How likely do you think an ATT Nexus is?

which carrier do you think is better......

At&t is the least "Android friendly" carrier so I would kind of be surprised. I know in the 3+ years I had them I hated every minute of it. I am soo happy with VZW and will never go back. I also know that this is only my experience and reception differs through out the country, but in Northern AL VZW is the only carrier worth having if you actually want a working device - I have full coverage and LTE almost everywhere I go. With At&t I had a bar and edge. Doesnt At&t have LTE in like 12 major cities only? What is the point?
EDIT: Yes VZW is more expensive but its worth it to me to actually be able to use my phone.

I didn't think att was so anti android. They had the atrix. A killer device and came out eons before (10 months?) the bionic, the all but brother to the atrix, and they have their own S2 and S2 lte. Even a nexus s. I'm not butting heads intentionally. But I also know in north jersey (15 miles from Verizon HQ) my hspa+ smokes Verizon 3g usually 3megs to .75. And call wise no body in my area has att problems. BUT I do hear about them from other locations. But I digress. I don't see why att is android unfriendly and why we should give up on lte from them just because its new. They have 1/6th the coverage Verizon has which is good for such a small time its been out. Also the lte switching on att kills lte when not in use and vice versa. Tremendous better savings vs big red. Just my thoughts

For the longest time, they locked down sideloading of apps. Thats pretty damn Android unfriendly.

I was under the impression that Verizon did too. Am I wrong?

Nah, Verizon never did that. They like to bloat things up, but they do not lockdown sideloading or anything like that. Nor do they use CIQ like Sprint does on some of their devices.

AND THEN.. You have AT&T disabling HSPA on their Android phones but leaving it enabled on the iDevices, all the time marketing their Androids as HSPA CAPABLE. They are unethical liars.

VZW never prevented sideloading.

well i appreciate the clarity, i guess as having a decent selection of androids to me made me feel that way,
ANYWAYS do we have any input on the topic? i feel like some people dont care, but we are talking about an awesome phone being offered to people at a lower cost, sim card use in america with a faster radio and possibly more storage, and a 1 year warranty in america, im not sure if att would even have the ability to hamper the nexus experience with this so does anyone care or do we just want to hate ATT?

I pay the premium to actually have reception, Tmo & Att have none in my area.. VZW has reception everywhere, and LTE everywhere too (in my area). VZW doesnt have "Android restrictions", and Ive never paid for tethering on any carrier nor will I - I get that for free.

Because T-mobile's service is garbage in a lot of places? Because they have unlimited data on Verizon? Because Verizon actually carries the Galaxy Nexus and there is no trouble getting warranty support?
There is actually a no service area for T-mobile within city limits here.

Any Major differences ?

At the end of the month i will be switching from sprint to Verizon.
I was wondering if there were any MAJOR developmental differences with rooting between the Sprint version of the nexus vs. the Verizon.
Though I will be switching to the Galaxy S3, I figure since this phone is on both sprint and Verizon it would be a good measure to see if verizon has locked their version of the phone down, i know in the past they have put more restriction on their devices compared to other carriers.

I just think there's more development for the Verizon version. Would be nice if you could switch carriers without having to switch phones

Only difference is a tad bit of bloatware on Verizon.
Like MyVerizon.apk and a couple others.
And yeah, literally every GSM rom is on Toro, as far as I know.
Only a handful are on ToroPlus (Sprint).
Linked in my sig (or stickied above) you can see that the root method is exactly the same (aside from a different CWM.img).

Ok great, just wanted to make sure Verizon wasn't locking down their phones. Sounds like a plan. I can't wait for the gs III to drop

. How can u get 5 constant bars on a photon or 2 or 3 on HTC evo or sprint I phone in the same area, but always 1 bar on Samsung phones All on the same network. I feel sorry for you that you have to use CDMA version of Samsung, but from all the GSM Galaxy phones in my sig, I never had signal problems except for the Vibrant GPS.

Same here, I have good signal all the time (even when my country have ****ty networks, I'm always on full signal).

My signal has been rock solid everywhere I have been for the last 7 months. :good:

It's Sprint. Sprint sucks. No problems here on VZW CDMA, even w/o having the JB radios.

My friend has the Sprint iPhone (the forbidden device) and it's super slow even when maxed.

I also have to disagree with this. My GSM Nexus on T-Mobile has been rock solid. GPS lock in about 3 to 5 seconds and never a drop call and data speed has been great. We all know the first T-959 Vibrants had GPS issues but I sent mine in and Samsung fixed it. I wonder if it has to do with location? Here in Chicago my friends who are still on Sprint always complain about dropped calls and loss of network. And they are all using a mix of phones from different mafs.

A lot of it also is how the phone handles the signal display. Some phones display a higher signal then others as like a placebo. 5 bars on a moto RAZR and 3 on my gnex and mine still wins in speed tests.

Yea, do the bars really mean anything? I have had 8 Mbps download speed on full bars and 9 Mbps on 0 or 1 bar of signal and still no issues with calls.

They don't. You could have 5 bars and 500k people on the same tower as you and you'll get better service with 1 bar and 50k people on the tower.

I disagree. A friend of mine on the same GSM network has a HTC Desire Z, and I *consistently* get better signal than him.

I have the VZW GNex and I have no issues.

i have a huge issue. the nex wont hold 4g in my house. period. drops to 3g all the time. i have a thunderbolt that got constant 4g (strong enough to tether with) in a known verizon dead zone. you explain that

I figured by now that people, especially those who start threads complaining about signal would know better then to base it off of bars!!!!!!!

Even if it's true that T-Mobile is slow in adopting LTE, I'm still happy with their service because they are the only carrier that provide WiFi Calling. This is very important for me since no carrier has any signal inside my apartment unit, and also while travelling overseas. If not for the WiFi Calling feature built into T-Mo's phones firmware, I would have already bought the international version with or without LTE. I've been very happy with my Galaxy S3 on T-Mo without LTE, but I want the bigger screen and S-Pen. Eagerly waiting for the US launch. Only a few more days! I'm sure I'll have a Note 3 as well! Lol, I just got my S3 and I'm already looking at Note 2.

Agreed! Wifi Calling is ingenious! That's also the reason why I won't get any other non-T-Mobile branded phone.

For wifi calling use Talkatone and your Gvoice account if you have limited minutes on t-mobile. It's unlimited incoming and outgoing over wifi or 3g. And you have the benefit of having a second number to give out.

Hey, does wifi calling works with sms/mms? I'm getting two different stories from tmobile sale rep. One says it only works for voice and other says it covers voice/sms/mms :/ which is it?

Has anyone tried slipping an At&t LTE micro sim (dirty i know), into the Tmo Note2?
I know we're all supposedly waiting for an update to the radio firmware but can't hurt to ask.
None of my friends have an LTE microsim phone.

I will be coming from a Note 3 which was perfect until the Kitkat update. I now have horrible signal and am sick of it. I live in a rural area and want to make sure the Note 4 does not have the same issues before I spend another $700 on a phone (I have unlimited data). Thanks!

every phone is different since most of them have different CPU and antenna. it's too soon to tell though as most folks haven't even received their pre orders yet.

I have this question as well. I'll be coming from an S3, and it has terrible signal strength. It's the one thing that I've always hated about the S3. I'll be interested to see everyone's results.

My N3 had terrible reception, I moved to LG G3 which was much better. I switched to new N4 yesterday and this phone outperforms both on signal strength. I don't drop data or voice anywhere I used to with the previous 2 phones.

It is still early but initial impressions seem to be positive. I am fond of Motorola for their excellent radios. Coming from a moto x, I don't see any difference in signal. And comparing from my previous note 3, it seems to have improved in my area.
Worse case is that if it doesn't work well in your area, you should be able to return the phone and get something else without incurring a restocking fee. I was hesitant since I wanted to wait for the droid turbo but since playing with the note 4, I'm keeping it. Good luck.

Im having a few signal issues i only get 1 bar some places but it doesnt seem to affect call quality

I had a note 3 that held a LTE signal at 2 bars very well at my house until the 4.4.4 update, after that update it would be one 3g most of the time.
I got my note 4 yesterday and had it all day and it never once dropped to 3g, It held the LTE signal very well.
The note 4 is definitely better than the note 3 as far as signal quality.

I can verify this because I just bought a note 4 coming from a note 3. I was unable to get service in my house where I lived as well as many other places I should have. I bought the note 4 yesterday and all my service issues have been fixed. So yes the signal is much better.

using note 4 today and best service i have had to date. phone has great dbm and first speedtest pulled 47 mbps download!!!

My Verizon N4 so far has slightly better signal than my LG G3, which had good service to begin with. No complaints so far with signal strength / net speed. So far my only complaint is the message + lag when taking a photo indoors. Reminds me of the annoying image stabilization option on the S5 that slowed the camera way down

This shouldn't be a concern on a different device, as Android isn't like Windows (in that a specific version is compatible on all PCs). The firmware (OS) on your device is tailor made for that device, and because of this, the concern you have about signal quality on the Note 4 vs the Note 3 isn't valid (not that it's not a valid concern, but that it doesn't apply). This is why you can't flash firmware from one model to a different model, and the only way for you to garnish an answer is by either speaking to someone in your area that has a Note 4 on VZW or buy a Note 4. I'm not sure if the Note 3 had the ability, but from the Note 4 settings it appears that you make Google Voice your default phone service... not just for dialing, but for receiving as well. I can't verify this, as I haven't tried it out yet, however it would help in your situation. As far as signal goes, I've had no issues with my Note 4 since buying it.
Something to consider... the Nexus 6 comes out next month and one of the unique features it has, over that of the bootloader being unlocked, is that is is the first smartphone with a hot swappable SIM... meaning you can buy it on Verizon and switch at random with other U.S. CDMA and GSM carriers by simply swapping SIMs. The only two differences between the Note 4 and the NX6 is the NX6 has a 13MP camera vs that of the 16MP on the Note 4 and it doesn't come with a S Pen (it also doesn't have the novelty features like a heartbeat monitor or UV exposure reader)... hardware is all the same, quad core 2.7Ghz processor, 3GB of RAM, rapid charge, etc. I'm assuming you have Verizon here, but you know you don't have to pay full retail upfront right? Because manufacturer's and carriers can't test for every variable, occasionally a firmware update will cause an issue with signal viability... have you informed Verizon of the issue, as well as made Samsung aware?
Something else to keep in mind... Android 5.0 [Lollipop] will be released to the Note 4 within a few months, and if you prefer a rooted device, then I would caution against buying anything other than the NX6, as it is highly improbable rooting will be possible on bootloader locked devices running Android 5... is it impossible, no; highly improbable, yes. Checkout ChainFire's Google+ post from 10/18 or 10/19 for an indepth explanation as to why.

This phone gets FANTASTIC reception! Better then iPhone 5 which dropped 4g all the time and better then even my Galaxy S5. MUCH better then the Note 3 which has about the same Signal issues as the iphone 6......

I have a iPhone 6plus and note 4 and my note isn't getting more then two bars when my iPhone is getting 4...could my phone be faulty?

Thanks guys for the feedback. I understand that signal problems with one phone are unrelated to signal issues with another phone. I was just giving my background that I don't want to go down the road I have with the N3.
Asking about signal issues with the National is a valid question.
