microSD card reader compatible with these standards: SD SDHC SDXC microSD microSDHC microSDXC

I'm limited in the exact details that i will give until i receive my pending patent. The finished product will be slim, lightweight and connects seamlessly to your device.
The device is also multislot and compatible with these standards: SD SDHC SDXC microSD microSDHC microSDXC
IMO this sounds VERY promising for $40 even if I have to use my own SD or micro SD card. Can't wait to see what it actually looks like.
Re: Necessity is the mother of invention - Increase storage capacity to 256GB or more
Not to thread crap, but what advantage will this have l over the $5 SD to micro adapter I bought to put a 128gb SD card in my phone?
if the price is reasonable and the profile is slim it sounds like you've got a winner

My invention will have otg support and allow you to use both SD and microsd cards on the fly. Most importantly you wont have an otg cable or adapter dangling from the bottom of your phone, potential damaging your micro usb port or constantly disconnecting. My invention will work so well you wont even notice its there allowing you effortlessly enjoy all your movies, music and pictures anywhere you go!

$40-$50...that seems reasonable...really interested, any chance of posting a picture of it? Maybe render an image of what you have in mind using a computer? Maybe have it be like a case with slots that connects through the micro USB port, sorta like a rechargeable battery case.

No pictures until i receive my pending patent, I hope you understand this is a very delicate situation. I promise i will have a fully functional prototype ready to go in less than one month w/ pictures. Its very important to me that the price is reasonable, lastly i will include support for otg + power through the micro USB port.
Re: Necessity is the mother of invention - Increase storage capacity to 256GB or more
I would definitely like to have something like this. My phone is my mp3 player and I'm not a fan of streaming my own music from a cloud, especially with sprint's slow data.

The adapter I have doesn't hook up like that. It plugs directly into the micro SD slot via ribbon cable, and is contained completely under the back cover. But, I can see the value in what you're talking about. If I may make a suggestion, if it is like a phone case, put a kickstand on the back.

What if the next generation of ultra portables has one or a couple of these in addition to the full size USB. It would encourage flash memory makers to start making micro USB flash drives (with built in OTG)?
If consumers demand it, then someone somewhere will supply it? China makes tons of niche products.
SoC manufacturers should just stop messing around and give us the large amounts of local storage we've been asking for. I can buy a 128GB flash drive that is smaller than a stick of gum, yet somehow 64GB of storage in a much larger tablet or smartphone is seen as uneconomical.
If this were desktop computers we were talking about, cloud storage would be the niche and massive local storage would be the norm. It's like nobody remembers the days when the biggest selling point of the iPod was the storage capacity. You can still get an iPod Classic with 160GB of space for only $250, but a 64GB iPhone costs $300 more than the 16GB version.
I'm convinced the flash memory market is basically a racket.

There are different types of flash memory in terms of reliability, speed, and cost. Most of the time when you talk about flash memory you're referring to NAND or NOR type memory.
NAND is cheaper to produce and is commonly used in USB drives, MP3 players, etc. due to its higher storage capacities but suffers from poor read speeds which a smartphone heavily relies on. This is where NOR memory comes in, its MUCH more expensive than NAND but gives the read performance that devices like smartphones need to simultaneously for example play music, launch an app, etc. without bringing the phone to a complete halt. This explains why the cost of storage on tablets/phones per gigabyte is much higher than for example a flash drive.
Also this:

That uses a small hard drive not flash based memory making it even cheaper in terms of gigabyte per dollar than flash memory. In general we don't use hard drives in tablets and smartphones because as a trade off you lose reliability, power consumption, and not to mention its physical size (Theres a reason the iPod classic is so thick).

This.
Desktops use DRAM for memory-intensive processes, and slower HDD-based storage for secondary media. There is no reason why a smartphone can't have 1GB of NOR reserved for the OS and RAM, and a secondary NAND-based volume for apps, games, music, etc.

I agree with earlyberd. This is exactly how people have been doing it with SSDs in computers for a while. While large SSD devices are typically prohibitively expensive. up to 7 times the cost per GB, putting a small <200 GB SSD in a computer, coupled with a larger HDD, gives both the performance for the OS and apps, and the amount of storage needed for large media libraries or work documents.

The difference in cost between the two amounts of memory is just a few dollars.
It is highly likely that the the cheap version costs MORE to produce than the expensive one.
The reason they do it is what economists call 'price targeting'
Basically, they could sell you the 64GB for the same price as the 16GB version and still make a profit. But they would lose out heavily on all those people who would have happily paid another $300 for the same product.
In an economist's perfect world Apple would sell just the 64 GB version for the manufacturing cost plus 'whatever the customer can afford', be that $20, $200 or even $2,000. This way they could maximise their profits.
But we all know they can't do that so instead they provide two versions of pretty much the same product, one for poor people and one for those with a bit more cash to flash.
Businesses have been doing this for years; second class train carriages, overpriced extras in coffee shops, different models of printers etc. The cost to the manufacturer of adding the extra 'luxury' is minimal but it encourages richer people to reveal they have more money to spend.
Hell, Amazon took the who thing one step further when they added a tracking cookie that would change the listed price of their products depending on whether you were a new or returning customer. Two people looking at the same DVD at the same time would see two very different prices (unless they deleted the cookies off their pc.
So yeah, it sucks ass for us consumers, but I don't see the problem going away any time soon. In fact I expect it to get worse and for more phone/tablet manufacturers to remove the sd slot altogether. This is a trick they won't give up on easily.
There isn't something like this out yet, is it?
Best to email sandisk about it, i did and they said that it doesn't exist but will take it into consideration depending upon interest.

It's shame that we need to dream about these kind of flash drive. The manufactures need to stop the new trend of removing sd slots.

Nice
Hurry up china I want one !
I'll give away the secrete sauce which is how Flash vendors should be making their drives...
Have you seen most of the multi-cables avaialbe now, which include a "Magnetic" end which adapts to Micro, Lightning, Type-C?
Well why hasn't this made its way to the flash media?
Why make your flash device fixed to one platform... Make it universal like cable manufacturers are!
---------- Post added at 11:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 PM ----------
And if that doesnt work, todats young generation loves keeping their fingers busy, now with the spinners. why not make a spinner flash drive?
Each of the 4 ends can have a different connector (eg: Type A, Type C, Micro, Lightning) it could be balanced by the caps so it works like a true spinner, but have flash storage, lights, you name it...
I need to stop giving away all these good concepts and get a job with a company to produce them!
Anyone Hiring?
why not use those thingies?

before you answer my question please consider the pros and cons and research i have done about both devices.
Note II:
uk has the 16gb model available ONLY and the only way to get the larger capacity models is to import, this option does not seem viable and is expensive at the time especially when import tax is in this equation too (the cost would be so expensive, i might as well get a 64gb iphone 5 for that price it would cost me)
just like i had the experience with my note 10.1 16gb is simply not enough, for apps and games, rooting my tablet has not made my situation any better, i thought a easy option of simply transferring the app data to sd card would be simple, hence why i want to avoid this hassle with the note 2 and just keep my samsung galaxy S2 which lets you move app data without root and hassle.
micro sd card prices are currently ridiculous especially for a samsung 64gb one (£60), a genuine sandisk on amazon is sold out, i do not want to buy from a 3rd party only to find that the memory card is fake, so that is another risk with the note 2.
even if i ever do find a micro sd there is not much i can do with it on current Samsung phone models anyway, yes i can transfer my music but can't do much with it, even with root.
the screen size of the note 2 is a good overall size and still fits in your pocket, the stylus pen is a bonus for me, i like using it on the note 10.1 so i would enjoy using it on the note 2, i know the screen will be good as the note 10.1 plus i have used a demo unit of the note 2 aswell and liked the screen.
micro sim, my current sim is a normal sim, i know there are devices that cut it down to size for you though.
i tried to find as much info as i can about the music features of the note 2, there was only one video available that showcased this but it was extremely limited, asked questions to uploader and as always was ignored i like the fact that i can use any app to change everything i want about the note 2 music player, the default player did not have a lot of options for music at all, no info regarding sound quality on headphone jack either, it really doesn't make it easier to choose the note 2, if anyone wants to add their experience about the music features then please do so.
Ipad mini:
memory is built in and included in the price of the device and you don't even need to buy it separate, larger screen size, better music management, better apps optimized for ipad/ipad mini, yes i am aware it has no retina display but that is what my note 10.1 is for, besides i will be mainly be using it for a mp3 player anyway.
i like to browse the internet on the go so getting a ipod touch 5g is not a option because the screen is way to small to type anything or see anything, i am used to large screen sizes anyway.
i held the ipad mini in my hand and liked the form factor of it and matt finish, the screen is good enough for me and i like the music features too which i tested out on the apple store. (same as note 2 music features are not discussed online and no youtube videos either which is a shame)

if u want better headphone volume or even more speaker volume there are mods to do that no worries.. u can customize the way u want.. if u buy note 2 rather than ipad mini it will b good u won't regret:thumbup:
You already have a Note 10.1, so that's the tablet you are using for your browsing.
You mentioned you like the form factor of the Mini. Did you not consider the Nexus 7 if you're digging the 7-8inch tablets? The Nexus 7 is cheaper by about 40%, and has higher specs.
I own both the S2, and the Note 2, and as objectively as I can tell you, you should upgrade to a Note 2, go to your carrier and swap your SIM with a microSIM.
If you really want a 7inch tablet. Sell your Note 10.1, and use the money to get a Nexus 7, the rest of the money could be used in conjunction with the sale of your S2, for a Note 2.
You have not researched enough of what possibilities the external SD card can do.
Me for example. I have switched the intSD with the extSD via a custom Kernel. So my phone shows 64GB of storage. And my extSD shows 16GB.
So storage for your phone is not a problem. The best Sandisk SD cards can be bought for £40. 64GB class 10.

the nexus 7 is a nice tablet but doesn't have expandable memory i want to use it as a mp3 player as well as internet on the go, yes i am aware of it's specs and they are impressive but no expandable memory lets it down, the note 2 is a better option in this case, also i want to keep my note 10.1 and i want a mini tablet on the go too so i don't want to sell the note 10.1 thanks.
i like the tariff that i am using on my normal sim card, i have unlimited HSPA+ data and 300 minutes free anytime on any network, you can't get that tariff on a micro sim that is why i need to cut down my sim card if i do decide to get a note 2.

I have a 64gb Sandisk in my note 2 and it cost £40 link below

I easily map any folders I want to the sd card using a tool like directory bind. 5 min job and very easy to do.
I do like the ipad mini but then again its not a phone as well so you'r not really comparing like with like.

ah, thanks for the link! will check out directory bind and see if it does the job, yeah if i keep the samsung galaxy S2 i can just use that for calls and the ipad mini for music and everything else.

i can't show that much pictures because like i said before there is little to none info online about the ipod mini music player but it's easy to use because all albums are in one place, playlists ratings feature e.t.c
albums are setup like this:

another picture of the music app
it's layed out like itunes, i keep all my music on the pc in itunes and i want similar features to itunes on the go, just a personal preference.
From your first post I can see that you have already made up your mind about the iPad mini. I too tried the iPad mini and I liked how solid it felt in my hands and the finishing is excellent no doubt. But it really comes down to you. As for me I prefer not to carry too many devices all of which can perform the same tasks. My only problem with the iPad mini or any apple product for that matter is the use of iTunes to transfer music. It's a hassle especially when you connect to a friends computer that has no iTunes installed. It just doesn't seem like a truly mobile device because you always end up with the need to be close to a pc. But if you're okay with that then by all means keep your SN2 and get the iPad mini. All the best.

that directory bind did the trick, thanks a lot for that i'm leaning more to the note 2 now because the apps problem has been sorted, see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
i also got to take into consideration that the ipad mini can't be jailbroken yet but a note 2 can be rooted so that is another plus for the note 2.
if anyone wants to add to the topic, please do.
I have an iPad 2,which is the same thing as an iPad mini. Trust me. Do not go towards apple. I have been there for the past 5 years and when I got my note 2,i wanted to slam all my apple products against the wall. Unless you use your iPad for work, you won't touch it.
Phones: iPhone 4 - > iPhone 5 - > Note 2
HUYI said:
before you answer my question please consider the pros and cons and research i have done about both devices.
Note II:
uk has the 16gb model available ONLY and the only way to get the larger capacity models is to import, this option does not seem viable and is expensive at the time especially when import tax is in this equation too (the cost would be so expensive, i might as well get a 64gb iphone 5 for that price it would cost me)
just like i had the experience with my note 10.1 16gb is simply not enough, for apps and games, rooting my tablet has not made my situation any better, i thought a easy option of simply transferring the app data to sd card would be simple, hence why i want to avoid this hassle with the note 2 and just keep my samsung galaxy S2 which lets you move app data without root and hassle.
micro sd card prices are currently ridiculous especially for a samsung 64gb one (£60), a genuine sandisk on amazon is sold out, i do not want to buy from a 3rd party only to find that the memory card is fake, so that is another risk with the note 2.
even if i ever do find a micro sd there is not much i can do with it on current Samsung phone models anyway, yes i can transfer my music but can't do much with it, even with root.
the screen size of the note 2 is a good overall size and still fits in your pocket, the stylus pen is a bonus for me, i like using it on the note 10.1 so i would enjoy using it on the note 2, i know the screen will be good as the note 10.1 plus i have used a demo unit of the note 2 aswell and liked the screen.
micro sim, my current sim is a normal sim, i know there are devices that cut it down to size for you though.
i tried to find as much info as i can about the music features of the note 2, there was only one video available that showcased this but it was extremely limited, asked questions to uploader and as always was ignored i like the fact that i can use any app to change everything i want about the note 2 music player, the default player did not have a lot of options for music at all, no info regarding sound quality on headphone jack either, it really doesn't make it easier to choose the note 2, if anyone wants to add their experience about the music features then please do so.
Ipad mini:
memory is built in and included in the price of the device and you don't even need to buy it separate, larger screen size, better music management, better apps optimized for ipad/ipad mini, yes i am aware it has no retina display but that is what my note 10.1 is for, besides i will be mainly be using it for a mp3 player anyway.
i like to browse the internet on the go so getting a ipod touch 5g is not a option because the screen is way to small to type anything or see anything, i am used to large screen sizes anyway.

honestly, i'd say the prices of microSD cards are cheap. a year ago it cost me $110AU to buy a 32gb class 10. just recently i bought a 64gb class 10 for $60AU. its a big drop.
and i believe with root, you can actually swap the microSD and internal memory around and trick your device into thinking the microSD is your internal memory partition, so you can install 64gb worth of apps.
just get a sandisk microSD card, theyre a bit faster at the moment.
the note 2 uses the wolfson/wolfsram audio chip, so audio quality is better than s2 and note 1 in terms of clarity. and what are you looking for in terms of music features? the only things i need from a music player are - lock screen widget, equaliser, good playlist support (note 2 lets me make playlists in windows media player on my pc, sync them across, and it will copy all the files across as well as make that playlist available on my note 2), repeat/shuffle. note 2 does most of these things, and i just use the google play music app to add a lockscreen widget.
personally, i'd say if youre using a device mainly for music, then im not too sure why you care so much for internal storage?
note 2 - you either love it or you hate it. just go into a store and play with one.

that's good to hear about the audio chip, can you recommend me any good music apps for the note 2? also is there a way to convert your playlists from itunes into android? that is important, also space is very important i have a 32gb music collection so i need a micro sd lol the internal storage will be used for apps and the external will be used for music i can always transfer the app data to a micro sd if it's too big anyway (as i have learned from this topic)
I was also thinking about buying a tablet. But I have bought Note 2 and I am happy I did. You have one device instead of couple. It is more comfortable. do not you think?

Hey...I have both devices and I would recommend going for the Note 2, IPad Mini is great but the note 2 is handier and also easier to take anywhere the SPen feature makes it even better and also the USB OTG feauture and MHL are added benefits, if you simply want a tablet that you can just open and go then the IPad is the way to go but if you want something that is more diverse and customisable and a cross between the both and always something new to learn then go for the note 2
also IPad fixed size but Note 2 can be almost any size

not too sure about itunes to android, i never really used itunes, lol.
the two main music apps i use on android are poweramp and google play music. poweramp has a lot more customisability and lockscreen widgets, but does cost money for some added features. google play music has less customisability, but still does everything i want it to do and is free.
Does the UHS (Ultra High Speed) feature of some Class 10 MicroSD Cards mounted in Galaxy S3 or Note2 phones sometimes decrease the reliability of those cards, leading to pre-mature card failure?
See related post at Android Forums.com written March, 2013 by a senior member there:
androidforums.com/5686850-post41.html
ouch!
When posting, is XDA trying to kill us newbies with those ridiculously complicated image verifications? Or is it just because i'm using a mobile phone with a (relatively) small screen? Sound verification is even worse--no visible virtual keyboard! I imagine XDA administrators releasing a pleasant sigh while turning a big knob that makes identity verification increasingly more complex as noobs ask the same questions (like these ones) for the upteenth time. Why can't noobs just suffer in peace? I know, not the correct forum. Nevermind (my 2nd post).
UHS conflict with S3 & Note2 (cont)
I'm thinking that maybe there's a tradeoff when designing UHS type MicroSD Cards between backward compatability with non-UHS capable devices (like S3, Note2) and top UHS speed (for UHS-enabled devices like S4, Note3). I'm not familiar with the electronic circuitry--i'm just tired of MicroSD Card unreliability as the industry standard. I'm imagining that in the design process, maybe the reliability of the card when in backward compatability mode (eg, when inserted into S3 or Note2 phones) is necessarily compromised in porportion to the optimization of the UHS circuit included for UHS-enabled devices (eg, for the S4 & Note3 phones). Anybody know anything about that?
Does the 32GB Class 10 MicroSD Card that Samsung recomends for the S3 and Note2 have the UHS feature? That would be a clue. That card is not in stock, hasn't been in stock for awhile at least, so i can't buy it to find out.
Also, why does Samsung not try to sell a more expensive (and thus more profitable) 64GB MicroSD Card to S3 and Note2 owners? That capacity is not in the list of recomended accessories for S3, Note2 on Samsung's website. Is it just to reduce calls to their customer service due to the fact that the default file system on 64GB MicroSD Cards (ie Microsoft ExFat) is not accessible to Android devices (like S3 & Note2) without a third party pay-for app (due to licensing restrictions)? Couldn't Samsung easily format those cards upon manufacture with a Linux file system instead? But i suppose then ur Windows or Mac desktop computer might be unable to read the card without 3rd party software or drivers...
I'm not asking Samsung to recomend the larger-capacity cards, i'm just wondering if this is somehow related to premature failure of some cards, and how it is related. I know some S3, Note2 users love their 64GB Samsung Pro, Class 10, UHS-1 MicroSD Card and it may last years. I'm not denying that some cards from various manufacturers and re-sellers are reliable, but industry average is abysmal (i suspect, don't know) and we can't just blame it all on eBay or China or a bad batch now and again from Sandisk who developed the technology. Something is amiss, maybe several things. I'm sure that if MicroSD Cards were made with the very expensive SLC technology (one bit per cell, instead of two or more bits per cell, or something like that), then reliability would increase, but by how much? I suspect that there may be some simple, cost-effective answers out there already known but not revealed for whatever reasons (it's a conspiracy), or perhaps i just need to learn more about it.
One informative and somewhat related white paper that i did read from NEC Labs is titled, "Revisiting Storage for Smartphones (Kim 2013)". U can google n read it for free, but it's a bit dry.
Please don't post ur personal experience with individual MicroSD Cards here in this thread, but if u read some interesting market analysis/statistics about this stuff, i for one would like to hear it. XDA was once a great forum, but now it's overgrown with the weeds of individual MicroSD Card reliability complaints (and the corresponding refutations: "Don jinx that card! Mine still works great! U musta lived a bad life!") (ha!). Admitedly, not all the bad cards are really bad, and of course proprietary file systems are often to blame: "Every time i move my 64GB MicroSD Card from my phone to my desktop computer or back i have to reformat the card, so instead, when i want to transfer files, i just email myself with the files attached". Ah, thas sad.
I have been writing to Samsung about these things and hope to post more info here if and when it arrives, but don't hold ur breath. I don't feel very well-informed.
Hi XDA friends today bought the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive and was quite impressed with the performance of it and easy to use OTG function no more OTG cable and hassle just plug and play, so sharing my thoughts on the same as was keen to check out the first Sandisk dual usb drives after its announcements Feb. 11, 2014.
BENEFITS
So,the dual USB Drives comes with a usb 2.0 on one end and micro-USB connector on the other, making it easy for file transfer between Android phone (supporting OTG) and PC. For people who are even looking for more space on their phone its a great option for them to grab one as per their need and load in music, videos, app etc.
Another useful thing about the dual usb is you can use it with your custom recovery ex.TWRP or Philz and flash Rom zip and make backup of your current rom on the breeze just by plugging it to your android device no more hassle of connecting OTG cable just need app like StickMount or Nexus Media Importer from Playstore.

PACKAGING
Well the packaging as usual was in a cardboard type pack and easy to open .
AVAILABILITY
16GB, 32GB and 64GB
ORGANIZINZ FILES
Sandisk has come up with an app SanDisk Memory Zone available on Playstore
SanDisk Memory Zone offers you more memory management functionality than any other application available for the Android phone.
SanDisk Memory Zone puts you in complete control. Manage and backup both your local and cloud memory with one free app. Move files back and forth from your memory card to select cloud services, or from the cloud directly to your phone. Cloud services supported: Box, Dropbox, Google Docs, Picasa, SugarSync, SkyDrive and Facebook.
CONS
Well a good light usb drive and easy to use with dual support for pc and android device, but I found the USB cap to be bit messy to use as it comes with slide in functionality and is made of plastic and both the slot cannot be slide in at the same time as the slider gets stuck in between and to add on when in case of sliding back its bit tricky to lock the slider properly need a bit of finger effort to pull it back out.
But I consider this better then losing the cap of the drive as the ones which comes with open cap functionality,I always tend to loose cap somewhere or the other so for me this drawback act as an advantage.
READ WRITE SPEED
Well you can see that in the pic as tested on my lappy, so you can conclude the rest
WARRANTY
It comes with 5 years limited warranty.
WINDUP
All in all a must buy !!!!
Got it from Snapdeal at just Rs 562 (16Gb Model) after ordering from snapdeal App and getting extra 100 off.

If you're running stock, you need an app to mount it. If you don't have/want root, nexus media importer should work. If you have root, stickmount works well.
I had the corsair voyager go (before I lost it, grrrrrr), and it was great. A bit bigger but USB 3.0 and very fast on my laptop with USB 3.0 (140MB/sec reads, 16MB/sec writes).
However, it was slower in TWRP than a cheap verbatim usb 2.0 slider model with otg cable in creating a backup.
Write speeds within Android OS were at 14-16MB/sec, very respectable.
Perfect, thanks! Just downloaded the app and ordered the SanDisk drive.
I bought the Meenova a few months back and I love it. Its similar to your SanDisk, but you can insert any size SD card into the Meenova. I like the fact that you can keep all the Rom backups on it. Also very cool to be able to watch a movie while it's plugged into phone. You can't go wrong with either USB OTG's.

The meenova is interesting for sure. My only real gripe with it is the full USB adapter looks like a complete afterthought and ruins the form factor for me. I wish the meenova was slimmer as well.
I have the Kingston micro duo on order, see if that works for me. I much prefer having both connectors on the drive at all times.

Very nice review helpful I'd really like a direct solution like this without wires, but a question I have tried various cables otg, but through media importer Nexus and Nexus USB OTG File Manager does not recognize me the pen (formatted correctly) are really frustrated because even friends with galaxy S4 recognize it right away ..... any suggestions? I have yet to root maybe that's what?
With this pendrive I could properly read and write files from a pendrive nexus and vice versa? without root or with root only?
Thank you!
p.s. You can also set an option for the decryption of files in pendrive just connected to the nexus?
I've a wireless one. The main benefits is it takes micro SD cards so it's unlimited in size. Just change the card

Well me too was facing the same issue almost tried 4 different otg but it always gave up and never detected in recovery whereas mount on ROM worked fine and I needed it badly on the recovery end it makes flashing and stuff so easier so found later it was an issue with my pen drive as just got hand over my wife's pen drive and tried connecting and yes it worked .
So later ordered the sandisk dual bcoz of the small form factor and easy to use and from then my life become so easy no more connecting wire and stuff as I do test a lot of ROMS via multirom so it works great, even tried to boot from USB and trust me it was quick so all in all a great buy and worth for every android user and the 16gig space is enough for external use like watching movie, listening to songs while on journey

Has anyone here experience with the competitors (Kingston DT MicroDuo or Transcend JetFlash 380S).
I'm not sure whether there is any noteworthy difference between them. I'd like to know your views if you have experience with two or more of those dual USB sticks.
I use the Patriot Stellar. It's the only USB 3.0 otg stick that I know of right now.
Using this one off ebay which also has USB 3.0, waterproof, etc.
My Sandisk Dual USB OTG works fine on my Nexus 5. Only gripe is the fact that the official Sandisk android app doesn't work as expected since the app itself is unable to detect the USB device on the phone.

I have the DT MicroDuo.
It's a small drive, fits pretty well and no issues with the Spigen Slim Armor. The Corsair Voyager Go was a very tight fit with the Spigen, it never sat fully, but enough for the pins to make the connection.
Kingston gets very hot, I'll have to take my temp gun to it soon to see how hot it gets. Hotter than the Voyager Go.
It's not a fast drive, Crystal Diskmark placed it at around 12MB/sec sequential writes, and 21MB/sec sequential reads.
Looking to either get the Silicon Power X20, or the DT MicroDuo USB 3.0 version (70MB/sec reads, 15MB/sec writes). Price is around the same as the DTDuo USB 2.0 version.
Corsair has one too, and it seems to pretty highly rated

Not sure what you mean, USB OTG and cloud storage are gonna be your only options besides using the internal storage.
I'd recommend putting most of your stuff on the internal storage and carrying a USB-C flash drive for the rest if need be

I've got an USB C microSD Card Adapter, it's really small and works flawless. Using a 128GB card with it to watch 3D films. And yes it's possible even with a 1080p Amoled screen

It's a bummer that the oneplus 3 doesn't have expandable storage but I'm still buying this phone for christmas ????????. Btw which cloud storage service do u recommend me that is free? It can have paying options but mostly free.

There are some pretty decent options out there; there's a fairly new one I have yet to really try out called Degoo - 100GB free. https://degoo.com/g/f6Xw9M9
Some other large free options:
Mega - 50GB
hubiC - 25GB
Personally my main cloud goto is Dropbox - only cause it was my first and is easily accessible from any platform. Also, I have 55GB ( was able to get 50gb from some sort of promotion a while back) - if it was the standard 2GB or whatever it is, I would probably have moved on.
You could also look into getting something like a SanDisk Wireless Stick, while it would be something you would have to carry around, it could be a bit more convenient.

I wish they had given a hybrid slot. I dont use two sims and having the option to expand memory would have been so awesome.

I agree with you, but it's 400 dollars with flashship specs so they had to cut corners somewhere. But then again the zte axon 7 is also 400 dollars with same specs (except the ram) and they have expandable storage. So idk why oneplus remove expandable storage in favor of dual sim. But i digress xD

I've got an USB C microSD Card Adapter, it's really small and works flawless. Using a 128GB card with it to watch 3D films. And yes it's possible even with a 1080p Amoled screen

I kinda knew you were going to recommend dropbox xD but I'll give it a shot. I'll look further into the wireless stick as well
Google Drive offers 15GB, Box offer 50GB.
I prefer to use more mainstream cloud storage solutions since less well-known ones with more storage tend to have worse performance and/or randomly go out of business (see Copy.com)
I've been using an OTG card reader and thumb drive and find it more convenient than having an internal sd card since you don't have to worry about removing the back cover or anything like that.

Yea, but the free option is most likely not large enough for the purpose you wish to use it for - so you will need to go with a paid option or find some promotion that'll get you more space.

I'll check out the wireless stick, looks pretty cool and I'll wait for another promotion for dropbox or other cloud service.

Hi,
just that simple like on the picture, got it from eBay and it was no more than 3€ included shipping costs. Just a no name adapter

Ah k. I'm about to go to ebay as well
I have 1TB of OneDrive with my Office subscription, so it's my go-to cloud option.
For OTG, I picked up an Aukey set of two microUSB to Type C adapters and an OTG adapter - no cable, just a solid little adapter - and I've had 64GB USB sticks on it with no issues, even the Logitech USB headset from my computer at work that we use for Skype connected to my OP3 just fine - even the inline volume controls worked! https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01EWD939O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the link to the set I bought. Very happy with it.

I think i am going more towards a usb c to micro sd card adapter cuz it's less clutter and i don't have to move my files into another sd card, but your otg adapter might be useful as well.
I also have a very very tiny microSD/USB adapter that works very well. I'm all about having adapters for everything! But yeah, a dedicated Type C microSD reader would work well for what you want here.
Wait for some company to make a case with external sd card
Memory stick like this is more useful, has usb-c and usb-a on either side for both phone and computer.
