Despite my efforts, my DVP just won't sync. I can leave it alone for a half-hour, plugged into the wall, not running anything, but it just won't sync unless I plug it in.
I can't figure out why. I have all the exceptions enabled in my firewall, I tried disabling my firewall, and that didn't work. I even reinstalled Zune, and I've restarted my PC more times than I can remember. I don't get an error message, the wireless sync wizard takes about two seconds to run through, and nothing. No explanation, no error messages, nothing.
I'm starting to worry that this phone--a replacement--just doesn't "understand" when it's idle and supposed to sync. Has anyone else faced this problem?
I'm away from my PC right now so I can't tell you for sure, but I think there's a setting inside Zune where you have to tick off Wireless Sync. Have you already done that? (I'm only asking because you said you reinstalled Zune which probably reset your settings).

Aside from "Wireless Sync", which you use to set it up in the first place, I don't see any options in the Zune software that deal with it.
To set up wireless sync
If you don't want to physically connect your phone to your computer every time you need to sync, you can set up your phone to automatically sync with your computer over your home Wi-Fi network.
Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable that came with your phone.
In the Zune software, click Settings > Phone > Wireless Sync.
Follow the on-screen instructions in the Zune software.

i think the OGCF is referring to this.

In that case, I've done that a dozen times. No effect though.
It's as though my phone never idles, but I know it does, because the screen shuts off, and nothing is playing in the background.
EDIT: Maybe this is a battery issue--apparently, you need to be at at least half battery strength to initiate syncing (in addition to not touching the phone and running on the adapter). Since I haven't taken my phone out recently, the battery might need to drain, then charge back to half. Or something, I have no idea.
i know these are gonna sound like baby steps but here goes...
after doing that wireless sync setup above, enable wifi and make sure you can connect to the network fine.
connect the phone to power so that wifi stays on, and then close zune on the desktop. leave your phone for a while and see if zune on the desktop starts on it's own within 15 minutes. if it does, that means your computer and phone are communicating with each other fine.
if not, the problem could lie in either the phone, the computer, or the router. i know some routers offer wifi isolation, where devices over wifi don't see other devices. this may or may not be the issue. it could also be firewall related (not just your computer, but router as well).
these are a few things you can investigate which will help elimiate some issues. if you have another router (hopefully a different branded one), i would give that a go as well to see if this would get around the issue.

I appreciate any advice. I spent the better part of 6 hours today (thankfully, I wasn't doing anything else) trying to get this to work with Zune Tech Support before the guy gave up and told me he'd call again tomorrow.
So, closing the Zune software (not terminating it in the task manager or anything, but closing it) is instrumental to this? That could be it.
I'll try all these steps. I had no trouble getting my first DVP to sync (kind of funny, as I returned it due to crashing). I'll then go about checking the router--except I've searched around, and haven't seen any posts about ports on the router (I have an E1000, pretty typical router) anywhere, just people talking about firewall issues. I doubt it's the PC or the router, in any case, because I was able to do it previously.
EDIT: Well, leaving the Zune client closed did not change anything. I guess I'll try another router next, an old DIR-615. Of all the complaints about WP7 syncing on the internet, practically none of them mention routers, and only a few mention firewalls--and usually not Windows Firewalls. So that's mostly a dead end.
yea it most likely is, but i'd give it a try. wireless sync is awesome and i use it all the time, never connect the cable anymore, so i know how much you want it. if all else fails... try a hard reset on the phone and if that doesn't work either, return the device for another?
i know they are the worst case scenarios, but they are possibly the last two that will fix it.
you said this is a replacement device. Did the previous dvp sync over WIFI?
Sorry, but those devices seem to be really buggy.
Yeah...funny thing, as I mentioned, this phone has been surprisingly crash-free (almost a week, with one crash, and that might have just been me being impatient) compared to the first one I got. It would suck to have to replace it because the wireless sync option basically died (it did seem to be working for a time, now it's completely "given up") and get a crashier replacement (though that's somewhat unlikely).
I'll try a hard reset--no harm--and when that presumably doesn't work, I'll try another router (though that's pretty bad, since my current router was hardly cheap and it was a much needed upgrade from a 4-year-old earlier model). Then go back to pestering the Zune tech people again. And I guess I can get a replacement if neither of those work.
Additionally, I'm almost entirely certain that it doesn't require the Zune software be closed (mostly because I remember wireless syncing happening while the Zune client was still opened). In fact, it might be the other way around.

You don't know the half of it, though this wasn't actually a replacement--I got a full refund on my original one and ordered a replacement so I could start fresh on the refund. And as I mentioned, it did--though it crashed constantly, unlike this one, which doesn't crash at all.
no need to keep zune closed anymore. it was just a test to see if zune triggures or not, but as we can see it doesn't.
Well, I apparently exhausted all the options of the Zune Tech Support team--it took quite a few hours--so the only recourse is to get a replacement.
I just hope I'm not given a refurbished model--I'd rather try my luck with another return then, frankly, since this model was nice and crash-free.
sucks. guessing you also exhausted all the suggestions i gave, so yes, new phone is the best way to go. make sure on zune desktop you "forget" all the past phones before syncing (just to clear out any cobwebs).

No kidding, definitely scrub it clean and set it to forget. The Dell Tech Rep promised me a new one, so...if I don't get it, I have grounds to complain, heh.
lol definitely. let us know how it goes.
i'm not sure why you would want to replace the phone. is it really a big deal if wireless sync isn't working?
Seems like too much hassle for too little reward, but hey if you want it that badly then go for it.

...yeah, it is. I don't know about you, but I leave my phone charger in the wall near my clock and bed, where I've always kept my phone. My computer is not in the same area, and the cable is quite short.
WP7 all feature the ability that, if left on their chargers, will sync--in effect. The "hassle" is already over--namely, trying to fix the problem. Actually calling in for the replacement took all of 6 minutes, at the most, and I get to keep my phone until a suitable replacement comes.
I'd like it if it wasn't problem, but I'd prefer to have the feature over not having it.
Well, my replacement came in....and it's not syncing either.
Basically, it's the same as before. Wireless Sync simply won't trigger. It doesn't try and fail, it just doesn't sync at all. As though someone's keeping the phone from going idle, or the process never worked in the first place.
On the bright side, there was probably nothing wrong with the second phone I got. On the down side, only the first phone I had--which I returned--every wireless synced properly (and it did it without me even knowing it was an option to begin with).
No idea what's wrong. Calling Zune Support mostly served as a way to suck up all my monthly minutes, so I'm pretty much on my own, I suspect.

I had the same problem with my HD7, the first month wireless sync worked perfectly. But since January it is not syncing anymore. Setting it on the laptop of my dad wireless sync worked again. So it seems to be something on my own laptop.
It's a mystery.
I'm going to try another new router, and see if that makes a difference at all. If that works, I'll have to sell my E1000 for cheap, unfortunately, but if it actually fixes the problem, I can live with that.
In any case, I need to return one phone to Dell, and as it stands, I think I'd keep my no. 2 if the no. 3 makes no clear change.
it's been almost 4 days now
everything on the phone runs great until i restore that mysterious app from backup.
problem is having over 500+ apps/games makes it extremely difficult to pin point which particular app is causing the hot reboot
hot reboot = not full reboot, it just crashes everything and reload the OS
my current suspect some of the many plug ins for Go Launcher EX or IM+
Go Launcher EX runs great on the phone, but then once i restore all those plug ins, it appears to cause the problem
same with IM+
there are other apps i suspect as well like SD card speed increase, or Dual USB
or if not something to do with the Keyboard
at one point the keyboard selection got locked out, and i was unable to choose another keyboard or language
anyways... back to the haystack to find the needle...
Have you tried hooking it up to adb and running a logcat on that bad boy?
Edit: If you run logcat and reproduce the hot-reboot it may show you what is causing the problem. And if that doesn't work there is also a command you can call to get the last kernel message before the reboot. I don't remember what that's called though. Kmsg I think, idk.
-We do what we must because we can. For the good of all us, except the ones who are dead.-
lol perhaps i should, i was too lazy to do that, don't really have the time, but after spending 4 days trying to track down the app... i guess it's about time to go about it the smart way

If the simple method doesn't work the first couple of times don't try it repeatedly, it won't ever work effectively.

i've actually narrowed it down to ICE Music 4.0x or IM+
everything else working great since the last wipe & restore, excluding those 2 apps

That kinda makes sense as to why you thought it was music then but why im+?

both of them were caught doing something and then crashing everytime it happened
in the end it was because both were trying load up stuff from the SD card which was being hogged by the media scanner, and apparently that didn't share well among those apps and the system itself, and kaboom!
Just got this watch. I had the Moto 360 before, it worked fine.
This doesn't want to stay connected. I have to reset the watch, uninstall Android Wear and re-install it, then it'll connect once. After that, it disconnects and won't connect again. So notifications, syncing, weather, etc don't work.
Looking at my phone in Android Wear it just says Connecting.... on the watch, it says disconnected. Going into Bluetooth settings doesn't do a damn thing either.
Try Bluetooth Auto Connect from Playstore, it´s working for me on a Note3 with Omega Rom
Thanks for the reply. I managed to sort it out... I missed the step to click "trust device" during the initial set up. I didn't realize that was a necessary step for the watch to stay connected. You'd think it'd just do it automatically.
I don´t know, if it´s automatic, but i have the function with klicking on "trust device", no change, only the "Blutetoot Auto Connect" app is working.
This piece of crap is doing it again. Once its been disconnected, it won't connect again without complelety startinh over and resetting everything.
I'll check out that app.
You know, people can bash apple all they want, but at least their **** actually works properly.
Hasn't happened in a while, but if mine won't connect I just go to the android wear app and disconnect the Zenwatch then connect again. Works every time...
Tried that, many times.. never works. That app doesn't work either.
Well this is a serious problem I've had the watch for about six weeks now it took awhile to get initial set up to begin with I was at the point to return it on the first day , then I don't know how but it just paired and started working fine , I was very happy until today turned the watch on it wasn't paired and I've literally been trying for hours to get this chit to connect with no luck I've reset it ,tried the app mentioned above no luck at this point I give up I bough it at best buy but I'm past the return period I'm going to try and find some customer service rep ,at this point I give up trying to get the watch to work,if anyone knows of a customer service phone number I would greatly appreciate it , or if anyone here has any helpful information , ,I'm pretty tech wavy. But I surrender at this point what a shame I really liked the watch but the aggravation factor is to much ,sorry for the.long rant but there's no where else to vent or look for help maybe together as a group we can find some answers again any help would be greatly appreciated......

Go to settings / apps on your phone. Find google play services under running apps. See if device connection service is running. If not try rebooting your phone then the watch in that order and try to pair. You could also check if there is an update for play services and update if there is.

Same issue here, boxing up my ZenWatch and bringing it back to Best Buy today. Still within the 15 days. I really like the watch but these random disconnects are a killer. Most of the time it auto-reconnects but every now and then I have to reboot everything--which is kinda ridiculous if I'm out running.
At least I'll have a different watch with everything else the same for comparison sake and report back.
Have you tried uninstalling zenwatch manager? Mine started disconnecting after the last update, and uninstalling seems to have fixed my issue

I had the same problem I think the update from google services broke it.
unpair the watch from your phone then factory reset the watch and this is IMPORTANT pair your watch using "android wear" NOT the Bluetooth from the system phone
after I paired my watch using Android Wear now the watch stay connected and reconnect normally

After half a day working this seems to be the solution, thanks. :good:
Bad luck: two days later same problem persists (frequently disconnecting)
I am getting pretty tired of my Zenwatch not staying connected either. $200 is a lot of money for a watch that doesn't work right. It's had three or four updates since I bought it and it still sucks, should have sent it back the first week.
The Google nag to enable Google Now in the Android Wear screen is also a sore spot with me, if I wanted it enabled it would be enabled.
This whole "wearables" thing seems to be a poorly executed fad more than anything else, one that I'll be avoiding from here on out.
why would you have a watch that relies so heavily on google now and not enable it? connection has been just fine for me no several phones and software versions since I got it in January

Same here. I mean, it has disconnected maybe 3 times since I got it in November, but it hasn't been a big issue. Toggling BT on the phone reconnected it. I also agree with you about Google Now. It's central to how Wear works. Using a Wear device without Now would be like buying a car and trying to drive it without starting the engine.

You don't need Google now to benefit from owning this watch.
1. I like the ability to change watch faces and create my own with Watchmaker.
2. I can answer or dismiss a call from the watch.
3. Text and email notifications.
That's all I care about, anything else is an unnecessary distraction.
After a while, about four to six minutes, it disconnects and the music keeps playing through the HTC 10 loudspeakers. I'm streaming to my Onkyo TX-RZ900 which works just fine when associated with my IMac Airplay.
No answers so far... I'm surprised I'm the only one trying to use this. Since Nougat, Airplay does not connect anymore, anyways.
I haven't tried since the Nougat update, but it did the same to me in Marshmallow. As far as I remember, it was quite random how long it was working for. Sometimes a minute or so, sometimes 5-10 mins. It was one of the features that convinced me to buy the HTC 10 originally, but had to learn living without it the end. But I'm very forgiving, cause otherwise I love this phone
Thanks for your feedback. It would be nice if you could give it another try now that Nougat is there.
Tried with Nougat. It appeared to have been connected a little bit longer, but I still got disconnected after a couple of mins. By a couple I mean like 2
Problem solved for me.
I use Adguard to get rid of ads on my phone. I finally understood it blocked Airplay by default, applied the correct settings, Airplay now works like a charm. I'm a happy camper.

Hmm...Is it still ok ever since? I don't use Adguard or anything similar and I'm on full stock rom. I'm wondering what's causing this on my phone...
You're right. It holded up pretty good for a few days, but now it disconnects just like it always did. What a shame.
Crap! It would be nice to find a solution for this - I think of this a lot more since we've started talking about it here...
What I find intriguing is that I can't see many people complaining about it on the internet and this makes me wondering if
a, it's a bug that only affects a small percentage of devices, but otherwise working fine
b, people don't know that HTC added Airplay support to HTC Connect
c, people having this phone don't have any Apple devices, because it's made by the enemy
I couldn't agree more.
But I must confess I had never heard of Airplay before I got my Onkyo receiver... Even if I own an IMac...
Killer feature in my opinion
When it works.
Not giving up. I disabled WiFi battery optimization in advanced WiFi settings, the connection has been flawless for the last few days. A step in the right direction?

Haha I already have I'll give this a go too and will report back with my results
Here's the newest twist: I don't know what happened, we moved house, but are using the same routers (2 Time Capsules), same Apple TV, same HTC 10 with full official nougat and yet it doesn't connect anymore It says "Unable to connect to Apple TV"
Tried
* wiping app data
* wiping cache partition
* restarting routers
* restarting Apple TV
* restarting HTC 10
No luck. My wife's HTC 10 does the same. It goes silent for a split second like it was connected, then the connection breaks and keeps playing on the phone. If I manually select Apple TV (kinda forcing it to reconnect), it throws the above error. In the same time, my MacBook Air and my iPad can AirPlay to the same Apple TV, so it's something with the phones. Since it kept disconnecting anyway, it's not a big loss, but I guees my tests end here for now. I'll try after the next system update, that might bring it back to life
That's unfortunate... I wish I could help. No clue what's going on with your set up, as I use no Apple devices.
My 10 works like a charm with my Onkyo receiver since I disabled the WiFi optimization, I'm amazed it was that simple.
I'll give that a go if/when it starts working again. It was turned on both on my phone and my wife's, so yeah, maybe this was the culprit.
OK here it is...... I'll lay it all out there. My son and his mom used my sons phone ,that i had just bought him , to video her new husband, my sons new step father, after he had to many to drink. needless to say he got a little violent and physical with my sons mom. the cops were called and a report was made. but during all this the step father noticed that he was being recorded and grabbed the phone and slammed it on the ground. it still boots up, fingerprint sensor still unlocks the device via my sons print. i can get it into bootloader mode. tested with "fastboot devices" but no how no way have i been able to get into it via "adb"
my PC does not recognize it plugged in at all unless i boot into fastboot mode. like i said the screen is completely black, does not light up at all. only way i know the fingerprint sensor works is when i touch it it vibrates twice and when my son touches it...it only vibrates once, meaning its unlocked. so heres my dilima i need the video from the incident to have all the evidence i need to insure that my son doesnt have to go back into that situation. any help would be greatly appreciated
by the way im no new comer to android. ive built CM roms in the past but this puzzles me......

Thats the funniest thing ive seen in a while. brightened the mood significantly thank you
@Yash24 I tried both of those. This has got to be the strangest situation I've encountered on an Android. Not one single data recovery software will recognize that the phone is plugged up to the PC. Except in fastboot mode. My PC device manager sees it in fastboot. But when I reboot it I get nothing. I've installed Motorola's device manager to insure the correct drivers were installed and still nothing. The Moto z play doesn't support usb-c to hdmi. I bought a $45 HDMI, usb-c, and USB otg cable. To be able to plug it up to a monitor with a mouse plugged up to it as well. I can get the mouse to work but no monitor. What's even more mind boggling is that we've used ANDROID AUTO through his phone in my truck several times. So I thought...ok I'll plug it up to the truck and use Google voice to turn on WiFi so that his Google photos will back up... And now the truck doesn't recognize that his phone is plugged in. This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. I've tried using the mouse to maybe luckily click the wifi on but after an hour or so of attempts I gave up. I can't catch a break with this phone. I've unbricked my LG flex 15-20 times before. Without an unlocked bootloader and no custom recovery, back when we were trying to figure a work around for it. And I didn't have this much issue with it.
It's ridiculous that Android software now comes default " USB in charge mode" for this exact reason. If it defaulted to "media transfer" this wouldn't be an issue. What dumbasses writing the OS's these days. Geeezzzz
Look for a topic, control Android phone with a broken screen. Helped me once a lot when digitizer got broken on my old phone.

He stated that he was trying to turn on wifi for that reason, by default it only backs up over wifi. Is the bootloader still locked on it? If not you can use adb from TWRP but if not I'm not sure there's anything you can do other than trying to find a replacement screen.

New screens about a hundred bucks us dollars, might be your only chance.
Have you tried signing into your son's Google account on a PC??, maybe they are in Google Photos and would be accessible on a PC if they are.
