Qcell 3650 extended life battery - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

HI,
For any of you thinking about an extended life battery but aren't sure what works good. I got the Qcell 3650 battery. It's made specifically for T mobile version. I have no idea if it works on the others or not but on the package it says for the Hercules. I got it on amazon for 22 bucks and it's worth every cent. For my job I do alot of driving, and sitting in my car and waiting, so I love to use Netflix, Jetflicks, Listen to Sirius radio while driving. As I'm sure you know those activities will drain your stock battery in a few short hours. I'm able to watch 2 entire movies, Listen to 4 hours of Sirius radio and talk and text. At the end of the day I usually still have %20 left. When I first got it, and I had to drain it till it shut down and charge it back up 2 or 3 times to get the best battery life, I was having a hell of a time getting that to drain. lol. So if you get that you won't be disappointed.

is it possible to get a slim battery thats at least 2000mah

Very reasonable price for 3650 mah. Didn't see any mention of NFC. Always reassuring to have a powerful battery. Seems some really like it while others say it doesn't last any longer the stock battery. Suppose some people didn't have the patience to cycle the battery like you did. Thanks for letting us know that it is working well for you.

Thanks for replying. Was wondering if you actually used nfc on this phone and came back here to report that it does. Or does your hercules phone simply reports that nfc is working but, haven't actually tried using nfc.
Thanks in advance. Appreciate your feedback.

I think it came with like a %50 charge on it but I charged it to full before I used it. I basicly put wifi on and put movie after movie on Netflix until it died completely. Then I charged to full and repeated that process 3 times. I did have trouble making that battery die. It last sooo long,, by the same token it takes long to charge as well. Best thing is to charge it while you sleep weather I need it or not. NFC does work with this battery.

I'm sure there is. Check Amazon.com, that's what I always go to first. If not try NewEgg,com. If all else fails, there's always Eba y.. but on Amazon,
alawys check out the seller's stats. I only buy from sellers that have %95 positive and up, read some of the feedback and if possible see if someone make a video of it on you-tube. But a 2000 MAH batter isn't really worth paying for, you won't get much more life than you do with the stock.. Hope that Helps,

HI,
No I didn't have an opportunity to use NFC but it does show up in the settings and activate when you check it. I don't have another phone to test it with. If I find one I'll let you know,, but as far as I know it does.. Maybe I can try it with my Tablet. I'll let you know.. :good:
:EDIT::
I just checked my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and it doesn't have NFC so I am unable to test it as of now. If you know another way I can test it for you let me know and I will..

There's a free download from play store called "z-device test" that i've used. And many others if you search for "nfc"

I've had my qcell in for 2 days and man this thing is a beast. The first night I had to pushy s2 to its limits to fully drain it. It recommended a 9 hour initial charge and then full charge and full discharge cycle 6 times. Good luck getting it to die. This battery far surpasses my expectations for a smartphone battery. Its slight added bulk and weight are welcomed in my opinion. Bay far the best $20 phone accessory I've ever purchased. And it was delivered in 4 days. With a full 180 day warranty you can't go wrong. Quit second guessing and debating and just buy one already lol

Seidio Extended Battery (3500) vs HTC Extended Battery (2150) Comparison

Having purchased both batteries I figured I would share with all of you the pros and cons of each battery. Firstly let me explain my situation. I purchased the HTC extended battery because I had a Seidio extended battery for my DInc1, so I couldn't stand the smaller battery on my DInc2. (Seidio had not released the DInc2 version yet.)
The HTC battery is obviously bigger and better than the stock battery that comes with the phone. It can last me all day with heavy use or at least two on light use. No complaints whatsoever other than when I place the phone on its back it muffles the speaker a little bit but it is bearable. I figured that since the Seidio battery was only a few dollars more but had 1350 mah more juice in it, that it was a worth it to sell my HTC battery and get the Seidio one.
I received my Seidio battery from a reputable website (don't know if I'm allowed to list it here on XDA or not) and at first everything seemed fine and dandy. Then I noticed my $70 brand new battery came packed with a chip in the paint on the outside of my battery door. It pissed me off but I figured it wasn't worth the hastle of sending it back. I immediately noticed it was no better than my HTC battery, but I figured I had to break it in.
I quickly realized the reason my battery wasn't working so well in that the signal connections in the battery door were not connecting to the phone antenna resulting in dropped calls, low signal, SMS messages not sending/receiving, etc. The result of this is that due to the phone always having a bad signal, the battery life would last shorter than the original stock battery that came with the phone itself. IMHO, for dishing out $70 for this battery, it should have blown my mind but I was sorely disappointed by the quality of this battery. I hope to say I got a lemon, but the physical imperfection in the outside of the door plus the awful signal quality was not worth it.
Long story short, get the HTC extended battery over the Seidio battery.
I took screenshots comparing the battery life/signal strength on my phone, and I will update with those as I'm typing this from my iPad.
Anyone else have a similar or different experience?
[/end rant]
Looks like I'm going to be ordering the HTC version, then, if Seido has that kind of QC trouble with their battery doors....
Once I order it in a few weeks, I'll try to update my post (if I remember) with how the HTC battery runs with the ICS alpha that I'm testing.
Link to order HTC battery please.

I got the extended battery free from verizon, call them up and say stock battery is not cutting it.
However, I got the Hyperion case, which is super loose fitting. However, at least it is something. If anyone knows about a good case for the HTC extended battery, that would be Rad.

LOL. Yeah, when my mom got her Charge (this was before all the new awesome 4G phones), I was telling her how the battery will blow, but you get 4G, which she was fine with, and the rep said "no, they are all about the same for battery." It took willpower not to yell at him and explain that that makes zero sense.

I just wanted to chime in here... Since I read that on here, figured I'd give it a try.
I called up on Wednesday evening and complained about my battery life sucking after the updates. Rep understood that I'm technically inclined, but still made me reset the phone to factory settings before sending out a battery. Not sure if they can tell (maybe they see when it calls up to activate?), but whatever, no big deal.
Then he sends out the batteries (one for mine and one for my wife's) with next day FedEx. Pretty decent service, if you ask me.
I just got them today, and he sent me the standard (1450mAh) battery. So I guess I'll just carry 2 batteries all the time?
When he does his follow up call on Monday, I'll ask him about it.
Oh, and a buddy of mine just picked up the RAZR MAXX and said it lasts for a few days with normal usage (there's no 4G here, so I'm sure it doesn't last as long in 4G areas).
cool thanks for the info...
Decided to go ahead and buy the HTC extended battery and must say I am very pleased with how much longer my battery now lasts.

Has anyone with the OEM extended battery had ANY issues with gps lock or cell signal? What are the contacts made out of?
I bought the Seidio/generic version and the battery is decent (not great) but the antenna sucks. It is thinly painted gold colored with no brass/copper whatsoever.

I'm really curious how the LTE and GSM models compare when it comes to battery life.
It might be because I'm in a low signal area. My Droid Razr definitely had a stronger signal at my job.

Good chance it affects it. LTE uses way more power when it's on a low connection or trying to retain connection. Switching between 4G and 3G blasts the battery pretty hard.
I got an extra battery and charging cradle as part of a combo deal with the phone.
till the end of december you get 1/2 off accessories at Verizon stores. I don't think its advertised in the stores anymore, but if you have them scan a battery for instance it should show on sale.
but yeah, any LTE phone is going to need an extended battery. I wish I could find one like the 4500mAh one the Thunderbolt had.

This is incorrect, they have 1/2 off on certain LTE/4G batteries -- that was the deal. Nexus battery did NOT ring at half off for me this morning. (I got my 25% company discount though).
Also, LTE phones work fine as long as you aren't killing the data 24 hours a day. I've been using the Stratosphere for the past 2 months with the factory 1800mAh battery, and i can make it through a full day and be down to about 20% at the end with my normal usage pattern. The only reason it works for me though is b/c I have a 3G network extender in my office. I get zero LTE and only 1 bar of 3G normally, but thankfully the Samsung phones play well with the Samsung extender, so it jumps on 3G and just stays there until I leave work.
I actually had to get an extended battery for my Droid 3 before that, because Motorola's radios suck ass now, or at least they don't like the network extender. It would constantly drop off and try to get back on the 1 bar of "real" 3G, and all of the signal hunting absolutely destroyed the battery, even with a 3G-only device.
It really depends on how much it has to hunt/roam.
That all said, I did go with the extended on the Prime (they should've kept that name) because it doesn't change the profile at all and fits in desk/car docks, so why not. Plus, work pays for it, not me.

My VZW corporate had the extended battery, it was $25. The size difference really isn't much, you can hardly tell. The main difference is the back doesn't scallop in but has the slightest bulge. It really is hardly noticeably and the phone will still fit in an otterbox.
When i got the phone my store had batteries, and some cases, but nothing else. They were receiving a shipment that had a few car docks in it, but i hate the new dock since the phone portion isn't easily detachable from the base (in the past with OG Droid and other devices, I took off the phone part and attached it to a ProClip ball mount, can't do this with the GalNex).
I've called 3 stores in the area and none of them have desktop docks yet; there will eventually be two (The vertical w/HDMI and the horizontal for nightstand mode). Even vzw.com doesn't show either of the desk docks yet.

I got my phone today and an extended battery at a VZW store. I was told all extended batteries for 4G phones are half off right now. Mine cost $25 after the discount.
Be careful plugging it up using an old charger. Didn't play well with the LG usb charger plug thingy.. I noticed the Samsung plug that comes with the phone is rated a little higher.

Great review TY.
Bought my innocell 3800 about 4 weeks ago and love it.
Price is a bit steep, but nfc compatible and super long lasting.
Average use I get 36-40 hours (nonstop LTE). And heavy use about 25-30 hours (nonstop LTE)
Again thanks for the review

would love to try out the Mugen battery
Thank you so much for the video review! I always hated extended batteries because of how it made the phone look, but I think the mugen battery cover doesn't look bad at all. I think it's because how it looks at the end/bottom of the phone (doesn't protrude out as much).
I felt the same way at the beginning, had to go back to my original nexus with that amazing curve every so often.
But after a while the extended battery just grew on me. Especially with just the skin tight case.
I did notice tho that now I seem to be getting a bit less battery life especially after a bit heavier usage.
Ill try battery status wipe in cwm and do another 2 rounds of full charge to discharge.
How do you go about your charging patterns?
Do you -
1 - full charge to discharge every time?
2 - full charge to to half and back to full?
3 - full charge to x% back to full?
And has your battery life been dropping slowly? I.e. getting less hours per charge.
As it stands now it seems to have lost roughly 3-4 hours after the same usage as when I first got the battery.

I try to go from full charge to like 10 or 5 percent however work and school dont let me do that everyday. so little charges here and there happen all the time . But at night if im low i let it charge
nope I didnt get that issue at all..But what i found with every single extended is that the first full charge is INSANE ..its so good that creates an standard..I dont know why lol but after that its been steady.
What rom are you on? And do you have any battery mods?
I'm on arhd 4.0.1 with the circles mod.
You think that could have anything to do with it?
I'll post back in a couple days after the battery wipe and full charge. Maybe my battery mod is throwing it off.

nice! I hate how some little things can screw things up
Wow, this review didn't help at all. When buying a battery the most important factor is how long it lasts. The mAH values reported by the manufacturers are meaningless so battery reviews are there to test how long they really last. This video review was nothing else than just a comparison between the back covers provided with the batteries.
Next time charge both of the batteries and then do a heavy usage test with them. A regular heavy usage test would cosist of running an internet stream video on constant brightness. That way pretty much everything is being used: screen, radio and processor. Then have both phones running the same video in a loop until they run out of battery and see how long they last.
So how about you buy both those batteries and buy 2 galaxy nexuses and do a review yourself? Then provide us your input on what you have found.
I do agree that the person left out an important part but he did do a battery review. Any information is appreciated and physical features can make or break a persons decision on a product even if it isn't important to you. I for one will thank the reviewer on his input between those batteries and leave negative comments out the window.

What about this..why dont u pay attention to the part that I say " if you want to see the power of each one..please check its independent videos..as I cant do the comparison in one video for that because It will last 15 minutes

I think the charging pattern is not really relevant when it comes to li-ion batteries...what is important is to make the phone understand that there is new capacity used. These hi-end batteries last for 400-500 recharges so I think that if you get less battery life, you should just re-calibrate it.
Mugen btw has a user-guide with calibration process described there http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/user-guide It's a no-brainer for a generic user, but it does it's job. Just I don't think it's good for your battery if you do it often...

Samsung 4200mAh battery mod

this is a mod for using two OEM Samsung batteries together for a "real" 4200mAh extended battery. unlike most 3rd party batteries the OEM ones tend to be much closer to their rated tolerance voltages and mAh.
this thing is a BEAST!
DIY:
i am not responsible for any bad stuff that happens to you or your phone. im not right in the head, i have a modding sickness and i do crazy stuff to expencive things i have only owned for a few days. so folowing this DIY means your crazy too and dont care if your phone blows up in your pocket or whatever...
if you have never soldered anything before. just stop now... dont do this mod.
if you bridge the wrong contacts with solder your battery WILL catch on fire, melt and possibly explode. this is not a joke!
please dont post questions about asking how to solder etc. i will flat out ignore them as i dont want you to do this mod if you dont have exp in this dept.
also make sure BOTH batteries are charged up to at least 4.3v before even starting.
for ref:
battery 1 is the one closest to the phone
battery 2 is the one with NFC and furthest away from the phone
now for the directions...
if you dont care about NFC and just want the battery to work ignore everything below. just tape the batteries together and just solder the + & - contacts in parallel. bam! your done. :good:
for working NFC: :fingers-crossed:
1. remove silver outer sticker from both batteries & remove the NFC sticker from only battery 1 (not sure if removing the NFC sticker is 100% necessary but its what i did). then take the little black end caps with the water mark stickers off. you can just pry them off pretty easily.

2. tin the following contacts on each battery.
3. tape off the following contacts on battery 1 only.
4. use a tiny bit of double sided tape to join the two batteries together. dont use too much tho, just in case you ever need to take them apart later. make sure the batteries are positioned correctly. you want battery 2 (with NFC) on the out side.
5. use foil tape or copper tape to go over top of the tape you already put on battery 1and solder it to the parallel contacts on battery 2.
what your doing here is just telling the circuit to ignore battery 1's passive contacts for NFC and jump the circuit to battery 2 to power the NFC sticker.
6. now solder the following contacts.
7. tape the two batteries together so if you need to pull the battery the whole assembly will come out in one piece.
8. tape off the exposed contacts just for safety sake.
first 8hrs off the charger
no power saving stuff. no wifi, 2hrs of Pandora over Bluetooth.
That is awesome I have always wanted to try that. Do they book h charge in the phone via USB?
I have noticed that the cheapo honk Kong battery's are just 2 smaller battery's weird together.
I would think that OEM battery's would be great plus you still have nfc.

To be honest i don't use NFC. I don't even know what I can test it on.
i did intend to have it work thats why i disconnected the NFC on one of the batteries. i didnt want it to get confused . lol
end of first cycle:
moderate use over long day.... slept for 4 hrs (you can see it flatten out near the end) then i hit things pretty hard with web browsing for the last stretch.
about 1 hr of Power Amp, 2 hrs of pandora. 30min GPS. 30min of games, a bunch of random youtube searches in HD. always on 4G
no wifi, everything else on. no power saving. auto brightness.
this cycle didnt really sown the battries true colors. but after this cycle the calabration was much better and it shows in the following posts.
How do your results compare to just one battery? There are people getting 4hours screen on with one battery.
You should plasti dip those exposed wires or something. If one breaks off because of a cold solder and shorts out it could start a fire. At the very least put some electrical tape on it.

nope. at least not with my Max power ones. i was going to try to use the same charging circuit board off the Max power batts but the samsung cells are bigger and dont fit inside the non-OEM case underneath the stickers.
however the battery door from my Max power batts does fit the phone with the modded Samsung 4200mAh if thats what your asking?
i actually haven't gone thru any full discharges other than the ones i posted due to a really busy work schedule. but i will update ASAP.
update:
25hrs off the charger. 3hrs screen time, played N64 emu for about 45min, poweramp for 2hrs, pandora for 1.5hrs, 30min of web browsing, 45 min of voice calls, etc...
all radios on except WiFi. been on 4G this whole time. no power saving, auto brightness.
still got 41% left.
need to figure out what "Media server" is and why its taken more power than my browser...
That's from media streaming

Sweet, thanks.
Currently @ 6% and over 7hrs screen time. Ill prob be able to squeeze 36hrs out of thisbattery with no compromise on my usage. On heavy use days (more web and screen time) I'd surly be able to get a full 16-18 hrs of use.
Ill post screen shots when i get down to 1-2%

i will but im pretty sure NFC is not working right now. ill have to do some crazy soldering tricks to get it working. worst part is that it all will be off theory. as i still cant find a schematic.
-------------------------
Update:
i had it down to 4% and then i had to use my GPS for a longer period of time than the batt would last so to avoid taking screen shots and rebooting during my trip i had to just put it on the charger. but here are the screen shots. im pretty happy with the results.
mind you i would not consider this "heavy use" for my normal day to day. but the idea is accomplished. i have a battery that can last me 1 full day now matter how hard i beat on it. :victory:
all radios on (except WiFi) always on 4G, no power saving, auto brightness.
5hrs of pandora
3hrs of PowerAmp
1hr of N64oid
7hrs screen time
45min voice calls
Haha that is some mad scientist sh*t, nice.

Just placed my order for new batteries!!!

I've had a really good experience with Anker's external batteries, so I hope these work great as well.

Review!
Its almost been a whole week since I've received these batteries and all I have to say is that, its amazing. I get good screen on time 3+ hours heavy usage. I also get a whole lot of standby hours. These batteries last me the whole day from 7am to when i get into bed around 9:30-10pm.
I even have a little juice left to check my Facebook, twitter, Instagram, vines, and youtube. I really love these batteries. So far I haven't seen any signs of battery getting fat or any signs of it deteriorating. :good::good: Pics coming soon!

The 2450mah battery quality died after only like month or so..I can barely get 2hours screen time with it.
Your probably better with the Anker battery as the quality hasn't seemed to drop as of yet. I have a Qcell 4100mah and tpu case in the mail.. It just took me a while because I didn't want to give up my otterbox

I've been using these Anker Batteries for about a week now. They seem pretty good, though I'm new to this phone so I have nothing to compare them to.
I posted a screenshot of my battery after streaming one hour of a movie over Netflix, with the volume at 100% and brightness at 100%. When i started the stream, the battery was at 100%, and after one hour it dropped to 81%. I also have a sip client running, so I'm sure that added to the battery drain.
Is a 20% drop in battery normal for an hour stream of a movie at 100% brightness?
EDIT: Pic taken while using a custom Kit-Kat ROM.

Ya, I was running a custom Kit-Kat ROM. I'm finding out ROMS absolutely destroy battery life. I currently switched back to Stock Samsung JellyBean, and I got almost 23 hours out of my battery (pic below). The best I got from custom ROMs was about 15 hours. I guess I'll be staying with stock.

Not sure if that's the problem... I had a completely stock rom from a new phone (to me) mid-Feb 2014 and was getting terrible battery life. This phone was on it's 2nd factory battery. Phone was running warm at times. I read somewhere that a format of the internal SD might help so I copied everything to an old class 2 16GB from my OG Droid and formatted the internal SD, copied back (not using Windows). Did an "SD aligned" format on the external SD using detailed instructions from a blog run by "zero1" and Battery life IMPROVED! (SD internal to ext writes also went from 1-2 Mbps to 26 Mbps, to a CLASS 2 SD!)Then installed Agat_GB27-v1.4.2F, newest Jellyverse, DS battery saver, greenify (with Xposed) and Gravity Screen to eliminate having to use power button. More improvement! So now, being on a roll, I bought a 3800mah battery w/cover from ebay seller unlockxpress1 for $5.98 delivered (0 stock atm but there are other sellers), everything actually fits and snaps in perfectly.
It's been a real trip and education.
Thanks to the xda devs Agat, Shadow_God, kobridge, gharrington, TD, bilgerryan, g_ding, Goddly, rovo89, leducbao, oasisfeng, plexnor and this *GREAT* XDA community see pics for results atm. I'm in ecstasy can you tell lol.:good:
