My battery spins like a top on a flat surface, this means I need a new one, right? I have the insurance on the phone.
Probably has something to do with my phone draining 50% in under 3 hours.

Yes it means you need a new one. If its less than a year old you can go to sprint and they can replace it.

What causes this to happen? Charging too frequently?
I think I remember someone saying something about when the cells heat up too much they implode.
I'm pretty sure charging it too much wouldn't do that, but maybe charging it and playing a game at the same time (or something that heats up the phone alot) would make it happen faster.

Yes heat, charging and discharge of the battery will cause that issue. Heat being the biggest culprit.
Some tips:
Don't let the battery go dead. Keep it above 10-15%.
Keep the battery temp under 120*F
That will help extend the life and help keeping it from bulging.

Samsung replaces the battery under warranty for 18 months from date of purchase. Sprint replaces them for 12 months under warranty, any time under TEP and you can buy 2 Anker replacements with an external charger for about $25 with expedited shipping.

Most likely if they dont have it they'll just reorder one for you. Unless you end up like I did and no store in driving distance had any and didnt get em for atleast 3 weeks. I gave up and ordered replacements and sent mine to samsung to get a new OEM one. Or you could get lucky and they have one in store and you walk out with one. Best bet is try a repair center instead of just retail and go to a corporate store and not 3rd party/franchise, less hassle at corporate

At our store (we're an Indirect/Preferred Dealer) if you don't pick it up within 14 days after we receive the order, we have to ship it back to the Sprint warehouse. So you'll probably have to get them to order another one for you. I'm not sure how the Corporate stores work.

Depends.
If you have the insurance, you have a $100 deductible.
If not, you probably have to buy yourself a new phone.

Have your misses pay. Determine which screen you need, then look on ebay or elsewhere. I've read it's not that difficult to replace.
First of all, to buy the parts would be almost $100 anyway, so there's no point to investing the time to fix it yourself (except maybe to save a FEW bucks). Second of all, if you have the insurance, I'm pretty sure there's no deductible for replacing the screen. The $100 should be for a stolen/lost/water damaged phone, or basically anything that can't be fixed, in which case they simply replace it. The screen is replaceable, and thus should not have a deductible. At least that's the way my local Sprint store explained it. Go to a Sprint store and find out for yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised.
What parts are needed for screen replacement? The screen I found is only 45.
Also can you add insurance to your phone after it breaks as long as they don't know?

Are you sure about this I looked on Sprints site and they said you can get it within 30 days of purchasing your phone.
You have 30 days from the date you purchased the phone to apply for insurance. But FYI, if you dont have it now, dont add it then make a claim the next day. You need to wait at least a few weeks, or they will deny your claim.

That's the exactly point I was trying to make.
well there's a couple of things going on here
1) Yes, there is a $100 deductible if you have insurance. A couple of weeks ago it would've been fixed free of charge but, Sprint did a "revision" to the new TEP policy and they're no longer covered
2) It's about the same to fix the screen yourself and to have it replaced through insurance with deductible, give or take a couple of dollars.
3) You can add insurance after 30 days if you speak to a cool rep, and make the claim within days, again if you speak to a cool rep.
4) That sucks!!
i see that there's a thread for the oem charger kit, but not for the battery itself. so anyway, i just called tmo tech support and told them that i have been having very inconsistent battery life. say today i unplugged after reaching 100%, then 6-7hrs later after waking up-i only have 69% left. it's been happening every other day now, and i purposely exit all active apps and clear the ram before unplugging, but still the same problem.
anyway, tmo is sending me a new battery for the sgs2 for free because i am still under the 90 battery warranty period. i do have to pay $11.99 for ups express shipping though, $7.99 for usps. AND i get to keep the current battery as well, so not bad for $11.99 and a new battery.
also, i'm on 2.3.6, rooted with some bloats removed/freezed, stock rom, with juice defender running, email sync is only at 4hrs. anybody have any idea on why my phone is acting like this? i know i'm not the only one with the problem, but any tips or comments are welcome. TIA.
i've checked tmo's website, but couldn't find the battery for sale, so this is fyi only.
Tmo does this when you call about the battery for just about every phone they sell. They're pretty good about sending of replacements.

The battery works just fine. Not a single problem and it lasts just about the same as the OEM battery if not better (maybe I’m just a lucky one) I have absolutely no issue with it beside it being labeled aftermarket I alternate it daily with my OEM to help prolong both.
IMHO, everyone should have at least one spare/backup battery for his/her phone.
I called them several times and none of the reps was willing to give me a free battery.
I told them about bad/inconsistent battery life. They told me I needed to call from a separate phone so they check my battery or something on my phone. They also said there would be a $20 service fee even if im under my 90 warranty period...
They also told me to just go back to the store and get a replacement phone...but no car so that's a no go.
So what EXACTLY do you guys say to get the free battery?! or did they just change the rules on that.

If you're within the 14 day period they will make you exchange the device. If you call asking for a "free" anything they're gonna deny you.
#1 always say you're calling from a different phone, even if you're not.
#2 always be courteous, appear to be calm yet bothered.
#3 keep reiterating how "unacceptable" the battery life is.
#4 anything posted here like this thread is YMMV and may not always work for every call for every caller.

You won't get denied. It depends on the reason. If it's past the 14 days and it's a legitimate battery issue... you "kind of" get a free battery... Above post stating USPS and UPS is what you will be responsible for. The correct thing to do is they will have to at least on a minimum do a full reset. If it's still having the issue go back and they can more than likely just put the battery order through for you. Some reps may even do the battery as the first step. Depends on who you get.

You could get away with it. They may ask you to do a hard reset. I recommend taking the time and just visiting the store. Store reps are easier to deal with.

This can be read like a book. Being polite will get you further. Stay calm. It's not Care or the Reps fault you may have received a faulty battery. I'm sure most of "us" as in Smart Phone users know that battery life was never that great. The more you use it the faster it dies. You "know" what you got yourself into. Don't yell at them because the phone doesn't have the battery life of a Samsung T139.

This really gets annoying. See above. You know what you got yourself into. If you are legitimately having issues... yes. It is unacceptable... But just because you want a spare. You may be caught and denied. The reps are here to keep you as a customer and keep you satisfied. Don't try to be deceiving... it's counter productive.

It really depends on who you talk to and how knowledgeable they are. It's not some mathematical system that you keep repeating the word unacceptable and appear to be bothered that you get a battery.
So there is no right way. The best thing is just be honest. It's really if you need it or not and who you talk to.
After 14 days... if you are having issues, just go to the store. Bad battery? Just let the rep know. They should be able to figure it out. You'll be responsible for shipping.
Thanks for the protips.
I agree with chrischoi (weren't you on the amaze?)
The best way is to be friendly, every rep has to go through a protocol to troubleshoot the device, after checking off what needs to be done, they are then allowed to offer what can be done. But during all the wait, it doesn't hurt to be energetic and make small talk. Imagine this is their job and they have to deal with assholes all day, so it would be nice if you are nice to them. They are more than willing to send you replacement accessories, if you put them in a good mood.
1. You can say you spoke to a rep and they told you that accessories are under warranty, and you can just ask how does that work? "Do i send back my old battery etc"
2. Try to direct it more as a battery problem not a phone problem.
"i tested my phone with my sister/friends battery and hers definitely last longer, whereas my battery dies quickly in her phone."
3. Might as well request for a charger.
"could it be my charger, or cable? Do you think it might have fried the battery by being faulty? Am i able to replace that also?" "i heard having a bad charger will eventually kill the phone"

i have insurance. my phone got run over while i was biking and the screen is shattered and the screen will not display ANYTHING but the phone actually still turns on and lights up and i can odin and all that.
so is there anyway i can go about getting the phone replaced WITHOUT paying $100 to assurion?
any advice?
once again, phone seems to actually work fine but it is not functional in that the screen remains black and will not display anything, so a replacement is needed..
EDIT:
also phone is rooted so if i took it into a sprint store, should i odin stock, and if yes wouldn't it then show my odin count @ 1?
would they even bother checking for root if the phone's screen was dead? is there any chance of me getting the phone replaced free of charge or cheaper then via insurance?

You had an accident- insurance is for accidents- they wont be looking for suspicious Roms when a phone looks like it was " run over by a car " ..be glad you have insurance- ask for a new phone- dont settle for a refurb. if you can help it. ( refurbs are usually fixed phones, prior lemons, or returns-) and last thing- cry the blues !!!! get their sympathy- maybe if its a hot sales lady, you might even get her number.... no- but seriously- use a bit of drama to get their compassion....

hahaha I hate when someone reads between my lines
Hey everyone.
Need personal opinions as I cannot decide for myself -.-
Recently got a warranty replacement device from T-Mobile.
It's a refurb.. -.-
My old one had a weird smudge in all camera apps as well as in the picture. Really annoying.
Well I got my refurb, it's got it's issues, 3 "ink" spots on the screen, my original had zero! I cannot undervolt by more than 25mA. My original could under volt by 150 across the board. The refurb gets very hot (approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit with normal use) my original hardly ever broke 90. And my battery life is freaking **** with this new device. (I'm guessing heat is the issue here)
I'm really ****ing upset. Excuse my language..
The decision I cannot make is this.
Do I request T-Mobile to ship my original device back to me(it's still in transit just dropped it off today), and either 1 deal with the camera smudge, or 2 take apart both devices and swap the camera modules?
I looked all over YouTube, I cannot find anyone saying there is a warranty sticker covering any screws.
Does anyone know if they can tell if the device was disassembled? I have professional tools so I won't leave markings behind.
Simply put, I hate this "new" device.
I don't understand why companies give refurbished devices for warranty when I am paying full price for a brand new device that should last at least a year. It's not my fault something happened that was out of my control..

Wow, that's though. I send in my Device to samsung for a fix, and they fixed it with a "replaced PBA" comment, but I saw some people say they just send another one. Hopefully it's not a refurbished. I doubt they will be able to cancel the shipping, but if they an, most definitely swap the camera modules. Having those problems on the refurbished sucks. I could have fixed mine but I sent it in hoping Id get another one which didn't die after 2.5Hrs screen on time and 12 hours running time. Switch out the cameras if possible. I myself, if I get a bad one on saturday, I'll hate my descision but Im going to go for the 16GB nexus 4. Hate the limited storage and the on screen buttons that get in the way, but heck I'm not going to live 2 years with a faulty device

Thanks for putting up with my rant lol.

I can understand your frustration With my experience working foe Tmobile and having done countless warranty exchanges since the my touch, they will not return your original device. Unless you cannsomehowncontact ups and have them stop transit and send it back and return the one they sent you. You should contact tkobile again and tell them what happened. Afaik they will not return it back to you. When it gets to their processing center it'll get factory reset, processed and possibly put back up as a refurb if it passes all their tests. You do have the option of requesting another warranty exchange, possibly going to retention this time or a higher tier of tech support.

Thanks for the reply. I was wishing to talk to someone who works for them. I really hate the newer one they sent me. No matter what ROM, kernel, modem it lasts at most about 8 hours 2 hours screen on time. And the phone gets almost too hot to hold . If I didn't have an otter box, i prolly wouldn't be able to hold it. And the worst part is is the freaking screen spots. I get its a known issue with the super amoled but Christ the phones not been released even a year! Not to mention the o e I paid full price for was/is flawless despite the camera smudge.
I'm calling them today after work and am not going to be as nice as I usually am.. I hate this ****..

I'd do that too. With the sgs2 I went through five warranty exchanges. They wouldn't offer me anything else because apparently it was the best phone they had even though they had the presale of the sgs3 going on when this happened. That's what drove me to sell it and buy a gnex. Long story short in back here.

So they want me to send this one back, and when they receive it, they will send another one back..

If I get the original one back, does anyone know if they can tell I had it apart?

I feel your pain. They pulled the same refurbished bs on me before too. And a buddy of mine on Verizon got sent back a completely different (and lower end) refurbished phone with their insurance.
I know it doesn't help your current situation, but for your next phone I suggest you check out Square Trade. They actually treat you right & are fair and honest. Only thing is they don't cover theft. But I know they WON'T send you back a freaking refurbished phone. I used them once and they were great.

Next phone I'm saying efff you to everyone. No warranty for me, no insurance either. I'm fixing it myself. Either way I'm losing money.

I called. And they can't send the original back. But they want me to send the one I have now back and once they receive it they will send me out another one. And they said they made a note that it is my second replacement so they said hopefully it will be a brand new device.

So 2 weeks ago, my phone seemed like it had the infamous sticky power button issue...Would restart on it's own, flashed back to stock, same thing, wouldn't boot half the time...So I sent it to Samsung...11 days later I get it back..they replaced a majority of the parts, but not the phone...A day of having it back, does the same thing again, this time it's worse... I called Samsung...another 10 days...I fought my way to get expedited, but still going to be without my phone...Needless to say I'm not so happy with them... Anyone else have an experience like this? If I didn't fight my way to a supervisor, I'd be 20 days out of a month without my phone... I'm really starting to lose my faith in Samsung...
Also, I've had to call 3 additional times because they cannot get the shipping address correct...
End rant!
That sucks! Last time I told my carrier, who obviously didn't care my out of warranty captivate was acting up, that I wanted a deal on a new phone since I had a year on my contract.....they said sorry...no deals.....so I said shove their service and contract up their dark hole. Paid the stupid cancellation fee and got a free S2 with a new carrier.
Sucked....but I had to get away from them.
Haven't had a warranty repair yet....this one is out of warranty too....so maybe on my next phone. The next Nexus is the plan. Especially if its a Motorola.

Well even with expedited service, I get my phone back next Tuesday... almost a whole month without a phone... Not real happy...
yeah, my phone is only 1 year and 3 monghs old and the usb port for charging is broken. So now I must charge my batteries with a desk top charger. These phones need to be plugged in to chargers on a daily basis. There is NO REASON WHY THEY SHOULD BUILD A PHONE THAT HAS A PIECE OF CRAP CHARGING CONNECTION. OR ANY OTHER DAILY USED MOVING PART. That is just treating your customers poorly. Thank you for listening.
im happy with samsung... they gave me an extra charger, headphones, and another usb cord when i sent in my phone to be rapired (under warranty)

Read this thread for the repair guys info I just used ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425729 ). He is awesome and cheap ( $25 ). I had to pay to ship it to him ( $5.80 usps small flat rate box which included tracking and some insurance) but he paid for the return. He even took photos of my repair for me. It only took a few days to include shipping.

Well guess what...My phone is on it's 3rd trek over to Samsung...After talking to 3 managers, and an hour long phone call...Still won't assure me a new phone... I'm pretty furious with this...I even asked them don't you think it's cheaper to replace the phone than 3 repairs, and they said they can't release that information... I honestly don't know if I'll buy another Samsung after all this... This is my Tuesday morning rant

At this point why not just buy a new phone...i mean really, ist an old phone. with all the time you wasted you could have gotten a used one off craigs list
That's what insurance is for. new phone comes on the mail before you send the old one in.
