[Q] Stop OTA Notification - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hey everyone!
I am rooted and bootloader unlocked. Inexperienced at flashing roms and don't have the time to experiment right now. I am getting the over the air V9 update nag and it is really starting to piss me off! I found this site that claims to have found a way to stop the nag for the OTA by faking the phone into thinking it already has it. Its for an older version of Android but I was wondering if the concensus thinks it will work and if someone can post an image of what the updated build prop should say so I can try this method out.
I have less then 10 posts so I cant post a link or a pic of what Build Prop looks like
Thanks,
Mark

It seems like I was able to find an interesting OTA notification kill method:
I have a GC FE 2.0 setup I like to use sometimes, and the OTA was annoying the balls out of me. Note that the new update hasn't rolled out to me yet. But on GC FE 2.0, the methods you guys described above did not work. I could not not an update file in cache. Instead, I did the following steps as described below and I have no update notification anymore. All the other threads regarding the GC FE 2.0 OTA update notification just turned into a "install GB, FE sucks" fest. :/
Here is what should work:
Open Root Explorer, browse to /system, mount R/W, long press build.prop, and select Open in Text Editor.
Find the line:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/SCH-I510/SCH-I510:2.3.6/GINGERBREAD/EP4:user/release-keys
Change this line to whatever the new ROM's equivelent build.prop's line is. I suspect that just "EP4" needs to be changed to "FP1".
Save the changes to the build.prop file.
Restart twice or more. I had to restart 3 times to get data back.
Disclaimer: Since I actually haven't tested this method with the new update, I don't know if it will work. Somebody will need to find what the line in build.prop for the new FP1 update is. You should be able to pull the build.prop from the new ROM or find somebody that has taken the update to get you the value of that line. Also, if puppies die because you did this, it's not my fault.

[Q] system update

Hello xda people! I just joined the forums after reading about the new system update for a while. I just wanted to know if in order for me to get the new update to 3.2.1 i need to change my GEN since i have GEN2. Or if i could just do the update manually from you guys, or if i should wait for it? Ive seen now the us is getting it, but i havent had any update at all.
from what I can tell you with my device which came with gen2 software I downgraded to the gen1 stock firmware avail in the dev section an hit update an got my 2 updates to the latest version out right now.
I see, well i downloaded one of the GEN1. I would like to know what's the process of downgrading, I'm new to all of this and don't know what to do to be honest (Even though I always catch up really fast lol). I want to downgrade so I can get the update. Thank you.
You don't need to do anything of the sort, there's a flash able GEN2 3.2.1 .zip for us GEN2 guys, you just need to download it, decrypt it using the Acer decrypt tool, put the decrypted file in the root of the SD card, turn off the device and hold volume up and power until Mr. Android with Gears shows up and automatically updates it.
Thanks, littleemp, I think I found it, though it says GEN1, the person said it works for both GEN1 and GEN2.

Here's the encrypted update zip I used for my A100 GEN2.
www.megaupload.com/?d=EK2KP8KT
Awesome, thanks a lot!
I have a little problem with the download, I've downloaded that .zip you gave me twice already and it says the file is either unknown format or damaged. Any idea of what's happening?
Per post #4, you have to decrypt it with the decrypter tool in one of the other threads and then drop it onto the main sdcard folder. And then reboot as explained above.

Totally missed that, thanks a lot!
Worked perfectly, any idea if the GEN2 people will be able to get the newest? The 2.007.4 or something like that? Thanks again!
Here is a link to the gen2 decrypted file.

I don't even know what changes were on that update though, I thought the only really bad bug on these devices was the headphones thing.
In any case, assuming the timetable that Acer gave us for ICS holds up, then it shouldn't be very far off, so I'm just going to sit tight and wait for it.

Yup thats the first thing i tested as soon as i updated, it also seems to run a bit smoother now. Now to wait for ics.

I received the D851 10m OTA today. Some questions.

I apologize, I posted this in the wrong forum. Feel free to delete, I can't figure out how (I can only edit when I press the edit/delete button).

I have rooted, and I have xposed installed.
What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Don't update it. More than likely if you have twrp and root it will loop. I did mine this morning and it looped it. I had to factory reset with the lg tool. Just wait it out. The update isn't that serious.
Hey Danon, where did get the LG tool to factory reset? i feel victim to the same damn thing. Need to reset mine now.

First off, this question belongs in the Q&A not development
BUT. Regarding root, you never want to apply an OTA update, you never know if they could patch any rooting exploit and or lock the bootloader. Someone will most likely pull the update from the device and make us a flashable zip that will preserve root.
So for now do nothing at all
I have no intention of installing this update but how do I get rid of the persistent notification? It's annoying me.

Once you get the process down it takes about 7 minutes. I would advise you to do it with Windows 7 if you can.

I know on my S4 i337m when running the Google Play Edition ROM I modified this line in the build prop to the same line from the build prop in that update.
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/jgedlteue/jgedlte:4.4.4/KTU84P.S001/140602:user/release-keys
I'm assuming it would work on ours too if anyone has their phone updated and can post that (ro.build.fingerprint) line from their build prop.
Is there anyone that maybe posted an update we can flash on our Rooted/Non Stock Recovery phones?

Longpress on notification then turn off notification.
I encountered same problem and used the following to go back to bone stock (reroot required if you did).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667
Before entering download mode, make sure you unplug USB cable, remove the battery and put it back in, press and hold the volume button and plug in USB cable, and relax.
This method won't wipe your phone.

How come my cache folder is empty? I'm using es file explorer and i have my settings set to show hidden files. I even ran a search for the update.zip and the lg .apk someone listed and i can't find either off them.
Im using root explorer and went cache and just renamed the file to .bk

Do you have the notification for the update
I installed root explorer and found the file but it wouldn't let me rename or delete it. It said it was successful but didn't actually work.

How to Force the OTA?

I feel like a moron because mine hasn't updated automatically from 4.4.4. Any way to force the Lollipop update? I already checked and have the 24 wait period in effect. Thanks!
Happened to me as well. Go into settings, time and date, uncheck the automatic date/time function and move the date 1 day ahead. I would reboot the phone just in case, and check it again.

Weird - just did all that and it still says software is up to date. Any other suggestions?
Called AT&T to see if they could push Lollipop to my device. No dice. Tried the "move ahead one calendar day" trick, but it didn't work. Now it shows that I can't check again for 702 hours. Ha! Any other suggestions? Maybe it just hadn't rolled out to everyone yet. I'm in Chicago, if that matters.
If you don't have an issue wiping your data then you can use the stock Odin file in the general sub to flash it back to stock and update again.
I had my wife's phone updated with a push from AT&T. She had the same issue. They have to file a ti let and tech department did it but took a few days.

Thanks! Yeah, I might just do this.
Also if you factory restore your phone it will go back to the default 24hr wait.
I haven't really messed around with root stuff in a while, but I know even without root we used to be able to download the update, put it in the root or the SD card and rename it update.zip . Does this not work anymore? I really thought there would be a way to force the update somehow..

That would work if someone has captured the zip file or the download URL, which no one has done. Virtually every 5.0.1 related thread has someone asking for this, with the same response. No one has it, and if they did, it would be available in a stickied post.
Oh the woes of waiting for updates lol.
I remember with my OG moto droid waiting for 2.1 lol.
And how 2.2 blew my mind. Now look at it.
i had to flash oem kitkat to my att note 4, which right after the flash immediately got lollipop.
if you do got to the Samsung kiosk have them re-flash kitkat. then the download for lollipop will update after setup.
Force update to marshmallow?
Hi, absolute idiot when it comes to stuff like this.
So, i was searching through my apps list when i noticed AT&T software update.
I dont need any AT&T applications as i am in Australia and do not have AT&T.
i have tried to force an update by following the clearing data and force stopping the Google services frame work.
tried it multiple times, nothing.
Then i thought i could disable the app of the AT&T software update, and then i fell deeper into the rabbit hole of how OSPolice got in trouble and how there is 2 versions of package disabler pro.
So here i am, stuck with 5.1.1 and i have no idea what to do.
No, i am not going to root it. This is an AT&T phone, with a bootlocker on it. If anyone, *ANYONE*, can help me solve this small issue that would be much appreciated.

Possible memory leak fix for 5.0.2

I've been poking around this morning trying to figure out why my phone keeps coming to a screeching halt every once in a while. We all know about this memory leak in pre 5.1 lollipop. Looking at github I tracked down ColorFade.smali in our firmware. I also found what needs to be changed to "fix" the issue. I made the edits for the regular S6 firmware which I'm almost positive you guys would be able to use as well. But, you have to be deodexed, or delete the services.odex files. I'll wait for some feedback from other FS6 owners, and if it's positive I'll get you guys fixed up too.
Forgive me as I am ignorant on the process, but I need to be rooted to delete services.odex files?

I believe so.. You'll need a file explorer with root access to edit any system files.. Root explorer is my favorite
Very interesting. Wanna see how this develops

Feedback has been good, unfortunately this only fixes one of the problematic memory leaks in lollipop.
I could use it? Atleast one is fixed

Please hold my hand on rolling back my OS. phone hasn't worked right since I got the android 12 update

I have a oneplus 7t, on straight talk using verizon towers.
So since I got the android 12 update, I have spent several hours on the phone with customer service, and haven't been able to fix every issue.
We did fix the problem where I had no data, customer service walked me through updating the APN and that was fixed.
-I still can't receive MMS pictures through the standard app, I can work around that using the google messages app, but that's frustrating since I know something isn't working correctly.
-I randomly get call failed when I try to accept a phone call. This happens very often, but i'm not sure why it doesn't happen every time. I seem to be able to make outbound calls without any issues.
Not being able to fix the call issues, and MMS issues makes me want to roll back to android 11. the phone worked great until this android 12 update. I tried a factory reset, and still have the same issues.
I've tried searching for instructions but all of them are lacking thorough instructions. They say "pick the matching file for your phone", but mine is 1905, but only 1901 and 1903 are listed. I'm sure one of those are supposed to work, but which one?
"download this apk"...... ok, now i have a .apk.zip file that i don't know what to do with.
-delete .zip and i don't know how to make the .apk file install or open
-unzip, and i have 500 files that i don't know what to do with.
"move this to the root storage".... how?
I used to be more tech enabled, but it's been so long since i've rooted a phone or something else this involved. I really just want my phone to work properly again.
Well I can get the local update apk to open, but I can't figure out where to place or what to name the roll back file for that apk to find it. This is frustrating and wasting many hours of my life

I Need a little more specific help than that. Do I need to be hooked to a computer to do that? Does it mean to be changed at all? .zip.jar is correct? Because I've tried moving it from the downloads folder to device storage. It feels right to me, but it's not finding the file to update with.

Well you answered my question. "Do not take this upgrade"
