Is there a way to port honeycomb to the epic then turn down the resolution to where it looks like gingerbread.... I saw this done on some other phones.... if it could be done would it be worth it..... would there be any performance gain...
Sent from my Evo Killer using XDA Premium App
It wouldn't be worth it. Honeycomb was made for tablets, not phones. Beside, we don't even have the SDK, so there's not much to work with, so you wouldn't get any "performance gain". Just use the honeycomb theme if you want the look.
Nah I dont want the look I just wanted to know "if" all the above in the op..... I saw when you install honeycomb on a low res device the ui becomes gingerbread like and figured that might be good for having honeycomb on a phone... Honeycomb also has some APIs for game controllers and hdmi so idk I thought it might be cool to see what some of our devs might think about it....
Sent from my Evo Killer using XDA Premium App
Honeycomb has under 2000 apps and no support for anything but the Tegra 2 chipset. Not worth it , but it couldn't be done anyway since there isn't any source code for it.
How did the hd2 get it

An SDK port that runs extremely poorly and isn't worth the effort when we don't even have an AOSP rom yet.

So why hasn't google relased the source? Isn't it against the law not to release linux source?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Not at all. They are obligated to release Kernel Source under GPL but nothing forces them to release the OS's source code. Google has publicly stated many times that they are withholding Honeycomb source (for now) to avoid dozens of cheap android tablets (and I mean 600mhz processors and 800x480 10 inch resistive touch screens) from cheapening the "New" Android by running poorly.

When you drop the resoluton on HoneyComb, it just gives you GB UI anyways . My Xoom does it when you change the screen density.

I feel the same way. The stock ICS seems to be a lot faster than the MCR's at the moment - not sure why.
The only reason to root is to get things such as Ad Free, Full Backups, Underclock CPU when screen off, Apply Paul's UI tweaks.
Obviously things will grow in the future. If you do it now, then you dont risk the chance of losing the ability to in the future (doubtful that will ever happen with a Nexus)

Here's a much better question OP... Any reason to not root it?
The big ones for me are AdFree and Titanium Backup.
To improve battery life.

This is the first Android OS where it seem so much useable and stable, that I see no use to root. This coming from a primarily IOS guy. I hope I don't have to root.

Is it possible to connect a PS3 controller and play games with current devices today? If yes, could you point me to the application
I will only root if a kernel with ridiculous battery life surfaces. Otherwise this may be the first Android phone I really see no reason rooting. Strange thought.

AdFree is pretty silly IMO. Blocking connections using the host file? Really? I guess the creators don't know what a firewall is or how to use iptables.

Yes it works. But in my experience out devices are so powerful out doesn't make much of a different. And slows the functioning of the home screens down to much if you ask me. Now if you want to use it to play tegra games that is a different sorry.

Like all else here I am egarly awaiting my tablet, but I have a question. I used to use all the oid emulators but they seem to have left the play store. Gameboid snesoid etc.. What emulators will yall be using with your nexus. Additionaly I can't wait to try the tablet remote app to use my Thunderbolt as a controller.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using Tapatalk 2
I'm hoping that ScummVM will work well with this. The current Android port is pretty impressive. I like hope in the Play store, you can get separate 'modules' depending on what game you run through it, which will save a little space...
I will still be using Gameboid, Gensoid etc. Most of his apps are at http://slideme.org/user/yongzh
Thanks for the link. His work is even so great I think ill pay for n64oid again. Too bad I can't use my credit on it but oh well.
Thanks for this guys.
Is there a PlayStation one though aside from FPSE? That one looks good but I would like to see alternatives to fpse.
But to be on topic I will use n64oid and which ever PlayStation one I think is best. Gotta get my Ocarina of time and final fantasy on

looking forward to try these emulators out.
This is great, I've been looking for a good n64 emulator for a while now. Does anybody have a site that is good for n64 roms in bulk and not just one by one? I have tons of SNES roms that I use on SNESdroid and works great but haven't had the best luck with n64.

The icing on the cake would be to run 'Shape shifter' ( a Mac emulator) on the N7 under UAE4Droid. I ran System 7 (faster than a real Mac could) on my Amy 3000. What an amazing machine it was.

I am offering a $100 bounty if a developer can incorporate WebOs multitasking into a SGS3 rom. Please join in and maybe a developer will take the challenge.
For those not familiar with WebOs, it offers true multitasking and is amazing. To see what I'm talking about, watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ30i-SqcGY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
WebOs has been ported to the Galaxy Nexus and has recently gone open source. This feature would make the sgs3 the greatest device in the world.
Again, you don't have to offer $100, but join in. I've always found that if the money is right, things get done.
Sent from my Jelly Bombed SGS3
Edit: There is a mod in root wiki that gives us webos like multitasking! It only works on AOKP though. It shouldn't be hard to port to TW or AOSP. The page has developer source codes and a road map to porting it. Come on developers, jump on this. Otherwise, I'll have to start pm'ing developers.. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14167-mo...orizontal-app-switcher-011412build-17-update/

WebOs has gone completely open source. They have released all source codes. It has been ported to the Galaxy Nexus. It can't be too difficult to port here since it took no time for the GN port. It is all driven by Linux too.

I'll pledge $10. I'm thinking that this would have to go into a cm Rom. , since it would be an OS base rather than an app. Seems feasible but a lot of work. Could you provide a link to the GN thread, please.

I give $30 if its smooth and not lagging like those webos pc demos HP showed two days ago.
Anyone know if webos has a media player that will play all video formats like vlc or mxplayer?

Yes, I had a palm pre and a Touchpad. I don't want webos straight ported. I want to see if someone can port the webos multi tasking and integrate it into ics or jb. Android is superior in every way except for multi tasking

Someone obviously never used webos before...
In the YouTube video in the OP it just shows switching back and fourth between open apps. It was a long time ago that I was on WebOS, I know there's something different about its multitasking than android and iOS multi tasking, but didn't see the difference in that one short video.
Can someone explain how it works differently, I'm just curious for my general knowledge.

Maybe a good idea would be to use something like Kickstarter or similar to build the pool of cash. That way the money is there and available for the dev or team that get this ported in...
