Having purchased both batteries I figured I would share with all of you the pros and cons of each battery. Firstly let me explain my situation. I purchased the HTC extended battery because I had a Seidio extended battery for my DInc1, so I couldn't stand the smaller battery on my DInc2. (Seidio had not released the DInc2 version yet.)
The HTC battery is obviously bigger and better than the stock battery that comes with the phone. It can last me all day with heavy use or at least two on light use. No complaints whatsoever other than when I place the phone on its back it muffles the speaker a little bit but it is bearable. I figured that since the Seidio battery was only a few dollars more but had 1350 mah more juice in it, that it was a worth it to sell my HTC battery and get the Seidio one.
I received my Seidio battery from a reputable website (don't know if I'm allowed to list it here on XDA or not) and at first everything seemed fine and dandy. Then I noticed my $70 brand new battery came packed with a chip in the paint on the outside of my battery door. It pissed me off but I figured it wasn't worth the hastle of sending it back. I immediately noticed it was no better than my HTC battery, but I figured I had to break it in.
I quickly realized the reason my battery wasn't working so well in that the signal connections in the battery door were not connecting to the phone antenna resulting in dropped calls, low signal, SMS messages not sending/receiving, etc. The result of this is that due to the phone always having a bad signal, the battery life would last shorter than the original stock battery that came with the phone itself. IMHO, for dishing out $70 for this battery, it should have blown my mind but I was sorely disappointed by the quality of this battery. I hope to say I got a lemon, but the physical imperfection in the outside of the door plus the awful signal quality was not worth it.
Long story short, get the HTC extended battery over the Seidio battery.
I took screenshots comparing the battery life/signal strength on my phone, and I will update with those as I'm typing this from my iPad.
Anyone else have a similar or different experience?
[/end rant]
Looks like I'm going to be ordering the HTC version, then, if Seido has that kind of QC trouble with their battery doors....
Once I order it in a few weeks, I'll try to update my post (if I remember) with how the HTC battery runs with the ICS alpha that I'm testing.
Link to order HTC battery please.

I got the extended battery free from verizon, call them up and say stock battery is not cutting it.
However, I got the Hyperion case, which is super loose fitting. However, at least it is something. If anyone knows about a good case for the HTC extended battery, that would be Rad.

You should call back for sure. I have never been told by a customer service rep 6 hours is normal. Even on 4g they talk up battery life. On average I talk to customer service 5 or more times a day.

LOL. Yeah, when my mom got her Charge (this was before all the new awesome 4G phones), I was telling her how the battery will blow, but you get 4G, which she was fine with, and the rep said "no, they are all about the same for battery." It took willpower not to yell at him and explain that that makes zero sense.

I just wanted to chime in here... Since I read that on here, figured I'd give it a try.
I called up on Wednesday evening and complained about my battery life sucking after the updates. Rep understood that I'm technically inclined, but still made me reset the phone to factory settings before sending out a battery. Not sure if they can tell (maybe they see when it calls up to activate?), but whatever, no big deal.
Then he sends out the batteries (one for mine and one for my wife's) with next day FedEx. Pretty decent service, if you ask me.
I just got them today, and he sent me the standard (1450mAh) battery. So I guess I'll just carry 2 batteries all the time?
When he does his follow up call on Monday, I'll ask him about it.
Oh, and a buddy of mine just picked up the RAZR MAXX and said it lasts for a few days with normal usage (there's no 4G here, so I'm sure it doesn't last as long in 4G areas).
cool thanks for the info...
Decided to go ahead and buy the HTC extended battery and must say I am very pleased with how much longer my battery now lasts.

Has anyone with the OEM extended battery had ANY issues with gps lock or cell signal? What are the contacts made out of?
I bought the Seidio/generic version and the battery is decent (not great) but the antenna sucks. It is thinly painted gold colored with no brass/copper whatsoever.

I finally broke down and bought an extended battery for the Evo. I bought the 3500 maH battery from gorillagadgets.com. They suggest cycling from completely full to completely empty.
So, I charged it completely, while I waited for that to charge, I ran my stock battery empty from 100% in just under 3 hours using slingbox. I then ran gorilla gadget battery the same way, slingbox running off of 3g, screen on the whole time and got 5:45. Not quite double the battery life, but close.
I ran it down the second time, this time with 4g, wifi (on, not connected), bluetooth, GPS all on. It ran for 4 hours and 45 minutes.
The third charge was more of a real world test for me. I took the phone to work for the first time. Normally at work I have very weak signal, and struggle to get 6 hours without having to replace the battery. After a 9 hour work day my phone was at 60%. It wasn't the heaviest of use days, but I managed to listen to music for 6 hours, text, web and read some articles on pulse.
I ended up just letting the phone run down naturally on its own, in the end the screen on time was just over 3.5 hours. So far I am happy with the purchase.

I have seen people get that with stock as well. Just not at my work. There are three of us with Evo's and none of us (no matter what Roms/Kernels)last a full day on one charge.
Sure we could beg our IT department to disregard their security policies so we can have an airwave pugged into the network so we can use of our phones. Or I guess I could explain to my wife and daughter if they needed to get a hold of me during the day, sorry I am saving battery life.
Or I can spend $40 for a battery, a back and a case that more than doubles the battery life I was getting, without have to turn of any of the features that make owning the phone great.
Hard decision

Airwave is a device similar to VOIP. You plug it into your high speed internet service and it transmits/receives a 1x signal for your phone. Like having a personal cell tower.

Is it 1x? My phone says 3G when I'm connected to my airave. I'm on AOSP so it does differentiate when I'm on 1x, however it's always 3g when in range of the airave. Not putting you on blast, just genuinely curious.
glad your happy with your battery life but just sayin i got just shy of 16 hours with 56% left on stock battery (9 months old) with actually using my phone not just letting it sit there like people who usually brag about battery. miui 1.9.9 and tiamat 4.0.8 (not sbc)
There is no way you get 15hrs while actually using your phone...I notice browsing the net at 3g burns the battery down fast...I once listened to DI radio and itll only last 3-4 hrs mostly bc the signal is going from 1X to 3g
i beg to differ. my stock battery has lasted almost 8 hours. the gorilla battery which is almost twice as large, i can see lasting close to 16 hours.
What you do with the phone matters & how good the signal is...these factors all make a huge diff...
Noticed a few people gving bad reviews on gg while the seidio got 600 good reviews...GG doesnt last long along with the other cheap batteries...

Confirmed! have had this battery for about 4 months now and it is lasting about half as long as it used to. if anything my battery consumption has been reduced due to various tweeks. and I have not really flashed many new roms. I am now barely getting 6-7 hours with moderate use. The first month or two I was pulling at least 13-14 hours. so my final review..... was worth the price for a quick fix, and I may buy another down the road, if I decide to keep my EVO past my contract ( which I am strongly considering )

Question for the OP or anyone who has this battery: How does the battery door fit to the phone? Does it fit securely, and are there any gaps? Does the plastic scratch easily?
I have the Seido extended 3500mah battery, and not only did it's battery door not fit properly (large gaps) but one of the plastic hooks broke off on the first day. I sent it back to Amazon for an exchange, and the new one had the same problems, although the plastic hook managed to last a week before breaking. Also, the cheap plastic is very prone to scratching.
I purchased a Mugen extended battery door from ebay and it should be here by Monday, and I will post a little review of it.

Yeah, I swap batteries daily...funny thing is the stock cover has no scratches or broken tabs, and I use it nearly as often as the extended battery (I start the day with the extended battery and then switch to the stock battery when it gets to 10%).
Got it this morning. With 4G on, burns through battery very fast. Maybe my battery is still conditioning but this is a faster drain than the RAZR.

I'm really curious how the LTE and GSM models compare when it comes to battery life.
It might be because I'm in a low signal area. My Droid Razr definitely had a stronger signal at my job.

Good chance it affects it. LTE uses way more power when it's on a low connection or trying to retain connection. Switching between 4G and 3G blasts the battery pretty hard.
I got an extra battery and charging cradle as part of a combo deal with the phone.
till the end of december you get 1/2 off accessories at Verizon stores. I don't think its advertised in the stores anymore, but if you have them scan a battery for instance it should show on sale.
but yeah, any LTE phone is going to need an extended battery. I wish I could find one like the 4500mAh one the Thunderbolt had.

This is incorrect, they have 1/2 off on certain LTE/4G batteries -- that was the deal. Nexus battery did NOT ring at half off for me this morning. (I got my 25% company discount though).
Also, LTE phones work fine as long as you aren't killing the data 24 hours a day. I've been using the Stratosphere for the past 2 months with the factory 1800mAh battery, and i can make it through a full day and be down to about 20% at the end with my normal usage pattern. The only reason it works for me though is b/c I have a 3G network extender in my office. I get zero LTE and only 1 bar of 3G normally, but thankfully the Samsung phones play well with the Samsung extender, so it jumps on 3G and just stays there until I leave work.
I actually had to get an extended battery for my Droid 3 before that, because Motorola's radios suck ass now, or at least they don't like the network extender. It would constantly drop off and try to get back on the 1 bar of "real" 3G, and all of the signal hunting absolutely destroyed the battery, even with a 3G-only device.
It really depends on how much it has to hunt/roam.
That all said, I did go with the extended on the Prime (they should've kept that name) because it doesn't change the profile at all and fits in desk/car docks, so why not. Plus, work pays for it, not me.

My VZW corporate had the extended battery, it was $25. The size difference really isn't much, you can hardly tell. The main difference is the back doesn't scallop in but has the slightest bulge. It really is hardly noticeably and the phone will still fit in an otterbox.
When i got the phone my store had batteries, and some cases, but nothing else. They were receiving a shipment that had a few car docks in it, but i hate the new dock since the phone portion isn't easily detachable from the base (in the past with OG Droid and other devices, I took off the phone part and attached it to a ProClip ball mount, can't do this with the GalNex).
I've called 3 stores in the area and none of them have desktop docks yet; there will eventually be two (The vertical w/HDMI and the horizontal for nightstand mode). Even vzw.com doesn't show either of the desk docks yet.

I got my phone today and an extended battery at a VZW store. I was told all extended batteries for 4G phones are half off right now. Mine cost $25 after the discount.
Be careful plugging it up using an old charger. Didn't play well with the LG usb charger plug thingy.. I noticed the Samsung plug that comes with the phone is rated a little higher.

i notice my standard battery is acting goofy.. Got the phone at about 40% charge, and ran it down. Started charging and it jumped up to 30% charge in 15 mins. Battery still needs conditioning perhaps?
I've never heard of this brand before, but man, these batteries are amazing. From day one, I've never had great battery with my EVO, usually dead by 6pm from 7am unplug. Recently my orginal batteries stopped working. I would charge to 100%, and it would die in 5 minutes, so I had to go hunting for batteries.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1700mAh-Batteries-Incredible-Multi-purpose/dp/B0050MUSLY I personally vouch for these batteries. 200mAH difference seems small, and it might be, but these batteries last me almost 2 days, and is the same size as OEM batteries. Also very good price. I ordered the double because we have two evos in the house, but if you want just one then here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1700mAh-Battery-Multi-purpose-Charger/dp/B004KW5E8W
I HIGHLY recommend these, the battery was my biggest problem with the evo, and this just flat out ended that problem. I've had the batteries for about 2 weeks now, and still performing very well. I'm too lazy for screenshot, but right now it has been 12h 24m on battery, and I'm at 59 percent.
All in all, if you have battery problems, buy these.
BUY THEM!!!
Lots of batteries do well the first few days, and then lose capacity quickly after. Do another test next week and do a comparison, see if there is any drop off.
I noticed from your other threads that you used to have cyanogenmod, but had some issues and switched to a sense rom. Which one did you finally settle on?
I too had issues with aosp and after trying out over a dozen sense roms, I went back to cyanogenmod, spent some time with it, and finally solved all my problems.
It's still going strong after 2 weeks! But I will wait another week and report back. I ended up settling with Synergy Rls1 non-godmode with Lithid's Freedom-Agressive Kernel.

hmm thats odd. cyanogenmod is the only rom that doesn't work for me haha. im using miui at the moment and its is 100% perfect (at least the build im using) and i usually swap between decks, miui, and mikg. my phone just refuses to cooperate with cm even after many attempts at it...
how do this compare to the Sprints 2600mah battery. Looking to switch back to a slimmer battery.
I've never had a sprint 2600mAH so can't say anything, but this definitely outlasts the original battery by miles
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You are going to get at least a 10% bump in battery stamina simply by virtue of the fact that you are using a fully charged battery from the charger and not getting the fast initial 10% drop caused by HTC's charging algorithm. That being said, I also have these batteries and for the price and and extra mAh, they are great. Keep one in the charger and pop it in when you go to work and last all day.
have nothing to say about these batteries.. But I am subscribing to this thread to keep my on the discussion. I bought a 3500 gorilla gadget and i am kinda disappointing. It is not holding a charge like it used to (after only 4 months). So I may be due for a replacement. These sound interesting.

The battery will fit, however, you won't be able to get a stock battery door on over it. You'll have to find an extended battery door or duct tape it in place, lol.
Anyone have a link to a higher mah battery than stock but will fit own size and is road tested? Although the 4.67 update rocks, I still want a lil more juice.

My weekend usage with the Anker 1700 mah battery really not doing much so don't think I was watching YouTube videos, playing games and talking on the phone much. Was a pretty laid back weekend and stayed on WiFi except a few quick trips to the supermarket but still, never had anything close to this battery life.

Working a 12 hr. shift tonight into tomorrow morning which will be much more standard/heavy usage i.e. 4G, tethering, phone and texts. I'm going to leave this battery in and pocket a fully charged spare just in case. Will report how long the first lasted during standard usage on 3G and 4G.

dangggg haha. The most ive gotten is like 2d 3hours, that's ridiculous lol. These do seem to reserve battery while relaxed MUCH better than original evo batteries.

Well here you have it! I did my normal 12 hr. shift last night with several phone calls including a long one with Verizon technical support because our FIOS was offline at home last night. I have Gmail set to push, got and sent several text messages, about 15 app updates, Titanium Backup auto backup on and about 30 mins. of tethering my tablet over 4G. With the stock battery I was constantly plugging in to bump the charge throughout the night. I have not touched a charger in 3 days!
To to OP, Amazing is an understatement! If anyone is considering a battery replacement look no further because these are surely the best investment I've ever made for my Evo! Of course YMMV but if the below doesn't convince you I don't know what will.
Get them today for $13.00!!!!! I swear I'm not a spokesman but these are so good and I'm so happy with them I've just got to share with the people I've learned and gotten so much from here on XDA.

That's pretty amazing battery life. I think I may have to try this out. Thanks for the info.
Notice to mods: This is a discussion topic so please dont move to Q&A.
HTC said there market research suggested that people would rather have a really thin phone with normal battery than a slightly thicker and heavier one with great battery life. Ofcourse people at xda dont represent the normal consumer but I was still interested in seeing what the results would be from the enthusiast community.
For me it's a no brainer, everybody always complains about battery life but hardly anyone moans all day that their phone is thick and heavy. HTC apparently cancelled designs with the bigger battery, what really baffles me why not release both??? All about choice isnt it? Those who want thin phone get thin those who want stellar battery get exactly that. With a phone like sensation there wasnt much room for improvement as it was already quite thick and heavy but I really think HTC missed out on a potentially huge market with the new one series(sony and samsung also missed out as nobody bothered copying the razr maxx sadly). I can bet a phone like the razr maxx coming from samsung or HTC would have made a killing.
Maybe we can make this a huge thread and show HTC that their research doesnt represent a large portion of the enthusiast community? Everyone leave your votes please.
I'd definitely go with the larger battery option, kinda annoying having to be ultra-conservative while away on a weekend just to be able to do basic stuff like being able to text over the course of 2 days. Personally I'm hoping Mugen come out with an extended battery option to make the dream come true
Thin & lighter definitely over battery life,
The battery life on the HOX is good, so your not losing out on anything.
People would not even buy a thicker phone now.
Give me a 5000mah battery in a 15mm phone - no thanks.

Im praying someone comes out with an extended battery sure I will have to either send my phone away or personally void my warranty but Im sick to death already of having to charge my phone multiple times in the day just because I actually use it.
The point of having a smart phone is that I want to use it not have it on standby in my pocket 99% of the time.
Thin and lighter but with removable battery/storage.
Yer most may not use up 32 gb ( I personally have) but it's always good to have the option of expanding
And I've accepted until there's a replacement for lithium ion batteries battery life on any smartphone won't be amazing, so guess what I've done the whole time I had a HTC? That's right bought 2 spare batteries and swapped em out, easy
I knew the phone didn't have these features and I'm not complaining, what I'm saying is I like the thin light phone, with decent build quality...a lot! So I accepted these drawbacks. I thought HTC done them to make the phone thin and sexy but seeing as the gs3 is thinner its Deffo possible. However that thing is hideous.
But if I had to go with one or the other with no compromise, I'm going with thin and less battery life. Believe me that's something I never thought I would say two months ago.

I'll stick with a thin one x. Today you can charge a phone allmost everywhere you want. Plenty charges that can do the job. Even while taking a dump you can charge with a good solar charger. You do have to turn on the light.....so let's leave it thin as it is...the phone I mean..

Exactly. The battery life is plenty for even a heavy user to get through the day. I've yet to have my battery be below 40% when I went to bed and put it on the charger even once. So I'm sure those with better cycled batteries than mine could get much better battery life as well.
Hopefully there will be a "clip on" battery that connects to the pongo-pins that are pretty slimline. Would be awsome.

Exactly. Yes nobody wants a 15mm thick phone with 5000mah battery but I think the benchmark should be to get a full day of heavy usage which only the razr maxx can currently give.

I can get a full day with texts, some calls, WiFi + 3g and some 2d games but anything that's 3d drains it so fast. You can easily get the battery from 100 to 0 in few hours of games.

Same with any device,
It's a phone that offers gaming,
Not a gaming device that offers the use of a phone.
Even the maxx wasn't all that great in these tests:

The razr uses an SAMOLED screen so ofcourse it may not have a commanding lead in web browsing. But I dont really know whats happening in the second chart.
Here it lasts 3 hours more than the second best SAMOLED phone on the list, galaxy S2. Thats about 70% more time.
The razr maxx isnt like "any other device"....I bet it can come close to playing 3D games for 7-8 hours straight.
The topic title is 10mm, not 15mm, which is a big difference.
I'm sure most of us do not want a 15mm thick phone, but a 10mm or 11mm compared to the current 8.9mm on the One X for something like 3000mAh or more? Who wouldn't? If you say "me", well... you're an idiot.

Well, I must be an idiot then.
Nothing wrong with the HOX battery, so why would anyone accept a thicker phone for the larger battery?
Extended battery's can add 1-2mm and while some people can aceept it, a lot of people do not like the added weight and thickness - because they prefer the sleek, thin, lighter model.
- that's just how it is.

HI,
For any of you thinking about an extended life battery but aren't sure what works good. I got the Qcell 3650 battery. It's made specifically for T mobile version. I have no idea if it works on the others or not but on the package it says for the Hercules. I got it on amazon for 22 bucks and it's worth every cent. For my job I do alot of driving, and sitting in my car and waiting, so I love to use Netflix, Jetflicks, Listen to Sirius radio while driving. As I'm sure you know those activities will drain your stock battery in a few short hours. I'm able to watch 2 entire movies, Listen to 4 hours of Sirius radio and talk and text. At the end of the day I usually still have %20 left. When I first got it, and I had to drain it till it shut down and charge it back up 2 or 3 times to get the best battery life, I was having a hell of a time getting that to drain. lol. So if you get that you won't be disappointed.

Very reasonable price for 3650 mah. Didn't see any mention of NFC. Always reassuring to have a powerful battery. Seems some really like it while others say it doesn't last any longer the stock battery. Suppose some people didn't have the patience to cycle the battery like you did. Thanks for letting us know that it is working well for you.

I think it came with like a %50 charge on it but I charged it to full before I used it. I basicly put wifi on and put movie after movie on Netflix until it died completely. Then I charged to full and repeated that process 3 times. I did have trouble making that battery die. It last sooo long,, by the same token it takes long to charge as well. Best thing is to charge it while you sleep weather I need it or not. NFC does work with this battery.

I'm sure there is. Check Amazon.com, that's what I always go to first. If not try NewEgg,com. If all else fails, there's always Eba y.. but on Amazon,
alawys check out the seller's stats. I only buy from sellers that have %95 positive and up, read some of the feedback and if possible see if someone make a video of it on you-tube. But a 2000 MAH batter isn't really worth paying for, you won't get much more life than you do with the stock.. Hope that Helps,

No I didn't have an opportunity to use NFC but it does show up in the settings and activate when you check it. I don't have another phone to test it with. If I find one I'll let you know,, but as far as I know it does.. Maybe I can try it with my Tablet. I'll let you know.. :good:

I just checked my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and it doesn't have NFC so I am unable to test it as of now. If you know another way I can test it for you let me know and I will..

There's a free download from play store called "z-device test" that i've used. And many others if you search for "nfc"
I've had my qcell in for 2 days and man this thing is a beast. The first night I had to pushy s2 to its limits to fully drain it. It recommended a 9 hour initial charge and then full charge and full discharge cycle 6 times. Good luck getting it to die. This battery far surpasses my expectations for a smartphone battery. Its slight added bulk and weight are welcomed in my opinion. Bay far the best $20 phone accessory I've ever purchased. And it was delivered in 4 days. With a full 180 day warranty you can't go wrong. Quit second guessing and debating and just buy one already lol
