Need to call Verizon about warranty replacement. What version info should I give? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I need to call verizon about a possible warranty replacement for my phone. What info should I give them if they ask me to go to about phone?
Whats the most recent OTA stock rom, radio, etc?
I'll put it back to stock before I send it in, but I'm not ready to do that yet.
Thanks

I just recently got mine replaced by verizon due to my phone having charging issues. I went into the store, didn't call before hand.
I had flashed back to stock before i went in. Told the girl there that it wasnt charging right and i have multiple batteries and they all do the same. she went to look up on some database if others were reporting similar issues (there were none). after giving her my phone number and 5 minutes later she said a replacement is on the way and to mail my old one back in the same box (shipping was paid for)
I was very pleased by how quick and painless it all was. She never touched or looked at my phone at all and asked hardly any questions.
Anyways, not sure how a phone conversation would go, but i would just skip all that and go right to the store (after flashing back to stock of course ) good luck!
edit: my phone also had a chip in the screen (about 2 cm at the bottom right, no cracks though). it never even came up. they were very lenient imo. very happy

I'm having charging problems too. It always says its charging, whether its plugged in or not. Then lots of times wont charge when its plugged in, have to reboot it to get it to charge. Problem is my phones really beat up, and I lost the back cover. But I have 2 weeks left on the warranty so I'm gonna give it a shot. I've got insurance as a backup if they say its too beat up.

I'm assuming you're on Verizon. I noticed they have a promotion on their website that through March 8th they are allowing you to add on their various insurances to your plan. If they send you away just add/upgrade to their best protection (which covers accidental damage) and go in once the Samsung warranty is up. That was my plan anyway, but I'm glad things went smoothly.

My Cingular 8525 just went dead!!!!

OK!!!
I need some help here.
I was talking on my phone, and it all of a sudden went dead.
Thinking it was a battery problem, i immediately plugged in my wall charger and saw that the light indicator was not lite.
I then got another battery from my functioning 8525, and nothing.
But the functioning phone worked after battery switch. So i ruled out dead battery as a cause.
I only did a ROM upgrade two days ago, otherwise the phone functioned without any problems.
I'll try to keep the phone on wall charger to see maybe it'll help but i doubt it.
Anyone else have this type of problem.
I'm currently thinking that it's dead, but i don't understand what could have happened.
Have you tried a Hard Reset?
I did soft reset, and even attempted to do a hardreset. several times. nothing. I see purely a blank screen.
What worries me is that when i plug in the wall charger i do not see any of the green or orange lights turn on.
I'm trying to search if there is any way for me to have someone check the phone out?
If the cost of fixing the phone is any where near 200 dollars then i might as well just buy another phone. Something better.
But any advice i'm willing to try short of dropping it off a roof. caz i know then i'll for sure have a dead phone...
Aren't there ideas like taking battery out and plugging into computer, and stuff like that?
I think I read them somewhere on the xda wiki.
IMO.. you should call at&t tech. they will most likely replace it.. and since they cant turrn it on.. they wont know what you did. anyway its a warranty exchange.. but im not sure of the number for at&t's tech department. good luck and keep us posted
I had the same probs 2 months ago...
No lights when charger was connected, hard/soft reset didnt help at all.
After 5 days of trying and trying i brought it to my provider repair center.
After 1 month of waiting they said it was a level 3 problem (highest). In the first case i was ordered to pay 230 Euro but i didnt agree, 3 days later they agree with no cost and i got a new tytn.
I used XCPUScalar.2007.v3.01 and clocked till 500 mhz.. maybe it burned my cpu..
Well good luck!

Now I know why you're not successful at flashing your device with my ROM . Sorry that I misunderstood your message.
You have to send it back for repair.
Sorry, again.
How does that happen?

So maybe i might have over clocked my cpu?
I don't know what could have happened.
I do know i installed Schap's 3.60a ROM but i installed it both of my 8525.
So i don't think it was the ROM upgrade that could have caused it.
In the mean time I'm looking into if HTC can help me here. I don't know how this would work.
I purchased this phone unlocked on ebay, i've asked the seller if he/she can get me the original invoice to prove that the phone is under manufacturers warranty.
I'll see.
As far as AT&T is concerned, i don't know how i should approach them.
But once i get the invoice information I'll be able to do more.
In your case contact HTC, forget about AT&T especially if the phone isn't on your account. You may need to be peristent with HTC as although they prefer to do things via the carriers, there's a direct route as well. They track the warranty status by S/N.
Good luck... that sucks.
Thanks for all the support
This morning, i tried to call up my carrier.
I explained to them what i observed and how the phone just went dead.
I did not mention anything about ROM upgrades (though i was asked if i did anything to the phone) nor did i drop it or dung it in water.
I was fortunate, that the lady was nice and understanding. I was surprised to know that they have all the information based on the IMEI number.
So as it turns out i made the purchase off the internet, in june. According to the lady since i made the purchase in june i was still under warrenty. They would ship out a replacement phone.
So far this is looking good.
I didn't expect it, but i guess AT&T isn't as bad as i proclaim it to be.
But customer service and phone service are two different things.
AT&T customer service has always been nice.
But their call service and internet sucks.
But got the contract so gotta stick w/ them.
ANd i like GSM, and Tmobile really sucks here in NJ and NYC.
So i gotta stick w/ AT&T
Will follow up once i get the replacement.
So far in doing business w/ At&T - they know, so don't try to kid them. Also need not give out more information then they ask. Just answer questions simple and to the point w/a bit of humor.

Evo Replacement Issues....

so i recently had issues with the usb port not working at all. i go into exchange it and of course, it looks nice and shiny. i wouldnt have cared much about it being a refurb except for the fact that the touch panel hits the center of the lcd screen making it blot and, light leakage on the bottom U part of the phone AND the worst part....they didnt clean the ear piece....so there was still grime in there....THAT is just unacceptable. i went in and they refused to replace it with another phone. they said all they would do was replace the touch panel. ARE U KIDDING ME?! they had no reaction to the whole "grime in the ear piece" at all....*sigh* before i call and tear them a new one, i'd like to know how people have handled or would handle calling sprint with an issue like this? thanks guys!
Did they show you the phone, or was it in a box? I would go back to them, and tell them its unacceptable and you would like either a better refurbished phone or a new one.

they just gave me the phone. i got home and was charging it cuz they gave me the same batter so it was dead. after an hour on the charger turned in on and started inspecting it and found all those issues. i called sprint earlier before going to the repair center and she said they had to give me a new phone and that they shouldnt have issued that phone without inspecting it. when i went back to the sprint repair store they told me, THEY, as an independent store, could not give me a new phone. insurance/TEP only allows them to give me refurbished ones. so i guess tomorrow i get to ***** at sprint and demand a new phone. if it comes down to it, i can always just say that i dont want their business anymore. their tone sure does change when that happens.
That is Sprint's policy as far as I know. If you are outside of the first 30 days then they can only issue refurbs. Bummer, I know. However, if someone on the phone at Sprint is telling you that you should get a new device as replacement, I would try to have them on the phone when you went into the Sprint store. That way, if the people at the store start to hem and haw you can just put the two ends of the problem together right then and there. I would save any threats for a last ditch effort.

[Q] Evo Power Button Not Working anymore

so recently my powerbutton on my evo has stopped working for some reason. in order for me to turn in on i have to press the button multiple times until the phone finally turns the screen back on. When i try to turn it off for some reason it goes into the menu with : shut down, airplane mode, silent, etc.
My question is, how could i get a new phone from Sprint if i have to, or
fix this problem if anyone else is having the same problem.
Do i have to unroot my phone before i take it in?
Well first I would like to tell you that when powering on your phone you should hold the button down then let it go it should come on. If not then it might be a problem there. But as for the menu coming up on shut down that is normal every phone does that. Even some other androids. I don't really know if you should get another phone yet maybe just switch up the way you are trying to boot it and see if that helps.
Sent from my GirLie Evo
sorry, when i meant turn on, i meant just turning on the screen.
Ive also tried pulling the battery and putting it back in, but the phone turns on instantly as soon as the battery goes back in. Im not sure if the Button is stuck or if some dust got in it or something, but as for the menu, when i just press the button to turn the screen off again, the phone would stall and then the power menu would pop up
I believe your button is stuck. I had the same exact problem, I wound up going to Sprint, and sat there for two hours as they told me a hard reboot would fix it smh. They would up just giving me a new one.

Did you have insurance on it? I'm having the same issue, but don't currently have insurance. Just curious if they are going to make me send it in to HTC for repairs, or if they can give me a replacement in store.
The power button on my EVO stopped working today. I do not have insurance on the phone, but my local Sprint store just informed me that they will attempt to fix the phone for $35. If they aren't able to fix the phone, they will order a new one for me.
Hope that helps!!
If you want to replace the phone the first thing you have to do is unroot. Sprint might charge you 35 dollars to replace it. (without insurance) They might not though. They'll probably replace it.

So I unrooted my phone, took it into a sprint store and they were going to give me a replacement. Said it would take about 5-7 business days as they are backordered, and had zero in stock. Unfortunately, I'm in the process of moving cross country, and the store can only order a phone to be shipped to their store...not to your address. I called cust service and they said to go back to any sprint store and they could/would order one to my home and I could mail back my current one upon receipt of the new one. Went to another store and told them this, and they said they couldn't! I told them my situation, the CSR asked around in the repair area, and they ended up having 1 EVO in stock that someone else was supposed to get as a swap on theirs, but ended up getting a different phone before the replacement arrived. So they did a swap on site! Cost me $35 plus tax, but I walked out the door with a (what looked to be) new EVO.
Just FYI, when I walked into the store, another person in line was also having issues with the power button on her EVO too.

I had to take mine to the local sprint store to get a replacement. I didn't have insurance, so it cost me $35. But my "new" replacement phone hasn't had any issues!
I had a similar issue myself , My power button was starting to sink into the actual body of the phone . It was random when it would stop working , then work fine after a while . I unrooted took it to a Sprint store where they told me they wouldnt look at it till it had completely failed . Since it being my only phone I was like "yeah fat chance I paid for a working phone and I will have a working phone especially since I pay you people for insurance" . Called Sprint they referred me to their technical support line ,I explained the issue and said they would send a phone . Next day I had a refurbished phone on the door step but heres the good part LOL . I checked the counters . It made 2 calls and no data transferred , and the body was spotless . I think it was just a return or soemthign and they slapped refurb on it even though it was still technically new .

Yes I did unroot my phone. For all they know it was stock. Also did a factory reset before I gave it to them just so all my info was off the phone.
Mine is starting to have the same issue. Gotta press the button multiple to turn on or off. When u put the battery in it turns on automaticly. I have insurance but sprint KNOWS IM ROOTED. My stupidity, I had the salesman put a screen protecter on and I got a txt msg using the miui rom and the screen turned on... My brother watched him type in cpu "user rooted". What would yall do? Can you possibly fix it yourself?
I personally would unroot the phone and go to another store if it is possible in regards to the power button issue . Make sure you restore to stock condition and pay attention to the radios as well as the Pri on your phone when you restore back to stock. Thats what I did , I wiped everything SDcard and all everything was cleaned . I would then go to the store and state your power button is not working correctly . If they pull it up and say user is rooted . You have a clean stock phone , hell download some apps from market just to make it look good . Personally I cant see that being an issue but better to play it safe . Also rooting a phone does not cause a physical part of the phone to fail . Its like saying putting an aftermarket stereo in your vehicle will void your warranty if your O2 sensor fails under warranty . They are two seperate things. Rooting doesnt cause a switch to fail .
I have the 2.15 radio and 1.77 prl. I havnt updated my radio since I put fresh 3 on a long time ago. Yea I kno ots a hardware issue and I read somewhere that sprint would fix hw issues even with root. Not 100% sure on that tho. Its not a real big problem yet but it figures a week after sprint foumd out I rooted my phone I would run into a problem.
My phone's power button stopped working just today. Is it still possible to unroot without using the power button since that's how you select items in recovery/HBOOT?

[Q] Htc evo charging/usb port loose

yes,i know the loose usb is a common issue for the htc evo,i now aim to get a new one,and supposedly it used to cost like $100 for the insurance deductible, but now i have heard that there replacing them for free.I was just wonderin if any1 in dec 2010 - jan 2011 has recently been allowed to get there phone be replaced due to this issue?
I have the exact same issue and i need and answer to this as well (got evo in july)
I just went to the Sprint Repair Center yesterday for the exact same problem and they indicated I will get my replacement on Monday afternoon.
They never mentioned anything about getting charged the insurance deductible however.
I just called 5 mins ago to check if there's any cost associated to it - he said no.
So I guess cool

You said "your replacement"... I've never had to use the insurance with Sprint and just had a question.. My port is loose too and wouldnt mind having it fixed but I'm rooted
So do I have to unroot and take my phone in or do they actually replace your phone with another one?... And if I have to unroot, are you w/o a phone for a couple of days?.. thanks
Nope not at all it doesnt have to be unrooted

you will not get charged they will see that it is loose nad give you a new one trust me i went in and they had to order me a new evo. i went in with myns rom, and he even booted up my phone and shut it down like 5 times and he was like "why does it boot up like this?" i said "its a theme from the android market" lmfao! so when i got home i unrooted and waited for my new evo to come in hehe

Didn't want the hassle of getting crap about the root (just in case) so I unrooted before I went there.
They sent me home with my phone BUT they replaced the battery with a full one to get me by.
It didn't even take 15 minutes. He took the phone back to the techs.. came back and said the port is all gone - they cant fix it (which I expected anyway).
He said tomorrow I give them my faulty one and they give me the replacement.
Has this always been the policy - replace the phone rather than repair? Or is this just something that the sprint store tech's don't have the ability and/or equipment to repair. I imagine there's at least 5 or 6 solder points that need to heated to install the new port.
Is this usb issue common with certain hardware revisions, or the replacement will succumb to this sooner or later too?

Is TEP required to get this fixed?
Did you try a new USB cord I had this problem and it turns out the original cord had worn out. Not the phone hardware.

[Q] Got my replacement EVO today

This is more of a general thing but I do have a couple questions in here so I posted in the Q&A
My USB port broke off the motherboard so I filed a claim with Asurion. My new phone arrived today and I believe it is a bran spankin' new one. It came in a factory box with the manual, all the accessories and the factory sticker on the screen with both the phone and battery sealed in factory bags. I've never gotten a insurance replacement before, is this normal or did I get a new one? It is a 004 model with an Epson screen. Rooted using Unrevoked (much easier than my launch day root using toast's method). I flashed CM7, did a nandroid of my old phone minus the WiMax and restored it onto the new one, works perfectly. Everything I've read about returning the old phone says just to put the phone in the bag. I'm wondering if anyone knows if I'm supposed to return the SD card and/or battery as well?

I have done alot of returns on previous phones and they tell u to keep all accesories( sd card, headphones etc..), they just want the phone. I have kept the battery a few times also and have never heard anything about it, once i was even told by a rep to not send the battery cuz it can mess up the phone especaily if its in the phone during shipping.
If it was in the original box with all the accessories, its likely you got a new one. There are two ways to check. A refurb will have a small white sticker on the back that shows the date which it was refurbished. And also, pull up the dialer, and hit ##786#, scroll down to Refurbished Status. If there is a date there, then it's a refurb. If it says N/A, then its new.
And no, generally you only need to send back the phone, no battery no sd card, no charger. Unless they told you to do so.

I looked for any stickers or anything on it and there weren't any. A while back I bought a refurb Sansa Fuze and it said refurbished right on the back so that was the first thing I looked for. Thanks for the code, I currently have CM7 running but I might flash back to Sense and check it out to see what it says.
Obviously I was really hoping for a new one and I couldn't be happier. I pre-ordered the 3D a couple days ago. Now, if I decide to sell this one I can sell it as only a week or 2 old, maybe get a few extra bucks for it.
Another question though, do you think I should even bother un-rooting the old one before sending it back?

Same thing here. I have returned or went through insurance probably 4-5 times. Even going back to when I had the (gasp) Blackberry. I never returned batteries or sd cards and never heard anything or gotten charged. And like the poster I quoted, I have also been told not to ship any thing but the phone itself before.
