Please Help
I've been trying to fix my wife's phone for the last 26 hrs....stayed up all night reading, and reading, and.....reading. All sorts of threads out there, but nothing specific to the problem I'm having.
I was preparing to root her phone (Evo 4g), powered it down, and loaded up HBOOT to check the version numbers and such. I didn't change anything or install anything...simply selected reboot and at that point the phone went into a boot loop.
Eventually it loaded to the lock screen where it said, "no signal" and would proceed from that back to the boot loop. (white screen of death as some say)
the loading time for the 1st and 2nd splash screens are what consumed most of my time. between 6-15 min.
So this is a stock evo 4g, no root, s-on.
I decided that If i wipe the phone and root it, it would most likely resolve the problem. ....apparently not so.
Currently, i now possess a rooted evo 4g.

I can access recovery, i'm using RA-supersonic-v4.3-smelkusMOD
I was able to load lewa-12.12.18-supersonic-stable.f78e43.zip
I get to the unlock screen and my touch screen doesn't work.
Is there a way to fix the touch screen? it doesn't respond at all.
before i flashed this one, the only other one I could get to load was Digital Karma V8, that one works with the touch, but I can't get it to load now. It just fires back into the perpetual loop.
Any thoughts?

Huh-boy, sounds like a world of hurt you've been going through.
Hmm, I'm running the exact sane setup you are, don't ya love DKV8 (well, when it works for you, of course)?
As for your wife's phone, common sense tells me It's a hardware issue... And what stinks is that to get a recovery on there you need to root, which means you have to get into the phone... Weird. I'm hoping she has a warranty of some sort, might wanna get a new one. Then again, you could still be able to root it using adb or something, try searching that.
As for your phone, have you tried wiping, reflashing, etc? Fixing permissions in smelkus?
And how are you wiping before flashing V8? Personally, I do a factory reset first, then super wipe, then wipe battery stats, rotate stats, temp files.... Pretty much everything but the SD card, then I flash, wipe cache and dalvik, then reboot. Should be a nice and clean install. If that doesn't work, it could be your Rom zip, might've gotten corrupted during download, try downloading again.

I dont have this phone, but I once had a Shift, after I got it back from repairs the touch wasn't working. A simple battery pull fixed it. Hope that is your issue as well eventhough it would be painful for that to be what was wrong with it this whole time. 26 hours is a long time to be awake lol.

Hey all,
I'm at my wit's end. After a random reboot at one point while I was running CM7 Wimax beta 6 my Evo began continually restarting after hitting the white HTC EVO 4G splash screen. I can get into HBOOT, but I cannot access the SD card via USB, nor can I get into recovery. Thankfully I have USB MicroSD reader, so I can access at least attempt to flash things.
I've tried to flash new recoveries, stock ROMs from a PC36IMG.zip, various methods of unrooting so I can just physically return the device, with no success. All I can ever seem to do is hold the volume down button while it's booting to get to HBOOT, and nothing I flash seems to let me get any further.
Does anyone have any advice? I'd be happy with just unrooting the bastard and exchanging it at this point, but obviously if I can flash a ROM again that'd be ideal.
Thanks in advance.
your best bet would be to grab the ruu, pull your battery, boot into the bootloader, let it find the ruu and flash that. That should restore all of the files on the phone. After that you can run unrevoked or whatever you want and root again.
I've tried flashing the latest RUU and while it seemed to have updated my HBoot to 2.10 it hasn't fixed any of the issues I've been having.
Here's the information I can retrieve off the HBoot screen:

HBOOT-2.10.0001

As of this morning im having the same problem from cm7. Can only get to hboot not recovery. 1 random reboot put me into white htc screen loop. Can't use pc36img, says its updating my recovery but then just loops again. plugging in via usb doesnt work.
Thanks for replying. This is a crappy position to be in, but at least now we know it's not isolated.
If anyone has any suggestions please let us know.
i guess we are the only 2 people having this exact same problem,
Hello I was wondering if anybody could help me out here:
I used the Unrevoked method to gain root access then about 3 weeks ago I installed CM7 on my EVO that I got in July using Clockwork mod. It was working pretty much flawlessly for the time being than last night it got stuck in a bootloop randomly. When I turn it on it gets to the white "HTC EVO 4G" screen, hangs there for 5 seconds then reboots itself. It will continue this cycle until I do a battery pull.
When I hold down the power button and volume down rocker I can get into the menu with the following options: Fastboot, Recovery,Clear Storage, Simlock, HBOOT USB. Hitting Recovery sends me straight back into the boot loop. Here is the info that is listed here:

I tried using an RUU but it always failing due to it saying my battery is below 30% despite using two fully charged batteries.
Any suggestions on how I can revive it?
I have the insurance but will they be able to tell if its been rooted since it for some reason says S-ON. Or would I be better off just claiming that I lost it and paying the 100 dollar deductible?

Did you use unrevoked 3? To root? Amon 2.3 does a full wipe better then clockwork. Did you pull battery and hold the power button down for 15 seconds will clear the memory. Try that then run your phone again. Let me know what's going on. What CM7 build were you on? Have no idea how your S came back on.
I did indeed used Unrevoked 3. Tried the battery pull suggestion, nothing changed.
Since it says s-on in the bootloader, you should be fine to claim through insurance. If they can't tell that you caused the problem, they'll give you a new phone (or a refurb) for free. Try downloading the RUU in PC36IMG form and flashing through the bootloader instead. If you can get it to take, you should be good.
You can find the RUU here: http://goo-inside.me/evo/stock/ruu/
Rename to PC36IMG.zip - don't add the zip, it's already there. Put it on the root of the SD card and boot into the bootloader. When it asks you to update, choose yes with volume up.

Hi Friends,
I did a lot of searching and tried a bunch of things, but I am not very successful. Can you experts please tell me if my EVO is dead/gone for good?
Symtoms:
My Evo was charging (it was rooted and S-Off), I took the charger cable off, and the phone rebooted.
It went to the White HTC Evo screen that comes before any ROM boots, and basically looped their infinitely.
Since then, the symptoms have switched back and forth from Bootloops on the white screen OR STUCK on the white screen, infinitely.
Currently, I am getting white screen boot loops
Things I have tried:
1. Cleared Storage (via Bootloader/Fastboot)
2. Chose "Recovery" from Bootloader/Fastboot (nothing happens, reboots and stuck on the white screen or loops)
3. Reverted back to S-ON
4. Flashed other Recovery zips
5. Upgraded the Fastboot version
6. Flashed the RUU
Current Situation:
Nothing changed guys... and after the RUU flash (out of which the Radio flash was the only component that FAILED) my PC31IMG.zip files are no longer being promoted for updates in my Fastboot/Bootloader menu.
While the reboots continue on the white screen...
Can't access Recovery
Can't run PC36IMG.zips anymore
Am I done here guys, or is there still anything I can do to save my EVO?
Appreciate ALL your help!
Man I have the same problem execept I'm not rooted or s off if you change the battery and let it sit for awhile off it will turn on but it will reboot in about 5 mintues then get stuck on the sprint 4g screen of the htc screen
Hey theneguy,
Thanks for your response... My phone was rooted, but is now S-On and Unrooted, I believe (I can't tell because I am not able to get in the OS).
I can't get into Recovery and my PC31IMG is not being read now...
Any ideas, friends?

same thing happened to my son, pulled sd card and it would boot fine, found and deleted a corrupt .img file on sd...all is fine
Latest Update guys:
I tried flashing the RUU via HBoot/Flashboot, and the update failed, but the progress bar at the screen was full/successful. The on-screen wizard tried to take me to the "Recovery" steps, nothing was fixed.
The computer wizard was stuck at: Sending Signature....
And the phone had the full progress bar from the previous flash.
So I yanked the battery out, cause I had no options left.
Well, needless to say, now, NOTHING turns on. The phone doesn't charge, and blah, blah, blah.
So guys, can someone give me a verdict... is my EVO done for good?
Thanks for your help.
I can't get in the recovery eather I tryed pulling the sd card out it is still doing the same thang

It should be PC36IMG not 31.

Thanks Mark,
But I don't think it matters anymore... I think with the battery pulled out after a failed RUU.exe installation has truly bricked my phone for good.
It doesn't charge, the battery was good, NOTHING lights up, and I just think it's game over...

I think you're right...
Friends evo just started doing this today - he didn't make any changes or do anything to the phone to cause this. It just keeps cycling through the sprint splash screen/start up sound over and over.
its not rooted/unlocked - it's stock from sprint
If i try going into recovery, i get the black and white htc evo screen. And then I get an icon of a green arrow with green arrows circling around it and after a few seconds i get a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it, which i assume is a bad thing.
Is there anything I can do to try and fix this?
and again - stock, not rooted/not unlocked - running whatever rom is current with sprint.
thanks
Same here except sometimes times it loads up into android but after a few minutes it starts rebooting again. I rooted the phone to see if that would fix it but still stuck in boot loop with it occassionaly loading into android.

I just fixed my friends phone by doing the following:
downloaded this RUU RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe
download htc sync
installed htc sync
uninstalled htc sync (keep the drivers).
press the power btn and the volume down button until you get into hboot - wait a few seconds for it to fully boot. Select fastboot. Plug your phone into your pc. Run the RUU - wait a few minutes for it to do it's thing and phone is working now.
not sure how this will work for you if your phone is rooted, as this was done on an unrooted phone.

I have been trying to fix my daughter's evo 4g from Sprint. Its at least 2 years old. She no longer uses it because it went into infinite boot loop. Itws not hooked up and is in no warranty.
I have done the hard factory reset. There is no issue with saqving anything on the phone. I have tried everything I could find so far in the forums. I may have missed some things. idk.
Ive wiped cache.

Been awhile since i did this. But search "revolutionary s-off". Do this to gain s-off. Download and flash "smelkus recovery" (find directions in post, search xda). Then try wiping everything and installing a room.
Might work, might not... but if not, that's a stylish paper weight
Riding the Uni on the GSIII
Well, problem wasn't fixed, but the phone was lost/stolen; so it's gone and now at least I don't have to worry about this
I've spent the last 6 hours attempting to fix it, after spending 3 hours getting it onto the new network.. Posting this finally as a last resort..
...My previous phone stopped working, so my father gave me his old Sprint HTC Evo 4G. Called Straight Talk, Sprint, Father, Father's Boss (business line, needed pet's first name), Sprint, Straight Talk, paid $15 fee, activated!! Messages come in, 3G data shows, call works.
Fixed!
After a few minutes, I restart the phone as suggested, and BAM!, it begins to restart, and restart, and restart. I decide it must be Sprint bloatware attempting to do Sprint things, so I must root, ROM, and de-bloat.. I was able to get Smelkus Recovery working and flashed Classic v0.1.0 ROM, but it still reboots in 3-5 seconds after successfully starting. I have yet to ninja-in Airplane Mode again, but will try more later as the battery is low (seems it may need to be reset/calibrated)
Please, any and all help would be very much appreciated.. I cannot spring for a new phone right now and I really need to get phone access back online.
Thank you for your time
FIXED
Well, things start to get worse.. Soon enough, it won't even get past the HTC initial power-on screen. I still have access to fastboot, but cannot access stock then Smelkus recovery (starts HTC startup screen loop), nor reach the Sprint start-up screen.
I successfully unlocked the HBoot via HTCDev, then began to attempt to get an actual start by trying to run a few old RUU (signature fails) and flashing manually as another suggested each partition (got boot, radio, userdata, then system.img data length too large).
Still stuck at HTC EVO 4G loop. My biggest obstacles are broken links to builds and lack of complete information about solutions..
Here is my Hboot info:

As far as I know, I can only fastboot flash at this time. I attempted earlier to install/flash a few RUU and OTA, via fastboot and the P6IMG.zip or something update method: both failed to authenticate. I saw another user mention flashing all specific partitions; but unfortunately, I don't have the files I need for that.
Back to the original problem
Luckily the Smelkus Recovery started working, and I did Super Wipe and flashed Classic v.0.1.0 ROM. It booted up successfully, but now continues to force reboot as soon as it starts up.This first started after a restart soon after activating it on Straight Talk. I once (before only Hboot was accessible) was able to quickly turn it onto Airplane Mode, and after it restarted it stayed on. I foolishly turned Airplane mode off after it had been on a while, hoping it had settled in: it immediately started rebooting again.
The phone had been on for several minutes, received messages, and made a call before I restarted it.. So I don't know why now it can't stay on..
Fixed, but now Battery Issues xD
Nailed it! Finally was able to quickly set Airplane Mode before it restarted. I then used the ROMs de-bloater to rid the system of all Sprint-related items: HTCSprintService, Sprint Hotspot, and several more. Also got rid of all the social networking bloatware, and a few other unnecessaries. I now can safely turn off Airplane Mode But, it seems the battery is juiced out, going from '100%' to dead in a 5 minute call. I'll let it fully charge and reset the battery stats, but I may just have to order a new battery.. Not the worst problem to have
Problem has returned! I've narrowed it down to 2 points: at start-up, 3-5 seconds after boot, and when I try to update the PRL. Any ideas on how to fix this? Originally, before I first restarted the phone after Straight Talk activation, I successfully updated my Profile and PRL, but now it seems to restart the reboot loop.
