I finally broke down and bought an extended battery for the Evo. I bought the 3500 maH battery from gorillagadgets.com. They suggest cycling from completely full to completely empty.
So, I charged it completely, while I waited for that to charge, I ran my stock battery empty from 100% in just under 3 hours using slingbox. I then ran gorilla gadget battery the same way, slingbox running off of 3g, screen on the whole time and got 5:45. Not quite double the battery life, but close.
I ran it down the second time, this time with 4g, wifi (on, not connected), bluetooth, GPS all on. It ran for 4 hours and 45 minutes.
The third charge was more of a real world test for me. I took the phone to work for the first time. Normally at work I have very weak signal, and struggle to get 6 hours without having to replace the battery. After a 9 hour work day my phone was at 60%. It wasn't the heaviest of use days, but I managed to listen to music for 6 hours, text, web and read some articles on pulse.
I ended up just letting the phone run down naturally on its own, in the end the screen on time was just over 3.5 hours. So far I am happy with the purchase.

I see people getting that with stock.. your radio is sucking battery turn it off or get an airwave
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Sounds like something that I might need to look into... Thanks for the review
Really?

I have seen people get that with stock as well. Just not at my work. There are three of us with Evo's and none of us (no matter what Roms/Kernels)last a full day on one charge.
Sure we could beg our IT department to disregard their security policies so we can have an airwave pugged into the network so we can use of our phones. Or I guess I could explain to my wife and daughter if they needed to get a hold of me during the day, sorry I am saving battery life.
Or I can spend $40 for a battery, a back and a case that more than doubles the battery life I was getting, without have to turn of any of the features that make owning the phone great.
Hard decision

Airwave is a device similar to VOIP. You plug it into your high speed internet service and it transmits/receives a 1x signal for your phone. Like having a personal cell tower.

Might have to look into this.
still happy?
Hey
one question...
are you still happy with the battery or has it started to fail and not last as long...
http://gorillagadgets.com/3500mah-evo-4g-extended-life-battery-en.html
thinking about buying, and just wondering if it will last the 8months left i have on my contract till i get a new phone
If Any one has any input on this battery I would be glad to hear. I reallly dont want to start a new thread..

Is it 1x? My phone says 3G when I'm connected to my airave. I'm on AOSP so it does differentiate when I'm on 1x, however it's always 3g when in range of the airave. Not putting you on blast, just genuinely curious.
glad your happy with your battery life but just sayin i got just shy of 16 hours with 56% left on stock battery (9 months old) with actually using my phone not just letting it sit there like people who usually brag about battery. miui 1.9.9 and tiamat 4.0.8 (not sbc)
There is no way you get 15hrs while actually using your phone...I notice browsing the net at 3g burns the battery down fast...I once listened to DI radio and itll only last 3-4 hrs mostly bc the signal is going from 1X to 3g
i beg to differ. my stock battery has lasted almost 8 hours. the gorilla battery which is almost twice as large, i can see lasting close to 16 hours.
What you do with the phone matters & how good the signal is...these factors all make a huge diff...
Noticed a few people gving bad reviews on gg while the seidio got 600 good reviews...GG doesnt last long along with the other cheap batteries...

Confirmed! have had this battery for about 4 months now and it is lasting about half as long as it used to. if anything my battery consumption has been reduced due to various tweeks. and I have not really flashed many new roms. I am now barely getting 6-7 hours with moderate use. The first month or two I was pulling at least 13-14 hours. so my final review..... was worth the price for a quick fix, and I may buy another down the road, if I decide to keep my EVO past my contract ( which I am strongly considering )

DUDE! you got some serious wake lock going on there!
Question for the OP or anyone who has this battery: How does the battery door fit to the phone? Does it fit securely, and are there any gaps? Does the plastic scratch easily?
I have the Seido extended 3500mah battery, and not only did it's battery door not fit properly (large gaps) but one of the plastic hooks broke off on the first day. I sent it back to Amazon for an exchange, and the new one had the same problems, although the plastic hook managed to last a week before breaking. Also, the cheap plastic is very prone to scratching.
I purchased a Mugen extended battery door from ebay and it should be here by Monday, and I will post a little review of it.

It is cheap. has gaps and the one of the interior hooks broke last week
It does stay in place but is loosening over time especially If you wind up pulling your battery often.

Yeah, I swap batteries daily...funny thing is the stock cover has no scratches or broken tabs, and I use it nearly as often as the extended battery (I start the day with the extended battery and then switch to the stock battery when it gets to 10%).

I have been looking at new batteries for my dash for a couple weeks. Probably after i upgraded to ricky's kavana so i can keep my overclocks. I have searched around the forums a while and i only found one picture and i think it was of a 2400mAh battery. I dont think i want something that sticks out that far but i would like some added juice.
I would like to see pictures of the extended batteries you guys have and if you can remember where you got them. I'm looking for pictures of the back/side of the phone so i know what the new door looks like.
I have found a bunch of batteries with doors online but only one where i could tell what it looked like.
Thanks guys!

If you don't want the bulk, maybe you should check out this 1300 mAH that it fits on the factory backing and you get 35% more life on it. (seidio's statement, not mine) http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/basi13tmdhm.htm
yeah i saw that one, can anyone confirm this? cause it seems to good to be true... 1300mAh vs. 960mAh and they are the same size? then why do the 2000+ ones stick out so far? Also look at this concerning the 2200mAh ones here.

Now i'm really confused....
I'm really looking at the 1550mAh one like these. Anyone have a website that sell those?
I know a few people on here have one, i'm just curious of the size.
Take a look into Simplo batterys too as thats what HTC use as stock, i use a 1550mAh it's fat but can last about 4 days.
roloracer spot on about seidio as 960mAh-1300mAh is about what is quoted 35% extra, so would be good choice if you don't want an fat ass on Dash mind you i.mo makes it better to handle.

Yeah 960 to 1300 is 35%. but then why is a 2200 only rated at 20-30% more?
So that battery and cover in that picture is this one right? 1550mAh
You get 4 days out of it!? What is your usage would you say? and is it overclocked? I loved the speed of mine at 252MHz (chinese )but it was killing my battery.
I would say on average a day i would use it for talk time 20mins to an hour, sms and maybe a few mms. i get by e-mails every 5 mins. Some java games and some internet browsing (less than 30 mins) I never use wifi either. its on the 5.99 plan. you think a 1300 or 1550 would be fine?
The reason i really think i need it is because if the battery shows anything less than about 50% if i try to send or recieve e-mail or a MMS it goes blank. no shutoff sequence. I assumed this was my battery going south.

That looks like the battery Simplo, my usage is i'm heavy on Wi-Fi don't talk lots as phones not for talking Texting moderate.
This is just an example i managed to have Wi-Fi BT & playing music constantly for aprx 16 hours "I was trying to kill battery as in deplenish" don't ask why.
With regards shutoff sounds like battery especially if you have say W-FI on as the mA usage will go up @ them points.
roloracer stop looking @ her ass "bet you just saved the image" JK
ok, i think i'm leaning towards the 1550 even though i think it looks a little rediculous. I figure with my usage and it overclocked that will give me the best results. I would go with the 1300 but the price difference is just stupid i think.
any place you know of i can get one that's not ebay for $30?

I guess they have some secret technique in how they get 1300mAh out of a battery that size. I just sounds too good to be true because if that were the case would all phone manufacturers use their batteries to get the extended times?
Seidio battery
I just got a Seidio battery which is 1300 mAh's and it sits flush with the back cover, I wanted the extra battery life without increasing the size and weight of my dash, so that's why I didn't opt for a larger capacity battery. Plus I have noticed better battery life though I cant give you a specific percentage of significance.

nobody said it was the same size as the factory battery, it's just thick enough to still fit in the factory back.
Yeah but from the looks of it, the 1550 sticks out almost twice as far.
Though, with the increased cost I have no reason to doubt that is is a better made battery.
I'm just wondering how much of a difference that extra 250mAh will make in the long run?

i use 2200mah battery that sticks out from the back about 3/16" of an inch. at 20% battery life left, i wanted to kill it to give it a full charge. it took over 6 hours making calls, running programs, surfing the net, wifi, media playing, gaming. it was frustrating trying to get it to die! in a way it was great! haha

only 3/16th of an inch?
that looks like about what stylez's looks like... hmm, might be looking at that now. You think there is a way you can get a picture of it?
By my measurement, this battery cover is about 1/4" thicker than the stock battery cover. And I can attest that this battery is "hard to kill", and inexpensive. I bought mine on ebay (and older auction, but the same product):
http://bit.ly/11Z1u1
Here's a picture (courtesy of jdoggraz):
http://bit.ly/10J7Z
It's thicker, but not so bad. I still carry it in my front pant pocket. I tend to use both this and a smaller (w/ stock cover). The stock battery will get me through most days. I always put in the thick battery when I'm traveling, and more reliant on my phone. Day to day, I probably use the two batteries about 50/50.

Thats the exact same one I got, and from the same company too. Mine is plastic (not rubberized) and it does scratch easily.
The battery is the bomb. I get about 24 hours off a typical charge and Im a heavy user, better than off the 6 to 8 hours off the stock batt.
The larger back does make the phone easier to hold while texting, the added size does not bother me at all.
PS: their customer service is good but it took over a month to ship to my house (far west chicago), I dont know if its the company or UPS's fault. Just a heads up.
The battery is the same, I'm less sure about the cover. So I can only vouch for the battery, not the cover.
[email of seller removed] My cover is, to my eyes, rubberized, in that it matches pretty well the rest of the Dash back.
I'd contact any possible seller and ask for some additional photos.
PM me if you want more details.
Good luck!

I just bought my excalibur about 1 hour ago and waiting for it to be sent to me.
Im buying it because my universal drained to much battery and was too big. I just checked the battery life on the excalibur just now and am very worried about he battery life on this as well.
I usually charge my phone every night.
So if i use this phone for say 4 hours of music with bluetooth headphones, 2 hours of wifi internet and bluetooth gps for 1 hour.
Will that last me through the day?

Yep should do and there are plenty of battery threads that will help you here
My device used to last 3-4 days with an Simplo 1550mAh extended life battery... "Past tence as i use my Tilt as everyday phone"
I have the standard 960mAh battery and need to charge every 1-2 days. Especially if I'm listening to music using Kinoma with an A2DP headset, browsing the web and so on, it can really drain the battery.
I normally keep a short USB cable in my bag that came from one of those 3G dongles, I'm often near a computer so it's easy to top up the charge if I need to. I charge short and often!
My battery will normally last a couple days depending on what I am doing with it. I do a lot of web browsing on my phone and it it will drain faster but it still will last a full day. I normally do not use the phone to play music so I am not sure how much that will effect the battery life.
i bought the 2200mah battery on ebay for 19 bucks yeah its bigger but the battery life was imaculant the stock battery if i used it most of the day then i would have to charge it all the time like say i go to work at 7 check my emails do some web surfing listen to music by 4 in the afternoon my battery life was at 1 bar and if your always on a constant go to places and the only charge you get is in the car but your not sitting there waiting for it to fully charge...here's one situation that really pissed me off i was 30 min away from home then suddenly my car dies (the altenator goes out) and from using my phone all day i tried to make calls but then the battery on the phone dies so i cant charge it or make any calls so i had to walkl to the nearest gas station to use their phone all cause the battery life of the phone sucked so the next day i ordered the 2200 mah battery and it lasted 2-3 days without charging

I was thinking about getting an extended battery as well. but then i though about the size. Is it worth it? If my Excalibur is going to be just as big as my Universal then i might as well keep my Universal!
Do you have your phone in your pocket? If so is it very comfitable and does it bulge out if you have tight jeans on?
I know what you mean with bad experiences with battery life!
My battery on my Universal is getting ready to die so much that if its completely flat it just wont charge with my car charger!
I was at work which involves alot of driving using my gps and Universal, my gps was going flat so i plugged that into my car. Mean while i didnt notice that my Universal was going flat as well. I couldnt do anything! So i just prayed that my Universal wouldnt go flat before my gps had enough charge to last a little while longer. But i was wrong. My Universal went flat and i was done for. My boss was very annoyed that he couldnt contact me and i got a big telling off!

If you go for extended your better of going for a Simplo Sendo etc rather than buying a cheap a*s battery off ebay.
simplo battery 2200 mAh
how much does it cost?
That looks rather nice actually. Blends in quite well with the back of the phone.
Where can i get a Simplo Sendo from. I presume ebay? (Im from New Zealand by the way)

I have no idea as i blagged by carrier out of 2 x 1550mAh have a look like you said on ebay but sure there will be other suppliers and as previous mentioned no point buyin cheap as Simplo are well renound for battery's.
Personally I prefer to carry an extra normal sized battery as I really like the slim design!
And as it´s my wife´s device (even if I´m the one installing an uninstalling ROM´s and apps ) she only use it for calls and sms so battery lasts a lot
Still haven't got my phone yet
Hope there wasn't a muck up at the post!
I just received the 1550mah simplo battery with cover from an ebay outfitter based in hk for a total of $15. Its the original oem part with an htc branded cover. Works great. The cover fits much better than the one for the 2200 batteres.

I've never heard of this brand before, but man, these batteries are amazing. From day one, I've never had great battery with my EVO, usually dead by 6pm from 7am unplug. Recently my orginal batteries stopped working. I would charge to 100%, and it would die in 5 minutes, so I had to go hunting for batteries.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1700mAh-Batteries-Incredible-Multi-purpose/dp/B0050MUSLY I personally vouch for these batteries. 200mAH difference seems small, and it might be, but these batteries last me almost 2 days, and is the same size as OEM batteries. Also very good price. I ordered the double because we have two evos in the house, but if you want just one then here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1700mAh-Battery-Multi-purpose-Charger/dp/B004KW5E8W
I HIGHLY recommend these, the battery was my biggest problem with the evo, and this just flat out ended that problem. I've had the batteries for about 2 weeks now, and still performing very well. I'm too lazy for screenshot, but right now it has been 12h 24m on battery, and I'm at 59 percent.
All in all, if you have battery problems, buy these.
BUY THEM!!!
Lots of batteries do well the first few days, and then lose capacity quickly after. Do another test next week and do a comparison, see if there is any drop off.
I noticed from your other threads that you used to have cyanogenmod, but had some issues and switched to a sense rom. Which one did you finally settle on?
I too had issues with aosp and after trying out over a dozen sense roms, I went back to cyanogenmod, spent some time with it, and finally solved all my problems.
It's still going strong after 2 weeks! But I will wait another week and report back. I ended up settling with Synergy Rls1 non-godmode with Lithid's Freedom-Agressive Kernel.

hmm thats odd. cyanogenmod is the only rom that doesn't work for me haha. im using miui at the moment and its is 100% perfect (at least the build im using) and i usually swap between decks, miui, and mikg. my phone just refuses to cooperate with cm even after many attempts at it...
how do this compare to the Sprints 2600mah battery. Looking to switch back to a slimmer battery.
I've never had a sprint 2600mAH so can't say anything, but this definitely outlasts the original battery by miles

You are going to get at least a 10% bump in battery stamina simply by virtue of the fact that you are using a fully charged battery from the charger and not getting the fast initial 10% drop caused by HTC's charging algorithm. That being said, I also have these batteries and for the price and and extra mAh, they are great. Keep one in the charger and pop it in when you go to work and last all day.
have nothing to say about these batteries.. But I am subscribing to this thread to keep my on the discussion. I bought a 3500 gorilla gadget and i am kinda disappointing. It is not holding a charge like it used to (after only 4 months). So I may be due for a replacement. These sound interesting.
I wanna get a new battery, isnt there a 2150mah battery that is the same form factor as OEM batteries? I wanna grab one of those, im already getting an easy 2 days out of a charge, **** if I got a bigger battery id be able to go a week with light use.

I bought a cheap 3500 off of ebay has worked great for a year but now its starting to die i only paid seven bucks for it and the back but been thinking about dropping to a slimmer battery may have to check these out
Thanks for the tip...I need a new battery.

The battery will fit, however, you won't be able to get a stock battery door on over it. You'll have to find an extended battery door or duct tape it in place, lol.
Anyone have a link to a higher mah battery than stock but will fit own size and is road tested? Although the 4.67 update rocks, I still want a lil more juice.

My weekend usage with the Anker 1700 mah battery really not doing much so don't think I was watching YouTube videos, playing games and talking on the phone much. Was a pretty laid back weekend and stayed on WiFi except a few quick trips to the supermarket but still, never had anything close to this battery life.

Working a 12 hr. shift tonight into tomorrow morning which will be much more standard/heavy usage i.e. 4G, tethering, phone and texts. I'm going to leave this battery in and pocket a fully charged spare just in case. Will report how long the first lasted during standard usage on 3G and 4G.

dangggg haha. The most ive gotten is like 2d 3hours, that's ridiculous lol. These do seem to reserve battery while relaxed MUCH better than original evo batteries.

Well here you have it! I did my normal 12 hr. shift last night with several phone calls including a long one with Verizon technical support because our FIOS was offline at home last night. I have Gmail set to push, got and sent several text messages, about 15 app updates, Titanium Backup auto backup on and about 30 mins. of tethering my tablet over 4G. With the stock battery I was constantly plugging in to bump the charge throughout the night. I have not touched a charger in 3 days!
To to OP, Amazing is an understatement! If anyone is considering a battery replacement look no further because these are surely the best investment I've ever made for my Evo! Of course YMMV but if the below doesn't convince you I don't know what will.
Get them today for $13.00!!!!! I swear I'm not a spokesman but these are so good and I'm so happy with them I've just got to share with the people I've learned and gotten so much from here on XDA.

That's pretty amazing battery life. I think I may have to try this out. Thanks for the info.
I followed all the instructions from from seidio, let the battery fully discharge, then leave it on the charger for an extra couple hours after its full and do this for the first 5 or so charges. After this i repeated the test EVIL JIMMY did with the screen brightness all the way up bluetooth on 4g on and mobile hotspot on and watched the 10 hour nyan cat video. My battery lasted for 3.5 hours? With my stock 1850 battery i was over 2.5 hours. does anyone else have this battery yet and what kind of battery life are you getting? One of the biggest reasons im upset is that the cheap chinese knock offs for the gsm phones was getting 6+
I saw your review of this on Amazon. For 70 bucks you would think the performance would match the price.
How long have you had this overall? For the first week or so my Mugen Power (xperia play) had awful performance. It wasn't until after all that conditioning that it really shined.
Maybe you just got a bad unit?
try to calibrate the battery, download battery left from the market, it will take days or about a week to fully calibrate a battery.
sorry to hear that man,
i got the cheap chinese one like jimmy and got around 7hrs of rundown test

I am putting it through it's 4th charge cycle. I live around NYC and have LTE. I have gotten MUCH better performance on this battery and am a heavy user of Netflix, Youtube, my screen is about 75% of the way bright, and I use Google Music (streaming) a lot. I feel bad for the few bad reviews I have read. I am happy to say, the least amount of time I have gotten on my daily VERY heavy usage has been 23 hours, a great improvement for me personally from the Samsung Extended battery. I wonder if there are some duds out there, as I read a review on Amazon of someone who is only getting 4 hours of screen time (and only 3 hours on the stock battery). Even if the brightness was maxed out, on LTE, and overclocked, I am not sure how you could possibly only get 4 hours with this. I feel so bad for him, I wonder if the phone is defective, or perhaps, the battery connector has an issue? I am not an expert, I just don't see how I can pull over 24 hours with my heavy usage (except for my one 23 hour day), and I have not even finished conditioning the battery fully yet. Anyway, even though it adds some bulk, the extended door was NO WHERE NEAR as BIG as it looked in the pictures. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Seidio Surface Extended Case, so at least everything is the same color now. I hope others out there give their review, as I can't believe I'm the only one who is getting a lot of hours out of this battery. It's MASSIVE lol

I bought both the battery and the case for the battery off of Ebay. The case fits extremely well and although it doesn't really have much shock protection it at the very least will stop scratches.
Still in the process of conditioning the battery but the simple fact that Seidio had the foresight to actually produce a case for it was enough for me to use it.
I am pretty sure OP just got a dud.
After a couple of days use I can safely say that my Sedio 3800 works amazingly well.
I also have the case that covers the phone AND the enormous battery and it fits wonderfully.
Both highly recommended if you have to be on the go for some time.
Seidio 3800 with NFC impression
I decided to pick up the Seidio 3800 with NFC after trying to save money on the Qcell 3850 and found it to be total crap. This is the first cycle and its looking pretty good. I followed the instruction and charged it for 8 hours before i used it. Most of the battery drain was me trying to kill it by streaming videos on Netflix.
Kernel - Lean Kernel 3.2.1
Rom - AOKP b31
Percentage - 2
Battery time - 18h 15m 50s
Screen on time - 6h 45m 59s
I was connected to Wifi all day.
It really depends on the usage. I bought the samsung extended and I still had problems with it NOT lasting all day. My old phone's battery (Blackberry, garbage I know) lasted all day so I just had to charge it every night. That's kind of what I was looking for in a battery. I don't really care about size, so I tried the Seidio 3800 and I finally got an all-day charge.

$25 for such a large battery sounds quite suspicious... but the amazon reviews arent that bad!

It is quite heavy and bulky though, nowhere near as svelte as the stock. It doesn't look that bad really, the back cover is textured like the stock cover.
Says it has NFC capabilities, but I don't use them, so I am not sure.
The one thing I found curious about it is the seeming uptick on the battery percentage at some times. Percentage would go up a percent or two every now and then when not charging or being used. I did not wipe battery stats prior to using this, so that may explain it. I will continue using the battery (back to the svelte stock today), but it has outperformed my hopes so far.
eh...a little out of budget
whats the sceen on time?
I'm able to get 5:30 hours of screen on time with the official 2000mah extended battery on my gsm gn.
I'm looking to get an extended battery, but it needs to do at least 7 hours of screen on time for it to be worth it.

Don't have a number yet. Doing another test today. Will update. Of course, the battery varies whether I am in LTE range or not. Also varies with brightness of the screen, etc. Therefore, I don't think screen on time by itself is very helpful in the determination.

Clearing battery stats does NOTHING. N.O.T.H.I.N.G. The "uptick" is what happens when you slam the battery really hard (video streaming, gaming, whatever) and cause it to drop. The voltage will recover a bit from that once you stop, which cause the phone to recalculate the remaining power. All lithium batteries do this, you just notice it more on large cells because you can drain two watts from it without it dying first.

I will put some pictures up tonight or tomorrow. I don't use a case, so I don't know about what would fit. It is quite different size-wize, so something like the Seido case referenced above or a "bumper" case is probably your best bet.

29 hours on a charge this time. Probably 2-3 hours of LTE during that period - that definitely makes a dent. Pretty consistent use with a few heavy segments of use.
And for your question regarding on screen time:
But, like I said, I don't think you can judge too much off of that. All depends on screen brightness, LTE, etc.

I wasn't upset, nor do I blame you for thinking the way you did. That rumor swirled around here for the better part of 2 years. It just needs to be made abundantly clear to everyone that the battStats myth is a placebo. It doesn't do anything. In fact, the stats get cleared every time you unplug your phone after you charge it.
Pictures
As promised, here are some pictures:
The first two are with the stock battery installed:
Next three are just the covers, side by side. Stock obviously on the left in the first two.
Last three are the extended battery installed.
Let me know if you would like some other shots taken.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the battery. i easily get 1 day without having to charge. I actually like the heft that is added with the battery as well, makes the phone more substantial and seem less fragile.
I bought this battery as soon as I saw the thread. I received and installed it yesterday. I charged it for the full twelve hours that the manufacturer recommended and I'm on my first cycle now... so I can't comment on battery life. But as for the battery cover... it doesn't fit as well as I had planned. But it stays on, and is comfortable to hold. I actually like the larger back and the added weight that the battery brings.
I will report back with battery results after a few charge cycles.
