T-Mobile Galaxy Note II Passes Through The FCC, Is Future Proofed With LTE
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/09/t-mo...s-through-the-fcc-is-future-proofed-with-lte/
850/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 850/1700/1900 WCDMA/HSPA, Band 4 (5, 10, 15, 20 MHz), 17 LTE (5, 10 MHz).
Yup, that’s both 700 MHz for LTE roaming and 1700 MHz (T-Mobile’s AWS band) for LTE, which means only one thing — the Galaxy Note II is future proofed for T-Mobile’s LTE network, coming in 2013.
The rest of the report is under confidentiality so there isn’t a whole lot else we can discover from the FCC filings, but at this point the presence of LTE was the only unknown we had hoped to find. The rest of the Note II is pretty standard globally so we don’t expect any more surprises. To be honest, with the discovery of LTE on board, we can’t think of any better surprises.
While it’s true my excitement of LTE and future-proofing may be preliminary, the Galaxy Note II is likely to be a device many of you consider to be the best of both the tablet and smartphone world. The knowledge that the device will be ready and waiting for T-Mobile’s LTE network to go live in 2013 and won’t require a new piece of hardware is just a little bit of comfort in a world where hardware turns over far faster than our upgrade dates.
Cool...but. I'll be using my Note 3 by the time you see LTE on your Note 2
No need to wait for LTE, HSPA+ for now is just as fast if not faster in places. As far as getting LTE it adds/keeps value when time comes to resale the device.

Even if it's true that T-Mobile is slow in adopting LTE, I'm still happy with their service because they are the only carrier that provide WiFi Calling. This is very important for me since no carrier has any signal inside my apartment unit, and also while travelling overseas. If not for the WiFi Calling feature built into T-Mo's phones firmware, I would have already bought the international version with or without LTE. I've been very happy with my Galaxy S3 on T-Mo without LTE, but I want the bigger screen and S-Pen. Eagerly waiting for the US launch. Only a few more days! I'm sure I'll have a Note 3 as well! Lol, I just got my S3 and I'm already looking at Note 2.

For wifi calling use Talkatone and your Gvoice account if you have limited minutes on t-mobile. It's unlimited incoming and outgoing over wifi or 3g. And you have the benefit of having a second number to give out.

Well updates *do* come directly from Google and the verizon bloatware is a nonissue (just Hide it and you'll never have to worry about it again). If you're worried about battery life just turn off LTE and enjoy great battery life.
Pros? Verizon has *much* better coverage than T-Mobile and LTE is much faster.
but because of the "only 2" verizon apps, are the updates going to come directly from google or do we have to wait for verizon to release it with there "only 2" bloatware apps
The android updates come straight from el goog, the apps should update via the market and not from the rom.

Keep the GSM unlocked GNex and don't buy the Verizon CDMA version that won't allow you to use a sim card from anywhere else. I also have a Skyrocket and it has LTE on AT&T and I really don't notice the difference in speeds from HSDPA+ on the GNex and LTE on the Skyrocket.

If you turn off LTE, 1st you loose signal for a minute or so, 2nd you loose data + cell phone use together, and 3rd you are now stuck on slow CDMA that tops at 500kbps-1.5mbps near Boston area where Tmobile 3G is 2.5-5.5mbps and Tmobile 4G even faster
Now that a buddy whats to buy my Nexus One and HD2 for $500 bucks shipped, I am still thinking about switching to Verizon and get Nexus for $150 or pay $550 for GSM version.

What? This has never been the case. CDMA phones always have 1x to fall back onto. You just can't use EVDO (3G) while on the phone because the phone defaults to 1x while you are on a call.

I thought voice has priority over data on CDMA, no ? maybe thats why 2 of my friends told me that many of verizon calls go straight to voice mail ....
I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon and never looked back. Verizon's coverage blows away T-Mo's, and LTE is real 4G with real 4G speeds. And why worry about updates? This is a Nexus with all of the development that brings with it. I don't know why you'd ever be on a stock ROM.

I had to do the same and phone is rocking
The choice is really easy for me, as my country doesn't have 4G. So the 7105 would be a waste.
I got my N7100 on launch day and I love it.
If I had the choice to get the LTE version. I would have. Since LTE cell service wasn't available on launch day, it doesn't mean the service won't be there in the coming months or next year.
It would make sense to have a future proof phone, and also for resale value when LTE service becomes more mainstream in the UK.
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
The 3G speeds would be the same. The LTE version would only be faster it it were actually connected to and using 4G. If you were to put a N7100 & an N7105 side-by-side, both only using 3G,the speeds should be identical.
As for battery life, it will get you through a day and a half easily on moderate to heavy usage (couple of hours of browsing, phone calls, IM, music, etc)

T-mobile is pretty evil in my opinion. The galaxy s3 should get the liability to be able to connect to LTE on their network. It isn't fair that they removed LTE capability via a software update. Proof; appleandroidguide on YouTube, watch the first video and you will see
I buy my phones based on what they can do the day I buy them, not what may happen in the future. It would be nice to have the LTE option but I never really expected it despite the promises made by sales staff and customer service. I will go buy a full blown LTE phone if I feel the need.
Sorry but your wrong, the only phone T-Mobile has for sale that has the LTE capabilities is the Note II because its exactly the same as the AT&T version. If you open it up you will find out that the phone may have an LTE radio but no antenna, like the Nexus 4. And really you should but your phone on what you can do now, not down the road.

You gotta ask yourself... Do you really need it?
And if you do ( for reasons such as deeper penetration into buildings so you actually get 4g where you live or work or whatever..not just for faster 4g) then sell your s3 and buy an lte s3 or s4.
Your s3 was launched a year ago..that's a long time in technology. Get over it.

Okay how is it a scam? If you bought the phone when it came out(1yr ago) Tmobile wasn't even hinting at lte. You bought the phone with an understanding of what it was capable of. Most people aren't xda people. They don't go on forums and check out detailed specs sheets and breakdowns inquiring about possibilities of a phones hardware. Sometimes I think its a curse to have such knowledge as we know more than the Tmobile reps or any carrier reps do. The xda community is a minority. They aren't going to change anything for us. They know if people want stuff bad enough they will either leave, pay , or stay where they are at. Tmobile will not bend for you or anyone. You know how hard it was for me to get credit from them for something they did (680++$$) ??? Over a week on the phone.

Just Ranting but here !!
Come on guys Really ? Technogoloy changes so fast these days no and keep up unless you have deep pockets filled with money and still while your standing there while to pay for it a something newer faster nicer sweeter will come a few days after you buy it. This is the name of technology sales my friends. I get HSDPA+ . Sprint pushes out Samsung S3 to people telling them “ Oh it 4G and LTE soon” in the NYC area but out side of the 2-5 miles you may get 3G that’s is it sometimes and another times crap. These carriers for there not for you but for your $$$$. So that’s why I buy my T-mobile phone based on what they can do and for how long. The very fact that you can pull out the sim card and just drop it in a other T-mobile just is a plus. Is this not why we are here because after we Root our phone and we come here for what they don’t give us?
You may enjoy the speed now but think about internetwork operability and the plans to launch voice over LTE via VoIP-based technology and its a no brainer that its something you want.
Keep in mind, it may take entirely new radio technology to take advantage of VoLTE so buying an LTE phone may already be outdated by this year which, besides economic factors, is why I'm waiting to see what happens in 3Q and 4Q
http://www.extremetech.com/tag/volte
If I remember correctly, the T999 gs3 doesn't even have an LTE chip in the phone. That's what tmobile is releasing the T999L that INCLUDES the LTE radio. The OP is an idiot, and if idiots dont wanna take the time to research and learn about stuff, then they deserve every bad thing that happens.
It does have the lte chip but it isn't activated and won't be because they went a different way with lte bands.

I guess I don't understand what the fuss is. When this phone came out for Tmo LTE was not even confirmed. Knowing this, and the fact that absolutely nothing has changed in terms of what has been said about this phone from either Tmo or Samsung about this phone having lte capabilities, there is no scam. where I would disagree is in your statement about nothing has changed. I too was told multiple times before buying the phone towards the end of the year that it was lte ready and would get it once it came out.
The phone has an LTE amplifier for 700mhz and 1700mhz bands but no modem is mentioned. I would be curious to see a teardown of the V model... Its supposed to be identical to T-Mobile from what I understand...

The T-Mobile note II doesn't have its own dedicated LTE antenna like basic sy every other phone besides the iPhone 5? Why did Samsung choose to make the Note II like this and why cant I find anything on the internet about it? Seems this should be as easy to find out as the I phone's flaw with LTE. But again, why did Samsung choose to make it this way? Especially when ALL of their other LTE phones support SVLTE?
Oh, and what's your source? I'd like to read up on this not-so-publicised flaw.

My Verizon Galaxy Nexus, DROID RAZR M, HTC Rezound and, HTC Thunderbolt, all did SVLTE. The iPhone 5 is the only device where the internet made it well known that it is incapable of doing SVLTE because the vast majority of devices devices are capable of it. I mean, if most weren't, then no one would've made a big deal about the iPhone 5 not doing it. Cause that would be hypocritical.

Seeing how Verizon does not have voice over LTE, and as far as I know, no one does since the only way to implement it is extremely costly right now, i highly doubt you had voice over LTE. Your Verizon phones used voice over cdma, and data over LTE, allowing both at the same time. This is why LTE sucks your battery dry on Verizon. It is running two radios at once. Since LTE is an evolution of gsm there is no need for two radios and so you see better battery life at a loss of LTE data while in call.

I said SVLTE, not VOLTE. SVLTE is Simultaneous Voice + LTE while VoLTE is Voice-over LTE.
And on GSM phones that have LTE, they run 2 radios as well. One for LTE or HSPA and one for GSM. As you said, no one is using VoLTE yet. And our GSM/LTE phones need to maintain a connection to GSM even when connected to LTE so that we can still make calls and send/recieve texts.
Theres your proof bud. Just because it isnt what you want to hear doesnt mean its not the reality of the situation.

Okay to be honest I'm not 100% sure about the number of radios, fairly certain (~75%) only one radio is needed (the 7105 based note 2s have 2 radios, the dormant SoC radio and the GSM/HSPA/LTE radio). I do know you don't drop to GSM for calls, you drop to UMTS otherwise known as WCDMA and can hand off to GSM if needed.
There are plenty of areas with no GSM coverage but have UMTS/HSPA coverage. All these radios are evolutions of GSM and can have VoWHATEVER just no one has done VoLTE or VoHSPA, except T-Mobile has rolled out VoHSPA since the beginning of this year).
This is why your battery will take a hit on HSPA or LTE but not nearly as much as on a CDMA phone.
You are right in that most applications (barring tmobile now) use circuit switched GSM/UMTS for voice, not packet switched UMTS/HSPA/LTE.

Oh I can tell my battery takes a hit on LTE! Much more than when I was on Verizon! I just attributed it to the weak signal though.
But you're saying most LTE/GSM phones fall back to HSPA if they were on LTE? I didn't know that. Please excuse my ignorance
Hello all. Been a long while since I've been on the forums. I've got a VZW Note 10+ (SM-N975U) that I just paid off through my carrier. However I'm going to be switching me and my family to ATT solely for better coverage reasons and a buddy of mine needs a new phone bad. I've thought it upon myself to send my Note to him however I'm not 100% sure how good the lte functionality would be for him.
He says right now in his area the only bands they honestly support are 900/1800/2400 for the 4G LTE handle. I wasn't able to find much for the LTE handles this one specifically supports which is why I'm making this post. Would my phone be compatible if I had sent it to him.?
I can send whatever screenshots necessary, this is just something that's new to me
Thanks all

Where is he at?
I've had no problems using Verizon 4G LTE phones in both Okinawa and Japan.

He's over by Yelverton UK
It should work. He should be able to pop in a SIM from a local provider access get LTE.
