Hello I was wondering if anybody could help me out here:
I used the Unrevoked method to gain root access then about 3 weeks ago I installed CM7 on my EVO that I got in July using Clockwork mod. It was working pretty much flawlessly for the time being than last night it got stuck in a bootloop randomly. When I turn it on it gets to the white "HTC EVO 4G" screen, hangs there for 5 seconds then reboots itself. It will continue this cycle until I do a battery pull.
When I hold down the power button and volume down rocker I can get into the menu with the following options: Fastboot, Recovery,Clear Storage, Simlock, HBOOT USB. Hitting Recovery sends me straight back into the boot loop. Here is the info that is listed here:

I tried using an RUU but it always failing due to it saying my battery is below 30% despite using two fully charged batteries.
Any suggestions on how I can revive it?
I have the insurance but will they be able to tell if its been rooted since it for some reason says S-ON. Or would I be better off just claiming that I lost it and paying the 100 dollar deductible?

Did you use unrevoked 3? To root? Amon 2.3 does a full wipe better then clockwork. Did you pull battery and hold the power button down for 15 seconds will clear the memory. Try that then run your phone again. Let me know what's going on. What CM7 build were you on? Have no idea how your S came back on.
I did indeed used Unrevoked 3. Tried the battery pull suggestion, nothing changed.
Since it says s-on in the bootloader, you should be fine to claim through insurance. If they can't tell that you caused the problem, they'll give you a new phone (or a refurb) for free. Try downloading the RUU in PC36IMG form and flashing through the bootloader instead. If you can get it to take, you should be good.
You can find the RUU here: http://goo-inside.me/evo/stock/ruu/
Rename to PC36IMG.zip - don't add the zip, it's already there. Put it on the root of the SD card and boot into the bootloader. When it asks you to update, choose yes with volume up.

i rooted my replacement incredible (before loading the latest OTA update and before activating it). now it's stuck in a constant boot loop. it shows the htc incredible screen, then the quiety briliant screen, then the droid animation, lock screen for maybe a second, and then reboots.
i tried flashing a clockwork mod recovery i had before from my old phone and it still said the same thing. i've tried clearing out the data and cache and still nothing.
any ideas?
What's your h-boot, and do you have s-off?
You can download and rename this PB31IMG.zip and put in on the root of your sd card. Then hold vol down + power for 5 seconds with the phone off to boot into hboot. Then just wait and follow the prompts to install.
This will get you to the stock rom before the latest OTA update. Then I guess try to root again and see if it does the same thing.

It's a questionable whether or not they'll even notice. I sent in a phone back in August that was s-off and suffering from repeated reboots and everything's been kosher.

If you can boot into the bootloader, try flashing a PC36IMG.zip of the RUU through the bootloader. I don't have one handy, but I'll see if I can find you one.
I'm not sure how flashing to/from Sprint works. Are you trying to unroot? If you are, then you need to flash the unrevoked s-on zip in recovery before running the RUU.
Not good. I had this issue and spent days trying to fix it. Luckily it switched to S-ON so I was able to get it replaced at the sprint store for $35.
if you can use bootloader or recovery i would try flashing the latest sprint radios
Try this if you're unrooting back to stock:

and renamed both to pc36img and still cant get past white evo screen before it vibrates and goes blank and can't get into recovery to flash unrevoke s-on

Can you get into the bootloader by vol down + power buttons until you see the skating androids? I'm assuming so since the info you posted is from the bootloader.
If so, put the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your SD and boot into the bootloader. Make sure that it's named correctly & not PC36IMG.zip.zip. By default, you should only see PC36IMG in Windows because extensions are hidden. You'll still be s-off if unrevoked or unrevoked forever was ever used, but you'll have a bootable phone.
i tried the link which provided the 2 PC36IMG zip and followed those directions, but when I flashed the unrevoke s-on zip is aborted b/c it couldn't verify. so now instead of 5 vibrates and blank screen with green flashing light its just rebooting the white htc evo. but something did work b/c now my hboot screen shows

What exactly did it say when you tried to flash the s-on zip? I'm assuming you no longer have a recovery?
If not, here's a PC36IMG of Amon Ra 2.3, try flashing it through the bootloader like you did before. If you can get it to flash, choose no when it asks you to reboot then try to boot into recovery. From there you can try flashing the stock rooted rom. In theory this shouldn't work since if the first PC36IMG took you're not rooted, despite being s-off.
Are you following some kind of guide to flash back to Sprint? Are there any steps following running the RUU that you can do?
Recovery here: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
It couldn't verify the system type in the intial flash but i just used the new recovery and it flashed the unrevoked successfully now my evo shows s-on and its updating to the ruu pc36img now.
the link you sent me too earlier has instructions with it and I'm following those to do the ruu.
thank you very much you have been very helpful
i will post after the update is done to let you know the results
the RUU update has completed and it has rebooted to the white evo screen and has stay for the past 3 or 4 mins
so I pulled the battery and turn it back on and still went through the reboot loop of the white evo screen. Im reinstalled the ruu update as i type right now. and as of now my hboot shows:

finished updating and now when it reboot it just sits in the white htc evo screen
How long do you let it sit at the white screen? Sometimes it can take 15-20 minutes.
oh i only let it sit for 7 minutes or so do i need to reflash and update or just let it sit the next time ?
also when you pulled the battery it would boot to eithewr the 4g screen or sprint screen before it continuiously reboot or reboot to white screen
I honestly don't know the best way to go.
I would try reflashing it and see where it goes from there. If that doesn't work, maybe go into Amon RA and wipe CACHE, DALVIK-CACHE, DATA, BOOT AND SYSTEM. Then try the RUU again.

how would i go about getting to amon ra to wipe said files?
now my evo will start and get all the way to the home screen and then restart i mean its better then nothing but i still dont have anything useable at the moment but thanks to all that have help. i have tried to rerun the ruu through bootloader but still not getting a bootable phone. Would it be possible to root the phone whilst connected in bootloader since im not able to connect through htc sync
Also i no longer have root access
Have you flashed the pc36img of amon ra yet? Then selected the recovery option in the Bootloader, then wiping or flashing? You could also flash the latest sprint radio, prl and pri just to be on the safe side.

i used to be able to flash amon ra not when i use it as pc36img zip it loads then checks the pc36img then back to hboot screen.
as of now my evo you get all the way to the home screen where you must unlock it then will reboot
its almost as if it doesn't know how to get any further

What state is your phone in now, s-on, or s-off, its current state, and where you need to go; kinda lost reading through the thread.
Rooted my Dinc. Installed CM7. All was well for 3 weeks. Used it one day until the battery went dead. Charged and tried to boot. It appears that it goes through the boot sequence (it vibrates) but nothing comes up on the screen. Nada, black.
Any ideas?
Screen might have went bad. You should just try your best to unroot it before you send it in

Have you tried pulling the battery?
Sometimes the phone can get stuck in a state where trying to turn it on results in a series of vibrations but nothing else happening. Pulling the battery resolves this.
Unless flashing a radio, when in doubt pull the battery.
Pulled the battery and re-booted. Nada.
Returned to the Verizon store. Their tech had no luck and ordered a replacement. Verizon ordered a replacement and left me with the phone. They said that when the replacement comes in they will switch it out. I'm hoping that means I've dodged the warranty issue.

That's odd. I had this problem when I went to unroot my phone, being that I had an SLCD and it did not like the 2.1 stock ROM. The screen was blank but it would vibrate and continue to boot.
If this is the case, you could always try to unroot it and see...Here are some instructions on how to do this (its what I had to do)
I went to unroot and flashed a stock 2.1 ROM. Although this sounds correct, there is a problem. The stock 2.1 ROM was made for the release DInc's, and those, my friend, come AMOLED. So by flashing that stock 2.1 ROM, it does not contain the correct hardware drivers to support the display on the newer batch of DInc, the SLCD.
What I did was:
Download the correct ROM that supports the SLCD from here (which can be found on http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108 )
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip and place that file in the root of your sdcard.
Now since your phone's display doesnt work, like you said it vibrates once, like normal, your phone still functions properly.
Boot your phone into HBOOT and allow it a few minutes (2 minutes to be safe), like normal to find this PB31IMG.zip file. It then will prompt you to press UP to confirm the update or press DOWN to not update. (you will not see this, but if you have flashed a radio then you know this process)
when you press up, it will then start updating to the stock ROM. however, you wont see any of this. just a black screen.
allow that to run, usually for 10 minutes. to be safe wait 15-18 minutes and then press UP. When the update is complete you are asked to reboot. UP for yes DOWN for no. again you will not see this. Then when it reboots....you will be happy and see the HTC Incredible white screen
You can give this a try and see if it works. I know you did not mention unrooting your phone, but if you have nothing on your screen, you can try this

can you access the recovery by going into the hboot, if so, all you need to do is flash a ROM from scratch, or restore a back up
no i cannot click on hboot, it just automatically reads the sd card and then loads the p98 file and gets stuck on parsing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396253&highlight=hboot
ive been trying to follow this guide but i put the pd98 file from the first link on the sd card then boot up my phone and the phone is still stuck but reads the pd98 file and gets stuck on the parsing screen again and all it says is [1] recovery.
also i dont know if it helps everytime i power on my phone it automatically goes to hboot screen, i dont have to hold the volume down button.
Have you tried removing the p98 zip from the sdcard and then booting into recovery from the bootloader? or removing the sd card completely, and then powering on the phone?
yeah without the sd card when i try to turn it on it goes to the hboot screen and just stays there, i cant move up or down and with the sd card without the pd98 file, the phone looks for pd98img twice and doesnt find it and then looks for pd98 file and doesnt find it and then goes back to hboot screen
and thanks for getting back to me man and trying to help out!
I came across someone else with this issue not that long ago. Unfortunately your ribbons running to your volume keys, or other related hardware, have become damaged or failed prematurely and your volume key is indefinitely stuck down. The only way to fix this would be to replace the failed part yourself. The inspire is difficult to take apart and requires a special tool to remove the camera so warranty may be your best bet.
do you know how much repairs like that usually cost professionally?
If you have at&t, its free for your first one to braeak, it has to be software, so they won't know that its the volume rocker is broken. Because what it mostly looks like is software.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
well i cant send it to att bc i didnt buy it from them, bought from a third party. is there a place i can order the parts and do it myself?
also maybe its a volume rocker problem bc if i hold the volume up button with the powerbutton it vibrates a couple of time and the led stays solid green but the screen remains blank. doesnt that show the rocker still works bc the combination of the volume and power triggered a different response then just pressing the power and the phone going into hboot?

i have a wierd situation. when i go into hboot, it vibrates like heck and it finally gets on. i can chose recovery and it vibes like crazy but it eventually does load. i get to cwm and i can do all the operations. wipe data, partitions etc etc. i install from zip card and it is successful. i reboot phone and it vibes like crazy and eventually the zip does work and the rom is flashed. i just found it peculiar that my hboot is screwy, but i can still flash roms, wipe data, go to recovery and etc. do i have anyting to worry about, or should i just stick with the screwy hboot? idk how to fix the hboot . any suggestions or insight would be surely appreciated.

Hi Friends,
I did a lot of searching and tried a bunch of things, but I am not very successful. Can you experts please tell me if my EVO is dead/gone for good?
Symtoms:
My Evo was charging (it was rooted and S-Off), I took the charger cable off, and the phone rebooted.
It went to the White HTC Evo screen that comes before any ROM boots, and basically looped their infinitely.
Since then, the symptoms have switched back and forth from Bootloops on the white screen OR STUCK on the white screen, infinitely.
Currently, I am getting white screen boot loops
Things I have tried:
1. Cleared Storage (via Bootloader/Fastboot)
2. Chose "Recovery" from Bootloader/Fastboot (nothing happens, reboots and stuck on the white screen or loops)
3. Reverted back to S-ON
4. Flashed other Recovery zips
5. Upgraded the Fastboot version
6. Flashed the RUU
Current Situation:
Nothing changed guys... and after the RUU flash (out of which the Radio flash was the only component that FAILED) my PC31IMG.zip files are no longer being promoted for updates in my Fastboot/Bootloader menu.
While the reboots continue on the white screen...
Can't access Recovery
Can't run PC36IMG.zips anymore
Am I done here guys, or is there still anything I can do to save my EVO?
Appreciate ALL your help!
Man I have the same problem execept I'm not rooted or s off if you change the battery and let it sit for awhile off it will turn on but it will reboot in about 5 mintues then get stuck on the sprint 4g screen of the htc screen
Hey theneguy,
Thanks for your response... My phone was rooted, but is now S-On and Unrooted, I believe (I can't tell because I am not able to get in the OS).
I can't get into Recovery and my PC31IMG is not being read now...

same thing happened to my son, pulled sd card and it would boot fine, found and deleted a corrupt .img file on sd...all is fine
Latest Update guys:
I tried flashing the RUU via HBoot/Flashboot, and the update failed, but the progress bar at the screen was full/successful. The on-screen wizard tried to take me to the "Recovery" steps, nothing was fixed.
The computer wizard was stuck at: Sending Signature....
And the phone had the full progress bar from the previous flash.
So I yanked the battery out, cause I had no options left.
Well, needless to say, now, NOTHING turns on. The phone doesn't charge, and blah, blah, blah.
So guys, can someone give me a verdict... is my EVO done for good?
Thanks for your help.
I can't get in the recovery eather I tryed pulling the sd card out it is still doing the same thang

But I don't think it matters anymore... I think with the battery pulled out after a failed RUU.exe installation has truly bricked my phone for good.
